This Night
Chapter 160
Author's Note: I have been so brain dead from work that I've had no desire to write or anything when I get home this week! I've been arguing with Rick and Glenn on who should get the next chapter. Rick was winning. But, I managed to get him quieted down. Please review.
Glenn and Mitch's POV:
Glenn blinked as he heard moans and groans of walkers as he pulled himself up and away from the walkers. "Maggie!" he yelled as he backed away. He turned his head when he heard a sound from behind him. "Mitch!" he yelled as he helped him up. "You bit or scratched?" he asked as he saw the knife covered in blood. "Why aren't you on the bus?"
"I'm not bit or scratched…I saw you…I went to look for Judith. There was someone following you almost took you down, but I called to him, and he turned around. I didn't think…I rushed at him…he was shocked and I kneed him and then stabbed him in the head. I never…" Mitch stammered.
"Hey…you did what you had to do. Us Atlanta boys, we got to stick together right?" Glenn asked.
Mitch nodded as he looked at the chaos. "How are we going to get out?"
Glenn had to smile as he noticed the boy said how instead of are we getting out. "We do it together. Did you see the bus? Did you see anyone leave?" he asked as he helped Mitch up.
Mitch shook his head. "I was to focused on not losing you. I yelled out for you, but you didn't hear me."
Glenn nodded. "I'm sorry, but I'm glad you are here," he said as he leaned against the wall to take a breath.
"Are you alright? Still weak from the flu?" Mitch asked as he grabbed Glenn's arm.
"Yeah, but I'll be alright," Glenn assured him as he looked down at him. "You wouldn't have a plan would you?"
Mitch looked up at him. "I was kinda hoping you would," he answered as he helped Glenn into his and Maggie's cell.
Glenn took a breath as he saw the picture of Maggie and took a breath. He bent down and got a bag and riot gear. "This is one of those times, I wish I didn't have to be the responsible adult," he teased.
The brown haired boy gave a smirk. "Well, I kinda like being a kid in this situation," he said as he looked out of the cell. "Everything happened so quickly, maybe people left weapons in there cells. I'll go and look," Mitch offered.
"Mitch wait. We do this together, we don't separate. Only way we are going to survive is by working together. I know Maggie is alive. I also know Daryl and Mar are. We do this together, we get back to the rest of our family. But until then, it's you and me, and we don't do it alone. Got it?" Glenn asked as he handed him weapons.
"Got it," Mitch said.
Glenn stood up. "Let's make this quick. Look for weapons, in and out. The longer we wait, the harder it's going to be for us to get out."
Mitch nodded as he went into the next cell. "Why do I think it's not going to be as exciting to break out of the prison as it was to break into it?" he asked with a sigh.
Mitch and Glenn gathered what they could find in the cells and situated the bags. "You alright with yours? Not to heavy?" Glenn asked.
Mitch nodded. "It's fine," he answered.
Glenn smiled. "You've been hanging around Daryl to long," he said. "Typical Dixon answer. Nothing can kill a Dixon but a Dixon right?"
Mitch smirked. "Guess right now we're both channeling that?" he asked as he went to the door. "Really wish there was size of riot gear in my size, it would make me feel a whole lot safer."
"We'll be alright," Glenn assured him.
"Are you saying that to assure yourself of me?" Mitch asked.
"A little bit of both," Glenn answered. "You ready?" he asked as he stood by the door.
Mitch swallowed and nodded. "Sure, yeah, maybe," he answered as he held up a gun.
"On the count of three," Glenn told him. "One, two, three," he said as he opened the door and both walked out. Glenn paused as he put his hand on Mitch's shoulder and nodded to behind the fenced area where a pigtailed young woman sat. Mitch looked up at Glenn and undid the latch to the fenced in area without Glenn having to ask. They both walked in and looked at the woman. Glenn picked up a gun that was next to her. It's full, did you even fire a shot?" he asked the woman who was sitting.
"I was part of this," the woman answered.
"We know," Mitch answered. "But, you're here now, and so are we," he informed her as he started to dig out weapons from his bag. "I'm Mitch, he's Glenn," Mitch introduced as he held up the weapons.
"Why are you introducing yourself to me? I was part of this. That kid…Joey…he tried to tell me before we got here, but I didn't listen," Tara said.
Glenn looked at the woman then at Mitch. "We like to know the names of the people we are relying on to keep us alive. Now you need to take those weapons, and get ready. We are going to get out of here, but we need your help."
Mitch held up the weapons again. "You gonna die because you made a mistake? You can make up for that right now, but the longer you hesitate, the risk gets higher that we all die. So, once again I'm Mitch and he's Glenn," he said.
"Tara," she said as she stood up. "Why do you want my help?"
"We need it," Glenn said. "You are going to go in front of me, Mitch in the middle. Use the guns, then use your knives," he instructed. He handed Mitch a baseball bat. "Aim at the heads, just like we've done before, you don't think you're going to be able to take one out, you let me or Tara do it. You understand?" he asked as he took out a lighter and a smoke bomb.
"Got it, wish I had a bow and arrow," Mitch said.
Tara looked at them. "He's just a kid."
Glenn looked at him. "No he's one of the two people who are going to keep you alive right now. And, I'm telling you to do the same for him. As soon as I throw this, I need you to go out in front of me Tara. We can do this, but we can't do it alone," he said. "Get back," he told the two of them as he threw the smoke bomb. "Go go! Stay ahead of me! Shoot! Shoot!" he yelled as they made there way through the hordes of walkers' and out of the prison. "Mitch you alright?"
Mitch took a breath as he caught his breath. "Yeah I'm alright," he said as he turned and saw Tara was walking away.
"Did you see any of our people get out?" Glenn asked Tara.
Tara shook her head. "All I saw was my sister in that field. She wasn't supposed to be there. She had a gun but they just swarmed her. She wasn't supposed to be there. I did it for him, I trusted him. And then he just killed that old man."
Mitch and Glenn looked at each other. "Hershel? Was his name Hershel?" Glenn asked.
"I'm so sorry. Brian, that man, he told us you were bad people. Joey he tried to tell me, but I wouldn't believe it. I didn't want to believe there was a pregnant woman there or kids. I know that you aren't bad people, I could see that. I see it now, so what we did, what I did…I mean I'm a peace of shit. Why would you want me help?"
"We don't want it, we need it," Glenn told her.
"You aren't the first person that was tricked by the Governor. Joey was part of the first group that tried to take over the prison, but he made a decision not to fight. And now he's important to our family," Mitch said.
Glenn nodded. "I need to find Maggie. We need to find the rest of our group."
"Whose Maggie?" Tara asked.
"My wife," Glenn answered. "We also need to find the rest of the family."
"What about your parents?" Tara asked Mitch.
"My real parents died before this. But I like Mar and Daryl a lot better then them anyway. They are alive and we'll find them," Mitch said as he adjusted his bag on his back.
"How do you know that any of them are alive?" Tara asked as she went over. "Hand over the bag kiddo," she said.
Glenn nodded at Mitch to give Tara the bag. "I don't know. But Hershel, Maggie's father, was a great man and he told me all I had to do was believe, so that's what I'm going to do right now. The three of us shouldn't be alive right now, but we are. So Maggie, Mar, Daryl, Beth, Jewel…all of them they got out. You are going to help us find them. This isn't it, it can't be," he said.
"I want to believe that, I really do," Tara said.
"Then believe, and help us," Mitch told her. "Glenn, we've got company…" Mitch said as he held up the baseball bat. "Backs to each other? So we can see each side?"
Glenn nodded as he pulled Tara with them to get her in formation.
"You guys done this before I take it?" Tara asked.
"More then a few," Mitch answered as they took out walkers'. "Glenn! Hey! Glenn!" he yelled as he ran over to him. "Come on Glenn, us Atlanta boys don't give up that easy," he told him as he tried to help the unconscious man up. Mitch raised his head at the sound of the truck approaching.
Tara took down a walker and then looked up at the truck. "Hope you enjoyed the show assholes!" she yelled.
The door opened and a red hair man got out of the truck. "You got a damn mouth on you, you know that? What else you got?" he asked.
