Chapter 14

Inuyasha woke up and rolled over to look at his phone to see the time, and saw that is was almost 11. He took a long breath; "I haven't slept in this late in a while," He said aloud to himself as he rolled over to look at the empty space beside him. He stared at it for a while, remembering when Kagome was lying next to him the other night, he shook the thought from his head as his heard his phone start to ring. He looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Rin calling.

"Hello." He said in a tired voice.

"Oh Inuyasha, did I wake you? I am sorry I thought you would be awake!" She said in an apologetic voice, he gave a small laugh. "No it is fine, I just woke up actually, what is up?" He asked.

"Well I was wondering if you were wanting to come over today and work on the nursery if you are not busy. Sesshomaru had to go into the station early today, we were supposed to go pick out some flooring. I was wondering if you wanted to do that with me as well?" She asked all in one breath.

Inuyasha gave a small laugh and shook his head, as she tried to catch her breath, as he replied. "Yeah not a problem. I will jump in the shower and then head over there in about 15 mins." "Oh if you want, I can come get you. Your house is on the way to the flooring store!" She said with excitement.

"That would be good too. I'll see you in a bit." He said, he heard her give a small giggle, "Sounds good, I'll be there in about 20 minutes!" With that they both said bye and hung up. Inuyasha hopped out of bed and headed into his bathroom to take a quick shower.

After about 2 hours looking at floor, Inuyasha could now tell you the difference of bamboo and hardwood. Rin spent 30 mins alone picking the right shade of brown, Inuyasha was convinced shopping with a pregnant woman is the dumbest thing he ever agreed to. But they finally got the right color of bamboo flooring for this baby, he was happy to hear the room color was already picked. They were almost back to Rin and Sesshomaru's house and she was ready to nap.

"Rin you go lay down and I will get to work on the room," She gave a smile and nodded and headed to her room.

Inuyasha unloaded all the flooring into the garage and went to assess the room and where it was at progress wise. This baby was going to be here in a few weeks and this room needed to be done. They had begun the process of the drywall which was good; he was going to start on the floor today. Then it was just a matter, of getting all the molding put up and the lighting, then he could paint. It really wasn't much to do and he was happy about that, but he always was going to take his time so he could keep himself busy.

Kagome was just finishing up laundry when there was a knock on her door, she stared towards the direction of the door and gave a puzzled look, "Who could that be?" She said aloud and she finished folding the shirt she was holding and placed it in the pink basket.

She opened the front door to see Inutashio standing there, she gave a big smile and hugged him, then let him in. "Inutashio what are you doing here?" She asked, he gave a smile and went towards her couch and took a seat.

"I was just passing by on my way home and thought I would come say hello." Kagome's smile grew, "Do you want something to drink, or something to eat?" She said as she started toward the kitchen, he held up his hand to her, "No there will be no need for that, I just wanted to talk with you about something."

She sat down next to him, "Oh, what is it? Is everything okay?" She said now looking a bit concerned. He took her hand in his and smiled, "Yes, everything is fine. I was just wanting to talk about Inuyasha. Specifically you and Inuyasha." Kagome's face grew crimson immediately, "Wh-what about him?"

"My son is clearly holding onto feelings about when he left you, feelings of guilt and sadness. I know that things did not end how they should have between you two, and I know there are some unsaid things."

As he continued, Kagome looked down at her hands like a child who was in trouble. He then paused and put his hand beneath her chin and lifted her face to look at him. "Kagome my dear, do not look upset I am not here to reprimand anything that has happened between the two of you. You are both adults, and the circumstances of situations are that of the past. But a certain result of a decision made needs to be made clear to one of the two of you." Kagome's eyes dropped from his at that point, she knew what he was referring to. She did not speak but only nodded. They were quiet for a moment, before he broke the silence again.

"Kagome I love you dearly, I love Kisa, and I love my son. You are the best thing that ever happened to him and he knows that, sometimes he just needs a bit of reminding of these things. You have the patience and love for him that balance him out. I know you will tell him when you are ready and you two will resolve everything." He had gotten up at that point and Kagome followed, he then hugged her and kissed her forehead. She smiled up at him and nodded again.

"Well I should be headed back home before Izayoi calls Sesshomaru and the rest of the police to look for me." Kagome giggled and went open the door for him, as he walked out he turned around and smiled.

"Just think about what I said Kagome, and remember we are always here if you need anything."

"Thank you Inutashio, it really means a lot. I will think about it too, I know I need to tell him soon." With that said he hugged him one more time before he headed back to his car and she shut the door.

….

Inuyasha had just gotten home from Sesshomaru and Rin's house and it was about 6, he was making himself dinner as he kept thinking of what that old lady at the park said.

'She looks so much like you, she has your eyes. Such a special color they are.'

That thought just rang though his mind over and over again until the timer on the oven went off and broke him from his thoughts, making him slightly jumped and then sighed. He took his food out of the oven and then the rest of the night was normal as he ate dinner and then just watched some TV, until he fell asleep on the couch.

Kagome lay awake in her bed drawing in an old sketch pad, she couldn't sleep as she had a lot on her mind. She kept thinking about what Inutashio said, about her and Inuyasha having a bond. She thought about the years spent without him and how much she missed him, and wished he was there to help with Kisa.

She looked down at her drawing and noticed it was of him, but not just him, of his scars on his body. She looked down at the image and her eyes grew sad and she stopped drawing and tossed her sketch pad on the night stand and grabbed her phone. It was 3 in the morning, but she wanted to talk to him, so she sent him a text.

Kagome: Inu are you awake?

She hit send and then immediately regretted it, "What are you doing Kagome?" She sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair and hopped out of bed and went into her bathroom to start a bath.

….

He had just finished drinking his 3rd beer when his phone went off and he looked around franticly trying to find his phone. "What the hell!" He jumped up from the couch and pulled the cushions off the couch and threw them across the room, along with his phone which hit the wall. "Shit!" Once he retrieved the phone, he saw it was a text message from Kagome and then he saw the time, so he called her.

…..

Kagome was relaxing in her bubble bath with her candles and she was starting to doze off when her phone rang and almost scared her half to death. "H-hello."

I: "Kagome is everything okay?"

K: She gave a small laugh, "yeah I just couldn't sleep. I didn't know if you were awake or not. Sorry if I woke you."

I: "I don't really sleep, so don't worry about it. Is something on your mind that you can't sleep?"
Kagome was quite for a minute before she responded.

K: "Your dad came over to see me today." She heard Inuyasha sigh over the phone.

I: "What did he want?"

K: "To talk to me about you and me."

On the other end of the phone Inuyasha could have almost dropped it that was not what he was expecting her to say. He walked over to his fridge and opened it up and went to reach for another beer, but then stopped and grabbed the Vodka.

I: "And what did he have to say about that?"

Kagome took a deep breath and opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. It was silent for a few more moments.

I: "Kagome? You there?"

K: "Yeah I am sorry. Hold on for a second, let me get out of the bath."

Inuyasha blushed at the thought of her in the bath. He knew she was taking a bubble bath as she had stuff on her mind it was what she always did. The bathroom and bedroom would smell of lavender and vanilla for hours afterwards from her soap.

K: "Things between you and I Inuyasha are very different. We have always had a special relationship. Hell I have known you basically my whole life, you are the one person I can't remember not having a memory with. You will always be a part of my life. I shouldn't have treated you the way I did when you came back. That was wrong of me. But I don't know what we are anymore."

There was more silence, Inuyasha took multiple chugs of Vodka during that and he didn't know what to say; she continued.

K: "The other night at your house, I was so close to closing the gap between us. It is just so normal between us, something I have known since I was 12, and it is what I have always known."

I: "Kagome you are all I have thought of since I left. I told you it was the one thing I have regretted the most."

Kagome was sitting on her bed now holding the sketch she made and was running her fingers over the scars she drew from memory.

I: "You kept me going with everything that was handed to me. The nights were long out in places I didn't know, with people I didn't know. You were the only person I confided in for a long time Kagome, but I had to change along the way to become something else out there. The things I did and the things I saw were not something I want to ever relive. But I do, every time I close my eyes."

Kagome took in everything he said and knew that this was going to continue to be a long conversation so she made her way downstairs to make some tea.

I: "Being back around you makes things better again though. That isn't something I never want to put on you but you have always been my escape."

This was happening he was finally able to speak with her and it was making him nervous, he continued to drink the Vodka and became silent. Kagome let him continue as she made her tea.

I: "Did you ever think this is where we would be?"

K: "Hmmm what do you mean?"

I: "Me as this damaged person who barley knows how to act around people anymore. You a mother, a single one at that." Kagome was glad this was a conversation over the phone and he wasn't in the room with her at that comment, as she started to nervously mess with the spoon that lay next to her cup. "And you and me not together."

K: "I mean were you really much of a people person before Inuyasha?" She said with a small laugh.

I: "Keh. Enough."

They continued to talk about old times for a while longer and Kagome was now laying on the floor in the living room staring at the ceiling and started to laugh when Inuyasha started to talk about their prom disaster.

Flashback

Kagome was so ready for tonight to be the best night ever, it was prom night and she was so excited she had waited 3 years for this night with Inuyasha. Everything had to be perfect. She made sure that she got her dress in his favorite color (red), she made sure that there was a limo, and they were going to a restaurant before too! Inuyasha booked the fanciest restaurant in town and she was so excited to go with Miroku and Sango!

"Sango does my make-up look okay?" Kagome asked for the 3rdtime checking it in the mirror again. Sango rolled her eyes and laughed.

"Kagome for the 100thtime you look beautiful, Inuyasha is going to die when he sees you I promise! Kami help him!" Sango said adding one more curl to her hair that was half up and half down. Kagome turned around and hugged her best friend, "Oh tonight is going to be perfect! Aren't you excited Sango?!"

"I am, but if that boy lays one hand on my behind I swear he will wish that he never existed." Kagome laughed and then heard the limo horn honk, her eyes lit up and she grabbed Sango's hand and they ran downstairs.

When they got downstairs there stood both Inuyasha and Miroku and you could have scooped their jaws off the floor from them looking at Kagome and Sango. Sango went over to Miroku and gave a smile and then closed his mouth, "Don't catch flies now Miroku." He grabbed her hand and placed the corsage on it and then lightly kissed it, "Sango my dear, you are the most radiant thing I have ever seen." Sango blushed.

Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and she was looking down and her hands nervously, he lifted her chin so she would look at him and he melted into her chocolate eyes. "Kagome you look beautiful." He said as he kissed her cheek and then put her corsage on. "Thank you. You look very handsome." She said with a blush.

Dinner went perfect, and everything was going according to plan until they almost arrived to the location for the dance. The dance was being held downtown in a fancy hotel in their banquet hall, and they were about 20 mins away and the limo got a flat tire and then it started to rain.

"This is absolutely horrible! We are missing the prom!" Kagome said leaning against the window watching the rain. Inuyasha was leaning back against the seat and was starting to get irritated and leaned forward to talk to the driver.

"Yo driver guy where are the people to fix this tire we are late!" He yelled through the small window. The driver turned around and was not in a good mood, "I don't have anyone that can come out to fix this I'm sorry kid. Tough luck." Then he turned back around.

"Tough luck? TOUGH LUCK?!" Inuyasha yelled and was not right next to the window now, "Look here limo guy, I am paying you a lot of money tonight so I need you to get your shit together and figure this out!" Miroku now was pulling Inuyasha back.

"Now, now Inuyasha it is not this man's fault. We will just need to wait that is all." He tried to say calming Inuyasha down.

"I am not waiting we are already late, this man needs to call someone!" Inuyasha was yelling again and now banging on the window separating the front and the back seat area, the man rolled it up after the first comment.

The window rolled back down, the main was now angry. "Alright that is it. All of you out of my limo!" He screamed. Kagome and Sango looked at each other and then over to Miroku who now turned to Inuyasha. "Dude it is raining outside you can't kick us out!" Miroku was now yelling.

The man was now out of the car and opened the door that Kagome was next to, which made her gasp and then pulled her out, which did not please Inuyasha. The man had already pulled out Sango behind her though. A very angry Inuyasha and Miroku followed and Inuyasha went to Kagome, "Are you okay?" She nodded and then put her arms around herself because with the rain it was cold. The man had thrown out their clutches and then was already in the limo and then locked the doors.

Inuyasha ran over to the window and banged on it over and over, "You jack ass how dare you kick us out in the rain! We are paying you!" He yelled, Kagome went over to him and touched his arm, "Inu, come on it isn't worth it." He turned to her and saw the make-up running down her face and her starting to shiver, he removed his jacket and put it on her shoulders and pulled her closer to him.

"Let's go home you guys." Sango said pulling Miroku's jacket around her tighter, Miroku nodded and grabbed her hand and started walking.

They walked for about an hour and Miroku and Sango were well ahead of Kagome and Inuyasha when Inuyasha stopped. She looked over at him questioningly, "Inuyasha what is wrong?"

"Hey Miro, you guys go ahead, we will see you guys later." He called ahead, Sango and Miroku turned around and he nodded and then they went on. Inuyasha turned to Kagome and then looked down at her long red satin dress that was now melded to her body more so than before because it was wet and raised an eyebrow. "You dress is heavy isn't it?" Kagome looked at him and gave a small laugh, "Yeah it is getting heavy."

He let go of her hand and stepped back and then crouched down in front of her, her eyes grew wide. "Inu what are you doing?" He reached into his back pocket and flipped out his knife and reached for her dress.

"Whoa whoa whoa mister! What do you think you are doing!?" She said backing up from him, He looked up at her, "Kagome I am cutting your dress to help you walk." She shook her head, "This dress is expensive Inu!" She cried, he laughed and took her dress in her hand and cut it above her knee and then ripped.

"I like short dresses better anyway." He said and he stood up with a wink, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "Oh please! Tonight was an absolute disaster, don't even act like you think I am sexy right now! My hair is everywhere, my make-up is running, and I'm soaking wet. I might as well be a sewer rat!" She said now tears adding to the rain fall on her face.

He laughed, "Kagome you could be wearing a potato sack and I would think you are the sexiest thing I have ever seen." He then grabbed her face and kissed her, and she wrapped her arms up around his neck, then he pulled away. "I love you."

"I love you too Inuyasha"

End Flashback

K: "That was definitely a night. I still can't believe you cut my dress." She said laughing.

I: "Yeah well, like I said to you shorter dresses are always better."

Kagome rolled her eyes and was now doing things in the kitchen and she heard a scratch at her door and sighed, her neighbor's cat always came over because Kisa would feed it. She opened the door and gasped to see Inuyasha standing there holding the phone to his ear. "Hi." He said, she just stared at him and then finally answered. "Hi."

They both hung up their phones and she moved over and he stepped in and closed the door behind him, she just stared at him and then gulped.

"What are you doing here?" She said in a quiet voiced.

"Kagome I know we have a lot to talk about and things to go through, but I know that you want us to be together as much as I do." She just started at him and then he took that moment of silence as an opportunity to brush the hair out of her face and Kagome started to fidget with the bottom hem of her tank top. He smirked and pulled her closer to him and then took her lips in his in a hot passionate kiss and Kagome did not decline.

After what felt like an eternity, they both pulled back to heavy breathing and he looked down at her and smiled, as he reached behind himself and locked the door and then in one quick motion he picked her up. She gave a giggle and wrapped her legs around him and her arms around his neck and he carried her upstairs.

Once in the bedroom, he shut the door behind them and he set her down, she reach down for his shirt and slowly pulled it off and then began to slowly kiss each one of his scars. He watched her as she did so and then pulled off her shirt and gently set her back on the bed and continued to take his pants off, and she did the same. He walked towards her and she gently pulled him down onto the bed with her and his mouth again found hers.

…..

Kikyo awoke the next morning to loud noises down in the kitchen, and figured Kisa was awake before Kagome and figured she better get up. As she headed down stairs she saw Kisa was sitting at the table with a bowl and some cereal and her stuffed dog Kara. "Aunty Kikyo! Good morning!" she exclaimed with a mouth full of cereal. Kikyo laughed.

"Good morning sweetie, is your mommy not up yet?" She asked, she saw Kisa shrug and then Kikyo eyed the tea kettle that was out with water in it and then the cup with the tea bag. She continued to make coffee and then looked at the clock at saw that it was already 10:30, it was not like Kagome to sleep in.

"Kagome are you okay in there?" She said as she knocked and then opened the door and then gasped, "Oh sorry!" she then quickly shut the door from seeing the sight of her laying there talking with Inuyasha in bed, them both clearly naked under the sheets.

Kagome immediately turned bright red for forgetting to lock the door, "Oh boy! Time to get up." She said as she hopped out of the bed and went over to the dresser, Inuyasha watched as she did and just smiled. 'Why did I ever leave her?' he thought to himself. She slipped on some underwear and her bra and then turned around and laughed, "Like what you see Inu?" she said with a wink.

He laughed, and got out of bed and slipped on his boxers and pants and went over to her and grabbed her and kissed her neck. "Kicking myself for ever leaving it." He whispered in her ear which gave her goosebumps which made him laugh more.

She wiggled out of his arms and went to her closet and grabbed and dress and threw it on. Before she opened the door she turned around, "But you came back." She said with a smile and then walked out the door.
