Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
Chapter 134
Author's Note: Not even half into Season 4 and scenes for season 5 are bugging me. I have ideas, especially if they time jump on me. ACK. Brain back to business! Of course they took a bigger vehicle then in the show cause I added people. A little bit of Joey's backstory in this! Please review
The Vet Group:
Joey kept checking the rounds in his gun from the back of the car. Axel glanced over his shoulder. "Why do you keep doing that?"
Jes gave a small laugh from the front seat of the car. "It's his nervous habit."
"I'm not nervous," Joey simply said.
"You're just away from your girl, young love," Bob teased.
Daryl shook his head. "Let's not talk about young love; especially one of the young people is my niece," Daryl huffed. "How about we not talk at all? Hand me those CD's from the glove box," he told Jes as he fiddled with the radio.
"Find sanctuary," A faint voice came from the radio.
"Was that a voice?" Bob asked.
"Hush," Jes barked.
"Determined to survive…..keep alive," the voice said again.
Axel looked out the window as he saw a group of walkers' coming at them. "Watch out!"
Daryl looked up from the radio and gripped the wheel as he turned the steering wheel hard. "Grab something!"
Jes grabbed the dashboard as Daryl came to a stop. "We're gonna have to make a run for it," she told them.
Daryl turned to the men in the back seat. "Joey, Bob, jump out the hatchback, Jes and l clear the middle, Axel you and Ty make a run through the gaps, make a run for the woods. Don't stop, do you hear me?" he asked.
"Yeah," Axel answered.
"You wanted to prove yourself; you're getting your chance. Let's go!" Jes said as she opened up her door, taking out the first two walkers' close to her with her machete. "Go let's go!"
"Move!" Daryl yelled.
"Ty come on!" Bob said as he shot at the walkers as he saw Ty staying in the car.
"Ty! Move it, come on man," Axel said as he used a tire iron on the walker.
Daryl turned. "Move it, go on," he said as he pulled Bob with him as they saw Tyreese being surrounded by walkers'.
The group turned and ran as Ty battled his way out of the walkers'. "Did he make it?" Axel questioned.
Jes watched the trees. "He was surrounded; it would take a damn miracle."
Joey gave a small grin as Tyreese came out of the trees. "Hope we got a few more miracles comin' our way," he told her.
"What the hell were you thinking? You got a death wish or something?" Jes asked the man as she came toward him.
"Jes back off," Daryl told her.
"No, not til he answers me. You came with us to help but first sign of trouble Tyreese you just sit there waiting to be eaten?" Jes yelled at him.
"Come on Jes we need to figure out where we are and find another car," Joey tried to reason with her.
"Answer me Tyreese, or we're gonna be standing here all day," Jes warned.
"Come on Ty, she can do this all day. We need to find a new car, get to that clinic, we got sick people waitin' for us," Joey told him.
"It doesn't matter, like you said, we've lost a whole night. My sister and everyone is probably dead," Tyreese answered.
"So, you're just going to stand there and give up?" Axel asked. "We don't get to do that; we got to keep moving like they are still alive. They are depending on us."
"He's right man, it helps to keep moving," Bob said.
"No it doesn't," Ty answered.
Joey turned to Jes and Daryl. "Maybe we should have left him back at the prison," he told them. "We're at Turner Creek, came fishin' here with my older brother a few times when I was younger. Next town is Barnseville, had a garage there if I remember correctly."
"Sounds like a good place to find a new car," Bob said.
"Come on, let's go, vamanous Ty!" Daryl instructed.
In town:
Joey shook his head as he tried to start the car again. "Dead as a doornail."
"Thanks for pointing out the obvious," Daryl said. "Sometimes you really make me regret havin' Summer apologize to you back when you were kids," he said as he straightened up. "We're gonna need to find a new battery, sure they got one inside," he said.
"We got some unwanted guests inside," Jes told them.
"Clear a path through the bushes, and then go inside," Daryl told them.
Joey and Bob both started to whack at the bushes with Tyreese as Walkers' started to jump out of the bushes. "Wholly crap!" Joey said as he took some down with the help of others. He looked over as Tyreese struggled with one that was trapped in the bushes.
"Let go!" Bob yelled at him.
"Tyreese let it go! You're going to get yourself killed," Axel yelled at him.
Tyreese stumbled back with the walker. "Tyreese! Come on let it go!" Bob yelled again as Jes came over and shot the walker in the head.
"You got a damn death wish or something?" Jes asked him.
"Ty, let's take a walk, see if we can find somethin' useful in this hick town," Joey told the man. "Come on," he said as he took the other man's arm.
Axel watched them as they walked away. "You think he wants to die?"
Jes looked at him. "I think he's in a whole lot of pain, and he don't know how to handle it."
Daryl looked at Axel. "You said you were good at working with engines, come on help me with this one."
Axel nodded. "Got it."
Joey and Tyreese POV:
Joey stepped in front of the other man. "Tyreese, what the hell are you doing? First the car, then that with the walker and not letting go, that's not you."
"Does it really matter if I die? Does it matter if any of us die?" Tyreese asked. "Everyone at the prison could be dead by now."
"Yeah, they could, but they could also be alive, waitin' on us to bring back the medicine. Damn it, Tyreese, you really want to take that chance that Sasha died? That Lexi came down with this? You really want to leave them alone in this world?"
Tyreese leaned against the building. "How old are you?"
Joey shrugged. "In this world, does it really matter? We're all older then the number anyway. I had siblings' before this, an older brother and a younger sister. My brother was in Atlanta when this shit went down, with his fiancée, she was pregnant. Don't know if they made it, not with the bombings or with all the walkers'. My sister, Olivia was twelve; she would have been a year older then Lexi. My mom and her got bit, mom was pickin' her up from school, I had ditched, again. Mom got out of the car was askin' someone if they had seen me….that someone had already turned, got her. Guess they made it back to the house before she turned. I came in that night, mom had already turned, and Olivia was suffering. I ran to my mom's room, got the gun, and killed both of them. Always asked myself if I hadn't skipped, if I was there when she came to pick me up, could I have stopped mom from getting' bit. I'll never know the answer to that question. But you are here, you got the chance to save Sasha, and if Lexi gets sick, her too. Yeah there's a chance Sasha may not make it, but isn't there a chance she will? And if she doesn't, then Lexi is gonna need you more. I know you're angry with whoever did that to Karen and Ridge, but you got to work through it."
"How do you suggest I do that?" Tyreese asked.
"By getting what we need to help those people back at the prison. If we don't succeed, then Karen and Ridge died for nothing. You came out here for Sasha right? Cause she was sick?" Joey asked as he lit a cigarette.
"Yes," Tyreese answered.
"I came so Summer wouldn't have too. She would have, but she needed to stay close to her mother, her family. I don't have any blood to fight for, but I'd die for her. If that means that I'm takin' her spot out here so she can be close to her family, then I'm out here. You know Mitch is sick? Mar too? Daryl wants to get back to them with this medicine. You trying to get yourself killed makes us a man down, a man that we need."
Tyreese looked at him. "You always been this smart?"
Joey laughed. "Everyone has to change in this world, so did I. Before, I was heading down the same road as Merle. Drugs, nothing hardcore mind you, just smoked some now and then. Shoplifted, mostly cigarettes, a lighter, a necklace I was gonna give a girl when I was sixteen, caught her kissin' another boy. Funny thing, this end of the world crap, shooting my mother and sister, made me realize what I didn't want to be. Seein' Summer out in the woods that day? I've had a crush on her since I was eight and she was six. But girls like her; they never went for boys like me. When I heard about Karen and Ridge, when Summer told me, all I could see was her body burnt. I know I can't imagine the pain you are dealin' with if you loved Karen half as much as I love Summer, then I know it much suck."
"Yeah it sucks," Tyreese told him. "You told her yet?"
"Told her what?" Joey asked.
"That you love her," Tyreese told him.
Joey shook his head. "Just kissed her for the first time on the run, right before Zach, then everything else happened. Plus I don't want to get hit again."
Tyreese turned and looked at him. "We don't know how much time we got in this world; you tell that girl how you feel as soon as possible. You don't want you or her dyin' without knowin' she was loved in this world. Let's get goin' see if they got that car fixed yet."
