A/N: Alright guys, I know it has been a while but I finally got around to writing more! I hope you guys enjoy this chapter! Let's get into it!

CHAPTER 18

Sango has just gotten Shiouri down for her nap and it was going on 12:30pm and she had already started the laundry so she had a few minutes to herself. As soon as she sat down on the couch there was a light knock at the door to which she let out a sigh for. "I can't get two minutes to myself." She got up from the couch and went over to her front door and opened it to see Kikyo.

"Hey what are you doing here, I thought you were back working again?" Sango asked as she stepped to the side to let her in.

"I start back tomorrow, I wanted to come over and talk to you about Kagome." They had both made their way back into the living room where they both sat on the couch.

"What about Kagome, is she okay? Is something wrong with Kisa?" Sango asked getting a bit worried. Kikyo held up her hand and shook her head to stop her, "No, nothing like that. I wanted to talk about Kagome and Inuyasha."

Sango nodded and knew where this conversation was going. Kikyo was not around for the fall out that Kagome and Inuyasha had, her and Naraku had just gotten married and still lived in the city at the time. They didn't move back to the current neighborhood until right before Kisa was born. Sure, she knew of the situation as she was pretty close with Kagome, talking to her almost every day, and would even come and stay with her so she wasn't always alone during the pregnancy. But she wasn't there all the time to see how broken she was when he had left and when she found out about Kisa. "What specifically about them?" She asked.

"I assume she told you about the other night?" Kikyo asked, which Sango nodded to and then Kikyo realized it was a dumb question, of course Kagome had told her.

"Well ever since that night Kagome has been acting very distant. I just see her staring off in the distance a lot and she has been very quiet, I'm a bit worried."

Sango was quiet for a moment and then started, "She was very similar after he left. She is in her head with everything going on, I talked to her yesterday and she mentioned them starting over. But I know Kagome is over analyzing the situation with Kisa and just doesn't know what to do."

"I don't understand why she just won't tell him. He does have a right to know." Sango leaned back against the couch and nodded, "He does but when he came back, she was just angry and didn't want to tell him out of anger. Now that they are starting to get closer, she's afraid of how he'll react to the news. She's afraid she'll lose him all over again, but for good this time; which I fear she won't fully recover from."

Kagome was so thankful Kikyo took Kisa to school today because she was exhausted from work last night. She had just woken up from sleeping for a few hours and just couldn't sleep anymore so she decided to get up and do some cleaning. She started in Kisa's room and then made her way into the kitchen.

It had been a few hours and it was going on 4pm and she was grabbing her things to walk out the door to go get Kisa. As she was headed out the door a man called up to her from the curb at the end of her driveway. "Are you Kagome Higurashi?" She nodded and he came walking up to her with a vase full of flowers; she looked at him confused. "I have this delivery for you. Have a good day miss." He said as he handed her the flowers and then walked back to his van.

Kagome looked down at the flowers and then saw a card, she got slight butterflies in her stomach thinking that maybe Inuyasha sent them. She went back into the condo to read the card and put them on the table. As she opened the card and read the message her butterflies immediately died and turned to a knot.

My Dearest Kagome,

I cannot stop thinking of you as I have expressed before, I hope these flowers brighten your day as your smile does for me. Would you do me the honor of having dinner with me this Friday night? I will await your answer eagerly.

She rubbed her eyes in frustration and sighed, "I can't deal with this right now" She put the card on the table and turned around and left to go get her daughter.

In the car on the way to pick her up Kagome called Rin to vent about the flowers. "I just don't understand this man, I don't even know him I bumped into him that one time in the elevator and it is like he is stalking me to try and talk to me. Did I tell you he cornered me in the labs?"

Rin gave a small laugh, "Yeah you did mention that. So, he just sent you flowers randomly? How did he even get your address?"

"I don't even know Rin! That is the worst part, I have talked to him only a few times and now he is trying to take me on a date and send me flowers!" Kagome was getting so irritated just talking about it as she sat in the pick-up line at Kisa's school.

Rin was in the kitchen baking, as it was something to keep her busy as she stayed at home so she had the phone on speaker so she could multitask. She walked over to the pantry to get chocolate chips for her cookies so she didn't hear Inuyasha come in. She was speaking louder so Kagome could hear her from the pantry. "Maybe you should tell Sesshomaru and he can do a background check on the guy before you go on your date." She said with a laugh in a joking manner.

Kagome audibly scoffed on the other end of the line, "Yes, let me just tell your husband that I have a stalker at work that won't leave me alone and is sending me flowers to my home address. That should go over well." As she finished that sentence Rin had come out of the pantry to see Inuyasha standing in the kitchen and staring at the phone on the island; the look on his face was not a pleasant one.

"Uh hey Kags I will call you back in a little while okay?" She said looking at Inuyasha and giving a smile. 'Oh, please don't say anything before she hangs up Inu.' She thought to herself.

"Yeah, that is probably for the best. I am steaming right now and Kisa's class should be out in a minute. I will talk to you later, love you, bye!"

"Love you, bye!" Rin said and then hit the end button on her screen and then turned to Inuyasha, and before she could even say anything, he had already started. "What the hell was that about?"

Rin knew there was no way of backing out of this because he knew Kagome's voice and heard most of it.

"Kagome got sent flowers from some guy at work that apparently likes her and, in the note, he asked her out. She was calling to vent about it, she clearly isn't happy about it."

Inuyasha didn't say anything for a few minutes he just sat down on one of the barstools so Rin went back to making her cookies. She was just putting them in the over and turned to start doing the dishes when she noticed Inuyasha had made his way over to the sink and started to do them. "Sit." Was all he said, which she did not object to, her ankles were swollen and her feet and back were killing her.

"Do you know who this guy is?" He asked as he continued to wash the dishes, she shook her head. "No and Kagome only just met the guy but he has gone out of his way to talk to her a few times and now sent these flowers. What a weirdo right? How do you just send flowers to someone you don't know to ask them out and do so by finding out her address. Absolute creeper!"

Inuyasha didn't say anything else but she could feel the tension coming off his body from across the room, he was trying real hard not to explode, she could tell. "What are you doing here by the way, I didn't know you were coming over today?"

"Sesshomaru texted me and wanted me to come over because he was going to be late tonight. He is out in the feild he said he texted you but you didn't respond, so here I am." Rin reached for her phone and frowned a bit, she hated when he worked late and especially when he went out and not in his office where he was safe.

Inuyasha had finished the dishes and went to sit next to her at the bar, "He will be home soon." She looked over at him and gave a half smile and nodded.

"Well, if he isn't going to be here then I'm ordering pizza and he can't say anything to me about it!" She said excitedly and dialed up the pizza place, Inuyasha shook his head and just laughed at her.

Inuyasha and Rin ate pizza and then watched some movies and it was already 45 minutes after 9 and Sesshomaru still wasn't home and Rin was getting nervous. She had gotten up from the couch and was pacing the room now and it was starting to make Inuyasha anxious.

"Rin can you please sit down, you are setting me on edge?" She shook her head, "No I can't. I have really bad heart burn, stupid pizza, and I don't know where my husband is and he isn't answering my texts. This is why I don't like him in the field. When he became Captain it made things easier, and here he is out on the field again!" She was now so upset she was using her hands to talk. Inuyasha got up from the couch and stood in front of her to stop her pacing, he then placed his hands on her shoulders.

"Rin my brother is fine and will be home soon. Please sit down, I will go get you some antacids okay?" He asked, she didn't say anything just nodded. With that being said he went down the hall to the bathroom and went to find her some medicine.

"Inuyasha!" He dropped the open bottle of pills and came running into the living room to see Rin bent over and holding her stomach; he immediately ran over to her.

"Rin are you okay?" He then noticed that he was standing in something wet and looked down to see a puddle underneath her. "Oh. Okay that is gross." Rin was breathing heavy and looked up at Inuaysha, "Time to go." She said in between breaths, he just stared at her for a second, a bit in shock and then shook his head clear, "Right okay, let's go."

Rin showed him where the hospital bag was and he grabbed that and then helped Rin to her car and they headed to the hospital. On the way there he tried calling Sesshomaru multiple times to no avail. Rin was breathing her way through contractions and they soon made it to the hospital about 20 minutes later. By the time they got there she was screaming at Inuyasha for her husband and demanding someone give her medicine.

The nurse at triage was getting information from Inuyasha when he saw Kagome walk by him and then she quickly came over to him. "What are you doing here?" She asked a bit surprised to see him.

"Well Rin's water broke." Kagome's eye grew wide and she looked at her watch and then back at Inuyasha. "She is a week early, is she okay? Wait where is Sesshomaru?"

As he told her about his night with Rin and that Sesshomaru was out in the field and they couldn't reach him she walked with him to the room that she was in. Before they entered the room, a nurse let them know she was resting waiting for her epidural.

"I swear to Kami if someone doesn't give me something for this pain, I will stab someone!" Rin was yelling as Kagome and Inuyasha came into the room.

"Rin they are working on it sweetie. How's my momma?" Rin's face softened as she looked at Kagome, "I will be better when I get some drugs, also when someone gets ahold of my husband."

"I will try calling him, Inuyasha is going to stay in here with you. I unfortunately have to go back to my patient he should be waking up from surgery. But I will be back later okay?" Rin nodded and then winced as another contraction started.

Inuyasha walked with Kagome out into the hallway, "Sorry I sort of volunteered you to just stay with her." She said to him as he leaned up against the door.

"No don't be, I was going to stay with her anyways. I don't want her to be alone." Kagome smiled at that, "Did you call your parents?"

"Yeah, I called and they will be here soon, they were sleeping when I called. I also called Sango and Miroku. Sango said she would be up here and Miroku is staying with the kids." She nodded and then the intercom came on, "DR HIGURASHI YOU ARE NEEDED IN ICU. DR HIGURASHI WANTED IN ICU." Kagome sighed, "Well that's me. I will back in a bit to check on her and I will keep tabs from my floor."

"See ya." He said with a nod.

As Kagome walked away Inuyasha was about to go back into the room when he heard a male voice call out to her. He turned to see a man with long black hair that was tied up jog up to Kagome, Inuyasha gave a glare as he overheard their conversation. "Hey Kagome did you get the flowers?" Kagome gave a small smile, which he could clearly tell was fake but this man could not. "I did, it was very sweet of you. Thank you." At that point he could no longer hear the conversation as they were walking down the hallway, but before they turned a corner Kagome turned back and gave Inuyasha a smiled.

A few hours before – Right after Sesshomaru texted Inuyasha

He wanted to have someone at the house with Rin at all times just in case she needed to go to the hospital. He would prefer to have Kagome there 24/7, but knows she can't do that as she has to work and has Kisa. He was getting more and more anxious as the due date was coming closer. Rin only had one more week and he was freaking out; he was scared to be a father. He wanted to make sure that Rin and this baby had everything, and that he was involved in every part of this baby's life.

As he was in his thoughts, he was mindlessly working on files for his team's cases when an officer came running into his office. Immediately he looked up with a glare at the younger officer, who regretted his actions of not knocking and barging in right away.

"Sorry Captain, but we got a call that the Takibi drug hideout has been found." Sesshomaru calmly closed his laptop and leaned back in his chair.

"Well, that is good news, but why are you telling me instead of Sergeant Ikeda exactly?"

The officer looked back out into the office where the detectives were and back at Sesshomaru, "The Sergeant isn't here yet, so I thought I would let you know. I wasn't sure if you wanted Fujita to lead?"

Sesshomaru was quiet for a moment while he thought about it, Fujita was a good officer but this case hit home for him since he worked on it when he was an officer. "Tell Fujita I will lead with him on the run. We will leave in 15."

The young officer just stared at him blankly for a moment, as he wasn't expecting his Captain to volunteer to come on a drug bust with them, but then he nodded and left.

**AFTER THE DRUG BUST***

The drug bust went about as good as it could go, a few of Takibi's men were taken down by the officers and there were just minor injuries among the officer's themselves. As the remainder of the men were being loaded into squad cars Sesshomaru heard his radio go off.

"Captain Takahashi. Come in Captain." Sesshomaru jumped into his car and grabbed the radio to respond.

"This is Takahashi"

"Captain, Kagome has called up here multiple times. Rin is in labor."

Sesshomaru felt his stomach drop and immediately reached in his glove box to get his phone, it wasn't there. Then he checked his pockets, along with the middle console and still couldn't find his phone. "Shit."

"10-4" He said back and then went to tell the rest of the officers he was leaving; he quickly got back into his squad car and hurried to the hospital.

BACK AT THE HOSPITAL

Kagome has just come back into Rin's room to see her with her head in a bowl throwing up and Izayoi rubbing her back. After Rin was down being sick, Izayoi handing her a wash cloth to wipe her mouth and then gave her a cup full of ice chips.

"How are you doing Rin?" Kagome asked as she sat on the side of the bed. Rin looked up at her and was sweating and her eyes were tired, it had been 3 hours and she still was only dilated at 5 cm.

"I am in pain, nauseous, tired, and I don't know where my husband is. How do you think I am?" She said with an irritated tone, Kagome just nodded and checked her watch and saw it was going on 12:15AM. Right after Rin answered her, she started crying and grabbed Kagome's hand.

"Oh, Kags I'm sorry! I didn't mean to snap at you. I just have so many emotions going on." Kagome laughed and put her other hand on top on Rin's and gave her a smile.

"Don't apologize Rin, I know the feeling. Just keep breathing and I will go get your nurse to make sure she gets you something for nausea." Rin smiled back and nodded.

As Kagome walked out of the room, she bumped into Inuyasha, "Oh sorry!" She quickly exclaimed as he held her shoulders to steady her, which she immediately relaxed into. He looked down and her and gave a smirk, "Well hello, thought you still had patients?"

"They let me have the rest of the night off since they heard Rin was here, plus I finished with my last patient about 20 minutes ago. So, I am free, I was just going to talk with Rin's nurse about medicine though."

"I'll join you." Kagome nodded and gave him a smile before turning to walk down the hall over to the nurse's counter.

As Kagome talked with the nurse about medications and Rin's vitals Inuyasha just watched her contently as she talked with her co-worker. He saw how intelligent she was and could tell how hard she had worked for where she had made it. She had wanted to help people since she was a child and here she was working her dream job; he was taken over by a feeling of guilt for not being with her through all of her hard work. He knew there were many nights that she didn't sleep and just studied and then would go work her internship the next day. If he was there, he could have helped her through it, it wouldn't have had to be Kisa's father that was "there" it could have been him.

"Inuyasha?" Kagome was looking up at him trying to get his attention, "Hello earth to Inuyasha." His thoughts broke and he looked down at her, "Sorry, what?"

She laughed and grabbed his hand and led him back to the waiting room near Rin's room. They sat down on a double chair and Kagome didn't let go of his hand. A few moments later Izayoi came and sat down across from them and sat next to her husband, she looked over at them and smiled but then it fell as she looked at Kagome.

"Kagome dear, have you not been sleeping you looked exhausted?" She said with concern tinting her voice, Inuyasha looked down at Kagome who was resting her head on his shoulder and he could see the dark circles under her eyes.

"I am fine, I just have been covering some extra shifts is all. No big deal." She said trying to avoid the lecture that she knew Izayoi was itching to give; but instead, she just gave a comforting smile. Inuyasha thought it was odd for his mother to not push her further, but that just meant that this was not a rare occurrence for Kagome and that worried him.

About 10 mins had passed and everyone was out in the waiting area to let Rin try and rest a bit since everyone had been in and out of there since she arrived. As they were all sitting there Kagome has dozed off on Inuyasha's shoulder and Sango was talking with Izayoi and Inutashio so they didn't notice Sesshomaru run in, but Inuyasha did.

"Where is she? Is she okay, is the baby here?!" Sesshomaru said almost out of breath, everyone turned to look at him and now Kagome was awake. She stood up and led him to her room, as soon as Rin saw him, she started crying and he hugged her.

"Rin I am so sorry. I am here." Rin pulled away from hugging him to punch him in the chest, which surprised both him and Kagome; on that note she decided to leave them alone.

"Where have you been?! Where is your phone! Are you crazy, I don't want to do this alone!" She was now yelling, he took a deep breath and sat in bed next to her and pulled her into his arms.

"I know, I am so sorry. I left my phone in my desk at work and I went out with the officers tonight. But I am here now." Rin just nodded and hugged her husband.
