Chapter 13
Put her in time out
Warning are bad language and violence.
The feeling was odd to Bucky. He shielded his face looking down at the ground as he walked through the halls of the building he was casing, trying to find information to the location of the building.
He avoided making eye contact with anyone. He stopped for a second and looked down at his clothes, they'd changed he'd only just noticed. Wanda he thought to himself, she must of been able hear his thoughts begging for him not to be seen or recognised, nothing that would slow him down. He didn't know being in Luckys' head how far things could go, could he be recognised and captured by them? could they make him the winter solider again?.
He shuddered and tried to shake the thought of what could happen if he was caught and tried to focus on the task at hand. He reached a crossroad in the halls and turned in a full circle scratching the back of his neck as he thought about which direction to go down next. He knew his time was limited and he needed to act fast, that only added to his already sky high anxiety level.
On impulse he took a left and slowly jogged down the hall looking for and office that may have paperwork on the location of the building.
Meanwhile at HYDRA Tom decker stood quietly in a grey room surrounded with metal bars, his men surrounding him with automatic weapons to keep him protected. He smirked as he looked on at the scene unfolding before him. A child no more than 10 years old stood in the middle of the room dressed in all black, her blond hair braided neatly down her back. Her expression was vacant as she stared ahead waiting for the man to give her orders.
"Name?" Decker called out his voice echoed throughout the room.
The little girl fixed her eyes on him, still without emotion. "Soldier" she declared in tone so vacant it didn't sound like a child.
Decker smirked at the compliance of the girl "Very good soldier" He said softly. He gently pushed against the shoulder of one of his guards and slid past him. Slowly making his way to the little girl. She watched as he approached her with confidence, not an ounce of fear in the child. "I have a mission for you" He told her with a sickening smile on his face.
"Ready to comply" She stated.
He chuckled to himself and stooped down until he reached her level. She looked him dead in the eye as he smiled at her. "Very, very good" He praised in a sickening tone. He gently touched the shoulder of the young girl. "You see that man?" He asked in a hushed voice.
The little girl turned her head slightly toward a muscular middle aged man stood at the other side of the room. He was a grown man but he looked terrified, another solider had a gun held up to him so he didn't try to run. The man looked at the child with wide fear filled eyes. "I want you to kill him" Tom whispered with a smirk.
The girl nodded, without any hesitation she walked closer to the grown man, the man quickly ran at her clashing his fist against her jaw, the girl's neck turned on impact but quickly snapped back to look at him. The wide eyed man gasped at the monstrous child before him and stumbled backwards. She took another step forward and delivered a kick to his stomach bringing him to his knees. The girl took the now weeping mans head in her hands and forcefully turned it, a sickening crack echoed through the room. Still wearing an emotionless expression she let go of the man and he dropped to the ground, she didn't feel remorse, she didn't feel anything.
Tom watched with a smile on his face, he began to clap his hands together slowly. "Oh my god" He heard the doctor whisper in horror at what he's just witnessed. Tom smiled and the doctor looked at him. "She broke his neck" He screeched in disbelief, Tom just laughed at the doctors reaction.
Tom smiled and shook his head turning his vision back to the young girl who was once again stood waiting for instructions. "The best army the world has ever seen. Don't you see?" He asked in a suddenly enthusiastic voice. The doctor clenched his teeth together trying his best to remain composed, he knew the work they did wasn't good, he knew the plan to turn the children into weapons, but seeing it? Seeing it was something else, he knew he would never get the image of the little girl snapping the mans head out of his mind.
Tom was far to excited to care about the horror on the face of his staff, he was giddy with the idea of his perfect army. "No one will see the children as a threat, imagine where we can get with these kids. They can go undetected, people will sympathise and let their guard down" He spoke loudly to the room as he waltzed over to the young girl who was stood behind the dead body. He spun around dramatically to face his staff and placed a hand on the girls shoulder. "We're going to take down the avengers, we're going to take back our solider" He said with a sinister grin, his staff all nodded quickly eager to please their eccentric boss. Tom giggled to himself and looked down to the side at the little girl and gently tapped against her shoulder. "And then the world will be ours for the taking" He whispered.
The room began to grow louder with the murmurs of the staff talking amongst themselves about the plan, some with smiles on their faces and some trying to hide the fact they hated what this had become. "What about the girl solider?" one man called out.
Tom paused for a seconds his smile suddenly fading, he allowed his hand to slip from the little girls shoulder as he thought about her. He looked up to the man and pressed his lips together firmly. "She may have her uses, it remains to be seen. She isn't necessary to the operation but I suppose having the feisty little woman back wouldn't be the worst thing in the world" He said with a sly smirk on his face as he finished his sentence. He'd be lying to himself if he said he hadn't missed her company, and the fact she would do what ever he asked of her to please him. He smiled to himself as he thought of her pretty little mouth calling out his name as he took her roughly on his office desk.
"Should I call off the bounty sir?" The man asked snapping Toms' thought away from the female soldier.
He cleared his throat and adjudged his tie clearing the woman from his mind. "Yes, perhaps you should" He said in a more professional tone. He walked to the exit of the room and turned his head to the side as he passed one of his officers. "I want them both found. I want a location" He told him sternly, only just now realising how much he would like to see his female soldier.
The man nodded. "Sir we're working on it" He told him in an unsure voice.
Tom looked the man up and down looking almost disgusted. "Work faster" He muttered as he stormed out of the room.
It was like a never ending maze, he took turn after turn until he eventually had no idea where he was. Nothing seemed familiar to him anymore, like he had wondered to far.
"You" A voice called out startling Bucky. He looked up at the man who shouted him, looking like a deer caught in headlights. A doctor dressed in a long white coat marched over to Bucky with a serious look on his face. "What are you doing up here?" He asked in an accusing tone.
Bucky cleared his throat and stood a little taller hoping to intimidate the man. "Paroling" He said in a deep voice.
The doctor rolled his eyes. "Well I need your help with some heavy lifting, Mr Decker said his staff are at my disposal so.." His voice trailed off. Bucky nodded knowing this would actually work out in his favour, surely the doctor would have some information in his office about the whereabouts of the building they stood in.
"Lead the way" Bucky said trying to sound as friendly as possible.
The doctor marched away and Bucky tailed him. He lead him to a large medical office, boxes of equipment where stacked in a corner, Buckys' eyes darted around to room looking for any information that told him where they where, "I need those boxes over here, the – Be careful!" He yelled as Bucky grabbed one of the boxes. "This is the serum you idiot... put it over there" The doctor hissed pointing over toward his surgical table.
Bucky gritted his teeth, he knew this wasn't real but it didn't change the fact he wanted to cave the annoying doctors face in. "So how is all of … this going?" Bucky asked his voice trailing off.
The doctor who was now sat at a desk writing scoffed. "Don't you think that is a little above your pay grade? You worry about shooting people in the head and I will worry about the scientific side of things" He said in a condescending voice. Bucky placed one of the boxes down and turned to the doctor giving him a good look up and down.
He'd never come across this man that he could remember, it wasn't the same doctor he used to see. The doctor felt Buckys eyes burning into him, he looked up and let out an annoyed groan. "What on earth are you staring at?" He asked in a sassy tone.
Bucky brow furrowed. "I don't recognise you" He murmured quietly.
The doctor let out a little laugh not believing what he was hearing, he was practically famous in this building. "What ever do you mean?" He asked sounding clearly offended. "I have worked here for years ever since Decker took over" He snapped.
Bucky began to slowly walk over to the mans desk. "Have you ever hear of the winter soldier?" He asked in a low voice.
The doctor rolled his eyes. "Do not insult me" He spat, Bucky frowned and the doctor rolled his eyes at the clueless expression. "He is kind of the whole point we're doing this. Do you pay attention when Mr Decker speaks or is there actually nothing going on upstairs?" He asked in a tone clearly mocking him.
Bucky just stood there staring at the man. He knew this was the man that would be hurting Lucky, the man that took a girl and turned her into a super soldier, he wanted nothing more than to break his teeth. The doctor gulped slightly at Buckys' intense stare. "You know what, I think I can handle the rest of the boxes on my own, thanks" He said quickly waving him away. Bucky didn't move he continued to stare knowing the doctor was getting more and more flustered at his presence. "You can go now" He said in a more stern tone.
Bucky smiled "I think we need to have a chat... doctor" He said dragging the last word out.
The doctor stood from his desk and stared at Bucky nervously. "Wha-" His voice fell dead when Bucky rolled up his sleeve to show his metal arm. The doctor gasped and threw his hands to his mouth. "Soldat" He whispered.
Bucky was shocked that their wasn't a trace of fear in his voice at all. It was the opposite he was ecstatic. "You've come home. Wait until I tell Decker, oh .. you have no idea how good this is" He was now rushing around the desk to get a better look at the winter soldier. He wore a big grin on his face, it almost knocked Bucky sick how excited he was to see him. "With your blood we can make.. you know what don't worry Decker will explain, he is dying to meet you" the doctor rambled.
Bucky nodded casually. "I'm sure he is" He dead panned. "That's not why I am here" He said quickly, The doctor nodded willing to comply. "I need something from you Doctor" He told him offering his the best fake smile he could.
The doctor rushed back around to his desk ready to help with anything the famous winter soldier may need from him. "Anything" He told him with a smile.
Bucky smirked at the willingness of the man. "I need maps of this location, I need all the information you have on the serum so far and I need the plans for the children" He told him with a smile.
The doctor grew weary but tried his best to hide it "Why do you need that?" He asked trying his best to keep the fake smile on his face. "Does... does Decker know you're here" He accidentally began to trip over his words. He began to grow more fearful of the fact he was indeed alone with the famous assassin.
"Yes" He said.
The doctor slowly sank into his chair and wheeled himself more into his desk. "You're lying" He said trying his best to stay calm.
Buckys' fake smile fell as he'd been caught out. He slammed his hands down on the desk in front of him almost cracking it in half, the doctor flinched at the noise. "And you're on borrowed time if you don't get me the information I need" He threatened.
"Soldat" The doctor whispered.
Bucky twisted his mouth in disgust of how fondly they said the name, Soldat was nothing to love, he was a monster. "My name is Bucky" He spat.
The doctor nodded. "... Bucky, maybe we can talk about this" He said slowly as he reached his hand under his desk.
Bucky let out a little laugh knowing exactly what the doctors plan was. "Don't do it doc" Bucky said with a smirk on his face.
The doctor breath hitched a little "Do what?" He asked dumbly.
Bucky rolled his eyes. "Press your panic button underneath your desk" He told him, the confused doctor pulled his hands out from under the desk and rested them on top where Bucky could see them.
"The other Doctors weren't my biggest fans either" Bucky told him with a sadistic smile, he remembered on one occasion where he was beginning to remember, a doctor tried to inject him and he bit his ear clean off. Not Buckys' proudest moment but he remembered at the time it felt good to get some sort of revenge.
The doctor swallowed harshly and dug through some paper on his desk. "Here" He mumbled offering Bucky some sheets of paper filled with information. Bucky lent forward and snatched them from him, he began to speed read the paper for the information he needed. He smiled when he saw the address and a blue print. "As for the children I'm afraid I can't tell you" The doctor said in a fake sorry voice as he lent back in his chair.
Bucky rolled his eyes. "Doctor you know who I am please... I don't want to hurt you but I will" He told him cocking his head slightly. It amused Bucky that the doctor would try and play the tough guy act with him.
The man shrugged in his seat. "Sorry Soldat no can do" He told him clicking his teeth. Bucky frowned wondering why he was suddenly so confident. "Don't worry I'll bring you back and you will be better again, I promise" The doctor said with a wink, Bucky slowly turned around, a man stood behind him with a hand gun and shot twice at his stomach. Buckys' hand dropped the papers and instinctually went to the wound.
He grunted in pain as he fell to his knees, he closed his eyes on concentrated on his breathing. This isn't real he told himself over and over in his head, although he had no idea what the outcome would actually be if he died in Luckys' head.
Sam pounded on the door not caring that the hospital staff where now staring at him and Fury and whispering amongst themselves, he was dead sure one of them was even recording the outburst on their phones, something that would have to be dealt with later. "Wanda...Wanda come on open it" Sam called through the door as he nudged against it again in an attempt to bust it open. Wanda didn't reply "Shit" Sam muttered as he tried his best to push the door open. "Help" He grunted at Fury. Nick rolled up his sleeves and joined Sam in pushing the door, eventually they heard a loud crash of furniture and the door opened just enough for the duo to climb in.
Nick looked at Wanda who had ever eyes clamped tightly shut sat on the end of the bed. He noticed Bucky lead in bed next to Lucky holding her hand with his eyes shut also. "What the hell is this?" He shouted in anger as he climbed over the broken furniture to get closer to the bed. "Wake him up" He barked at Wanda. She was breathing heavy, she opened her eyes and they where shining read. Fury and Sam both took a step back on instinct. "Maximoff" He warned in a low voice.
She took a shaky breath "You'll kill them... let me do this" She whispered.
Sam took a small step forward and placed his hand on her knee. "Wanda" He pleaded in a whisper.
"I have to concentrate" She snapped at Sam. Suddenly she gasped loudly as if something had shocked her, her eyes returned to their normal colour.
Bucky rolled out of the bed hitting the tiled floor beneath him "Ah, oh.. Christ" Bucky gasped as he hit the floor, his hand was still on his stomach covering where the bullet holes would of been. He pulled himself up and looked at Wanda, he hadn't noticed Nick and Sam yet. "Wanda I need more time, ya gotta' send me back to get her" He pleaded still covering his stomach the pain of the gun shots lingered a little.
"Buck!" Sam yelled as he rushed to his friends side grabbing his hands pulling them away from him to asses the damage, to his surprise nothing was there, Sam frowned at where he was covering and looked up to his friend for answers.
"Fuck … I just got shot in the stomach. It's fine it's not real" Bucky muttered to himself, shaking off the pain he'd experienced seconds ago. "Son of a bitch is gonna die for that" He muttered to himself thinking about the Doctor.
Sams brows shot up "Shot? What are you talking about?" He shouted, he quickly looked down at Wanda who was now staring at the floor. "What is he talking about?" Sam asked in the same frantic tone, neither of them answered.
Bucky remembered the time of the situation and the fact he had to hurry. "Shit" He whispered to himself. He turned and crawled back onto the bed and hovered above Lucky who was still out cold. "Lucky, Lucky I have it" He told her shaking her shoulder slightly. Lucky didn't move a muscle. Bucky swallowed the lump in his throat and shook her again this time a little harder. "Wake up I have it" His tone was desperate, his heart was beating rapidly against his chest, he promised he would go back for her.
Nick stood staring at the fucked up scene in front of him. "Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on in here?" He yelled. Bucky didn't take him on board, he continued to shake Lucky trying to wake her.
"Bucky?" Fury snapped, still nothing. He sighed and looked down at the woman perched on the end of the bed. "Wanda?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
Wanda brushed a tear from her cheek and looked up at the director. "I sent Bucky into her head. She is trapped inside of her own head, well not trapped more like she is holding on" She began, it wasn't long until she was cut off by a finger pointing in her face.
"I told you-" Fury began infuriated that his orders had been ignored.
Wanda jumped up from the bed and glared at the man. "With all due respect can you shut the hell up" She snapped at him. He was stunned into silence, he didn't think he'd ever heard her yell before. "She is doing this for us and look at her! Look at her!" Wanda screamed pointing at the lifeless girl lead in the hospital bed. "She might die" Wanda yelled wanting nothing more than to hit the man that stood in front of her.
"Doing what Wanda?" Sam asked in a soft voice as he wrapped her arm around her pulling her into a hug. She grabbed onto him letting him take all of her weight as she began to sob into his shoulder. Sam gently rubbed her back and shook his head at Fury who was about to say something to upset her further.
"She held onto the nightmare she was stuck in so I could go into her head and get information. She wanted to help. I know where Hydras base is, I know where those god damn kids are" Buckys' defeated voice finally spoke up, he didn't turn to face the others he was knelt on the bed beside his best friend looking down at her beautiful face. Tears welled in his eyes but he quickly blinked them away. "So you can wake up now" He whispered reaching down to touch her cheek. She was colder than usual, his heart sank more, he knew she was dying.
Wanda shook her head that was still nestled into Sams shoulder, drenching his shirt in tears, not that he minded at all. "I can't hear her any more" her voice was muffled.
Fury cleared his throat and ran his hands down his jacket, he knew they where upset but he knew they also had a mission to complete. "Where is the base?" Fury asked in a much calmer tone than he'd been previously using.
Bucky slowly brushed his finger against her smooth skin on her cheek. "Outskirts of New York, posing as a steel mill. That's where the kids are, I think they are planning on injecting them with serum but I don't know for sure" He mumbled not taking his eyes off her for a second.
"Injecting kids why?" Fury asked his brows furrowed in confusion. Bucky stayed silent at he stared down to the girl he'd let down. "Barnes" Fury pressed.
Bucky suddenly snapped. "How the fuck am I supposed to know" He yelled making everyone in the room jump. He took a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair, he knew he wasn't okay, any second now he knew he was about to crack and break down. He clamped his eyes shut "Just give me a minute please" He begged his tone completely defeated. Sam nodded towards the door and Fury sighed as they left the room together.
Sam closed the door on the way out knowing Bucky needed time alone with her. Sam was still confused about what was happening but by the reaction of Wanda and Bucky he knew the outcome looked bleak.
Fury rubbed his hands over his face and sighed. "Wilson I need you with me on this, you too Wanda we're going in tonight" He mumbled in a less than enthusiastic voice.
Wanda rubbed her eyes and shook her head. "Sir you can't expect him to fight tonight" She said in a croaky voice.
"He is broken by this, he cares about her so much Nick" Sam said agreeing with Wanda.
Fury shrugged knowing they had no better choice. It had to be tonight, they had to act quick before HYDRA got the upper hand on them. "It will give him the anger he needs for the mission. We're taking HYDRA down tonight" He told them sternly.
Wanda shook her head ready to argue the case with him again if she had to, there was no was she was leaving Lucky alone with just doctors. "I have to stay with her, she is my friend and I can't just leave her like that" Wanda argued.
Fury pinched the end of his nose, he was just about done with the stress of the night and the real fight hadn't even started yet. "We need you Wanda" He told her honestly.
She shook he head in protest. "Can't leave her alone" She repeated.
Sam cocked his head slightly. "I have an idea" He said with a shadow of a smile playing on his lips.
Her hospital room was painfully quiet apart from the beep of machinery. Bucky moved from his knees and shuffled down the bed a little to lay beside her. He led on his side with his head on her pillow, he watched as her chest slowly moved up and down, her breathing getting weaker by the minute. She looked so tiny and fragile, seeing her like this made his heart ache.
He led in silence for a couple of minutes just watching her until a tear finally slipped from his eye and rolled down his cheek. He let out a shaky breath and finally plucked up the courage to touch her, he slowly let his hand wonder to her face, his fingers brushed against her jaw and he tilted her head to the side slightly so he could see her better.
His hand stayed there gently stroking her cheek. "You... you have no idea what you have done to me since you came into my life" He spoke finally his voice was shaky and threatening to crack as he spoke.
He forced a smile remembering the first time he saw he face, how awkward he was and how pretty she looked that day, another tear rolled down his cheek. "I hated you, then I didn't, then I kind of did again" He said with a small painful laugh. He felt the lump in his throat grow ticker, he bit down on his lip to stop himself from fully crying. "And then I was scared of you, I was scared because you made me feel things I had no idea I could feel" He whispered his voice now beginning to break.
He closed his eyes as more tears spilt from them. "The day I took you from that hotel and got you out... I didn't know at the time why I did it. I told myself it was because you where useful but that wasn't it at all" He admitted his voice now dangerously on the verge of breaking into a sob.
He took a deep shaky breath trying his best to keep it together. He didn't know if she could hear him or not, he hoped she could. "I was intrigued?" He said it almost like it was a question.
His hand gently brushed from her cheek into her dark hair, he wrapped bits of the soft hair in his fingers, he could smell her shampoo, honey maybe Shea butter? Either way the scent made his eyes water even more. It was so familiar to him now he didn't know if he could go without that smell in his life, without the girl that didn't fear him and if anything was a massive pain in his ass. He wanted nothing more for her to wake up so she could yell at him and maybe throw something, he knew he'd welcome it.
He let out a little sob at the memories that they had created together in such a small amount of time. He shimmied a little closer and rested his forehead on her cheek."You're something else I'll give you that" He told her, he'd hoped by now his voice would of been enough to guide her out. "You just gonna let me do all the talking?" He asked with another pain filled laugh. Bucky wasn't the best at talking now a days, back in his younger days maybe but not now. Something about talking to her made it that bit easier though, he didn't feel awkward more desperate than anything.
He closed his eyes and took in the feel of her cold skin against his, her soft hair dancing in-between his fingers, her smell and everything else about her. He didn't want her to leave, he would never forgive himself and truth be told he knew it would break his heart.
"Lucky" He sobbed quietly against her unresponsive body. His tears dropping onto the pillow they shared creating little stains between them, he didn't have the heart to let her go.
"I hate what I have become and I spend everyday wishing I could change. I have never felt accepted or accepted myself for who I became after the war" He admitted finally, he'd never talked about it or mentioned it even in his therapy about how he felt becoming a whole new person in a whole new time. "But when you told me in my memory you preferred me over my old self that's when I knew" He whispered against her cheek, he placed a slow gentle kiss against skin, his tears wetting her cheek slightly. "That's when I knew I fell for your doll" He whispered against her icy skin. He closed his eyes tightly and buried his face into her hair. His chest ached so much it was physically hurting him.
"Shit, Lucky please wake up. You did it, you held on and we have it now, we can end this together" He pleaded, his weak voice muffled in the mess of her hair "You're the most amazing woman and I.." His voice broke, he couldn't speak any more, the pain in his chest growing worse by the second.
He remained next to her in silence for about ten minutes, his head resting on hers as he gently ran his fingers over hers enjoying the touch he'd longed for, his only wish is that she'd wake up and grab his hand, tell him it's okay and that she isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately for him there was no response, no reciprocation of emotion she was dead to the world trapped inside of her own body. He wondered if she was waiting for him to come back and get her, he'd never forgive himself if that was the case, he should of made Wanda send him back, argued, begged and pleaded if he had to.
Bucky didn't even notice the sound of the now bust up door creaking open he was to busy in his own mind. Sams' eyes grew soft when he saw Bucky snuggled next to Lucky, his hand n her hair twirling it gently around his fingers.
The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Sam cleared his throat alerting Bucky of his presence. "Buck?" He asked in a soft voice as he hung onto the door. Bucky didn't move or make a noise, he knew why Sam was there. "I know this is hard... I know you don't wanna leave her man but we have a mission" Sam told him in the most sympathetic voice he could, he felt almost cruel pulling Bucky away from her like this. Orders are orders He thought to himself, unfortunately that was part and parcel of being a soldier.
Bucky pulled his hand from her hair slowly and placed it on top of her hand interwind his fingers with Luckys' and gave them a soft squeeze. "I know" He mumbled quietly, Sam nodded and stepped back out of the door leaving it open. Bucky gently kissed her cheek again. "I'll be back soon, promise. Just don't give up on me yet" He begged against her skin.
He let go of her hand quickly and rose from the bed knowing it was best not to linger or think about it to much, he ran his hands over his face rubbing away the wetness of his tears, he cleared his throat and nodded to himself knowing he had to keep it together, for the team, but also for himself.
He marched out of the room and was greeted by the trios sympathetic eyes, he had no time for that now. There was only one goal in his mind, kill who ever he had to kill and get back to Luckys' bedside, he knew if she was going to wake he had to be there when she did.
Wanda couldn't resist throwing her arms around Buckys' neck and squeezing him. She'd known for a while how he'd felt, she never spoke about it, she wasn't even sure if Bucky knew how he felt. But she did. "You okay?" she whispered.
Bucky slung one arm around her half heartedly returning the hug. "I'm going to kill him slowly for breaking her mind" He mumbled in her ear. Wanda gulped and nodded knowing exactly who he was talking about, Tom Decker the man that changed Luckys' life for the worst.
Peter was jogging along side Agent Hill as she power walked through the halls of the hospital. He was dressed in simple jeans and a hoodie, he'd been told to dress comfy, he figured when they asked for his help on a mission and to dress comfy they'd be taking a flight somewhere. Much to his shock when he arrived that wasn't the case at all. "So what do you need me to do just baby sit her?" Peter asked scratching the back of his neck.
Maria smirked a little, she loved the awkward teenager and his innocence, the fact he would do anything to be part of the team. "Stay with her and comfort her" Maria offered.
Peters' brow furrowed he had trouble talking to girls that he knew, now he was being instructed to speak and comfort a woman he had never met. Not only had he never met her she was a deadly solider assassin, not usually the type of woman Peter would have anything in common with. "I have never met her what should I talk about?" He asked awkwardly all ready worried about what he was going to say to the un conscious woman.
Maria bit back a smile as she power walked through the halls to Luckys' room. "Just... use that Peter Parker charm on her I'm sure she will wake up in no time" Maria said with a smile, Peter nodded to himself and took a deep breath.
"Okay, okay" He whispered to himself quietly, Agent Hill stopped outside of a room and gestured for him to enter.
Peter took several small steps into the room, the first thing he noticed was the broken furniture, he shouldn't of been as surprised as he was, the Avengers had a thing for breaking things. Passionate bunch. His eye wondered over to Lucky who was led in the bed covered from neck to toe with a white sheet. Peter gulped and turned back to Hill.
"If she wakes, you call us straight away. Do not let her out of your sight" Hill ordered softly, Peter just nodded and turned around to face his new mission. He puckered his lips and harshly blew through them, you got this Pete, your spiderman you can do anything he thought to himself.
He slowly walked to the bed with caution as if the girl was about to jump up and scare him. "Hi I'm Peter … Peter Parker" He began awkwardly, he paused and rolled his eyes at himself, for a second he was waiting for her reply.
He looked to his side and saw a chair on it's side, he bent down to retrieve it and stand it back up, he took a seat next to her bed, he cleared his throat. "Spiderman if you have ever heard of me I don't know if you have.. It's kind of a long story, there was a spider and it was a whole thing, then Mr Stark got involved but.." He trailed off not really wanting to dive into the memory of Tony, it was too soon for him.
He clicked his tongue in his mouth and snapped his fingers together finally figuring out what he could talk about. "Agent Hill told me you don't remember the blip, so get this, oh my god so crazy... have you ever seen a talking raccoon?" He asked over enthusiastic to the sleeping woman.
Nick, Bucky, Sam and Wanda where stood in the meeting room of the avengers HQ building. Wanda sat at the table with her head in her hands trying her best not to think about Lucky. Bucky paced around itching to get to the base so they could take care of business and he could get back to Luckys bedside. "So what's our plan of attack?" Nick asked looking over at Sam and Bucky's general direction, it was after all their mission.
Bucky didn't bother looking up his attitude had gone from heart broken to murder on sight in an instant, the only thing in his mind now was the blood he was about to spill, like a ravenous dog waiting for it's meal. "That is the plan, attack" He said harshly his tone dripping anger.
Nick looked over at the pacing murder machine with an exasperated look on his face, he usually loved Buckys' attitude toward a mission, but he knew he was invested in this on an emotional level and that could be a problem. "Soldier if you go in there guns blazing we might have a problem" He offered not really wanting to cause another argument with the semi-stable man.
Buck stopped pacing and looked up at the director, Nick had never had a problem with Buckys' shoot first and ask questions later policy, so why start now? Bucky wondered "Isn't that what you want?" He asked in a bitter tone, that's all people ever usually wanted from him after all. "Me angry, killing every man on sight and taking down HYDRA?" He asked in an almost venomous tone.
Nick held both hands up as a sign of surrender. "Just take a step back and lets talk about this as a team shall we?" He asked in a softer voice hoping to calm the assassin.
Sam looked over at the CCTV monitor with a frown on his face. "What the?" He muttered walking over to the screen to get a better look. A young girl stood outside of the Avengers HQ building. Sam raised a brow as it seemed she was alone, the others where looking over at him wondering what was wrong. He looked over at them with a confused look. "It's a kid" he stated pointing at the screen.
Bucky walked over to the monitor and let out a little gasp. "The little girl" He said to himself recognising her as one that was held in HYDRAS base from Luckys' memory. He turned on his heels and sprinted to the front door, he didn't know how she got out but he was thrilled she had.
"What little girl?" Sam shouted down the hall as he ran to catch up to Bucky with Nick and Wanda trailing behind them.
Bucky unlocked the doors on the digital pads beside them. The doors opened and the little girl turned to him with tear filled eyes. Buckys' heart sank when he saw she was completely alone, no other kids. "Leida?" He asked in a soft voice remembering her name. He knew she wouldn't recognise him as they had never really met, only in Luckys head.
The little girl began to sob. "I want my mommy" She cried in a small voice.
Bucky stepped out of the doorway of the compound and walked slowly toward her trying his best not to be to heavy footed and scare her, after all she'd been through he knew she would have a hard time trusting anyone. "Come here we will find her, where is your brother?" Bucky asked in a soft voice.
Sam and the others hovered in the doorway with confused expressions watching the odd interaction unfold. Bucky extended his human hand to the crying girl "Le-" He was cut off when she grabbed him by the hand and viciously threw him against the metal fencing that surrounded the building.
"Oh my"
"Jesus Christ"
"What the fuck!"
The trio spoke at the same time. Sams' mouth hung open at the site of the little girl marching over to Bucky ready to attack him again.
It took a couple of seconds for Bucky to realise what had happened, she was strong, she'd knocked the wind out of him. "Holy shit" He muttered to himself quickly jumping up off the floor. He turned and the little girl was already stood in front of him. She delivered several blows to his stomach knocking him back into the fence. Bucky grunted in pain and clenched his teeth together, there was no way he could hit a child not even … a super child?.
She continued to throw punches at him as he was pinned against the metal fence, he used his hands to shield himself from her attacks.
Sam turned to Fury and hit him on the shoulder, he was like an excited toddler that had just seen Santa for the first time in a shopping mall. "Oh my... damn she is kicking his ass" Sam yelled in a tone was to excited for what was happening.
Wanda stood with a smirk on her face and Fury just shook his head, he'd seen a lot of shit but this?... this was something else. Sam put his hands next to his mouth to project his voice like a father on the lines of his sons soccer game. "Buck she is kicking your ass" His voice projected through his hands.
A very flustered Bucky shot Sam a beyond pissed off look. Bucky nudged the girl back a little bit to free himself of being pinned, in retaliation she jumped forward and kicked him in his chest, he flew through the metal fence this time and landed on his back. He coughed and blinked a few times wondering how in the hell he could get the girl to stop without him actually having to hurt her.
Nick shook his head. "God damn she's gonna kill him" He said in a completely casual tone.
Sam smiled with a toothy grin. "Fight back Barnes" He yelled at his friend who was currently on the floor being hit repeatedly by the young girl. He had his arm across his face to protect him, his plan was to let her tire her self out then he would tackle her and hopefully not cause her much harm. The problem with his plan is, she wasn't getting tired.
"Shut up Sam" Bucky grunted as he blocked himself again from another block. He groaned when he heard Sam and Fury cackle neither of them taking this seriously.
Sam shook his head "You really gonna let a kid beat you like that?" He shouted in a fake disapproving voice, he was enjoying this way to much. It's not every day you get to see a kid beat up a super soldier. "Put her in time out Buck" He teased laughing at his own joke. He turned to Wanda and winked. "That's how you teach kids, time out" He told her with a smirk.
She raised her brow and crossed her arms. "What do you know about kids?" She asked with a smile, everyone now ignoring the fact Bucky was being beaten up.
Sam shrugged and pulled a face. "Not much... why interested in having some?" He asked with a wink, Fury laughed and Wanda shook her head.
"Shut up" she muttered to Sam who was still laughing.
Bucky had managed to push her back just long enough for him to get up off the ground. He held his hand out in front of him and she stopped for a second, she stared at him with a murderous glare he recognised all to well.
His heart sank for her, she was just a child and they had turned her into a weapon. "You're name" He began breathlessly. "Is Leida, you have, Carter" His breathing was ragged, he hadn't taken a beating in that in a long time, usually he defended himself if people came at him with such an attack. "You're brother" He finally got out.
The girl twisted her mouth around in anger. "I don't know anyone by that name" She spat. "My name is soldier" She said quickly before running at him again.
Buckys' eyes quickly widened as he came to the realisation his plan hadn't worked. She jumped in the air to kick him but this time he dodged it. "Any help guys?" He shouted quickly looking over at the trio stood in the doorway all with smirks on their faces.
Bucky groaned and turned to the child now clenching his fists and putting them out in front of him. "I don't wanna hit you kid, but I will if I have too" He warned finally giving in, the girl cocked her head at him and he did the same to her. There was a brief pause in the fight, before he knew it she swung her leg and kicked him in the balls, he eyes bulged as he dropped his knees in a split second.
"Oh" Sam shouted covering his mouth.
"Fuck" Bucky gasped as he rolled around the floor covering his manhood in case there was a second blow.
"That's gotta hurt" Fury laughed shaking his head "Little girl stand down and leave the grown man alone he's had enough" He shouted stepping forward from the doorway deciding this would be a good note to end the fight on.
The girl snapped her head up looking away from Bucky and now with her eyes locked on Fury, she ran forward screaming a battle cry, suddenly she was engulfed in a red mist and she lightly fell to the floor in a deep slumber.
Bucky who was still on the floor gasping raised on of his hands pointing at Wanda who was trying her best not to laugh. "You" He wheezed. "You couldn't of done that sooner?" he asked in a slightly high pitched voice.
She shrugged nonchalantly."I'm not going to lie to you Bucky, I needed the entertainment, it's been a hard night" She said casually.
Sam laughed obnoxiously loudly and grabbed his stomach at the sight of Bucky on the floor clutching his balls as if they where about to fall off. "He'll never know what a hard night is again, you okay down there bud?" He asked loudly once again laughing at his own joke.
Buckys' teeth where clenched together in both pain and annoyance "Fuck you" Bucky groaned rolling onto his front shielding his face from the embarrassment of the whole ordeal.
Fury looked at the child and then at Sam. "Okay so we know what they are doing with the children, this makes it more difficult" He trailed off, Sam nodded agreeing.
"Call strange?" He asked with a raised brow.
Fury shook his head. "Busy, we will need more agents on this, I'll put out some calls, we leave in an hour" Fury told him with a nod.
Wanda gestured over to the little girl who was now sleeping soundly on the floor. "What about her?" She asked in a soft voice.
"Make her comfortable, but not so comfortable that she can escape. When all this is over I will call Shuri" He told her she nodded and walked over to pick the little girl up off the ground, she was a lot heavier than Wanda had expected. She groaned as she carried her into the building to find somewhere to put her.
Fury and Sam both turned to Bucky who was still lead face down in the dirt. "Get off the floor Barnes you're embarrasing yourself" Fury called out before walking back into the building himself.
Bucky groaned dramatically and pulled himself up of the floor. Sam bit back a smirk when Bucky glared at him, his face now covered in dirt and dust. "I'll kill him slowly ..soon" Bucky whispered pointing towards the building.
Sam walked over and threw his arm around Bucky. "Yeah, yeah come one big guy, you did good I'm proud of you" He teased, he noticed Bucky walking with a slight limp, nothing to be concerned around but it was getting more difficult for Sam to keep a straight face. "You okay?" He asked, his tone slightly higher than usual due to the fact he was trying not to laugh.
Bucky let out a deep sigh his metal hand still lingering on his aching area "She was... so strong" He said still in disbelief of what had become of the girl.
Sam nodded with a smile. "I saw, we all saw" He said. Bucky pushed Sams arm off him and groaned knowing what was coming next, and quite frankly he wasn't in the mood. "You just got beat up by a little girl man" Sam burst out laughing not being able to contain himself a second longer. Bucky shot him his usual death glare but it didn't stop Sam. "Oh my god" He cackled as he slapped his hands on his legs, he was now doubled over remembering Buckys face when she picked him up and threw him.
Sam managed to stop laughing long enough to look up at Bucky who was stood still glaring "You just got your ass handed to you by a little girl. Dude, come on that was some funny shit" He laughed again.
"Are you done?" He asked through his clenched teeth.
Sam managed to compose himself and nodded. "Yeah, sorry" He muttered, Bucky nodded and they both headed to the door to go back inside. Sam snorted again and Bucky let out a dramatic groan. "No, dude she threw you ...Bucky okay the little girl threw you at a wall, Fuck me that was the funniest thing I have ever!" He cried in laugher, Bucky shook his head he knew he would never hear the end of this. "When Tinker bell wakes up I can't wait to tell her about this. She is going to be laughing for days" Sam said his laughed beginning to slow at the mention of Lucky.
He looked at Bucky whose expression had softened. "When?" He asked in a small voice.
Sam nodded. "Yeah man.. when" He told him with a small smile.
Buckys lip curved into a small smile. "Thanks Sam" He said in a low voice. Bucky was beginning to worry more and more that she would never wake, she would stay stuck in her own head until it collapsed around her. Even though Sam was no doctor and he had no place saying that his optimism did bring Bucky some comfort.
"You're welcome Bucky" His tone now more genuine. He threw his arm around his best friend and they walked inside together. "Now lets go watch the CCTV footage of a little girl putting you down" Sam laughed not being able to resist making one last joke.
This time Bucky smiled and rolled his eyes. "I hate you" He lied.
Hey guys big thanks to the ones who have reviewed you really make my day. I have a few people following this story not many but I love all that have followed and those who have messaged me to carry on, thank you for the support.
I'm working on a new project at the same time and that will hopefully be up in the new year, I'm trying to write the whole thing and do a big upload so no one has to wait around, does that sound good or do you think start uploading and write as I go? It is a Bucky OC fic, featuring Steve and other avengers around the time of civil war, it's an AU and goes in a much different direction from the actual movies. Let me know what you think.
