Chapter 4
Renesmee's POV
"Ow! God damn it! Son of a bitch!" I cried out as I'd just gotten out of the shower and accidentally banged my foot when I heard my phone go off. What annoyed me more was that I'd left it on my dressing table, so I literally had to hop on one foot whilst holding my towel around me as I opened the bathroom door.
I then went to check my phone and saw I had six missed calls, three from Aunt Rosalie, one from Elijah and two from Tyler.
"Balls" I cursed feeling annoyed at myself for missing so many calls, though I wasn't at all bothered about Tyler because honestly I would have just ignored him anyway.
"You know someone should really consider washing your mouth out with soap" came a voice say from out of nowhere making me scream as I spun round to see my blonde vampire friend sat cross legged on my bed.
"Rebekah! What the hell? You nearly gave me a heart attack" I scorned her placing my hand on my chest.
"Well that's no way to greet your best friend, and here I was thinking you'd give me a big hug" Rebekah pouted.
"Greeting someone does not involve sneaking up on a person and almost scaring them half to death" I said.
"Keyword, 'almost'" Rebekah pointed out smiling as I rolled my eyes.
"And for the record I would hug you but…as you can see I've only just stepped out of the shower" I said gesturing to my still wet body.
"And here I was thinking you were trying to tell me something" Rebekah smirked.
"Not funny. Anyway where the heck have you been all this time? You said you were only going to run some errands but you were gone almost six months" I said.
"Lets just say there were a few…shall we say complications I had to deal with before I could come back. Also I found out that one of my brothers is in town so I'll be paying him a visit shortly" Rebekah said.
"Hopefully you won't give him a near heart attack as well. How did you even get in here anyway?" I asked.
"The door was unlocked, plus I did knock but none answered" she shrugged.
"Riiiigght none answered but you thought you'd just wander in anyway" I asked her.
"Well when I heard you singing in the shower I just couldn't resist" she said grinning.
Oh she did not.
"You heard that?" I asked her as she then pointed to her ears. "Point taken, though you will speak of it none" I told her.
"My lips are sealed, though you should try listening to yourself sing once in while. Your really good" she said.
"Thanks but I'd rather listen to High School Musical than myself" I said going back into the bathroom to get dressed. "Changing the subject though are you only in town temporary or will you be staying round this time?" I asked hoping for the second option.
"Well when I first arrived last year it was only supposed to a temporary visit. I'd planned to just visit a few sights then just leave" she said.
"So what changed your mind?" I asked.
"Its funny you should ask that because the day before I'd planned to leave Mystic Fall's I just so happened to run into a girl who was in need of some assistance" she said as I smiled and shook my head.
'Heeere we go' I thought to myself.
"She was in the middle of fending off a rabid vampire that wanted nothing more than to dilute every last drop of her blood. And though her defensive techniques were great it just wasn't enough as the poor girl began to cave. But at the last second a beautiful hero came along and saved this damsel in distress from the arms of evil" Rebekah finished.
"You know that story gets more dramatic every time I hear it" I chuckled throwing on my black matching underwear, a cream cami top, black skinny jeans and cream flat shoes.
"Well that's the point, story's have to be dramatic otherwise what's the point" she said.
"But I don't get it though. Why would that night stop you from leaving?" I asked coming out the bathroom
"It wasn't just about that night, it was about you" she said looking me straight in the eyes.
Wait what?
"Me? What about me?" I asked really wanting to know what she had meant by that.
"When I saved you that night I saw something in your eyes, something that called to me in a way nothing and none ever has before" she said as there was a paused silence.
"What was it?" I asked.
"Your vulnerability"
Huh?
"It's what drew me in so much, it's why I wanted to protect you. You're without a doubt the bravest, strongest and most caring person I've ever met, but amongst all of that is something else. You may be an independent young woman, but I've been alive long enough to know that eyes are basically like windows to the soul. And what I saw that night and still see now is a frightened child hiding behind a shield of emotions desperately crying out for help" she explained.
After hearing her say this I wasn't sure what to say, what could I say?
"I've been around for centuries and have been able to read people like an open book, but you Ren have a barrier that even I can't get past no matter how hard I try" she said.
"Is that a bad thing?" I asked folding my arms across my chest.
"No, its just fascinating. You're a complete and utter mystery that's unsolvable, and yet I find myself not caring about it because…you're the first real friend I've ever had in my entire life. Ever since my family fell apart I've felt truly alone inside, though I did my best to stay strong and carry on for the sake of my brothers it just seemed like there was an unbearable weight on my chest that stayed with me no matter where I went. With every fight, betrayal and loss that occurred in our lives it became harder and harder to get through another day. Until finally I'd had enough. I was no longer going to allow myself to fantasize about the perfect family, having the perfect love or the perfect life. It was obvious that my brothers and I could never be as we once were before, so one night I wrote a note bidding them goodbye and just left.
Things became a whole lot easier after that, I felt free to do and say anything I wanted without having to worry about anything or anyone. Though there wasn't a day that went by where I didn't think of my brothers and wondered if they missed me as much I did them. After a while I decided to come visit what was once my family home to see what had become of it, and that's when I met you" she said looking at me with softened eyes.
"Rebekah…"
"I know I was distant with you at first because I was afraid of becoming too close only to have myself hurt again, but you gave me your trust and that's something I'll always be grateful to you for" she said smiling.
"And I you" I said smiling back as we then both hugged one another and in that moment a thought came over me. Rebekah Van Helsing wasn't just my best friend, she was the perfect big sister I'd always imagined would come into my life as someone I could always look up to. Which reminds me…
"I forgot to ask what are you planning on doing with Damon?" I asked pulling back to look at her.
"I've already got it handled" she said.
"Really? How so?" I asked really wanting to know.
"Well after I snapped his neck I threw him into the boot of my car and drove to the Lockwood cellar where I tied him up with vervain ropes, staked him in multiple places, and to finish it off I gouged both his eyes out with a knife. After that I got bored and just left him there to rot" she said sounding overly calm about it as if it were her everyday routine.
Ouch ouch and double ouch.
"Mental note, never ever ever get on the wrong side of Rebekah Van Helsing as she will make you wish you were dead" I said.
"Oh that was just me being kind, the real funs still to come" she said with a sinister look in her eyes.
"Wow, I almost feel sorry for the guy" I said sympathetically. "Not!" I burst out with as the two of us laughed.
My phone then rang again but as I went to pick it up I saw that it was my stalker of an ex and just declined the call.
"Leave me alone" I groaned.
"What's wrong?" I heard Rebekah ask.
"Nothing, just that my ex won't take a hint" I said.
"The Lockwood boy?" she asked and I nodded.
"I basically told him after he cheated that I never wanted to see his dead beat self again, but then he had the gall to come over today and try to get me to take him back" I told her.
"And I take it you gave him the cold shoulder" she smirked.
"You bet I did" I said and just then my phone rang again and no guesses as to whom it was. "Grrrrr get lost" I growled declining the call again as I was just seconds away from smashing my phone.
"Want me to deal it?" Rebekah asked and just as she did the phone rang yet again, but this time I answered it out of pure anger.
"TYLER I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DON'T STOP CALLING ME I'LL PERSONALLY HUNT YOU DOWN RIP YOUR MAN HOOD OFF AND FEED IT TO YOU!" I yelled down the phone watching Rebekah sniggering away.
"Even though I would love nothing more than to see that I'm gonna have to take a rain check"
Oh god.
"Aunt Rosalie?" I asked squeezing my eyes shut.
"The one and only" she said.
By that point Rebekah had broke down into a fit of laughter as the embarrassment hit me like a ton of bricks.
"Who's that?" Rosalie asked.
"An ugly looking hyena" and just as I said that Rebekah had grabbed one of my pillows and thrown it at me as I laughed.
"Oook well listen honey do me a favour and make sure you stay safe tonight ok?"
"Sure I will, but is everything alright?" I asked curious to know what the sudden worry was.
"Yeah everything's fine, just keep me posted and don't get into any trouble"
"Yeah yeah I know the drill" I said rolling my eyes.
"I mean it Renesmee, it's a full moon tonight and you know what that means"
I totally did. Full moon equals party night for werewolves, luckily though if I did happen to come across any I could easily defend myself but would have to be very careful that they didn't bite me. Again.
You see two weeks ago I made the mistake of going hunting under a full moon where I got cornered by three wolves. I managed to fight my way out but one of them sneakily crept up on me and bit my arm. Now the bite itself was painful but it wasn't until Aunt Rosalie showed up that something really bad happened.
I remembered my arm began to burn like hell, my body went numb, my heart pounded painfully against my chest, I got the chills, sweated like a dog and before I knew it blacked out. It was awful, the pain was just too much to bare and this is coming from a half vampire human. The next day I woke to find Elijah sitting beside my bed where he'd explained that the werewolf venom had almost killed me, had it not been for the cure he'd given me.
Apparently for a full vampire like Elijah's kind a werewolf bite would take up to three days or less before it killed them because sadly there was no cure, which had me really confused but I'll get to that in a minute. Now Cold One's on the other hand could withstand a werewolf bite, it would be like a simple bee sting to my Aunt Rosalie for example because she was a full venom vampire. But in my case it was a whole other situation. Seeing as I'm half human and half Cold One it would take less than 24 hours for my entire body to shut down because my immune system wasn't strong enough to fight off the venom.
I don't know how he did it but somehow in the hours I spent slowly dying Elijah had managed find a cure for me without breaking a sweat. He wouldn't tell me where and how he had gotten it all he said was that me being alive was what truly mattered most. And for that I was forever in his debt for saving my life.
"I know. Don't worry nothings gonna happen, I promise" I said.
"I can't lose you Renesmee"
"You won't lose me" I said trying to assure her.
"Just don't get home too late and remember to lock the doors and windows ok?"
"Ok"
"I love you"
"I love you too" I said closing my eyes at this before hanging up.
"What was that about?" Rebekah asked.
"She's just worried, she's still not over what happened with the wolves that night. It's made her more over protective then ever" I said. I'd informed Rebekah all about my little encounter with the rabid fur balls and lets just say that by her reaction I actually felt sorry for any wolf that dared to cross paths with her.
"Can't say I blame her, your all Rosalie has in the world. She has a right to be protective of you" Rebekah said.
"I know it's just that…"
"What?" she asked.
"I don't like feeling weak. I don't like feeling as if I'm incapable of fighting my own battles. Its nice to be protected an all but…I wanna be stronger than this, I want to be able to face down anyone or anything that comes at me and not feel scared. Does that sound bad?" I asked her.
"No, no that doesn't sound bad at all" she said shaking her head. "If I'm being honest I was exactly the same when I was human. I always wanted to do manly things like sword fighting and hunting, but my father would never allow it. He always used to say that a mans job was that alone, women were less superior in his eyes" she said.
"Your dad was a dick, no offence" I said as she laughed.
"Trust me the feeling shall forever be mutual" she said before getting serious again. "I do understand where you're coming from though Ren. Just give it time, you will get stronger I guarantee it" she said.
"I hope your right" I sighed.
I really do.
Authors note: Bet you didn't expect Rebekah to be here so soon did you? I'm not gonna tell you why I brought her in yet because its all apart of the story line, so just go with the flow for now all shall be revealed in time.
