Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

Chapter 149

Author's Note: So I had a PM that asked why I kept Axel alive. I have a couple reasons. One being is that I hate and despise not to mention that it annoys me when they introduce a group into an already established group and they kill everyone off. Lost was a big one on that (the whole tail section crew.) The only thing that accomplished was to get me to be afraid of sitting in the back of the freaking plane! So when all the prisoners died, I was annoyed. Once again, WHY? Second of all, a reader asked. I can't do all of what you readers ask, but that was an easy one for me. Now he hasn't had a lot to do, but he's got plans this way. Seriously think them killing him and Merle were a waste of plot lines. Some named person in season 5 is not going to be around-or have the same role as she does now. Not spoiling for anyone. Review please.

Rick's POV:

Rick took a breath as he walked down, as he momentarily hesitated. He looked back at the group, at his pregnant wife, at his son and the rest of his family. He wanted to run back, he wanted to protect them but then he looked at the three family members that the Governor had. He knew he couldn't leave them at his hands, if there was a chance, if there was hope as Hershel would say, to get them out alive, he had to take it. "Let 'em go right now, I'll stay down here. Talk as long as you want, but you let 'em go. You got a tank, you don't need hostages," Rick pleaded with the man.

The Governor looked at him. "I do, this is just to show you how serious I am, not to blast a hole in our new home. You and your people got til sundown to get out of here or they die," he said.

Joey glanced toward Rick then at the Governor. Rick mentally pleaded with him not to do something stupid. "Doesn't have to go down this way," Rick told the Governor as he shook his head slightly at Joey.

"I got more people, more firepower. We need the prison, there it is. I doubt you'll believe me Rick, but I do feel bad that I have to kick Jewel out, her being as big as she is. But there's nothing' I can do about that. You just got to hope that Dixon stubbornness will keep her and that baby alive," the Governor said.

Rick let his wrapped hand flex then relax. He wasn't taking the bate. "Jewel's nearly eight months pregnant, she's not going to make it out there. We've got children, elderly, some of them are sick, they won't make it. Some of them are from Woodbury, you've got to care about them," he insisted.

"Joey's here from Woodbury too, he betrayed me. You got Jes and Merle there, they betrayed me. The people from Woodbury had to where to turn once you destroyed there home. Now, I'm not doing the same to you, I'm givin' you a fighting chance here, Rick."

Group POV:

Summer ran down to the gate with Lexi and Mar. She grabbed Jewel's hand. "Mom what are you doin' still standing here? You need to get on that bus."

Jewel looked at her. "I'm not going anywhere," she said.

"Lexi, you shouldn't be down here," Ty told his younger sister.

"Carl and I are the same age, he's here, I can help," Lexi insisted.

Daryl glanced back at the tub of weapons and made his way toward them. He pushed it from against the wall. "You good?" he asked Bob.

Bob nodded. "Yeah," he said as he took the gun.

"Alright," Daryl said as he nodded. He saw Mar and Merle both move to block his view from the Governor. He looked at Tyreese and Sasha, then nodded at Lexi.

"Yeah it's alright," Sasha answered.

"Where's Mitch?" Daryl asked as Mar took a weapon.

"Ronnie's getting him, Glenn and the other sick ones to the bus. Axel is going to help when he gets some supplies to the bus. Sasha, you and Summer take either side of Jewel, things go bad, you get her to the bus. We'll cover you," Mar instructed.

"You should go to the bus now, Jewel. Dad wouldn't want you to stay here, he wouldn't want to put yourself or the baby in any more danger," Carl told her as he took a gun.

"You're dad's got this, Carl. We'll be alright," Jewel told him as she went to take a gun. She literally tore it out of the bin when she saw Daryl and Merle look at her. "You two better stop treatin' me like I'm going to break," she warned her brothers. "I can still fight both of you. I'm a Dixon, nothing kills a Dixon but a Dixon."

Carl looked at Summer, then went over to Jewel. "Jewel…I can't lose you too. If this goes down bad, you may not have time to get on the bus. We'll find you, Judith and the baby, I promise. But please….mom…you need to get to that bus, you need to be safe."

Jewel blinked, tears threatening to come down her face. She pulled him into a hug. "You are a good man Carl. Lori would be proud…I am proud," she said as she kissed the top of his head. "Alright, you guys win," she said as she kissed Summer. "Take care of them," she told Merle.

"Won't take my eye's off them," Merle told her as he squeezed her shoulder. "Sasha, you've been sick, go with Jewel."

Mar nodded. "We'll handle this, go on," she said.

Sasha nodded. "Come on Jewel," the woman said as she helped Jewel.

Lexi went up to the fence with Carl. "That was a pretty cool thing you did," she told the other teen.

"Just spoke the truth," Carl insisted.

"May have been the only thing that made her leave," Maggie said.

"We got to do something," Carl said.

"Yeah we could easily take them out right now, Jes is on the guard tower," Summer insisted.

"You'd get Hershel, Michonne and Joey killed right now," Merle told her.

"Your dad's got it, they're talking," Daryl told Carl and glanced at Summer.

"We could kill the Governor right now. I'm a good shot, I could end this right now," Carl insisted.

"He hears the first shot, they're all gonna go bats shit crazy on us, we've got to wait, hope Rick can get those three out of danger. Then the Governor dies, he aint getting away this time," Merle told them.

Daryl nodded. "Like it or not, Carl, you're family, got to protect you just like we would Summer. Trust your dad."

Jewel and Glenn's POV:

Jewel sat down on the bus and took a breath. She adjusted the knife on her ankle. "Glenn!" she said as he got on the bus. She got up and hugged him. "Glenn….Rick's out there. Where's Mitch?"

Glenn hugged her. "Rick is strong, he'll handle this. Mitch is helping Ronnie. Where's Maggie?"

"At the fence…they have Hershel…Joey….Michonne. The Governor, he has an army…." Jewel said as she sat down on the seat. "Don't leave Glenn….I know you want too go and fight. So do I, but you're weak…and well I'm pregnant. Plus I don't think I'll have the strength to stay on this bus if you go," she said almost in tears.

Glenn sat down beside her. "We're going to be OK," he said as he squeezed her hand.

"Do you believe that or are you just saying that because you don't want the pregnant woman stressing?" Jewel asked.

Glenn forced a laugh. "We've been through to much, and I'm determined to think that we aren't going down this way. Whatever happens, we'll find each other. We'll be there, as we always have been."

Jewel nodded. "Hope you're right Glenn…."
