Chapter Twenty-Seven: Schools Back

Over the six-day week before the New Year. Jack was able to get Aster to ice skate on The Black Lake. Aster was also seen nearly everyday with his new jacket and North let slip that Snape's Christmas presents of the glass ornaments were from Jack. But after New Years. The Gryffindor Tower became crowded and noisy again. Jack saw Wood go talk to Harry the day before classes. Later when he came past Jack, Wood was muttering "A Firebolt… a real Firebolt" over and over.

Lessons started again next day. The last thing anyone felt like doing was spending two hours in the grounds on a raw January morning, well all but Jack. But Hagrid had provided a bonfire full of salamanders for the others enjoyment, and they spent an unusually good lesson collecting dry wood and leaves to keep the fire blazing, while the flame-loving lizards scampered up and down the crumbling, white-hot logs. The first Muggle Studies lesson of the new term was interesting to say at least. With the stories both from Mother Goose and the The Tales of Beedle the Bard stories.

Ravenclaw played Slytherin a week after the start of term. Slytherin won, though narrowly, According to Wood, this was good news for Gryffindor, who would take second place if they beat Ravenclaw too. He therefore increased the number of team practices to five a week. The first practice after the Christmas holidays was when the team found out about The Weasley Twins Christmas present.

New Broomsticks! Fred and George had the biggest smiles on their faces as they walked out with brand new brooms. The brooms looked halfway between Jack's Staff and a Firebolt, the handle of the broom was made from a Northern Oak and looked like the handle on Jack's staff, the twigs were made from Australian Tumbleweed and Maple with a touch of moonlight, the metal feet rest were made from US Olympic Gold. The Firebolt had golden registration numbers but these brooms had glowing silver blue registration numbers.

"What Brooms are they?" asked Oliver Wood "I've never seen those Brooms before!"

"That's because we are…"started George.

"The proud owners of the first two…" Fred continued.

"Wind Riders!" They finished together.

"We got them for Christmas…" Fred continued with a shrug of his shoulders.

"From the Designer himself, before you ask." Finished George.

"Your friends with a Broom Designer?" Wood almost shouted with surprise.

"Well we guess we are. But we didn't know who gave them to us…" George said with a shrug.

"Until we got a present and a Thank you letter from his brother Sandy." Fred finished smiling at Jack.

"He gave you Dream-Catchers didn't he?" Jack asked with an eye roll. "Bunny and North are inventors of two totally different things," Toys and Chocolate thought The Prince of Mischief, "I've help them a few times with new designs it's fun designing new things."

"Let's see how they go in a game then. Shall we?" Wood said with a wicked smile.

It was bugging Aster immensity, time was being played with, by he worked out with a Time-Turner, and he could almost fell the strain of the user.

"Hey Bunny?" Jack asked from his place on the floor as he studied in the Hufflepuff Common Room. "You said to tell you if we see someone who is straining themselves to the max right?"

"Yer why did ya find someone?"

"Hermione." Jack said looking up to his older brother on the couch behind him. "She hasn't missed a class yet, and she has two other classes the same time as Muggle Studies with me."

"And this has been going on since the start of the school year?" Aster asked, Jack nodded. "Why are you just telling me now! You know what my family studied and what we lived for!"

"Well forgive me for making sure I was right before, I told you Aster!" Jack said. Aster blinked, as his younger brother had he called him 'Aster' normally it was 'Bunny'.

"You alright?"

"Oh… sorry Bunny, No I'm worried about Buckbeak." Jack said, "Funny thing is I just became friends with the Dragon."

"Dragon… oh Draco. Wait you become friends with Draco? When?"

"Yes, yes and before the holidays."

"Well I have a funny feeling it's all going to work out in the end." Aster said as he leaned over to mess up Jack's hair even more.

January faded imperceptibly into February, with no change in the cold weather, winter was holding on with both hands and not letting go. The Gryffindor Vs. Ravenclaw match was drawing nearer and nearer, Harry had not gotten his broom back yet and Wood was close to telling him to just use the Sky Gem. But they didn't need to worry because on the fifth week of the new school term, because McGonagall handed Harry the Fireblot back on his way to the common room after his lesson with Professor Lupin.

Jack was making his way down to his house's common room after talking to a Ravenclaw he made friends with. All he needed now was for Draco to let him in the Slytherin Common Room than he had been in all four. When he came across Neville Longbottom with Harry and Ron before Sir Cadogan.

"I've lost the passwords!" Neville was telling Ron and Harry miserably. "I made him tell me what passwords he was going to use this week, because he keeps changing them, and now I don't know what I've done with them!"

"Hope the wrong person doesn't find them," said Jack coming up behind them. "Oh and Oddsbodikins, by the way Phil might be replacing you soon." he added to Sir Cadogan, who looked extremely disappointed and reluctantly swung forwards to let them into the common room.

"Who's Phil?" Neville asked Jack just before Harry was surrounded by people exclaiming over his Firebolt.

"A Yeti." Jack replied before heading to where the Twins were with Lee.

The four of them watched, as the Firebolt was passed around and admired from every angle for ten minutes.

"Should we bring out our brooms too?" Fred asked George who shrugged. Jack found it quite easy to tell them apart by one simple thing; Fred has a smaller, rounder face and George has a straighter, longer one.

"Don't. Less people know the better," said Jack as he laying down on the headrest of the couch the two Weasley's twins was sharing.

"Comfortable?" Asked Lee looking up from the game of Solitaire.

"Plenty I could sleep here," Jack said closing his eyes, just before a strangled yell echoed down the boys' staircase. "Or maybe not!" Jack said sitting up as the whole common room fell silent, staring petrified, at the entrance of the boy's staircase. There came hurried footsteps, growing louder and louder –and then, Ron came leaping into view, dragging with him a bed sheet.

"LOOK!" he bellowed, striding over to Hermione's table. "LOOK!" he yelled, shaking the sheets in her face.

"SCABBERS! LOOK! SCABBERS!"

Hermione was leaning way from Ron, looking utterly bewildered. Harry looked down at the sheet Ron was holding, Jack caught the look of dread and understanding on his face.

"BLOOD!" Ron yelled into the stunned silence. "HE'S GONE! AND YOU KNOW WHAT WAS ON THE FLOOR?"

"N-no," said Hermione, in a trembling voice.

Ron threw something down onto Hermione's Rune translation. Hermione and Harry lent forward.

Jack slipped his wand from his sleeve, a trick he saw Professor Snape doing a few time and thought it was cool to learn. "Accio," he whispered a few of the objects that Harry and Hermione were looking at flew to Jack's hand. Jack raised an eyebrow at the long, ginger cat hairs in his hand. Slipping his wand back into his sleeve, he took one of the hairs between his thumb and forefinger and put it up to the light.

"Straight edge," he mumbled, "it's been cut." He blew the hair away. Jack jumped up to the rafters after a "Be back in a bit," to Fred, George and Lee.

Jack came back down after the Common room had gone back to the hustle and bustle it was before hand. He turned to the twins with a very serious look on his face.

"Look out for your brother."

"What's wrong?" George asked.

"The rat left alone it was a set up."
