Author- I don't know if I can even call myself an author but here it goes.
Disclaimer!
I don't own anything, all of this is JK Rowling's. Also this is my first fic on this site so bare with me and my awful grammar and spelling. I am in no way shape or form a professional writer and this is just a hobby. I am also from America, so the only British words I know are from Harry Potter so bare with me. ANNNDD I'm awful at spelling and grammar so i apologize in advance. Also, as I said at the beginning, this fic is a combination of a bunch of head-canons and ideas that I've seen on Pinterest. So some of the points or conversations in the story are not original. I decided to put them all together.
ALSO! the story is going to be altering a bit. Every chapter will be events rather than everyday life. So for example, Christmas', birthdays, weddings, etc. Hope this is okay.
Anyway... here's chapter 9!
Chapter 9-
Harry stood in front of the door he never thought he would see again. When he had gotten a letter those weeks ago from Dudley he couldn't believe it was real. Ginny was standing next to him holding his hand. Harry felt like if she let go he'd pass out or become ill.
"Would you like me to knock?" She said quietly with a sweet smile. Harry look into her eyes and found the courage to meet the only biological family he had. With a shaking hand he knocked on the door thrice. Almost immediately the door swung open reveling Dudley. Harry's face pulled into a cautious smile. Him and Dudley just stood looking at each other.
"Ouch!" Harry yelped when Ginny pinched his side, "Dudley this is my girlfriend, Ginny Weasley." A polite smile from Ginny. Harry had told her everything about his childhood and knew she was holding back a lot of anger towards Dudley.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Dudley." Dudley said, holding out a hand. Ginny took it, smiling.
"It's a pleasure." I want to shove my foot so far up your- A look from Harry made her wipe the death stare off her face.
After a momment of standing in the threshold Dudley said, "Oh! Come in, come in." Dudley started speaking as he headed towards the living room, "After we got word that the war was over Mr. ah what was his name...Diggle maybe. Anyway, he let us move back here. Mom and Dad didn't really keep up with what was happening, didn't want to. But when the wizard...what's his name...gave us the wizard newspaper I tried to read it as much as i could before Dad threw it away. The rumors were awful but I was glad you made it out." Dudley said the last part quietly, not sure if Harry had the same worry for him.
"Last year was...rough. Not everyone made it, but I'm glad that you were well away from all that." Harry knew that a sad look crossed his face, he knew without looking that Ginny's face mirrored his.
"Who?" Dudley mumbled.
"That's for a rainy day, Dudley." Dudley nodded solemnly and led them into the kitchen where Aunt Petunia was pulling a pan of cookies out of the oven. When she turned around, she looked at Harry with a soft smile. But when she turned to Ginny she gasped and dropped the pan. With oven mits on she covered her open mouth. Harry looked between the two until he realized...Ginny looked similar to his mother. And at first glance, she could be mistaken for her.
"Aunt Petunia, this is my girlfriend, Ginny Weasley." Harry blurted out. Ginny looked at him worried.
Aunt Petunia turned slowly to him, "I-I didn't-she looks-" She looked down and started to pick up the fallen snacks. Ginny rushed to help her, obviously thinking it's her fault.
"I'm so sorry ." Ginny apologized. Aunt Petunia faced the girl, looking into her eyes.
"It wasn't your fault honey. My old eyes just were playing tricks on me." Ginny looked back at Harry with a confused look. Harry gave her a look that said:i'll tell you later When Harry looked back around to Dudley, his Uncle was standing beside his cousin.
"What did you do, boy," Uncle Vernon said. "And who is she. Dudley said only you were coming." Ginny, turning red, went back to Harry's side. Anger flooded through him at how Uncle Vernon made Ginny react.
"She," Harry said cooly, "Is my girlfriend, Ginny Weasley." Ginny smiled softly to Uncle Vernon. More than he deserved.
"I assume you met her at that magic school," Vernon said with disgust in his voice.
"Yes, I did. She is the most brave person I've ever met and has seen and fought more horrors than you would see in three lifetimes." Harry said proudly. This caught Vernon short, he obviously didn't have a retort. Aunt Petunia started to walk over to the trash with the dropped cookies on the pan. Ginny, trying to diffuse the situation, reached for her wand, most likely going to perform magic to restore the dirty and broken cookies. Harry caught her hand and shook his head. Magic wouldn't fix the situation. Ginny stuck out her tongue which made Harry smile.
"Were you about to do magic? Please continue." Harry was surprised when this came from Petunia. Ginny obliged, Pulling out her wand, she mumbled a couple of spells to repair, clean, and warm the cookies. A soft smile came onto Petunia's face. Her, "Thank you." Was barely audible.
The next hour was filled with Dudley speaking about the last year, what he was going to university for, the new girl he met, and countless other things. Vernon declared that he forgot something at work and left the first 10 minutes into the conversation. Harry was surprised when the conversation was switched to him and Ginny.
"So Harry," Dudley asked, "How did you two meet?" Harry looked to Ginny to see if she wanted to explain. Obviously she didn't from the way she looked at Harry, he could describe it as laziness but there was a tinge of fear in it too for some odd reason.
"Uh, well, she is my best friends sister. You know the red head family that came and got me that one year?" A nod from Dudley, "Yes, well, that's their family."
"So that's it?" Dudley asked in disbelieve.
Ginny rolled her eyes, "He's such an awful story teller. I'm Ron's sister and I was a year below Harry in school. I-" Ginny stopped abruptly but breezed over her hesitation, "In my first year i got...Um how to I put this." She looked to Harry for help.
"To know what she's talking about you would have to know the entire story but let's just say that she got kidnapped?" Harry looked to Ginny for confirmation. He didn't want to say the word possessed, knowing Ginny disliked the term.
"Well, if you had kept up with the news you'd know about Voldemort. Well a part of him...possessed me and Harry saved me." Ginny's expression was between happiness and dread from the memory.
"Wow, you guys have been together that long." Dudley said in astonishment.
"Uh well, no not really," Harry started but was cut off by Ginny.
"Harry was a dingbat and didn't see what was right in front of him. Honestly he's more oblivious than Ron. But we-uh- kissed before my sister in laws wedding and then Harry went on the run. It wasn't until he got back that we got together." Ginny said coming to a close.
"Oh wow, well that sounds like a movie." Dudley said.
"Well, take everything we just told you and put in certain death in it a few times and a huge snake." Harry's words shocked everyone in the room except Ginny.
"Oh." Was all Dudley had to say.
'I know I sound joking about it but that's pretty accurate. But I don't want to make this about the war. That's for another day, or never for all we care." Harry said trying to diffuse the situation.
"Oh I understand completely. Sorta. Let's change the subject, Ginny, uh, if you don't mind I would like to see more magic. Only if you would like to show us."
Ginny smiled at his words, "Oh yeah sure. I'm no good as nonverbal over here but I'm doing my best." Harry frowned at how her confidence had gone down. He decided that his family were the reason but still disliked it. Ginny waved her wand in the air, muttering. The cups and plates on the table slowly floated over to the kitchen to pile in the sink.
"Brilliant." Was all Dudley said. "Well I better wash those before Dad gets back" Dudley said standing up. Ginny volunteered to help and the pair went to the kitchen.
Harry stared after Ginny with a smile. "I-I didn't mean to act like that. She just looks so much like her." Aunt petunia said quietly, surprising Harry. She hadn't spoken at all since the cookie incident.
"It's alright." He turned back to Ginny, seeing her laughing at no doubt a story about him.
"You love her don't you?"
"With all my heart and soul." A smile from both of them. Aunt Petunia got up and left, only to return right after with something clenched in her hand.
"I-I don't know-" A sigh. "I never told you but, it was me and a friend of Lily's that arranged their funeral." A moment of silence. "We-We decided that you would need these someday. He told me to keep it, something about him being un predictable. I wondered why Lily would have made a friend with scars all over his face but I never really knew that part of her." A sad laugh came from Harry. "You know him?" Petunia said with confusion.
"Yeah, he was sort of a father figure to me." A sad smile, "I'm the godfather of his son."
"You talk like he's dead." Petunia said. With a sad look from Harry she knew she had guessed right. "Oh."
Another moment of silence, "Here," She dropped three rings into his hand. A beautiful engagement ring with a small diamond in the center of a band surrounded by silver vines, two small emeralds were placed on either side of the diamond. Two identical wedding bands, a simple band of silver. One ring was slimmer than the other. On the inside of the slimmer one was engraved with: In this life or the next I'll be your doe in the darkness. On the other was engraved with: In this life or the next, I'll be your stag in the darkness. Harry smiled at the rings.
"Thank you," he muttered. As Ginny and Dudley walked back in the room, Harry slipped the rings into his pocket. Still smiling, Ginny walked over to him.
"You ready?" Ginny mouthed trying not to be rude, she knew our next stop would be to see Teddy and it was an understatement to say she was excited. With a nod, Harry stood.
"I'm so sorry we have to go so soon but we are late." With Harry's words Dudleys face fell.
"Oh, I haven't even seen the time. Well, I suppose you will be needing to go. May I ask where you are going?" Dudley said with caution, expecting rejection.
"We are going to see my godson," Harry reached his back pocket and pulled out one of the few pictures he kept in there. He handed Dudley a picture of Teddy with bright blue hair. Andromeda said he would be just like his mother in his hair. A wacky due every time we saw him. Harry had been overjoyed when he had gotten her letter with the picture.
At first when Dudley looked at the picture he was confused with the fact the small child had blue hair. Harry didn't know why that look came onto Dudley's face but Ginny caught it and explained, "Teddy is a..." Ginny paused trying the right muggle word, "He can change his appearance at will. So you can imagine how he plays around with his hair a lot." Dudley nodded taking one last look at the photo before handing it back to Harry. Dudley stood and walked out Harry and Ginny, even though he didn't need to. As the three walked by the cupboard under the stairs Harry saw Ginny scowl at it from the corner of his eye. As the last goodbyes were said and the door was shut, Harry turned to Ginny.
"I still hate them." She said simply, walking farther down the street, wanting to apparate away.
"Hate is a very strong word."
"Correct."
"I mean Vernon is still a pain but Aunt Petunia and Dudley have gotten better."
Ginny scoffed. Were they really better or just acting? I don't think your a waste of space. Thats what Dudley has said to Harry. Ginny noticed Harry's silence and turned around to find him walking with his head down.
"I-I didn't mean it. I mean I did but I won't talk about it if it does this to you."
"Huh, what, oh no I was just thinking." Ginny looked at him worried. She walked over and hugged him. Harry, glad for the touch, hugged her back. Ginny looked up and brought Harry's head down to hers and kissed him. Harry took her waist and pulled her closer. Ginny, seeing that her method worked, slipped out of his grip and started skipping down the street towards a non-populated area for them to apparate. With Harry chasing after her, Ginny smiled at what was to come.
