Chapter 1: Candy Bar Invitations
One hot second Saturday of September 2020, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Heather Chessin's house in Cheswick. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. Heather was making her Candy Bar Invitations for her Sugar Rush Sleepover in 2 weeks. We sat down to eat breakfast, which was omelets, key lime pie for dessert, and juice to drink. "I have a super duper announcement for everyone," I told my friends. I cleared my throat. "Since 2002 may win for this sleepover, I have decided to bring up a very important moment in our lives." "What's that, Angel?" James asked. "When we all met each other at your parents' wedding at the Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church for the first time," I stated. "I remember that wonderful day when we were all introduced to one another." "That's cool," Heather remarked. "Did you have wedding cake?" "We sure did," Henri replied, licking his lips. "That makes me want a piece of pie right now!" "Hold on, Henri," James stated. "Recently, I was looking up Highlands yearbooks on and found yearbooks from when we were all friends," I pointed out. "Did you find any Freeport yearbooks, Angel?" James asked. "No, James," I replied. "Did you have a favorite memory from school?" Heather asked. "Yes, Heather," Sarah replied. "My honors banquet at the same church as the wedding when I was a freshman at Freeport Area High School." "I went to several honors banquets during my high school career," Heather pointed out. "All the fancy food and all the sugary sweets." Then, as we drove Heather to help deliver her invitations, we had a talk with her about active listening skills, which was a topic that we learned from our meeting in Greenfield the previous day. We told Heather how important it is to actively listen to anybody, whether they be best friends, staff members, college professors, or even family members. Heather also delivered the invitations to her 4 guests Alessandra, Soriya, Kayla, and Paige. "I am surprised that the foreign exchange girls didn't go back home," I pointed out. "Well, it's because of the coronavirus," Heather explained. "I am taking mostly online classes this semester for the same reason, until I feel that it is safe to return to campus." After our shift was over, Sarah, James, and Henri drove me back to my mom's apartment in Highland Park. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Bye, guys!" "Bye!"
