This is my first story so please leave a review and tell me what you think.

The eternal assassin

In the beginning there was nothing, yet there was something. Existence. For without existence there is nothing.

Many stories and legends have been told and forgotten about existence. Some believe it to be a collection of aspects, the so called "aspects of existence". Others believe it to be a pair of brothers, one representing the light and the other darkness.

From existence came dust. It was the very essence of what came to be the elements.

It is believed that the different types of dust bonded together and created something new. Something that had never come before.

Life. On the new world formed from dust came the dustlings.

The dustlings were quite a crafty bunch, building villages cities and eventually empires. But all good things must at some point end.

The empires went to war against each other and there was no hope for peace. Billions of lives were lost and humanity was on the brink of extinction yet the war didn't end.

But then it was as if something ancient, something extraordinarily powerful had awoken.

Existence had watched its creations tear each other apart limb from limb but when the end of all was mere seconds left something happened.

The dustlings of old were erased and a new dust-born would come to take its place. These new dustlings were different, they held the power of soul. But with this new race came also their natural opposition. The grimm. Creatures without a soul created for the sole purpose of keeping the dust-born from repeating their elders mistakes.

The remnant of the old world came to be one of bloody evolution were the dustlings, now known as man, had to adapt and evolve to be able to survive.

The powers of the soul aura and semblance was their weapon and only hope against the grimm. Their entire existence had been a trial in fire but the simple soul prevailed.

Many new stories and legends came to be told and forgotten among man. Yet there was one that stuck out. It was the legend of the eternal assassin.

"Alea Schwarz, or should I say Rectus Strelok?"

The man before "Ozpin" as he calls himself could be described with one word, mysterious. He had hair like polished steel, brown eyes that always seemed to hold unclear intentions within them. His attire was flamboyant as always With a black suit, a green scarf and a pair of crocked round spectacles.

"You know that I don't go by that name anymore and for your second question I think you already know the answer."

I replied without letting any emotion slip into my voice.

"Business as always isn't it?"

"Cut the pleasantries Oz, we both know that you didn't track me down just to talk. So answer me now before I leave, what do you want?

I asked anger and irritation starting to seep into my voice. Ozpin always had this way of annoying me in a way no one else truly could. His vague speech and constant half-truths would always drive me up the wall.

"You really haven't changed a bit over the years Alea, but I suppose I should get to the point. It is time for me to call in that favor.

I groan knowing that I have no way to get out of whatever Ozpin is planning, the man had enough dirt on me to ruin everything I've built over the years so escaping was not an option.

"What do you need me to do Oz?"

"You Alea, I need you. There is this young girl coming to Beacon this year, she's the daughter of an old acquaintance of yours. Her name is Ruby Rose, your job is to mentor her but you will also be given a teaching position at the school, specifically in the subjects of tracking and marksmanship."

"Really Oz? You want me to babysit some bloody children and to mentor Summer's brat?."

"I wouldn't describe it that way but yes, that is what I want from you."

It suppose it could be worse but that still doesn't mean I have to be happy about it, but having me mentor Summer's child knowing our history has to be a new low even for Oz.

"Since I really don't have a choice in this I accept your proposal. When do I start?"

"You will start at the start of the new term beginning in a month where I will announce you as our latest addition to the staff."

I stand up from the piece of debris that had served as a chair during our chat and looked out over the barren environment of Mount Glenn. The only structures in sight being some half finished buildings that had been abandoned long ago.

"As nice as it has been talking to you Oz I have a job to do. I'll see you at Beacon."

I left before the man even had a chance to respond leaving him alone in the ruins of Mt. Glenn.
