Some established relationship fluff for the soul.
It was a relatively quiet Saturday morning in the Mikaelson household.
Elijah was already out doing Caroline-wasn't-really-sure-what, while Rebekah had never come back to the mansion after her date with Stefan the evening before.
Swiftly looking up at the round clock hanging on one of the kitchen's walls, Caroline let her hearing concentrate on Klaus, still taking a shower in their own, private bathroom upstairs.
Oddly enough, she had woken up before him that morning, and decided to surprise him with some breakfast. Not that he needed it, really. He usually preferred more... liquid meals, but still. If Caroline Forbes wanted to bake cookies, then she would bake cookies; and Klaus would eat them and love them, if he knew what was best for him.
She arranged the dough on the tray, smiling as she formed middle-sized hearts with it. Once they looked just the right way, she artfully added the chocolate chips onto them, and then finally put everything in the oven.
She happily clapped her hands to herself, proud of her cooking effort, before hearing a familiar accented voice coming from behind her.
"What are you doing, my love?"
Caroline turned her head to the side, her eyes meeting an amused-looking Klaus smirking at her.
Her heart beat a bit faster at the sight of him with his golden curls still slightly wet, and she wondered if it was ever going to come a day when she wouldn't fall even deeper in love with him at every word he said or look he gave her (yeah, she highly doubted it).
She quickly recovered though, as she had learned to do during all those years spent with him, and her eyes narrowed threateningly.
However, the fire appearing in her blue orbs only made her look even more adorable and endearing to Klaus' eyes.
"I am baking," she answered, rather matter-of-factly, before suddenly pointing the silver spoon in her hand at him, "so stop distracting me."
Klaus chuckled, bringing his hands up in front of him in a defensive manner. "I haven't done anything."
Caroline's eyes squinted even more towards him. "Mmh-uhm, sure."
The hybrid's smirk widened slightly and she huffed, eventually turning her attention back to her task at hand.
Nonetheless, she heard him stealthily approaching her, until he was hovering just behind her, his chest slightly touching her back.
"I see some cookies ready here, though," he tilted his head down towards another tray resting on the counter, over a dozen rectangular cookies invitingly lying upon it.
"Those are not for you," she immediately warned.
"Ah. Who are they for?" he asked, amused.
"Your family, and Stefan."
Klaus slightly shook his head to himself, moving forward until his nose was nuzzling against her blond hair.
He felt her whole body stiffen in front of his, and smirked somewhat mischievously, knowing and relishing the effect that he always had on her.
He sneaked an arm around her waist, bringing her closer, while the other tried to move towards the already finished cookies at their side.
But—
"No!" Caroline chastised, promptly hitting his hand away. "Don't you dare, Klaus. I mean it."
From behind her, he pressed his lips together to avoid laughing, albeit it would have been out of affection and nothing else.
He waited for a few moments, before asking, genuinely curious, "What's different from the other cookies, sweetheart?"
"Yours are heart-shaped," she proudly answered, raising on her tiptoes for a moment as she mentally patted herself on the back for the idea.
Klaus froze, speechless at her admission.
It was such a simple act, but it still held more meaning to him than he would ever be able to convey through words.
Suddenly, the arm he had around her waist tightened, and in less than an instant he had her turned around to face him.
Caroline yelped, her eyes widening in surprise, but her shock was quickly washed away as Klaus' lips crashed down onto hers.
She immediately melted against him, winding her arms around his neck and coaxing him down closer. He gladly did as she asked, deepening the kiss as he pushed his tongue between her lips to explore once again every familiar inch of her glorious mouth.
When he drew back, a few minutes later, she was panting heavily, her lips swollen.
"What was that for?" she asked, breathlessly, her confused eyes darting between his.
"I love you," his simply stated in response.
Her answering smile was radiant, showcasing all the light that she always carried within her.
"I love you, too," she answered, as she always did, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
The second after the words had left her lips, Klaus was kissing her again.
She giggled as he lifted her up onto him, her legs going around his waist as if it was their second nature.
They kept on kissing, all smiles and happiness, as he carefully moved them out of the kitchen and towards the stairs and then up, intent on reaching their bedroom.
Suddenly, Caroline stopped, and a gasp resounded throughout the whole house.
"Wait! I forgot to turn the oven off!"
