The shape of me
She had just been getting lunch ready for her son, she was about done when she heard the door open and shut quickly. Cleaning herself up she went over to greet her son from his day at school but stopped as soon as she saw him. As soon as her eyes laid on him, she could tell that he had a ruff day at school, "how was your day at school honey?" She hoped that he would open up to her more, but she didn't want to overstep.
"it was fine mom…"
Letting out a small sigh she came up to him and gave him a hug, a few seconds passed until she felt him hugging back. "lunch is ready, clean yourself up and come and eat." Nodding his head in agreement he went over to his room to get himself ready. Letting out another sigh she went over to prep the table for their lunch.
They sat together in silence as they ate together, she was going to try and see if she could get him to talk about what was bothering him today but it seemed he beat her to the punch. "Do you think I'm a monster?" freezing up instantly she could feel her heart clench, it pained her to see her son like this, getting up from her seat she knelt in front of him.
When his quirk first manifested it came to a surprise to everyone when it happened, one day he was playing ball with his friend then the next there was a loud yell. Mother instincts taking over she immediately went to action to see what had happened to her son, as soon as she got there, she was left speech less. His friend Katsuki was there and pointing at a small pile of clothes that belonged to Izuku but looking closer she saw that there was something moving from inside of them. Deciding to see what it was she went over to the small pile of clothes move a bit more before something began seeping out of it. After a few more seconds she saw a small child like humanoid figure form from the light green color slime, before she could think of the worst, she heard the slime speak.
"m-mom."
It was like he was talking through water, dropping down to her knees she saw him stumble his way to her before she caught him with her arms. She could hear him crying, rubbing her hand on his back she whispered to him that everything would be all right. Everything else after that became a blur for them, they were on their way to the ambulance then the next was the conversation that she with the doctor in the regards about her sons' quirk.
The doctor explained that it was common for children to inherits either one of the parent's quirks or even have a mix of the two, on some rarer cases they could become quirkless. However, the doctor also said that there was a small possibility that that a quirked individual would develop a whole new quirk themselves, which happened to be the case for her son. It was a big change for her, but it was even a bigger change for her son so it became her mission to make it so that he would not have to go through it alone. it had been five years since he manifested his quirk, there had been ups and downs, but her son always made it a point to pull through and she couldn't be any prouder.
Putting a hand on her sons' cheek to comfort him she could feel him vibrate a bit under her touch and pressed his head into her hand a bit more. "No I don't think you're a monster, I still see you as my little boy." He was silent for a few seconds until he spoke again "I know you do, but o-other people don't think so…" When he finished saying those words his mind brought him back to his time back at school, being called a monster, but he would always go back to certain someone who wanted to drive the point home. Seeing that he was losing himself in his thoughts she spoke again. "I see you as my little hero." Looking up at his mother he couldn't help but feel his worries slip away for a small bit.
"Thanks mom."
Giving him a tight hug, they finished their lunch up with Izuku providing her on current hero news for the day. After finishing up, Izuku helped her in cleaning up, when he was done, he was heading to his room but before he closed the door he looked back to his mother. "Thanks again mom, it really means a lot." Wiping her hands on a towel she offered a small smile to him. "I'm always here for you honey." Nodding his head in agreement he went into his room to finish up on his homework and to hopefully get his mind off from things for a bit.
Just finishing up on his homework Izuku sat at his desk for a little bit, while staring at the mirror that he had on his closet door. What stared back at him was a blank expression that he had grown accustomed to, but even he had to admit that his form looked a bit more droopy then it would be, letting out a small sigh he decided to boot up his computer for a bit. After it turned on, he went to browsing on anything hero related, to any upcoming heroes or to current ones. After browsing for a bit, he decided to go to an old faithful video that would always lift his spirits up during his harder days.
After a couple of clicks he finally found his favorite video that he had watched at least a hundred times already as a kid but never got tired of, it was one of All Might's first debut. After watching the video for a bit longer he finally reached his favorite part of the video that always fed into his inspiration for being a hero. He couldn't help and follow along with his hero as he spoke.
"FOR I AM HERE!"
He could feel his body vibrate in response, something that he learned from his quirk was that it seemed to respond to his emotions quite well. It made sense to him since he didn't have that much of a visible facial feature to express them, it really did leave him as an open book of emotions to anyone he met. After the video ended, he decided to browse for a bit more hero clips but eventually reached one with an interesting title. "Be like water" it wasn't just the odd title but how old the video was, at least two or three centuries old! Curiosity having the better of him he decided to click it, not knowing the impact that it would have on him.
The video started up and he was greeted by an old black and white video clip of a man sitting in front of the camera but not looking at it but at someone.
"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
The man offered a somewhat smug smile then it switched to a small montage of videos of him doing extraordinary feats from doing different punches to even playing ping pong with nun-chucks. As the video came to an end Izuku couldn't help but repeat what the man had said earlier from the video he had just watched.
"Be water."
Lifting up a hand to his face he decided to look at it a bit more, it wasn't like everyone else's since it resembled more of a mitt then the five digits he was used to seeing other people have. He thought of a hand and how all the fingers were different length and each joint they had to bend and soon found his hand molding itself to resemble a normal hand. Slowly but surely, he could see what resembled an actual hand then a mitt before, excited to test it he slowly grabbed a pencil that had been laying on his desk a tried grabbing it. He fumbled at first, but he was eventually able to get it in his grasp and began writing on his desk.
"Be like water"
It looked something closer to chicken scratch, but it was still legible, maybe with a bit more practice he could get better at it. A whole slew of ideas began flooding his mind, he could feel his body beginning to vibrate in response. Looking back up at the video he just watched he began looking for more videos related to the man that gave him inspiration while also practicing to better mold himself.
