This Night

Chapter 152

Author's Note: I've been trying to decide which way was easiest for me to tackle this series of events, since they are all going to be all jumbled away and away from each other. The easiest way is for the characters to pop out of my head and write it there own dang selves, but they just won't do that. So, at the expense of this story being never ending (what-I'm sorry is that groans I hear or clapping. Really hoping it's clapping) I've decided that the easiest way to do it is like they did it with Daryl and Beth and start each person at the prison then go from there. Some people may take two or three chapters. But this is the easiest way for me (Well unless the characters would come and write it for me but alas they won't) to do this many people's take. Also not going to do the people's POV if I'm not adding something to it. And it may not be in order. Please review.

Carl, Lexi and Rick's POV:

Lexi pulled Carl's sleeve. "Come on we got to get on the bus!"

"I'm not leaving my dad! Or Summer!" Carl said as he fired his gun.

Ty looked at them. "Come on you two! They're coming!"

"We're right behind you Tyreese!" Lexi yelled as Ty looked at her. "Go make sure everyone's on the bus. Go make sure Sasha is there. We are right behind you!" Lexi told her big brother confidently. "Carl! Michonne is out there with your dad. You go out there you're going to die. Judy needs you, Jewel needs you. Your dad would want you to be the man he knows you are! He expects you to take care of them if he isn't able to!"

Carl looked at her. "Go to the bus," he told her as he started running toward the fences.

Lexi sighed as she ran to catch up with him. "Carl Grimes you are the most hard headed, stubborn person I've ever met! You want to go out there, you aren't doing it alone. You want to be foolish? Then I'll be foolish right along with you!" she said as she took an ax to a walker who came behind her.

"No one's asking you!" Carl told her.

"Carl watch out!" Lexi yelled as she tried to fire her gun. "I'm out!"

Carl attacked the walker and kept beating it as he started to show emotion. Lexi stood frozen as she watched him.

"Carl! Stop it," Rick ordered as he came up bleeding and wounded. He hugged him. "You alright? Lexi?"

"We're alright. Jewel's on the bus…." Lexi said.

"Judith? Summer?" Rick asked.

"Summer went out there, to save you!" Carl answered.

Lexi took a breath as she went to help Rick. "The bus should have been left already," she said. She stopped as she saw Judith's carrier bloody. She put her hand over her mouth.

"No!" Both Rick and Carl said. Rick to a breath as he straightened up. "We need to go," Rick said as he was supported by both of the teens. "Don't look back, Carl. Don't look back. Just keep walking. Lexi, keep focused."

Lexi nodded. "Train tracks are probably the best….lots of places to regroup," she said as she helped support Rick. As soon as they got to the tracks, Carl went ahead. "He's angry, worried…."

Rick gave a slight nod. "Yeah I know. Why did you stay with him? Why aren't you on the bus with Ty and Sasha?"

Lexi shrugged. "Carl wasn't leaving, didn't feel right about leaving him. I told Tyreese I'd be right behind him….wasn't gonna leave Carl fighting alone."

Rick looked at her. "I appreciate that."

"That's what families do right? My mother always said that blood makes you related, loyalty makes you family," Lexi said as she sighed. "Carl! Slow down! Come on."

"Your mom sounds like a smart woman, guess she had to be to raise you," Rick said as he stumbled a bit.

"Easy," Lexi said. "Carl!" she yelled at him.

"Carl! Stop right now!" Rick said as he watched Carl stop and turn around. "We need to find a place with food and supplies."

"You're dad needs to rest for the night," Lexi told him.

"Hey we're going to…" Rick said as he heard the familiar rumble of walkers.

"I'm out of bullets," Lexi said as she took out a knife. "Jewel had been giving me lessons…." she said as she walked up to the two walkers and kicked one of them down and then took her knife to them.

Carl looked at his father. "You were saying we were going to be alright? Exactly how is this ever going to be alright?" he asked as he stormed off again.

A couple hours later:

Lexi stopped in front of what looked like to be an old BBQ place. "What do you think?" she asked Carl and Rick.

"May not have a lot left, but it's a start," Rick told them. "Stay outside, keep watch."

Carl huffed. "You keep watch. You can barley stand. Lexi can stay out here with you. I'm not going to let you go in there alone."

"Excuse me?" Rick asked.

"Carl…" Lexi said as she looked at him.

"We've done this before, I'm gonna help you clear it. I'm sure Lexi knows how to help clear a building. You should just let us do it," Carl huffed.

"I know how to clear a building," Lexi said as she glanced at Carl.

"Let's go," Rick told them.

Lexi stayed in between the two as she went in. She watched Rick walk into the kitchen.

"Kitchen's clear," he said as he threw some packets of condiments on the table. "This may be all that's left."

"Should look for weapons, like knives and stuff," Lexi suggested as she turned at the sound of a walker. She glanced at a note and noticed the look that Carl gave it as they both noticed it signed by Joe JR. meaning that the walker was his father.

Carl held up his gun ready to shoot it. "I can get it from here," he told them.

"Carl that's not really a good idea," Lexi stated.

Rick nodded. "It's weak, I'll draw it out, stay back both of you," he told them.

Lexi watched as Carl took aim and fired. She shook her head. "You waited a bullet!" she told him.

Carl glared at her. "What? Dad couldn't do it with an ax, he can barley stand."

"Every bullet counts," Rick told him. What if you needed that one later? See what you two can find, then let's move on," he said as he went into the kitchen.

Lexi followed Carl to the storage room. "Seriously, Carl what's your problem?" she hissed at him.

"My problem? Why are you taking his side? Shouldn't you be on my side? Shouldn't you be angry with him because he was in charge? He let this happen!" Carl hissed at her.

Lexi looked at him. "Sides? I'm not on anyone side, Carl. I happen to want to stay alive, that's whose side I'm on. Your dad is blaming himself, he doesn't need your attitude!" she said as she dug through the shelves. "We need to find a place for your dad to get his strength…..then we need to start looking for everyone."

Carl mumbled. "They're all dead, we're not going to find anyone."

Lexi turned and looked at him. "What did you say?"

Carl faced her. "I said they're all dead, we're not going to find anyone. You saw Judith's carrier…" he said.

Lexi took a breath. "I saw her carrier. I also know that a lot of people would have done the same thing we did, look for Judy. There was a lot of bullets being exchanged, and someone might have been hurt when they grabbed for her. I got to keep focused, keep hope that mostly everyone listened and got out of there alright. Right now, though, Carl Grimes, you have your father. He's hurt, and he needs you. You're attitude is not helping this situation right now. Actually it's really annoying and makes me want to punch you in the nose. We aren't going to do this alone, the three of us have to work together, and even if you are angry, well I'd appreciate it if you tone it back a little. Right now, you and your dad is all I have, you and me, we're all your dad has, and your dad and I are all you have. Don't care if you're mad, but don't be foolish," she said as she walked out of the room before he could say anything.

Rick looked up. "Everything OK?" he asked.

"Carl's just finishing up," Lexi said. "How are you doing?"

Rick took a breath. "Kitchen wasn't as empty as I thought," he said.

"That's not what I asked, Rick," Lexi said with a sigh. "Told Carl, I'm keeping hope that they're still alive."

Rick glanced at her. "You believe that?"

Lexi sighed as she put her hands on the table. "We survived, then it's possible others did too. I'm real sorry bout Hershel. He was a real good man."

Rick nodded. "One of the best," he said as Carl came out. "How'd you do?" he asked as he put the things he found on the table.

"I win," Carl said as Lexi started to bag things up.
