This is the second chapter of Hook, it starts off in the house of the Banning family in San Francisco California, Moira notices the magic of the mirror when she finds an amulet on the floor in front of the mirror before she accidentally gets sent straight to never-land through the portal in the mirror prompting her daughter Maggie into calling out Tinkerbell to take her to never-land.
Chapter Two.
Maggie's room.
Four Days on a Friday afternoon.
The room itself was in a little messy state as Maggie had left it in a mess.
As Maggie was just coming back home on the bus and her husband Peter was just picking up his son Jack from his baseball game practice, Moira had the whole house to herself. When Moira had entered the room through the doorway she looked around the room to see what needed to be done. There were some clothes that needed to be picked up and washed and that was as much needed to be done to the room without causing any trouble for her daughter.
So she brought the basket to the bed and then she started gathering up the clothes before putting each of them into the basket.
She gathered up t-shirts and panties as well as trousers and tops, she looked around to see what else she needed to gather when she noticed something flicker in the mirror at the corner.
At first, it didn't seem to be a bother until it flickered again.
Moira had suddenly got curious about the mirror so she placed the basket down on the floor.
Moira then went to approach the mirror. She stopped at a short distance in front of the mirror, Moira found that it was not her reflection in the mirror but something else. Moira was a little frightened at first but she became curious as she stepped up slowly towards the mirror until she was at arm's length from the mirror stand, reaching out her hand. She brought her hand closer to the reflective glass of the mirror that she had almost touched the surface when she heard the doorbell ringing downstairs which drew her attention from the mirror for a few seconds. Turning back to the mirror she saw that the flicker had disappeared.
All that was left was her reflection in the sunlight.
Deciding that it was just an illusion, Moira went over to the basket and picked it up before she went out of Maggie's bedroom. She walked out through the hallway to the stairs, coming down to the bottom to see there was someone at the door. Placing the basket at the side of the stairs she walked up to the door to answer it.
It was the delivery man standing at the door with a package in his hand.
"I have a special delivery for a Mr Jack Banning, its a gift from his grandparents." Moira looked down at the package before she looked up at the delivery man and spoke. "Oh yes, I'm his mother. Mrs Banning."
"If you'll please sign for it, just your signature will be fine." said the delivery man.
"Thank you sir." said Moira who then took the pen from the delivery man.
Looking at the form on the delivery man's clipboard, Moira wrote down her signature before she returned the pen to the delivery man and then she took the package from him whilst the delivery man checked the signature.
Happy with the signature, the delivery man spoke. "Thanks a lot, Mrs Banning, have a nice day."
With that, the delivery man turned away and headed back to his truck whilst Mrs banning closed to door.
Holding the package in her hands, Moira placed the package on the stairs before she took up the basket from the stairway and brought it through to the laundry room where the washing machine stood. As soon as the laundry was in the washing machine, Moira turned it on and left it to run the washing whilst she went to the stairs and brought the package up the stairs and then along to her son Jack's room.
She opened the door and placed it on her son's desk, she looked around to see if there was anything that needed to be done but she didn't want to mess around with her son's things as Jack was coming to an age where he valued his privacy.
Straightening up the bedsheets, Moira was about to do more around Jack's room when she heard something in Maggie's room.
It was like a penny that dropped on the floor in the distance to Moira as she stood up straight and went slowly out of Jack's room to head across the hallway to inspect Maggie's room. Entering through the doorway of her daughter's room she looked around the room to see if anything has dropped from the shelves when suddenly, her eyes had spotted a small pendant that was on the floor. But what was strange was that it was in front of the mirror that stood in the corner.
Moira approached the mirror where the pendant was lying on the floor, leaning down she reached out to pick up the pendant as her curiosity was dancing in her head. When she picked up the pendant and held it in her hand, the mirror's reflective glass suddenly started to glow and shimmer like the waters of a pond. Moira continued to look at the pendant's jewel which also started to glow in her hand when she noticed the wall started to show a glowing light as well, so she turned around.
As her eyes saw the mirror's glass glowing in front of her, Moira became surprised for a few seconds when all of a sudden a shadowed figure had appeared from the other side of the glass. It then passed through and grabbed Moira by the waist.
The figure dragged her in through the glass mirror screaming aloud.
At the same time as Moira's capture, Maggie Banning was just coming in through the front door.
She had just closed the door when she heard the sound of her mother's screams.
Bolting away from the front door which closed up, Maggie dropped her bag on the middle of the stairs as she made her way up the steps to the top, running straight up until she came to her doorway to see her mother disappear in a flash of light through the mirror itself.
"Mom! Mom!" Maggie screamed as she ran towards the mirror and she saw only a glimpse of Neverland for a few seconds before it shimmered back into her reflection, leaving no trace or any way to pass through the mirror.
Upon seeing that it was Neverland, Maggie realized that her mom must have been taken into the same place in the universe that she and her brother were taken to by Captain Hook and his pirates all those years ago. She turned to the closed window at the end.
Maggie went towards it to see if she could find the second star to the right in the skies.
Looking up to the skies and hoping she can see it from her window, Maggie searched for the star and started to think happy thoughts but she then realized that she needed some fairy dust to fly from her house all the way to the Second star into the universe of Neverland.
Seeing this as a dead end with no other-way into Neverland, Maggie found herself collapsing on the floor by the window and she became filled with despair that she couldn't get to neverland in any way possible at least until night time when the stars are out or her Dad Peter banning could get home with her brother. She brought her knees up, wrapping her arms around as she looked up to the ceiling she started to wish for some way to get to neverland or at least to call upon Tinkerbell so that she can fly to Neverland.
In the islands of Neverland.
On the other side of the glass portal which then closed after the figure and Moira had passed through the mirror itself, she found herself in a large room and she was surrounded by a band of at least six strangers dressed as pirates who were holding weapons upon her.
Moira was scared out of her mind as the pirates looked at her with lust in their eyes.
She then screamed out for help as one of them grabbed hold of her, the pirate was about to pick her up and throw her down on the ground when all of a sudden there was a large bang came from a door at the front.
After a few seconds, there were a group of men dressed up as soldiers who came barging in through the doorway, one of the pirates drew a pistol to shoot one of them when Moira pushed the man's arm up with the pistol going off.
The soldiers fired each of their rifle shots into the pirates killing the few before they stormed and surrounded the rest, the pistol-wielding pirate shoved Moira away from him when he received a bayonet in the chest from one of the soldiers who charged in on him. Seeing her only chance to escape, Moira ran up to the mirror and placed both of her hands on the glass.
She looked at her hands to find that she couldn't pass through and to her horror, the amulet wasn't glowing as it did when she was back in San Francisco.
Turning around she found herself surrounded once again only this time they were men dressed in some sort of 17th-century uniforms.
At first, she thought they were people dressed in renaissance costumes but when she saw the dead pirate lying on the floor bleeding out, she realized that she had no clue of where she was and she knew that she had to escape.
Turning her head to see the open doorway to the outside, she tried to make a run for it.
But two of the soldiers had grabbed hold of her by the arms as she tried to run.
"Hold yourself, woman, you're safe with us now. Those pirates won't bother you anymore." One of the soldiers spoke in an English accent as they tried to stop her from running when he stopped to see her modern clothes.
"Miss, stop trying to run or you will get hurt."
"Let me go now you mongrels. I just want to get out of this horrible room..." Moira said to the soldiers holding her.
"Not until you stop and answer the questions. And watch how you speak your tone to a soldier of his majesty's Royal navy." said one of the soldiers in the group who was clearly an officer of the group. The two soldiers turned Moira around to face the officer until she stopped her thrashing to look at the officer in charge.
"What, the Royal navy?" asked Moira.
"That is right Miss, you stand in the company of Commodore Charles Corven of his majesty's Royal British Navy. And whom might I ask are you?" asked the officer.
Seeing the soldiers standing at both sides of the officer speaking to her, Moira found that she had no choice but to stop her thrashing and then answer the officer's questions as she looked at him, watching for him to raise his hand to strike her.
"My name is Moira Banning, my husband is a lawyer from San Francisco." Moira answered which bewildered the soldiers leaving them confused as if they never heard from it. The officer spoke again. "You do realise Mistress Banning that the penalty of lying to an officer of the British navy is a flogging of twenty lashes, now tell me where you are really from?"
"I already told you where I'm from, I am not lying to you please."
"Miss unless you wish to be strapped to a pole and flogged by my own whip, you better give me a correct answer as to where have you come from?"
Realizing that these soldiers have not a clue of where she came from, Moira had to think quickly about her choice of words as she could see the officer becoming much angrier that his face had forced her to scream out her answer.
"Stop, I'm from the Americas Sir! I'm telling you, please. Don't hurt me, I'm from the Americas sir I am from a town in America and I'm not lying to you sir."
Upon hearing that she was some sort of settler from the colonies in the Americas, the officer's anger had suddenly diminished from his face as he turned to his soldiers before he turned back to the prisoner and he spoke. "Release this woman."
The soldiers loosened their grip on Moira who went down on her knees, dropping the amulet on the floor. The officer of the military soldiers saw the amulet on the floor before he picked it up from the floor, Moira rubbed her arms scared of the officer.
Looking around at the faces, she spoke. "What is this place and who are you people?"
Standing on the spot whilst looking upon the necklace in his own hand the officer recognized it as the amulet belonging to the Commodore, Charles Corven himself. Seeing this woman who was a stranger wearing such strange clothes for a woman that came upon the amulet all of a sudden, the officer spoke out to Moira.
"Mistress Banning my name is Lieutenant Austen, I'm an officer of the Royal Navy under the command of Commodore Charles Corven. This house that you are in is in the fortified harbour known as Fort Fairfax, it is named by Commodore Corven in honour of his hero, the famous commander Sir Thomas Fairfax."
"Thomas Fairfax?" Moira replied in shock at the name as she tried to rationalize where she was.
"Now will you tell me where did you get this amulet?" the officer asked, showing the necklace to Moira.
"It was something I found on the floor." Moira replied to the Lieutenant's question as she opened her hand.
"Oh and did you steal this amulet?" asked Lieutenant Austen.
"No I didn't steal it or anything at all in this place." Moira replied to the Lieutenant.
Standing in thought for a moment whilst she stood herself up on her feet, the lieutenant then spoke to Moira.
"Perhaps a few days in the brig on board our ship without any water might maybe loosen that tongue of yours. By then we'll finally gain some truth in this." The lieutenant looked to his soldiers having decided on the resolution for the foreign woman in front of him.
Moira stood in horror as she looked at Lieutenant Austen who was sending her to a dungeon for telling the truth.
Lieutenant Austen nodded for his two troops to take hold of her again before they escorted her out through the doorway, she continued to protest that she didn't steal the necklace as she was being dragged out through the doorway whilst Lieutenant turned to the rest of his troops.
He instructed them to vacate the house and get back to the barracks for duty. Once she stepped out of the house, Moira was surprised to see that she was on some sort of 18th Century grounds. As the rest of the troops were marching out through the doorway dragging the bodies of the pirates out of the house, Lieutenant Austen stood in the house in thought again as he looked down upon the amulet in his hand.
Deciding that he'll have to report the subject to Commodore Corven Lieutenant Austen placed the amulet in his side pocket before he walked out of the house.
Without any time to look around the whole town itself, Moira was brought across the streets of the harbour to the pier where a ship was standing with her two captives on each side, marching her towards the ship as she was beginning to understand that she wasn't in San Francisco anymore or the very least the 20th century either.
The two soldiers escorting Moira brought her across the pier to the gangplank, forcing her to cross over to the other end to board a large warship that was clearly a 17th-century military ship of the British Royal Navy. As soon as she was on board, she was escorted down below the ship where she was to be locked up in one of the brig cages until she gets released on the captain's orders for a hearing or so on.
Back in Maggie's room.
it was almost 5 pm in the evening, Maggie was sitting still in her hunched upstate as she looked at the mirror and she prayed for Tinkerbell to come forth and provide her with some fairy dust so that she can fly off to Never Neverland and rescue her mother.
It was over an hour or so as she prayed with all of her heart, although she was only 12 years old she still prayed for Tinkerbell or at least any fairies that might come to her aid so that she can save her mother from whoever took her away from her home kidnapping her in the process.
And then she heard a knock on the window, Maggie looked up at the window.
Maggie almost felt relieved with hearing the knock on the window, hoping to see if it was Tinkerbell or if there was a fairy standing outside on the window balcony. Standing herself up she approached the window to see there was a boy around her age outside the window.
She walked forward to open the window to find out who it was? Is it a little fairy boy outside?
Maggie wondered as she opened it wide, but then she found that the boy was not there.
It was so strange to Maggie as she knew that she heard the knock on her window.
She looked about the outside as she spoke. "Hello? is anyone here?"
Maggie looked to the right side and turned to the left side when a light flew right past the back of her head and stopped in mid aid. It then spoke. "Maggie?"
The voice had caused Maggie to jump before she turned to see the light dim down into a little person with wings. Realizing that it was the fairy she knew from her childhood stories, Maggie breathed a little easy before she spoke to the fairy. "Tinkerbell? Is it really you?"
It was within a few seconds, that the fairy spun around before she suddenly grew into a big fairy.
Once she was standing on the floor in front of Maggie, she spoke to her.
"Of course it is me, Maggie, you were praying for me to come to you for hours so I flew out here to see what was wrong? Is peter sick or has he called for me?"
Closing the window in front of her and pulling the curtains together to cover the windows, Maggie then turned herself to face the fully grown fairy and approached her. Breathing a sigh she explained to the worried Tinkerbell the reason that she called her to the house.
"Actually no Tinkerbell, my dad is not sick. I called you here because I am in need of some pixie dust."
"Oh thank goodness, that he's well. So do you wish to return to neverland?" Tinkerbell asked approaching Maggie who then replied.
"Yes, I do but its to save my mother. A shadow figure had grabbed her and pulled her in through this mirror when I came into the room. I think she might have been taken to Neverland." Maggie explained what happened to her mother to Tinkerbell who listened to her but she was in disbelief on hearing that someone had crossed into Neverland through a mirror so she looked at the mirror.
She then looked back to Maggie as she spoke.
"That's impossible Maggie. I mean, I know that the only way to get to neverland is to fly to the Second star to the right and straight on till morning."
"Yes that's what I thought too for years until today, I saw my mom go through as if magic had created a portal through the mirror," Maggie explained.
"Oh my. Then it was a sort of magic that must have come from Neverland itself, there's no magic here that would open a portal into Neverland. Unless your mom found something that was actually from there." Tinkerbell explained, kneeling down on one knee so that she can look and speak to Maggie at her level.
"So that is why I need your help, I wish to return to Neverland so that I can save my mom and bring her back home before my dad and brother comes home." Maggie stated her intentions to Tinkerbell who was a little disappointed to not get to see Peter again.
"It is a shame that you just want to return to Neverland just to bring your mom back, I thought that you'd want to go back to have some fun and play games, maybe see what Neverland has to offer." Tinkerbell lamented to Maggie.
"Tinkerbell, all I want is to make sure that my mom is safe.
If it's not much trouble for you then I would appreciate your help cos my dad spoke of you meaning more to him than anything else in Neverland and he still believes in fairies as I do. Are you truly the magical fairy that once loved my dad Tinker bell? I mean my faith in you hasn't changed even though four years have passed on. I ask you to help me Tink, can you do this? If you ever had a daughter of your own what would she look like?"
Maggie spoke to Tinkerbell who looked at her pleading eyes.
Seeing the faith in Maggie's eyes and that what she was asking was out of pure love and hope, Tinkerbell breathed a sigh before she spoke.
"I'm not sure if it will be an easy task. If your mother had crossed into the world of Neverland then she might have landed in a fortified town in Neverland called Fort Fairfax."
"Fort: Fairfax?" asked Maggie
"Yes, so if you want to go to neverland the time would have to be now." said Tinkerbell.
"You're right but if you give me five minutes, I want to leave a note for Jack and Dad encase they come back and see us gone." Maggie said before she went to the bed and picked up her notebook from her draws, she started writing down her note to her father.
Once she was finished with her note she tore it out and went downstairs to head into the lounge and she left it on the table so that Jack or her dad can find it.
Afterwards, she went back upstairs to see that the closed window was open again and that Tinkerbell had shrunk back to her tiny fairy self as she waited for Maggie to return to the room.
As soon as she was ready, Tinkerbell flew over to Maggie spreading her fairy dust upon her head.
Closing her eyes, Maggie started to concentrate on the happiest of thoughts in her mind and then when she opened them, she found herself floating off the floor.
"Oh my Tinkerbell look, I'm floating." Maggie said in excitement.
"Well, you are flying of course if you can remember," Tinkerbell said with a small grin at Maggie who replied. "I could never forget such a feeling it is to fly."
"Then let us fly off to neverland, follow me Maggie and all will be well." Tinkerbell said before she and Maggie started to fly out the window and into the air.
As she was flying off with the sun setting down, a car was just coming into the front driveway when it stopped, Peter stepped out of the car to look up and see that his daughter Maggie was flying in the air leaving him realizing that Tinkerbell must have returned to take her to Neverland, even Jack couldn't believe his eyes as he stepped out of the car to look up in the skies seeing his sister fly off.
He ran straight into the front door to get a look from the bedroom window.
As Maggie and the fairy were flying in the air, Maggie swayed herself close to the fairy as she flew.
Once she was close enough she asked her a question aloud.
"Tinkerbell can I ask where is this town called, Fort Fairfax?"
"Its on a western part of the Neverland Island where a few British warships had established a small colony town to build a new life in.
I haven't gone there so I don't know what it's like but there were some who spoke of it because their captain and his crew were fighting a war against another band of Pirates who were residing at the caves of Skull Rock.
That has been going on for years even before you were born and during the time of your captivity in Neverland." Tinkerbell explained the story of Fort Fairfax.
As the two flew straight onto the second star to the right, Maggie had listened to the story.
Tinkerbell continued to speak about what she knew about Fort Fairfax to Maggie as they were flying across the air for what almost looked like an hour before they were finally getting close to the portal into Neverland. And then they had crossed over into Neverland which was as Maggie had remembered it when she flew all the way home to London.
That's the end of Chapter two for the time being as Maggie makes her way to Neverland with Tinkerbell the fairy as her guide into the universe of Neverland where time never seems to pass on.
Stay tuned to chapter three where Maggie flies across the skies of Neverland whilst those on the ground watched her fly straight towards the town of Fort Fairfax where she will meet the mysterious Commodore Corven.
