Chapter 8
Renesmee's POV
Upon opening my eyes I groaned narrowing my face away from the suns bright rays that shone through the window. Focusing my vision I recognized I was in my bed in my room and frowned at this wondering what the hell had happened last night. I remember talking with Elijah Aunt Rose and Rebekah, then the wolves came and…
I got attacked.
Gasping I leapt out bed to approach my dress mirror expecting to see some nasty evidence left over from being bitten by those damn dogs, but to my surprise I saw nothing. No nasty scars, no teeth marks or burning bloody flesh. Nothing. My neck was fine my arms and legs were good. All was well, I was as healthy as anything.
That meant only one thing, I'd been given the cure. But by whom?
Hearing my Aunt's voice from below I swiftly grabbed my fluffy pink dressing gown seeing as I was in my pajama tank top and shorts and jogged down the stairs.
"Aunt Rose" I called seeing her standing in the living area with Rebekah.
"Renesmee? What are you doing up? You should be resting" she said coming to engulf me in a hug.
"I'm good" I assured her.
"I'm so relieved your okay. You have no idea what was going through my mind last night, I thought for sure I was gonna lose you" Aunt Rosalie sobbed.
"Heeey I'm fine, don't cry" I said trying to bring her some comfort as she then pulled back to look at me.
"How are you feeling?"
"Surprising I feel...sublime, like I'm hyped. But enough about me what about you guys? What happened last night?" I asked releasing Rose to go over and hug Rebekah.
"What do you remember?" Aunt Rosalie asked.
"I recall the wolves attacking, me getting bit and after that it's a blur" I said.
"You got given the cure and the wolves were taken apart" Rebekah said.
"This much I can tell, but given the cure by whom?" I asked them.
"By me love"
Came a voice from behind me as I turned on the spot to see Elijah emerge from the kitchen and beside him was another male with short curled dirty blonde hair. He had the bluest green eyes I'd ever seen, he wore a blood red shirt, a black leather jacket and black jeans. He looked like a predator but a devilish sexy one at that. I somehow got the impression that I'd seen him before, but that was highly impossibly because I doubt I'd forget such an enchanting creature like him.
"W-who are you?" I stuttered mentally kicking myself for sounding like an idiot.
"Ouch, and here I thought my reputation would proceed me from the tales of what both my brother and sister might have told you" he said pretending to sound hurt.
For a minute I questioned what he was talking about, but one foreboding look from Elijah told me everything I needed to know.
Ding! Light bulb!
"Klaus" I gasped.
He smirked, "hello love."
"Y-you? Your Klaus?" I asked raising my eyebrows, unable to believe that I was standing in the presence of the biggest baddest vampire to walk this earth.
"That would be correct" he said.
"Erm, okay. Wow"
Klaus tilted his head, "what?" he asked.
"Nothing, its just that I was half expecting some pale faced Dracula looking guy with long hair and a bit of a limp. But you, your..." I trailed off trying to find the right word.
"I'm what?" Klaus asked.
Spectacular. Perfect. Good looking. Ravishing. Handsome. Smoking...
"Hot" I said but gasped slapping my hand over my mouth realizing I'd blurted that out loud.
Klaus chuckled, "thanks for the compliment love. You're a rare beauty yourself."
'Be still my heart' I thought to myself.
"Thank you for what you did last night, I don't remember much but I do know you saved me life twice now and I'm entirely grateful to you for that. So thank you Mr. Mikaelson" I said.
Klaus shook his head, "non of that now sweetheart, just Klaus will do. And it was my pleasure."
I smiled, "I know you probably already know me by now but what the heck. Hi I'm Renesmee Cullen" I said holding out my hand.
Klaus smiled, "Niklaus Mikaelson love at your service" he said taking my hand feeling a spark shoot between us at the contact causing me to gasp as he placed a tender kiss on the back of my knuckles.
What was this man doing to me?
"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Mi...I mean Klaus" I corrected myself.
Klaus smirked, "the pleasures all mine Anessa."
"Anessa?" I questioned.
"It's Greek for pure of chaste" he said.
Okay if I wasn't blushing like a tomatoe before I certainly was now.
"Don't even think about it buddy, she's sixteen" Aunt Rose butted in.
"Going on seventeen in two days" I exclaimed.
"And still not too old for a spanking" she said.
I rolled my eyes at this. "So any way back to more important matters, what brings you to town? A certain doppelganger perhaps?" I asked Klaus.
He smirked, "that amongst other reasons."
"Like what?" I asked.
"Wrapping up loose ends before the next full moon"
"Uh huh" I said waiting for him to continue.
"Well that's it really"
I scoffed, "excuse me for using such language but bull shit. You did not come all the way to Mystic Fall's just for the damn sacrifice."
"Is that so?" Klaus asked as I nodded, "care to elaborate on that?"
"Certainly. You're here because you're lonely, which is understandable considering that you killed two of your brothers and felt abandoned when Elijah and Rebekah both left you. Now I'm by no means excusing your actions but I know that just by looking into your eyes that you want to be a better person, you proved this much when you saved me twice in a row without a hint of hesitation. You can tell me that I'm wrong but you'd just be lying to yourself" I explained.
He as well as everyone else in the room appeared to have been taken back by my words. I was sure I heard Aunt Rose mutter 'damn that girls nerve' under her breathe.
"Why are you saying these things to me?" Klaus asked with a mixture of emotions in his eyes.
"Because after everything I've been told about you, despite all the bad stuff you've done I find myself wanting to help you. I want you to break your curse" I said.
That said I saw Elijah stare at me as if I'd suddenly lost all rational thinking and maybe so but I had a good feeling my plan would work out in the end, even if we hit a few snags along the way.
"Ren are you sure you're feeling alright? Because for a moment there I actually thought you proposed to assist Niklaus end his curse" Rebekah questioned.
I nodded, "I did."
"Have you bloody well gone mad? You do realize what will happen if he succeeds don't you?" she asked in a scandalized manner.
"He'll be unstoppable I know, but just hear me out for a minute. Non of this would have happened in the first place if Esther would have been honest with your family in the first place about Klaus's true heritage, she lied to him for so long that by the time he found out the truth it was already too late. He was forced to grow up with a man who had the opportunity to act like a father to a boy who may not have been his own by blood but was family non the less. Instead though Mikael abused him and took away Klaus's biological father to spite Esther, and through it all was a little boy stuck in the middle of a war crying out for help but none came to his rescue" I explained feeling myself become overwhelmed as I moved closer to Klaus.
"So you did the only thing you knew best and that was to become the monster they'd made you out to be your entire life, the savage you had been forced to contain because none else understood you. But I'll let you in on a little secret Klaus, I do. I understand what its like to feel out of place, to feel like you don't belong in either category. I know what its like to have to run your whole life constantly looking over your shoulder, afraid to even close yours eyes because you may never see the light of day again. I know what's its like to cherish each day like it's your last .To have friends and to lose them, to have a family that isn't by your side. To want to love and be loved in return for just being you, and to feel life's sweet sensation of freedom. I understand Klaus Mikaelson, I understand you" I spoke with passion feeling a teardrop run down my cheek.
Klaus at this point was gone, regardless of how hard he tried to contain his true emotions there was no fighting it as I watched with a heavy heart as he let the tears fall. Ones filled with anger, hurt, betrayal, loneliness, guilt and even yearning.
I cupped his face, "you don't have to feel alone anymore Klaus. Despite what you think your siblings adore the bones of you and I know you love them just as much, otherwise why would you have let Rebekah go? We all know you're the toughest vampire/werewolf to walk this earth and you could have dragged her back kicking and screaming at any time, yet you didn't. You wanted to cut her loose because it was hurting you to see your own sister spiritually dying inside each day as time slowly passed. Tell me I'm wrong" I said waiting on his answer.
"I…" Klaus started but wandered off struggling with his speech impediment.
"You can't, because you know I'm right. You need them Klaus just as much as they need you. So do everyone here a favor and get off your high horse, drop the Dark Vader act and be the solicitous man your siblings and I know you are. Don't let Esther and Mikael win" I said shaking my head.
Right then as I said this he reached into the inner lining of his jacket pocket and pulled out what resembled two thin knives. He looked at them for a minute as if he was contemplating something before turning the handle parts to me and l stared at him in uncertainty.
"What are they?" I asked.
"Daggers" Rebekah spat sounding pissed.
"I was going to use them on both my siblings when I got here but…plans soon change. These are the only ones I have" Klaus said.
"What would they do?" I questioned.
"The daggers themselves are covered in white oak that as you probably already know is our greatest enemy, so if I placed them in either one of my siblings hearts they'd decay and fall into a deep slumber until the daggers themselves were removed. I want you to have them" Klaus said holding out the daggers to me, which I then carefully took.
I honestly didn't know what to say. I felt honored at the fact that this handsome prince like man was handing me the very things that would keep him from hurting my friends.
"But why me?" I asked.
"The very same reason I spent sixteen years trying to find you, and even centuries before that waiting for you" Klaus said staring at me with soft eyes.
Wait what?
"What do you mean? Why have you been looking for me?" I asked.
"Don't you remember?" Klaus asked.
"Remember what?" I asked feeling my eyebrows knit together.
"That day you found me in the woods a thousand years, the day we first met. I'd gone to my homelands caves only to discover you there waiting for me. You looked around thirteen maybe fourteen years old" he described.
My eyes widened as I recalled that very day. It was back when Aunt Rose and I were still living in New Orleans. Davina and myself had been messing around at the time when we came up with an idea to do a love spell that would seek out who we were destined to be with, but unfortunately we'd gotten the spell wrong so instead of finding our intendeds in the future we'd found them in the past.
Flashback
14 years of age
"You sure this is gonna work?" I asked my friend for what seemed like the tenth time now.
"Trust me it'll be easy as pie" Davina assured me.
'I doubt that' I thought to myself.
After she lit every candle that circled round us Davina then came and sat across from me flipping through her spell book until she found what she was looking for.
Davina grinned, "ready?"
I smiled, "As I'll ever be."
"Take my hands" she said holding out her palms as I did what I was told. "Now remember the spell only lasts five minutes before our minds snap back to our body's, okay?"
I nodded, "five minutes got it."
"Okay now close your eyes and say these words with me" she said.
In this hour on this day
We call upon the spirits to help us we pray
Let us find true love
Let us search through time
Be with me now and let me see what is mine
My significant other I call to thee
Let me find you dear heart wherever you are
As I make this wish so mote it to be
As we continued our chanting I felt a strong wind pick up around us, which meant that the spell was working. I could hear the pages of the book flipping like crazy, until finally the wind seemed to die down and all went quiet.
"Davina did it work?" I asked but strangely got no response.
Slowly reopening my eyes expecting to see my friend, but boy was I wrong. Gone was the graveyard scenery along with Davina and found that I was now sat in some sort of cave.
'Holy crap! It actually worked!' I inwardly squealed whilst grinning like an idiot. Davina I love you. Speaking of my friend where was she? Or for that matter where was I?
I think I was about to find out because just then I heard someone approaching as a flicker of an orange yellow light bounced off the rock walls, and right then I sucked in a breath as a man carrying a flamed torch came into view.
He had shoulder length dirty blonde hair and was quite built in both muscle and stature. He was wearing a blue tunic, a waist belt, a white under shirt, black pants and boots. He looked like a god.
That's when it suddenly occurred to me of why I had come here in the first place. Could it be? Was this man my true love? How did that work though? From the looks of things he was from a way different era than me, so how could he be my intended?
"Who are you?" he asked as his eyes found my own.
"You can see me?" I questioned.
He looked at me as if I was mad. "Of course, your sat right in front of me."
I nodded, "right. Sorry, my names Renesmee."
"Re-nes-mee?" he questioned trying to pronounce my name.
I giggled, "its kind of complicated isn't it?"
He smiled, "just a bit."
"Its okay you can just call me Ren, all my friends do" I said.
He seemed to smile at the friend's part and moved to sit on the floor leaning his back against the wall across from me.
"So what brings you here this night little one?" he asked.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you" I said.
"Does it have anything to do with your strange attire?" he asked gesturing to my outfit.
"Could do but like I said, you wouldn't believe me" I repeated.
"Try me" he challenged.
"Okaaay well...gods how do I say this? Erm, alright well to start off I'll ask you this. Do you believe in the supernatural?" I asked him.
He nodded, "yes I do."
This surprised me, "really?"
"Of course, my village practically lives in fear of things they cannot comprehend" he said.
"Do you fear it?" I asked him.
Please say no please say no.
He shook his head, "only when something means me or my loved ones harm."
I sighed in relief, "well that's good because I wouldn't want to scare you away."
I watched his eyebrows knit together, "how would you do such a thing?"
Come on Renesmee just tell him already.
"Well, I'm not exactly from here" I said rubbing my neck feeling quite awkward at this point.
He looked confused, "what do you mean?"
"This is gonna sound completely insane, but I'm originally from the future. My friend who's a witch did a spell that would allow us both to find our true mates. While my astral self was sent here my actual body still remains in the present, so I'm sort of like a spirit you could say" I chuckled.
"Witch craft? Magic still remains in your time?" he questioned.
"Yes, it very much does. You don't think I'm crazy?" I asked.
He shook his head, "not at all. My mother is in fact a witch herself along with a friend of hers who has been part of our family since before I was born. She taught us all about the good and bad sides of magic, its advantages and its down falls. So yes little one, I believe you."
I smiled, "I'm glad to hear that"
He smiled, " so you are here to find your true love?"
"Yeaaah, the spell was supposed to send me to the very spot I would find them" I said pursing my lips.
"Well here I am, and here you are" he said in teasing like manner as I just nodded allowing him have his fun. "Sooo that means..."
"Yep"
"That I'm your..."
"Uh huh"
"Well..."
"Mm hm"
He chuckled, "this is very..."
"Unusual" I grinned.
"That and utterly unexpected" he said as we both laughed.
"Tell me about it, I mean here I was thinking that I was gonna meet someone in my own time at an age that matched my own and imagine my shock when it turns out that my intended just so happens to live in the past and I'm way too young for him" I said.
He shrugged, "well its not all that bad. At least we know that each other existed, even if we can never be truly together. Its nice to know that there was actually someone out there for me."
I sighed, "fate is so cruel sometimes."
"I know love" he said sympathetically.
"Well even so, I'm thankful I met you" I smiled.
He smiled, "me too. You're a brave young girl Ren, never doubt that."
I smiled feeling myself blush, "thank you."
Then and there I suddenly remembered something.
"I forgot to ask your name"
"Its Ni..."
Before he had time to finish though as quick as a flash I found myself back in my physical body and after that passed out.
End of flashback
"Oh my god, it was you? You were the Viking man I met in the cave" I gasped.
Klaus chuckled, "it would seem so."
"I can't believe it. I can't believe you're actually here" I said with a watery smile.
"Can one of you please explain what's going on? And what it is your talking about?" Aunt Rosalie asked.
I turned to face her, "back in New Orleans Davina and I did a spell that would allow us to see our future mates."
"You did what now?" Aunt Rosalie questioned raising her eyebrows.
"We sort of goofed up though and got the spell twisted. We meant to search for them in the present but instead it took us to the past. And that's how I found Klaus, though I didn't his name then because the spell itself had been time limited and mine had run out before I could find out who he was" I said.
"Are you saying...?" Elijah clocked on.
I nodded, "uh huh."
"Niklaus is your mate?" Rebekah chocked.
"Yep"
"Young lady your grounded" Aunt Rosalie said.
Oh. Come. On.
Author's Note: Well, what do we think? Renesmee meeting past Klaus and discovering they are destined mates?
