Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
Chapter 132
Author's Note: More people are finding this story! YAY! Here I was worried about that I was going to catch up to the current season soon. Not even close! LOL. I'm dvrring tonight's episode and watching it tomorrow after work. Anyway please review.
Mar and Sasha's POV:
Mar took a breath as she lowered her handkerchief from her mouth coughing. She took a breath and threw the handkerchief to the other side of the room.
Sasha leaned against the cell door. "You got it too?"
Mar looked at her. "You should be resting, come sit down. I'm doing alright, fever's not as bad as some."
Sasha sat down on the cot. "How's Mitch doing? I know Glenn is keeping him company."
"His fever's not as bad as others, neither is Lizzie's. Hoping it continues that way. Dr. S is getting worse, and some of the kids from Ronnie's group. If anyone dies, I'm going to have to put them down," Mar said.
Sasha nodded. "You think Daryl and the others will back in time?" she asked as she coughed.
"Hope so," Mar answered. "Jewel would know exactly how to calm everyone, know exactly how to keep people looking on the bright side. She always amazed me in any emergency situation, the way she took control. I always told her she should have stayed as an emergency room nurse, but the hours, with Summer, she decided to do something else."
"Hey you're doing fine, Mar. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, because we all have strengths that others don't possess. You're here, and you're doing fine," Sasha assured the other woman.
Mar shook her head. "No I'm not Sasha. I keep looking at the door and wondering whose going to be next."
"You know what I see? You volunteered to be in here so Jewel wouldn't have to be. Not a lot of people would do that. You may not have the same skill set as Jewel, but you have your own unique set of skills. You are still helping, you are running yourself ragged checking on everyone. Now you're coming down with this. You don't get to doubt yourself, not now," Sasha informed her. "You can be scared, I'm scared, I think we all are. You aren't in this alone, I'm going to be helping until I can't anymore," Sasha assured her.
"You're going to be fine, Sasha. You're a fighter," Mar assured the other woman.
Sasha gave a small smile. "So are you," she told the other woman.
Summer, Rick, Maggie, Merle and Hershel's POV:
Summer moved the log next to the fence and watched as Hershel walked up. "Dad? Maggie?" she questioned as she got there attention.
"Daddy why aren't you in quarantine?" Maggie asked.
"Is someone sick? Mom? Judy?" Summer asked.
"No, they're both fine," Hershel assured her. "I'm no good to anyone in there. There's people suffering that need my help. I can help bring down there fevers, keep them stable," he told them.
"Daryl and the group left to get antibiotics," Rick told him.
"Some of these people won't last a few hours," Hershel told them.
"I can't let you do this," Maggie told her father.
"Maggie, Glenn's in there," Hershel reminded her.
"Hershel what's goin' on?" Merle asked as he came up.
"Elderberry's, my wife used to make tea with them. It's a natural flu remedy. Caleb's to sick to help, Ronnie is grieving her husband while taking care of everyone, Mar is starting to get sick. I can't stay out here and do nothing," Hershel told them.
"Mar's sick?" Summer asked.
"She just started coughing, I get this to her, maybe she won't get to bad," Hershel told her. "There's so many times that we haven't been able to do anything to change what was happening-what was happening to us. We wished we could, but we couldn't," he told them. "This time, I can. I know I can, so I have too."
"Hershel if you go in there you're going to get sick," Rick told him.
"I can't believe I'm agreein' with Officer Friendly on anything but he's right, it's like signing your death warrant. I sure the hell didn't agree to it when Mar volunteered, and I certainly don't agree with you doing it," Merle told the older man.
"Now we don't know that. What we do know is that these people's symptom's need to be controlled," Hershel informed them.
"They'll be back with the medicine soon," Summer insisted.
"She's right, we can wait," Rick told him.
"Listen damn it! You walk outside, you risk your life, you take a drink of water, you risk your life. And, now a days you take a breath, you risk your life. Every moment now you don't have a choice. The only thing that you can choose is what you're risking it for. Now I can make these people feel a little better and hang on a little bit longer. I can save lives, that's enough for me to risk mine. And you know that," Hershel told them.
"Dad," Maggie said again.
"You need help in there?" Merle asked.
"Uncle Merle!" Summer exclaimed.
"No you're needed out here, I'll get you if I need it," Hershel said as he turned and went inside.
Summer hugged Maggie. "He'll be alright, Maggie. He's strong," she assured the other woman.
"We got to get back to this fence," Merle told them.
"If you need a minute, Maggie, go ahead and take it," Rick said.
Maggie nodded as she walked away.
Jewel and Beth's POV:
Jewel placed her hand on the door and smiled as she heard Judith giggling. She resisted the urge to go in and see the little girl. "Beth, it's Jewel. I wanted to see how the two of you were doing, but I hear that the two of you are just fine. She playing with her red cups again?"
Beth smiled as she walked over the door. "We're fine. Yes she's playing with the cups. It's funny what little ones can find the enjoyment out of. Maggie was just here, she said that Glenn was sick."
"Yeah, Rick is keeping me posted. I wanted to thank you for watching Judy. You didn't have too," Jewel told the young woman.
"We all have jobs to do, yours is to keep you and baby to be safe. Mine is to watch Judy. I know you want to just come in here and cuddle her, but you can't do that, it isn't safe. This will all be over soon and you can give these fat little cheeks of hers all the love you want," Beth told her.
Jewel smiled. "How are you doing? I know I'm probably driving Michonne insane locked up in a room with her. I can't imagine how your managing with Judy, she doesn't talk back."
Beth laughed. "I'm fine. Just hearin' her giggle, well it gives me a hope for future. This baby too," she said. "You're going to be fine."
"Beth you're a lot stronger then you think you. You are going to survive this world, and you're going to surprise yourself at how strong you are," Jewel told her. "You've came a long way from the farm."
Beth smiled. "Thank you, Jewel. At the farm, I used to wonder where Summer got her strength from. It's easy to see, she had no choice havin' you as a mother. Judy's gonna be a strong woman too, aren't you sweetheart?" she asked the baby as she tickled her to get her to giggle. "Summer's gonna be alright, and Carl. Mitch too, he's a fighter."
Jewel smiled. "I love that sound," she said as she wiped a tear coming down her cheek.
"I told Maggie that we don't get to cry," Beth told her.
Jewel laughed. "Blame it on hormones," she told her. "Give her a kiss for me. Mommy loves you baby girl. I'll see you soon. Thank you again Beth," she said as she walked away.
Summer, Rick and Carol's POV:
Summer looked over to see Carol outside the gate getting water. "Dad!" she yelled to get his attention. "Carol!" she yelled as she took off her crossbow and fired at a walker. "Carol, come on!"
Rick ran up and shot a walker. "Carol!" he said as he got her inside. "That was a stupid thing you did going out there," he told her.
"Yes it was," Carol admitted.
"Why didn't you wait? Why didn't you ask Uncle Merle or me to go with you? We don't do things alone anymore!" Summer told her.
"Summer," Rick said in a warning tone. "Carol, you do a lot for us here, for the kids. You sacrifice a lot. Is there anything you wouldn't do for the people here?" he asked.
"No," Carol answered.
"Carol did you kill Ridge and Karen?" Rick asked point blank.
Summer looked at Carol. "Please, Carol, say no. Say that you didn't do that," she begged.
Carol looked at both of them. "Yes I killed them," she said as she walked off.
Summer took a breath as she watched the older woman walk away. "Dad, what are we going to do?"
"I don't know," Rick answered honestly.
