Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

Chapter 141

Author's Note: You know what they say about the best of plans right? They often go awry. (Mice and Men) I had all my little people figured out where they were going after the attack, and one of my amazing readers (Tyr'amun) suggested that Jewel winds up at Terminus (she's very pregnant) of course she doesn't know who or what they do. My brain went with this idea, and came up with a scenario, and an OC whose going to die either by Summer, Rick or Carol's hand. I had calculated (using a walking dead time line) that Jewel should be about 7 months pregnant at the time the Governor attacked. Well, she's almost 8 months. So there was a month more before the flu happened. I honestly had no idea this was the way that this was going to go, but my readers have excellent ideas/plot suggestions, and my brain went with this one. Governor hasn't attacked yet, we're still dealing with the after math of the flu. And, to 'introduce' the OC whose going to be a thorn in baby and Jewel's side for a couple weeks, there will be a introduction post to Terminus. As Tyr'amun pointed out, we as readers know what they are, but characters don't. And they went through hell to. Poll about the baby sex is now closed.

Beth and Summer's POV:

Summer quietly went into the cell she shared with Beth and went over to pick up Judy. "Hello beautiful, how about you and me give Bethy a break? She's been with you for a couple days, takin' care of you, which I know she loves, but she needs a little bit of alone time, don't you think?"

Beth turned over in her cot. "In other words Judy, big sister wants a little snuggle time," she said as she sat up. "I told Rick I'd bring her up to them in the morning', thought they needed a little cuddle time too," she teased.

"Hey innocent ears, and I'm not talkin' about Ladybug's either," Summer said as she sat down on the bed with her. "Thank you for watchin' her, I know you didn't have too," she said as she hugged the other blond girl.

Beth smiled. "We all have jobs to do, and I think I had the easiest of them all," she said as she smiled at Judith. "Yes, she's such a good girl, aren't you?" she asked the sleeping child. "So where exactly were you going to kidnap her too?" the other teen asked. "Couldn't be sneekin' to see Joey could you? Usin' your innocent baby sister as an excuse to keep your hands off of him?" she teased with a smile.

Summer shook her head and laughed. "We've kissed a couple times, I'm not even thinking' about that."

Beth arched an eyebrow and grinned. "I think your big sisters pants is going to catch on fire for lying. You aren't setting a good example to your younger sister Summer, by lying like that."

Summer rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out playfully at her friend. "Alright, so maybe I've given the thought of his hands on me some thought, but there's this whole thing about fighting to live, and a deadly flu killing people that distracted me," she answered honestly. "Me coming to get Ladybug here had nothing to do with that, I missed her. I missed these chubby cheeks, I missed the cute innocent baby smell that she manages to have even livin' in a prison. I missed the soft hair against my chin. So, yes, I'm kidnapping my baby sister, and we are going to go get a bottle and we are going to go talk with Joey. You, my friend, are off Judy watch for today."

Beth smiled. "Won't be long til we have another little one to cuddle."

"About a month and half, I guess. Yes, we're going to be big sisters," Summer told Judy. "Yes, I always thought I'd be an only child, now I'm the oldest of almost four. Yes, something is going right," she said as she adjusted Judy. "Come on let's let Beth sleep. Yes."

"Have fun," Beth teased.

Rick and Jewel's POV:

Rick gave a small smile as he felt the baby kick him in the side as Jewel had turned over in her sleep. "Can you tell YOUR child it's not nice to wake daddy up from his sleep."

Jewel gave a small snort not opening her eyes. "Can you tell YOUR child to get out of my ribs?" she teased.

Rick laughed as he kissed her as he ran his hand over her stomach. "You think of any names while you were up here having a slumber party with Michonne?" he teased.

Jewel laughed. "Yeah such a slumber party, hopin' that our family doesn't get sick, missing you," she said as she kissed his cheek. "The beard, not so much," she teased. "Thought it would be something we do together, when little one is born. I mean yeah, talk about names have some chosen," she said as she kissed his shoulder.

"Lori named Carl, Carl and Summer named Judy," Rick said as he ran his hand through her hair.

"So are you saying you want to name this one?" Jewel asked.

Rick laughed. "No, actually, I'm horrible at picking names. I think Carl and Judy would both be nameless if I had to chose," he said as he rolled over on his elbow.

"Daryl suggested Summer's name," Jewel said as she finally opened up her eyes.

"Oh this child is doomed to be nameless," Rick teased as he kissed her. "Well, I'd suggest maybe after parents, but anything to do with your parents is off limits," he said. "Carl has my dad's middle name. What about your middle name? You know, I don't know your middle name."

Jewel grinned. "That's one secret that's not getting shared, and I'm not putting that on a child. No way, no how, never."

"Oh it can't be that bad," Rick said as he kissed her collar bone. "Come on, no secrets Mrs. Grimes."

"You are not playing fair," Jewel said as a moan escaped her lips.

"Oh I can do worse, and you know it," Rick told her.

"Alright, but you ever tell another person, we are going to be having a serious talk," he said as she pulled him up. "Bernice. There, Bernice. My parents hated me."

Rick looked at her. "Bernice? Seriously?"

Jewel arched an eyebrow. "Yes Bernice," she said.

Rick laughed. "Yeah we're not naming the baby Bernice if it's a girl," he agreed as he kissed her.

Jewel laughed. "Glad we agree," she said as she kissed him.

Rick glanced over at a bag on the chair. "You packed a bag?" he asked as he kissed her shoulder. "The thinking two steps ahead?

Jewel nodded. "After you told me about Karen and Ridge," she told him as she touched his face. "Karen had made a blanket….for the baby, and I needed to feel like I had to do something. Jane's voice was in my head, always be prepared, be two steps ahead. It's been a while since I hadn't felt safe you know? We had a few good months," she said as she kissed him.

"Yeah, since this one was conceived," Rick said with a smirk. "You know I'll do everything to keep you, Carl, Summer, Judith, and this baby safe," he said as he touched her face.

"I never doubt that Rick. But there's some things that you can't protect us from, like this flu. Even before all this, there were things we couldn't be prepared for. But, if Jane hadn't had those first aid kits under her bed, then I wouldn't have been as prepared as I could have been. I wouldn't have been able to help in camp. I don't know maybe it's what Mar would call nesting. My way of nesting at the end of the world is packing a bag?" she teased.

"If that's what you need to do to be a little more comfortable, a little bit safer, then you keep that bag packed," he said as he kissed her. "Right now, is this making you feel safe?" he asked.

"That's a stupid question Mr. Grimes. You always make me feel safe," Jewel answered as she looked in his eyes. "You're thinking about what happened with Lori when she gave birth to Judith."

"It's hard not to, after not seeing you for a few days, realizing we don't have much more time until little one makes his or her arrival," Rick told her.

"I'm not promising' that I'll be alright, I couldn't have promised that before," Jewel said as she kissed him. "But, we'll just have to have hope. It's gotten us this far right? Dale told me that you and I fallin' in love, Lori being pregnant that was hope. Everything in this world is worth fighting for, maybe some times it doesn't feel like it, you know? But, hearing Judith laugh, watchin' Summer grow into a beautiful woman, seein' Carl smile, being here with you now, well, it makes the bad seem alright," she said as she caressed his face.

"You are something else, Mrs. Grimes," Rick told her.

"You just keep remembering that," Jewel said as she kissed him.

Summer and Joey's POV:

Summer smiled as she walked outside with Judith. "Bet this fresh air feels real good, doesn't it? Huh? Yeah," she said as she kissed her nose.

"Didn't know you were bringing a chaperone," Joey teased as he looked at her.

"You better put that cigarette out, if you want me to come join you," Summer told him.

Joey laughed as he did it and put it back in his pocket. "The walkers' are gathering again," he told her.

"We'll have to work on the fence in the next few days," Summer said as she came over. "Thought ladybug needed some fresh air after being cooped up. Yes, isn't that right?" she asked as she kissed the top of her head. She looked up at Joey then at Summer. "It was Carol, who killed Ridge and Karen."

Joey turned and looked at her. "Carol? You sure?"

Summer nodded. "She didn't lie when dad asked her."

"Where is she now?" Joey asked her as he rubbed her arm.

"Dad and I, we went out on a supply run with her. We left her, we gave her food, supplies, found a car, gave her gas. I asked her….I looked her in the eyes and I asked her what would have happened if it was mom that was sick and she said she didn't know. I might have had my doubts….but when she said that," Summer said softly as she adjusted Judith.

"Here let me take her," Joey offered.

Summer looked at him. "Do you even know how to hold a little person?"

"Excuse me, I did have a little sister," Joey said as he took Judith. "Hi there. You're big sister doesn't think I can handle this. We'll just show her, won't we Lil Asskicker?" he asked.

"Lady Bug," Summer corrected him.

"Let me ask you a question," Joey said to her. "If you had to do it again, if you could rewind the day, be facing her right now, would you do the same thing?"

Summer looked at him. "Is this a trick question?"

Joey shook his head. "No Princess, I'm asking you point blank, if you could rewind the day and knowing how you feel right now, would you do the same thing?"

Summer arched an eyebrow. "Did you just take Judy so I wouldn't punch you because you are holding her?"

Joey laughed. "The thought did cross my mind," he answered.

"You can't go back and change time, so why does it matter?" Summer asked.

Joey looked at her. "It matters because if you can imagine yourself doing something different, then you don't have a clear conscious. Now, if you sit there and you find yourself imagining you'd do the same thing, then you did what you think at the time is right."

"I couldn't have her around mom if she answered the same way, no," Summer answered.

"Then you have your answer," Joey said as he kissed her. "I regret a lot of things, I'd change a lot of things Princess, but in this day and time, guilt has no place. We got enough to worry bout without thinking what if's. We all felt unsafe when we heard about Karen and Ridge. We all couldn't believe someone would do that to two of our own. Maybe one day, we'll understand, but the hurt and the fear is raw right now," he said as he adjusted Judith. "Boy she's heavier then she looks," he said.

Summer laughed. "Try luggin' her for a while," she said. "Beth, Carl, Lexi and I should have muscles galore!"

"Did anyone tell Ronnie or Tyreese yet? Or even your Uncle Daryl and Axel?" Joey asked.

Summer shook her head. "Think Dad plans to do it tomorrow. Thought everyone could use a break. Bob and Axel are up in A Block, pretty sure Uncle Daryl and Tyreese are too."

Joey looked at Judith then at Summer. "Um, she needs changing," he said as he held her out.

"Oh, seriously? A little diaper change is going to scare you?" Summer asked with a laugh as she took Judith.

Joey grinned. "I'll take out your next walker for you," he teased as he kissed her before she went inside.

Author's Note: I will be gone on training from March 7 to the 14th. I will remind you before I go. Thanks!
