Chapter 13
A/N: Okay so I always say this at the beginning, but I am sorry it takes me so long to update I seem to get stuck in a rut with somethings. So please as you read if you have any insight let me know! Otherwise I hope you enjoy this one!
"How have you been?" Inuyasha started to end the long silence, his dad looked over to him from the chair he was sitting in across from Inuyasha. "There is not much to say on that. Your mother and I have been good through the years. Trying to help out with all the little kids around, we are very happy that Rin is having a baby." Inuyasha slouched back on the couch, he knew this was going to end in a conversation on how much better Sesshomaru was doing than him. "I would assume so, having your first grandchild is a good thing. Sesshomaru would give you that. I wouldn't expect anything else." He said ending in a cold tone.
Inutashio gave a stern look, "Inuyasha do not be condescending of your brother." Inuyasha looked away, "This is dumb." He said as he stood up and walked to the door, "I knew this was going to be all 'Inuyasha why couldn't you be like Sesshomaru.' 'He was so successful and all you did was run away.' I am not too excited to be compared to Sesshomaru like I have been my whole life." He said with anger in his voice. His father stood up, "Inuyasha this is not what this is about. I wanted to talk to you because I am proud of you." He turned around to face his father. "What?" Inutashio gave a small laugh, "I am not happy that you left particularly, that killed your mother and me. It's just that I wish that we could have had a better relationship that we could have talked about it before you left. But you made an adult decision and you handled it well. I am not sure of what you went through, but I know it has taken a toll on you, I can see that."
Inuyasha made his way back over to the couch and slowly sat down. "But I ran away from something else." "Well there is that, but you came back. You and Kagome have an interesting bond; you two will figure it out." Inuyasha didn't know what to say, "There are things in life that you will always regret Inuyasha. But it is what you do to make the best of it that makes the resolution great." Inuyasha just sat there; then his mother broke the silence when she came in. "Alright I have some sandwiches and some chips here." "And I have the drinks." Said Rin behind her, Inutashio stood up to help them and set it on the desk. "Alright we will leave you two to catch up." Izayoi said grabbing Rin's hand and left.

Kagome had just finished getting all Kisa's stuff together so they could go back home, "Kagome why can't you stay longer?" Sango said helping her load things in the car, "I think if I leave Kikyo at home alone for much longer she will go crazy." She said with a laugh. Sango rolled her eyes, "Oh I am sure she is enjoying the quite, you know her she likes to sleep forever!" Kagome gave a laugh, "Kisa go say goodbye to your cousins." Kisa ran off to the house, a few minutes later she came running back and hugged Sango's legs. "Bye Aunty Sango!" Sango bent down and picked her up, she kissed her forehead. "Bye baby, I will see you soon okay?!" Kisa smiled a big grin and nodded enthusiastically, Sango put her back on the ground and she climbed into the back seat and into her car seat and started to buckle herself in. Kagome turned to hug Sango, "I will text you later once I charge my phone." Sango hugged back and laughed, "Bye Kags, drive safe." Kagome nodded and checked Kisa's seat before shutting the door and heading to the driver's side.

"Izayoi I really don't know what to do, the baby will be here soon and we still have so much to do in the nursey. The contractors we hired bottomed out. We still need the drywall up and all the flooring and I just don't know what to do!" "Now Rin don't go and make yourself all stressed, we will find someone who can help out." Rin sighed, "It is such last minute though, I don't know if we can." "I can do it." Rin and Izayoi both turned around and saw Inuyasha walk in with his dad behind him. "Inuyasha sweetie I think that is a bit ambitious." Inuyasha sat down next to Rin at the table. "I did contracting shortly after I came back, before I came home I mean. I can finish the room before the baby is here. I have nothing else to do." "It definitely would keep you busy." Inutashio added. Rin's face lit up, "Oh my gosh, Inuyasha that would be so perfect! I completely trust you and it would be nice to have you around so Sesshomaru wouldn't be worried! Would you really do it; you don't mind?" "No I would like to help my future niece or nephew." Rin gave a squeal and reach over to hug Inuyasha. Izayoi smiled, "Oh perfect!"

Kagome walked into the apartment to find it immaculately cleaned, she shook her head a smile. "Kikyo we are home!" She called out as she set her purse down on the kitchen counter, there was no response then she noticed a note on the bar.
Kagome,
I stepped out for a bit, I have decided to throw Rin a small baby shower so I went to grab some things!
I will be back soon, there is some left over food from dinner last night if you are hungry, I made stir fry!

"Well alright then, what am I going to do since Kikyo cleaned already?" She asked to herself, she looked over and Kisa who was in the living room playing with her dolls. "Kisa sweetie do you want to go to the park for a bit?" Kisa turned to look at her mom and smiled, "Yeah!" Kagome laughed, "Okay well let me charge my phone and we can have a quick lunch."
After eating a quick peanut butter and jelly for both her and Kisa; Kagome cleaned the mess up and then they were off to the park.
The park was only a few blocks from the house and so they walked there, once they got there Kagome went to sit on a nearby bench as Kisa ran to the playground. Kagome took out her phone and started to text Kikyo.
Kags: Hey when were you wanting to do the shower and where?
Kikyo: I was wanting to try and do it this next weekend she is going to pop soon and I just wanted to do like fam and friends. I already talked with Izayoi and she said we can do it at her place.
Kags: Oh that is great I know just what I will get her! Let me know if you need me to do anything! Are you going to be back soon?
Kikyo: Yeah, just checking out now, but I went downtown so it'll be a bit before I am home.
Kags: Alright no biggie, we are at the park
Kikyo: kk see you at home luv ya
Kags: ly2
Kagome locked her phone and sat back on the bench, then when she looked up she scanned the playground and didn't see Kisa. She immediately felt panic overtake her. "Kisa!" She yelled as she frantically looked around.
Kisa was running after a dog, she was playing with it, when she turned around to her name being called. "Kisa what are you doing out here alone?" Inuyasha asked and he crouched down to her level, "I'm not alone Inu, mommy is here." She said pointing over to the play area, which she could no longer see, her smile fell and her eyes began to water as she became scared. Inuyasha noticed her face and grabbed her hand, "No, none of that. Come on let's go get your mom." He stood up and turned around to walk back towards the park and ran right into an elderly lady.
"Oh my I am sorry young man." She said stepping back, Inuyasha shook his head, "No it was my fault I am sorry." The lady smiled and looked from Inuyasha down to Kisa, "Oh what a beautiful girl you have here, such the spitting image of you she is." Inuyasha's face grew red and wide-eyed, "Oh no sh-she's not mine." The lady looked back at him and gave a small laugh, "Oh dear, I am sorry. She looks so much like you, she has your eyes. Such a special color they are. Well I must be going, goodbye. Have a lovely day.
Inuyasha stared after the old lady and then looks down and Kisa, just staring at her. Kisa looked back up at him and gave a questioning look, "What's wrong Inu?" He shook his head and continued walking.
Kagome was so frantic, she had called Sesshomaru and was now crying. "No I looked away for two minutes and then she was gone Sesshomaru! She has never done that!" Then she listened to him try and calm her, "No she isn't in the bathrooms, I checked and none of the parents saw her walk away! What if someone took her! Oh my god Sesshomaru what am I going to do!"
"Mommy!" Kagome spun around and saw Kisa running towards her, "Kisa!" She yelled and went running to her, "Sesshomaru I have her." With that she hung up the phone and grabbed Kisa and began to cry again. "Kisa don't EVER walk away from me like that!" She said urgently as she sobbed. "I found her over in the field playing with a dog." Inuyasha said coming up to Kagome, she gave a long sigh and put Kisa on the ground and hugged Inuyasha, who after a moment hugged her back. "Thank you." As they released from their hug and still held each other at arm's length, Inuyasha stared at Kagome's face and then looked to Kisa. Kagome looked at him and then at Kisa, and him again. "Inuyasha are you okay?" "Hmmm" He looks at her slightly zoned out, "Oh yeah, just thinking of something. Were you guys leaving soon?" Kagome nodded and grabbed Kisa's hand, "I'll walk with you." He said, Kagome nodded a smiled.

They had just walked up to Kagome's apartment as the sun was setting, "Well I guess I will see you later." Inuyasha said as Kagome walked towards the walk up to the door holding a sleeping Kisa. "Do you wanna come in for dinner?" She asked turning around with a smile, Inuyasha looked at her a bit surprised, "Sure." Kagome smiled, "Alright come on. Kikyo hopefully will be home too and we can just hang out." He followed her to the door, but reached around her and opened the door for her, "Thanks."
Kikyo was in the kitchen making tea, she turned around and saw them and smiled, "Oh should I set another place for dinner?" Kagome nodded, "I am going to go put Kisa in her room, and I will be right back." With that she walked out of the room. Kikyo went back to stirring her tea and called over her shoulder, "Take a seat, I will make you a cup, you look like you need to relax." A few minutes later she joined him at the table with two cups, which one she handed to Inuyasha. They sat there in silence for a minute, "So how are you doing with everything?" Inuyasha asked looking over at Kikyo, she looked back down the hallway, looking for Kagome then turned back to Inuyasha and sighed. "I'm trying to adjust. I try to keep myself busy, I even got stuff to throw a baby shower for Rin, but no matter what I do I still sink back into feeling alone." "I understand. But Kikyo there are plenty of people that are her, you are not alone." Kikyo looked up at him and gave a small smile.
"Alright so how about pizza?" Kagome said walking back into the kitchen, "I'm down." Inuyasha said, "Beats having to clean up pots." Kikyo added. As they waited on the pizza they made their way into the living room and watched some movies, it was getting late and Kisa came walking into the living room rubbing her eyes. "Aunty Kikyo, can I have something to eat?" Kagome looked over to her and started to stand up, "Baby I can get it." Kikyo stopped her, "No sit, I will get it." She stood up and walked over to the little girl and held out her hand, "Come on let's get some food." With that they walked out of the living room and into the kitchen.
Kagome looked over and noticed that Inuyasha was staring down as his hand that was on his bouncing leg, her face grew sad, "He never used to be so figity" she thought to herself. She placed her hand on top of his and his leg stopped bouncing and he looked over at her, "Hey, are you okay?" She asked with concern in her voice. He gave a fake smile, "Yeah I am." She raised an eyebrow and fully turned towards him and poked him in the chest in a joking way, "Inuyasha it may have been a long time, but I know you better than anyone else to know you're lying." She said with a smirk, "Talk to me." He rolled his eyes his mood a bit lighter now, "I just always have things on my mind. Sometime they are just heavy." She nodded and realized he wasn't going to go much deeper in explanation. "I'm glad you were able to come over and hang out." She said, he gave her a real smile, "Me too."
"Inuyasha you are still here!" Kisa said as she came running into the living room and launched into his lap. "Hey squirt, I wouldn't leave without saying goodnight, which isn't it past your bedtime?" She gave a wide eyed look, "Just a little bit but maybe mommy will let me stay up." She looked over at Kagome with pleading eyes, "PWEEASE MOMMY!" Inuyasha laughed and looked at Kagome. She smiled and shook her head, "Just for a little while, but then it is back to bed you are going to be really tired tomorrow." Kisa squealed and snuggled into Inuyasha's lap as he turned on cartoons for her. Kagome smiled and got up from the couch and walked over to Kikyo in the hallway, she turned to watch Inuyasha with Kisa as Kikyo was doing. Then she said barely above a whisper, "You know you will need to tell him soon Kags, he isn't dumb." Kagome nodded and sighed, and turned to walk into the kitchen she started cleaning up the boxes from the pizza. "I know I will need to soon, but he is just so different with what he is going through and I don't know where "we" stand and I don't need that stress on him or Kisa." She rambled now putting the plates in the sink. "Kagome don't let this be something else that gets in the way of you two, you two will have to come to terms with it no matter what happens between you two." Kagome nodded, "I know. I will tell him soon. It's weird though, you know, it's like being a teenager all over again and being nervous around someone." Kikyo gave a small laugh as she sat at the table, "Oh right because you two had a nervousness around each other." Kagome gave an offended look, "Hey I was petrified the first time we went on a "date" to the movies." Kikyo laughed, "Kags you were 12. Things have changed." Kagome nodded. They talked a bit more until Kagome realized the time, it was already 11 and she needed to get Kisa back into bed.
She walked out into the living room and smiled as she was fast asleep in Inuyasha's arms, he was running his fingers through her hair, she smile and walked over to him. "I need to take her upstairs." She said reaching down for her, he shook his head. "I will take her up with you." Kagome nodded and headed towards the stairs and then to her room. As they got into her room, Kagome went and turned on the nightlight at the foot of Kisa's bed which made the room look like the stars in the sky. Inuyasha put her into the bed and the covers over her and put her stuff dog Kara next to her. He then leaned down and kissed her forehead. Kagome smiled as she watch him do that and then went over to do the same and with that they both left the room. As they did Kikyo came up the stairs and went into her room, "Goodnight you guys. Nice seeing you Inuyasha." He nodded, "Yea."
As they got down stairs, he went into the living room and turned off the TV and picked up the glasses off the side tables and followed Kagome into the kitchen. "Thanks for letting me come over. It was nice to be around people." Kagome turned to him and smiled, "It was nice that you were here too." They were silent for a few moments and then he spoke, "Well I should get going. It is late." "Mhmm." She hummed.
As she walked him over to the door he turned around to say something to her and did it so quickly it threw her off guard, she was a bit too close behind him that she lightly bumped into him. "Oh sorry." She said with a blush, his arm went around her low back instinctively and he looked down at her. "Uhm well goodnight Inuyasha." He backed away. "Good night Kagome." With that he turned and walked out the door. She let out a breath she seemed to have been holding and fell back against the door. "Goodnight."
Well there it is, I know I am so horrible with updating anymore. I do appreciate all that have stuck around with me and I hope you are all enjoying this story as much as I am writing it.
