Chapter Twenty- Eight: Gryffindor Versus Ravenclaw.
The last Quidditch practice before the Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw was one of the best practices the Gryffindors have had with both the Firebolt and Wind Riders in play. Harry only took ten seconds to catch the Snitch, and Jack showed how he didn't hit anyone in the last game, as he blindfolded himself and got all five goals past Wood. When asked how he was able to do that. Jack replied that he could feel how the air moves around objects. To the size of the object and how the air moves around it he knows what they are.
"Over time the Twins will be able to feel it as well, as their magic core is now connected to their Wind Riders. It's what I designed them to do."
Wood didn't have a single criticism to make on the practice, which, as George Weasley pointed out, was a first.
"I can't see what's going to stop us tomorrow!" said Wood. "Not unless –Harry, you've sorted your Dementor problem, haven't you?"
"Yeah" said Harry, "Wait what about Jack?"
"Don't worry about that, I can already cast a Patronus," Jack said with a shrug "and my brothers and I have figured out how before they get close enough to effect me."
"The Dementor won't turn up again, Oliver, Dumbledore'd do his nut," said Fred confidently.
"Or Tooth" added George.
"Since when do you call her Tooth?" asked Jack. "Wait… don't answer that."
"Well, let's hope not," said Wood ignoring Jack for now. "Anyway –good work, everyone. Let's get back to the Tower- turn in early…"
"I'm staying out for a bit, Ron wants a go on the Firebolt" Harry told Wood. Jack looked up to Tooth who was watching them today as well was Ron and Madam Hooch. Jack let the wind carry the conversation between Oliver and Harry to her. She gave a nod. Knowing what Jack was worrying about. Jack gave a sigh of relief knowing she watch Ron and Harry and left with the rest of the team to the changing rooms.
Breakfast the next morning made Aster and Jack almost believe that Harry like attention and fame, as he was shore lapping it up when he brought his Firebolt to breakfast.
"You'd think he loves it, wouldn't you?" Jack asked the Twins and Lee
"You would think," said Fred.
"We're not the only ones who think that," said George. "Look at Snape."
Jack looked up to the head table and Snape wasn't the only one with the look of disappointment. North and Toothiana were also looked on with disappointment.
"Just as I thought I was getting some where too. Dammit. One step forward two back." Jack mumbled.
"What?" asked Fred and George.
"Nothing just one of the projects I'm working on," Jack replied. "Great here comes trouble."
Fred, George and Lee looked up. To see that Draco Malfoy had arrived for a closer look, Crabble and Goyle right behind him.
"Sure you can manage that broom, Potter?" Draco asked in his cold, drawling voice.
"Yeah, reckon so," said Harry casually.
"Got plenty of special features, hasn't it?" said Malfoy, eyes glittering maliciously. "Shame it doesn't come with a parachute –in case you get too near a Dementor."
Crabble and Groyle sniggered.
"Pity you can't attach an extra arm to yours Malfoy," said Harry. "Then it could catch the Snitch for you."
The Gryffindors that were sitting around Harry laughed loudly. Malfoy's pale eyes narrowed, and he stalked away. They watched him re-join the rest of the Slytherin team, who put their heads together.
"A Dragon doesn't give up that easily, neither dose a Slytherin. They're planning something." Jack said.
"Your right," said the twins together.
At a quarter to eleven, the Gryffindor team set off for the changing rooms. The weather couldn't be more different from their match against Hufflepuff. It was clear, cool day, with a very light breeze; there would be no visibility problems this time. They could hear the rest of the school moving into the stadium beyond. Jack caught Harry removing his wand from his pockets, and stuck it inside the t-shirt he was going to wear under his Quidditch robes.
"Aster? What are you doing here?" One of the girl's voices could be heard.
"Sorry, but I have something for Jack that I finished last night for the game." Aster's Australian accent could be heard.
"Over here Bunny." Jack called.
Aster made his way over, and gave Jack a wand holster. It was made from leather that had blue and silver frost patterns embroidered into it.
"Sweet, thanks Bunny."
"Oh before I forget, I made this one too." Aster said handing Jack another wand holster. Only this one was stained emerald green. "I don't think you'll be the only one needing one." Aster gave Jack a light cuff around his head and left. Jack rolled his eyes and made his way over to Harry.
"Here this might be easier, then having your wand down your shirt." Jack said giving Harry the emerald wand holster, with a smile.
"You know what we've got to do," said Wood, as they prepared to leave the change rooms. Both Harry and Jack had their holsters on their calf so the robe could hide them. But Jack wished he could have his on his forearm. "If we lose this match, we're out of the running. Just –just fly like you did in practice yesterday, and we'll be OK!"
They walked out onto the pitch to tumultuous applause. The Ravenclaw team, dressed in blue, were already standing in the middle of the pitch. Their Seeker, Cho Chang, was the only girl in their team. She was shorter than Harry by about a head.
"Wood, Davies, shake hands," Madam Hooch said briskly, and Wood shook hands with the Ravenclaw captain. "Mount your brooms… on my whistle… three –two –one –"
"They're off, and this is a very thrilling game as there are not one but three new brooms out there today and all on the same team." Lee Jordan was doing the commentary as per normal. "See Harry Potter might have a Firebolt. But Fred and George Weasley also got new brooms for Christmas. Being friends with the designer of newest brooms the Wind Riders. The designer is Gryffindor's very own Jack Frost."
"Jordan, would you mind telling us what's going on in the match?" Interrupted Professor McGonagall's voice.
"Right you are Professor- just giving a bit of background information. The Wind Riders and the Sky Gems were inspired how Jack himself rides the wind, so they both connect to a witch's or Wizard's magical core –"
"Jordan."
"Ok, Ok. Gryffindor's Jack Frost in possession, heading for goal…"
Jack was laughing as Harry past him going the other way Cho Chang right on his tale. Both not knowing that the Snitch, was following one of the Bludgers going after a Ravenclaw Chaser at the moment. The goal was an easy one. Anything in this game was easer then the the Gryffindor Vs. Hufflepuff one. Jack noticed the two Seekers chasing after the Snitch. Before a Bludger made them veer of course.
There was a great "Oooooh" of disappointment from the Gryffindor supporters, but much applause for the Beater from the Ravenclaw end. George Weasley vented his feelings by hitting the second Bludger directly at the offending Beater, who was forced to roll right over in mid-air to avoid it.
"Gryffindor lead by eighty points to zero, and look at all three new brooms go! Potter is really putting it through its paces now. And the Wind Riders are acting on the twins ever thought. The only one that can keep up is Frost and that's exactly what he designed them to do –"
"JORDAN! ARE YOU BEING PAID TO ADVERTISE THE BROOMS? GET ON WITH THE COMMENTARY!"
"The designer is my friend, and he ask me to do this."
Jack's laughter could be heard after that comment.
Ravenclaw were pulling back; they had now scored three goals, which put Gryffindor only fifty points ahead.
"JACK!" Oliver Wood yelled form his post at the goals.
Jack nodded back. 'Show time.' He thought.
Jack had the Quaffle in game now, heading to the goals. Before it looked like the Quaffle was taken by one of the Ravenclaw. Jack dropped more of a dive but every one could see he didn't have the Quaffle in his hands. But what really got every one neither did the Ravenclaw
"Wait, where's the Quaffle?" Lee's voice was heard making even the two seekers stop and look over. Jack and Harry's eyes meet. Jack nodded to the sky, the message; 'I know what I'm doing, keep looking.'
While everyone was looking the Quaffle, Jack got closer to the goals. Aster and Sandy saw the movement towards the goal.
"What's he got planed?" Aster asked.
Jack gave a piercing loud whistle. This made everyone bring there at attention to him. Jack was hovering there, his staff in one hand. Looking like he was just standing on air. It looked like he just jumped into the air and stayed there. But what got everyone was the Quaffle was sitting between his feet.
Jack gave one of his cheeky smiles and flicked the Quaffle up and used it as a (football) soccer ball. On the knee, then flicking his leg around it was back on his foot. Onto the top his head. Then back on his knee. He flicked just above is head then flicked himself in to a backflip and kicking the Quaffle behind him strait into the goals. The Ravenclaw goalkeeper was looking too much like a gold fish to stop the Quaffle from going in.
"… Where did that come from? Jack Frost with an amazing goal! I don't think I have ever seen a goal like that. Have you Professor? –Hm seeing you look like the Ravenclaw goalie I'm taking that as a no."
"That was an interesting way to score." Sanpe said to North.
"It was a distraction." Toothiana said hearing what he said. "Everyone stopped to look for the Quaffle that Jack had in-between his feet the whole time, and then again when he did something the others could not. Even the Ravenclaw Seeker stopped what she was doing.
"The Ravenclaws do the same thing with their female Seeker distracting the male Seekers with help from the Beaters –sometimes. And she just plucks the Snitch from right under their nose. Jack distracted everyone now Harry is about to take the Snitch."
"Oh and it looks like Harry is after the Snitch" Lee seemed to confirm what Toothiana was saying.
Jack smiled as he felt more then saw Cho race after Harry. But his smile soon disappeared as he felt the air being disturbed at the ground of the pitch. There were people gasping and pointing down. Jack saw Harry look down, Jack new who they were but not what they were dressed as. So Jack looked.
Three Dementors, three tall, black, hooded Dementors, were looking up at Jack and Harry.
Jack rolled his eyes and he dropped. Letting the wind drop him as he heard at "Expecto Patonum!" from Harry. Jack followed the Patronus it was strong, it almost had a form but not quite. The 'Dementors' fell back with a cry of panic when the Patronus hit. Jack swung his staff letting ice and snow to keep the wannabe pranksters exactly were they were.
Madam Hooch's whistle sounded. Jack looked up to see Harry get swarmed by the rest of the team. Well he thought it was the rest of the team until he was tackled from behind. "We won!" George Weasley's voice was close to yelling in Jacks ear! Jack laughed before he and George went to join the others. Jack laughed even harder when he saw that the girls had kissed Harry, and Fred had Harry in a grip similar to what George had Jack in before.
In complete disarray, the team did manage to make its way to the ground. Only to be swarmed by a gaggle of Gryffindor supporters.
"Yes!" Ron yelled, yanking Harry's arm into the air. "Yes! Yes!"
"Well done, Harry!" said Percy, looking delighted. "Ten Galleons to me! Must find Penelope, excuse me –"
Jack looked at the twins. "What did we miss, this morning when he came over?"
"Don't know –" said one, Jack really didn't care he asked both.
"Don't care all that matter is –" said the other.
"We Won!" They said together.
"Good on you, Harry!" roared Seamus Finnigan.
"Football tricks in the air? Were do you learn to do that, Jack?" Dean Thomas asked.
"Ruddy brilliant! N'ver seen a game like this!" boomed Hagrid over the heads of the milling Gryffendors.
"That was quite some Patronus," said a voice between Harry and Jack.
Jack nodded. "It was almost a Corporeal Patronus." Jack said as he and Harry turned to see Professor Lupin, who looked both shaken and pleased.
"The Dementors didn't affect me at all!" Harry said excitedly. "I didn't feel a thing!"
Jack couldn't help it he laughed. "Sorry –but they –ha –not real."
"What?"
"Come on I'll show you."
Jack led Harry out of the crowd the twins and Lupin following, until they were able to see the pitch.
"Jack is telling the truth," said Lupin. "You gave Mr Malfoy quite a fight."
Harry stared, the twins laughing. Lying in a crumpled heap on the ground, covered in snow were Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle and Marcus Flint, the Slytherin team captain, all struggling to remove themselves from long, black hooded robes. It looked as though Malfoy had been standing on Goyle's shoulders. Standing over them, with expression of utmost fury on their face were Professors McGonagall and Toothiana.
"An unworthy trick!" Professor McGonagall was shouting. "A low and cowardly attempt to sabotage Gryffindor!"
"Detention for all of you with me and dose fifty points from Slytherin sound fair Professor McGonagall?"
"Yes it dose and I shall be speaking to Professor Dumbledore about this, make no mistake! Ah, here he comes now!"
"To be fair, I knew they were up to something," said Jack with a shrug.
"We don't care."
"This still sets the seal-"
"On Gryffindor's victory!" The twins said.
Ron, Sandy and Aster made had made it to their side and doubled up with laughter. As they watched Malfoy fighting to extricate himself from the robe, Goyle's head still stuck inside it.
"Come on," said George, fighting his own laughter. "Party! Gryffindor common room, now!"
Jack laughed running after Fred, Harry followed soon after feeling happier than he had in ages. The Gryffindor's team led the way, still in their scarlet robes, out of the stadium and back up to the castle.
