"Chlo! You ready?" Beca yelled as she stood by the door. Aubrey and Stacie were in New York for the weekend and they had all agreed to meet for a coffee. "Chloe?" Beca yelled again when there was no answer. She moved towards the bedroom. When she opened the door, she saw Chloe looking at herself in the mirror. "What's wrong?" Beca stepped closer to Chloe.
"I'm pregnant…" Chloe whispered. Her eyes didn't move from the mirror.
"Yeah, I know. You told me two weeks ago when you moved in here." Beca chuckled a little.
"No, Becs… That's not what I meant." She lifted her shirt up and turned her side to Beca. "I'm starting to show…"
"Oh…" Beca moved over to stand next to Chloe. She put a hand on her shoulder. "Well, how far along are you?" She asked.
"I'm not really sure… Ten, maybe twelve weeks." Chloe looked over at Beca.
"Then it makes sense that you're starting to show a little." Beca smiled slightly. "Do you want to tell Aubrey and Stacie?" She asked.
"No…" Chloe shook her head. "I…" She looked away as tears began to form in her eyes.
"Hey… What's wrong Chlo?" Beca asked softly. She placed a hand on Chloe's cheek and turned her head to meet her eyes.
"I don't think that I can do this…" Chloe whispered, looking into Beca's eyes. She sat down on the bed. "Every time I think about having the baby, I remember that it's his." Chloe said. She looked down at her hands with a sigh. "I have to tell him, and that means that he'll have to be a part of this child's life and my life. When I left, I swore that I would never come near him again." Chloe sighed. "I don't think I can keep it."
"Chlo…" Beca sat down next to Chloe and pulled her into a hug. "We'll figure this out." She said softly. Beca placed her a kiss on the top of Chloe's head.
"Please don't tell anyone." Chloe whispered.
"I won't, I promise." Beca said softly. "But you need to figure out what you want to do about this. You're the only one who can decide."
"I know." Chloe nodded.
"Do you want me to call Stacie and cancel?" Beca asked.
"No." Chloe shook her head. "I could use the distraction." She stood up and put her jacket on. "I saw your interview this morning… Do you not want people to know that you're gay?" Chloe asked as they walked downstairs.
"No, I was told not to say anything, until at least my first album is out." Beca followed Chloe down. "Apparently being openly gay can really ruin your reputation. My manager wants me to have a breakthrough before I come out." Beca opened the door for Chloe.
"Wow. That must be hard… Being back in the closet." Chloe said as they both got in the car.
"Yeah, well I was pretty used to it. My dad never really understood when I came out, so I just never talked about it with him." Beca shrugged as she started the car. "My hope is that he gets it when I come out on national tv some time."
They both stayed silent the rest of the drive until Beca parked.
"They're here already." Chloe stated as she looked through the window of the cafe. They both got out of the car and walked into the cafe where they were greeted by Aubrey and Stacie. Beca and Chloe sat down on the opposite site of the table after they had ordered their coffee.
Chloe had always loved spending time with Stacie, Aubrey and Beca. Even more when Stacie and Aubrey got together. They had been dating for two years now and had moved in together.
"So, how are you finding New York?" Beca asked.
"It's so great!" Stacie lit up. "But I'm pretty sad that we missed your show last night!"
"Well, you're in luck, because I have another one in a week. My manager has this theory, that if I play a show a few times a month and put out a new song everytime, then my name will be known enough, so my album will be a hit." Beca smiles.
"Oh, that's great!" Aubrey smiled. "We actually don't have any plans for tomorrow, except we have to go see Stacie's parents. They moved here a few months ago."
"Plus, we have to tell them something pretty big…" Stacie smiled.
"What?" Chloe raised an eyebrow.
"I'm pregnant!" Stacie said.
"Wow… Congratulations, guys!" Beca smiled. "How far?"
"3 months." Aubrey said as she looked over at Stacie. "We didn't really tell anyone, but we've spend the last 6 months picking out a donor."
"That's amazing. I'm really happy for you guys." Chloe smiled. It wasn't even a lie. She was happy for Aubrey and Stacie, but at the same time, she knew that what they had, was what she wanted. Yes, she had always wanted to be a mother, but not alone. She wanted someone to share that joy with, and not just anyone. She wanted to share it all with Beca. Chloe was afraid to tell Beca how she felt, because raising Matt's baby with Beca wasn't enough. She wanted them to be together about it all. Picking a donor, seeing that first positive pregnancy test and going to the first ultrasound, but she didn't want to just do it as friends. Chloe knew what she had to do.
The rest of the day went quickly. Aubrey and Stacie had to leave for a dinner reservation. They said goodbye outside the cafe before Chloe and Beca got in the car again.
"I can't have this baby…" Chloe said as she looked out the window.
"Chloe…" Beca said softly. "You want to be a mother."
"Yes, but not like this. I want what Aubrey and Stacie have. I want you to be a part of it, but not as my friend or my ex." Chloe sighed. "I want to be able to look at your lips without feeling guilty. I want to be able to call my mom and tell her that it all worked out." She looked down at her hands.
"Chlo…" Beca sighed as she parked outside her house. She turned her body towards Chloe. "I fully support if you want to get an abortion, but you know that we don't work as a couple. I've always loved you, and I'm pretty sure that I always will, but we're a mess when we're together. I can't deal with all that again."
"Yeah, and you clearly don't even want to try." Chloe said as she got out of the car.
Beca got out of the car and followed Chloe. "Because I know how it's going to end! I'm gonna go on tours and have to leave you at home, and when I'm home, we're gonna fight because I'm never home."
"Then take me with you!" Chloe yelled. "Why do you have to go alone?"
"Touring is hard, I can't force that life on you, or on a baby. Making music was my choice, and I have to deal with the consequences of it." Beca sighed. "Can we please go inside before you wake up my neighbors?" She opened the door for Chloe.
"Fine." Chloe walked inside. "But don't for a second think that I wouldn't follow you to the end of the earth, if you would just let me." She said as she walked past Beca and into the guest room.
The next morning, Beca was already in the kitchen when Chloe got up.
"I called a doctor." Chloe said. "I got an appointment for an abortion at the hospital in an hour." She looked over at Beca. "I just thought that you should know."
"Oh…" Beca looked over at Chloe. "Do you want me to come with you?"
Chloe shrugged. "That's your choice." She put on her jacket.
"Fine. I want to be there for you." Beca said, grabbing her jacket and car keys. She locked the door behind them, before they got in the car. Chloe looked out the window without saying a word as they drove to the hospital. "Are you gonna freeze me out for the rest of the day?" Beca asked.
"Well, you've already made a choice that you and I would never work. So why do I need to pretend that it's all fine?" Chloe asked without looking at Beca.
"Chlo… You know how it would end… We've tried so many times, and it always ends up hurting one of us." Beca sighed as she parked the car
"Yeah, but it's been years. We're older now. I just don't see the harm in trying again." Chloe said as she got out of the car.
Beca followed her out and they walked inside the hospital. "Let's not talk about this right now…" She reached for Chloe's hand, but the redhead pulled it away. Beca sighed as she followed Chloe to the waiting area.
A few hours later, Chloe laid in a hospital bed, staring up at the ceiling, while Beca sat next to the bed on a chair. A knock on the door, forced Chloe to sit up, to face the doctor that was entering the room.
"Hello Chloe." The doctor smiled. "I just checked your latest tests, and everything looks fine. You're no longer pregnant, and you're good to go home now. A nurse will be by in a few minutes with your own clothes and the discharge papers." She said. "Now, I have to tell you that the abortion you just had, is a major procedure. It's very common if you feel weak the next few days, just like some amount of pain is normal. You have to be careful the next week, take it easy, no heavy lifting and no intercourse." The doctor looked at both Chloe and Beca. "Other than that, there's no restrictions. Call us, if you experience strong pains, or larger bleedings." The doctor said before she left.
Chloe looked down at her hands. "I'm not pregnant…" She said softly.
Beca nodded slightly and took Chloe's hand. "It's what you wanted, right?"
"Yeah…" Chloe nodded and looked over at Beca. "I just didn't expect to feel sad about it."
"It was a big decision." Beca said. She sat down on the edge of the bed. "Ever since I first met you, you've told me that you wanted to be a mother."
"But I never wanted to do it alone." Choe said. "Or with him." She took a deep breath. "I made the right decision, right?"
"Yeah." Beca nodded. "I think that you did." She leaned up and placed a soft kiss on Chloe's forehead.
Chloe reached up and placed a hand on Beca's cheek, stroking it with her thumb. "I'm sorry that I've been such an ass. You didn't deserve that." She said softly.
"It's alright." Beca said. "It's not that I don't still love you, because I do…" Beca sighed. "I just…"
"Shhh." Chloe interrupted her. "I don't wanna hear it." She leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on Beca's lips. As she pulled away, Beca just followed and kept leaning closer to Chloe.
"You're so dangerous to be around." Beca whispered before she kissed Chloe deeply.
