Chapter 15

Kagome walked into the dining room and kissed the top of Kisa's head, who immediately looked up at her and smiled and then her eyes grew wide with excitement when she saw Inuyasha behind her. "Oh Inuyasha you are here!" She hopped out of her chair and ran over to him and he picked her up.

"Good morning munchkin, how are you today?" He asked, she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.

"I'm good! I am going over to Mrs. Izayoi's today to play at her pool with Souta and Kyo!" She said with excitement.

"Oh gosh I totally forgot!" Kagome said as she slumped down into the kitchen chair, Kikyo stood up and looked over at Kagome.

"I will take her over there, you guys can have some alone time." She said as she put her arms out to Kisa to take her from Inuyasha, who let her go. She then put Kisa down and she grabbed her stuffed dog and ran out of the room to go get ready for the pool.

"Thank you Kikyo, I will be over there later." Kagome said with a smile to her cousin, Kikyo shook her head, "No problem. See you then." As she started to walk away she nodded towards him as well, "Inuyasha."

He gave her a quick nod as she left the room, he then sat down next to Kagome and looked over at her. "I am sorry about Kikyo coming in this morning." She said as her face started to turn crimson, he reached over and took her hand.

"Don't worry about it, last night was a bit unplanned." She gave a small laugh, "Yeah it was definitely something I wasn't expecting. It was nice though." She said with a smile, he gave a small smile back and then got up and kissed her forehead as he headed into the kitchen to grab some coffee.

"MOMMY I CAN'T FIND MY BATHING SUIT!" Kisa screamed from upstairs, Kagome laughed and rolled her eyes and headed upstairs to help her. She walked into Kisa's room to see clothes thrown everywhere and Kikyo was going through the dresser drawers, "Sorry Kagome I couldn't find it"

Kagome laughed, "And who started throwing clothes everywhere?" She asked raising an eyebrow at Kisa who was in the closet continuing to throw clothes.

"Mommy I want the one with the flowers. The red one." Kagome smiled and shook her head, "Kisa baby how about you go in the hall closet and get the pool toys and the pool bag and me and Aunt Kikyo will find the bathing suit." Kisa smiled and ran out of the room.

As they looked they also started the fold and hang up the clothes Kisa threw about the room, "So it seems that you and Inuyasha are getting along MUCH better." Kikyo said with a laugh, Kagome looked away quickly and blushed.

"A little bit yes." She said while trying to hold back a giggle, Kikyo shook her head and rolled her eyes, "Kagome a little bit is having lunch or dinner together, not sharing a bed naked."

Kagome's eyes grew wide and she blushed at the honesty of the comment, "W-well we were talking about old times, and he just ended up at the front door."

"Uh-huh and then your clothes just magically fell onto the floor and you had to cuddle together naked for warmth." She said with a laugh, Kagome turned around quickly and threw a stuffed animal at her.

After some more rummaging Kagome finally found Kisa's bathing suit just as the toddler came in dragging a large bag behind full of towels, sunscreen, and pool toys. "Here baby here is your bathing suit, let's get you dress so you can go over to swim. Auntie Sango and the boys are probably there by now."

"They are." Inuyasha said from the doorway, where he watched Kagome dress Kisa. Kikyo turned and looked at him surprised because she didn't know he was there. He held out his phone, "Miroku just called me to see what I was doing since Sango is off to the pool with them. He was complaining he was left alone." He said, to which both Kagome and Kikyo laughed.

Kisa was finally dressed and running down the stairs with her stuffed dog in hand and with Kikyo behind her. "Alright mommy I will see you later, love you!" With that they were both out the door.

Kagome went to clean up the kitchen and as she was doing the dishes she slightly jumped as she could feel Inuyasha's chest on her back. She gave a small smile and turned around to face him and then it fell, he noticed this and took a step back.

"Kagome what's wrong?" She was quiet for a moment and then looked at the sink full of dishes and then looked up at him and then the memory continued in her head.

Flashback

She walked into her apartment and heard slamming noises coming from the kitchen, she put her backpack down on the floor next to the couch and walked into the kitchen to see Inuyasha standing in front of the stove, she smiled and walked up behind him and went up on her toes to kiss his cheek. He Stopped stirring and turned towards her with an unpleasant look on his face, she gave him a questioning look,

"What's wrong Inu?"

"Where the hell have you been it's almost 11?" he practically yelled. Kagome backed up a bit at the sudden raise in his voice, but then her temper spiked.

"Are you serious Inuyasha?! I told you I have an exam this Friday and I needed to get some studying done, I was at the library just calm down." She had had a rough morning of hard classes and then had a hard day at work, then had to spend 4 mind-numbing hours studying at the library with her classmate Hojo, she was in no mood for fighting right now.

"I'm not gonna calm down, you are never home anymore and I'm sure you were with some guy, I'm sure it was that loser Hojo, wasn't it?!"

Kagome slammed the fridge shut and turned towards him, "He's my freaking lab partner, I don't control those things. You are completely overreacting and being a jerk about this!" She yelled, Inuyasha turned back to what he was cooking and mumbled under his breathe, "I'm sure you were at his house not at the library."

Kagome gasped and grabbed his arm and spun him around, "You actually think I would be at his house fooling around!" He shoved her hand off of him, "I don't know what you do anymore Kagome, but lately you have been nothing but a bitch about everything!" He then was over cooking and flipped off the burner and threw the pan in the sink causing Kagome to jump from the loud noise; then he continued to yell, "Ever since you started medical school you have spent more time with your dumb lab partner than your boyfriend. I'm tired of being here by myself while you're off with Hojo fooling around."

Kagome was silent for a few minutes and then said something, barely above a whisper. "Get out."

Inuyasha looked straight at her bewildered, "W-What?" He stammered.

"You heard me, if you really think that after 3 years of dating and living together for a year, and being best friends since we were 3 that I would go and cheat on you with someone like Hojo then I don't want you here. So leave you clearly don't want to be here with a bitch!" Kagome said with tears in her eyes, Inuyasha just shook his head in anger, "This isn't about all of that this is about you thinking that your time is better well spent with you school friends, am I too dumb for you now! Is that it?!"

"What are you talking about?! You're pulling that out of your ass! That is not true and you know it Inuyasha, I have loved you since I was 8 years old and you think I threw it all away. You know medical school is my dream and we talked about that." She said moving towards him, trying to grab his hand the tears were flowing faster now, He shook his head and pulled his hand away.

"I'll pick up my stuff tomorrow when you're in class. Goodbye Kagome." He said as he walked past her and grabbed his keys and left her standing in the middle of her living room crying.

End Flashback

"Kagome?" He said as he reached for her hand, now concerned with her silence. She blinked and few times, and as she did so he noticed her eyes had gotten a bit glassy, and she sighed.

"I'm sorry, just thinking. Hey, I have a lot to do today and I have to catch up on some work stuff so I will call you later okay?" She said as she leaned up and kissed his cheek. He nodded and grabbed his phone off the table and then turned back to her.

"I'm glad last night happened." He said and then leaned in and kissed her, she gave a small smile and nodded and then he left.

As soon as the front door closed Kagome let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, all the feeling from the night he left and then from last night all came crashing down on her and once. She slumped into the kitchen chair and put her head down and sighed. "Shit"

A short while later, Inuyasha found himself at Miroku and Sango's house knocking on his front door. The door opened to reveal Miroku standing there with his cheesy grin, "Ah Inuyasha was brings you over."

Inuyasha walked past him and straight to the living room where he laid on the couch. "I've done something stupid." Miroku snickered and walked to sit in the chair near the couch.

"And what else is new my friend?" He asked with a sly look on his face, Inuyasha put his hands over his face and let out a loud exasperated sigh. Miroku took this as a sign to get some drinks, now it was a bit too early for alcohol so he just settled with some waters. As he came back he put Inuyasha's glass on the side table and then waited for his friend to elaborate.

"I had sex with Kagome last night." Inuyasha said after a few moments of silence, Miroku spit out the water he had in his mouth and began choking. After a moment he cleared his throat and sat back in the chair as if nothing had happened.

"Well that is something. I wasn't aware that you two had gotten close again?" Inuyasha sat up on the couch and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Miroku, since I came back from the service I have a bit of a drinking problem. I do it to try and numb the thoughts and pain I feel; it is one of the many things I am not proud of." Miroku just sat and listened to his best friend, waiting for him to continue as he could tell that wasn't the end of his explanation.

"She texted late last night and I had already been drinking, and then I called her and we talked for a few hours and as we talked I drank some more. Let's just say I wasn't fully thinking as I made my way to her house last night."

He has stopped talking and Miroku sat there for a moment before speaking, "And you regret being with her?" He asked a bit confused; immediately Inuyasha shook his head and was now standing and pacing the floor.

"No! Not at all! But I think it was too soon. Hell maybe it wasn't even going to happen again!" He said as he continued to pace. "Miroku we were standing in the kitchen this morning and she pulled away and started to act weird."

Miroku watched as his friend tried to piece together the events that had been unfolding between him and Kagome, then he continued. "I fucked this up with her too many times." He said and then finally sat down and put his head in his hands. Miroku sat there in silence with Inuyasha for a few moments before breaking it.

"If Kagome didn't want that to happen she wouldn't have let you inside her house last night Inuyasha. She is an adult and can make decisions as well; of course hers may not be indulged by alcohol all the time." He said matter-of-factly, Inuyasha sighed again and leaned back on the couch.

She didn't know what to do, she had so many thoughts running through her head, so she did all she knew how to do. She went to work to get somethings done, she had to keep herself busy. As she made her way to the lab, she sat down in the corner and took out her laptop. She had plenty of reports to work on as well as some labs to review from some surgeries she had coming up.

"Kagome!" A male voice rang as he walked over to her in the empty lab, she looked up from her laptop and gave a smile. "Oh great just what I needed." She thought to herself as Kouga took a seat across from her.

"I haven't seen you in a few days, how have you been?" He asked as he pulled out his laptop as well, "I have been good, just busy with work and home life. How about you?" She said, she didn't like small talk it was awkward, especially if you don't know the person, but she wasn't going to be rude.

"I have been great! I have been thinking about your beautiful face a lot." With that comment Kagome's face grew a bit hot, she was not expecting that to come up and found it a bit off putting. She was silent as she didn't know what to say, so he continued.

"I am sorry, I don't mean to be so forward but you are beautiful and since that day we bumped into each other it is all I can think about. I have been hoping to run into you again so we could talk." She continued to just stare at him in silence, "You know, get to know each other?" She swallowed a bit and then nodded and put on a fake smile and then looked back down to her laptop, couldn't she just get a moment of solitude.

They sat in silence for a bit before he broke the silence again with more questions, which she answered to not be rude again. He asked about her daughter, since most of the hospital knew she had a kid, because sometimes she worked a weird schedule. He asked about her friends and then any possible boyfriends. Clearly he had an agenda with this conversation but she had no time to fight it as she was trying to focus.

Finally was seemed like her whole day, he finally finished his review of his x-rays and shut his laptop, "I hope we can do more of this Kagome." He said as he stood up and reach out for her hand, she found that bit odd but offered her hand; thinking it was for a handshake. But to her dismay he turned her hand in his and kissed the back on it. She blushed slightly at this as well. "Until we meet again." He said and with that he left Kagome to be alone in the lab again.

She let out a loud audible "UGH" and then shut her laptop. She looked up at the clock and figured it was time to head home, there wasn't much she was getting done at this point and just wanted to go have some tea. Kikyo had already texted her to let her know that they were on their way home anyways.

When she got home Kikyo was just coming down stairs and said Kisa fell asleep on the way home, then she took at seat next to Kagome on the couch. "So are we gonna talk about it?" She asked breaking the silence, Kagome shrugged her shoulders.

"What do you want to talk about?" Kikyo's face lit up and she turned towards her cousin and sat with her legs crossed, like she was a teenager about to gossip about boys, Kagome laughed at this.

"Okay so how was it?" Kagome immediately turned red and turned away from her, "Oh my god seriously Kikyo!" She exclaimed, to which Kikyo just laughed.

"Oh come on, you were head over heels for him in high school and would constantly gush and now is when you decide to be conservative!" Kagome laughed again, and then spoke.

"It was amazing, being so close to him again it was real. It wasn't a dream. It was like the last 5 years didn't even happen." She said and then became silent and her smile fell, "But they did happen and those memories came back full-fledged this morning." Kikyo notice her change in statue and internally sighed. "So close, yet so far." She thought to herself.
