Summary: They had been seeing each other in secret for a reason. They wanted something that didn't involve their family. They already had to deal with expectations and the impending uncertainty of their graduation. Sadly good things have to come to an end.
Pairing: Kagome/Sasuke
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to its respective owners. All mistakes are my own. This took way longer than I thought it would but don't worry there are more and this is not abandoned. I have too many ideas for the chunin exams for this to die. Also might go through and polish a couple chapters, not change them story wise but like fix grammar and ish like that. Might not as well, not sure.

"Hey Higurashi-senpai, long time no see," Mitsu stopped in his tracks and turned to see his old teammate Hatake Kakashi leaned casually against a wall, his masked face in his bright orange porn book. "I see your mission was successful, I lost my bet with Genma."
"Oh, I'm alive," Mitsu's lips thinned, he didn't want to think about the disaster that had been his last mission. The one that almost killed him, the one were he had to be declared MIA to blend into a group of rogues to get close to Orochimaru. Those horrible cold nights were he couldn't sleep because he thought he would be found out. He blinked to whip his mind, he was home and safe. "Hatake-san, how can I help you?" Mitsu asked as he kept his shoulders from tensing up. It wasn't like he didn't like the other ninja, he did, but he was never at ease around the white haired jonin. There was something that just rubbed him the wrong way. Kakashi didn't just talk to anyone outside of Guy.
"I was hoping to have a little chat with you, I feel like I haven't done my diligence as a sensei for my students," the man said as he put his book into one of his back pouches, "How about we go for some tea, my treat."
"Sure, I'm not working right now," Mitsu said with a shrug, it wasn't a complete lie. He was supposed to be patrolling but he was placed in a low crime area for today. Whatever this man wanted with his kids held more importance that ushering gossiping old women out of the main road. Kakashi led him a tea shop that was a little out of the way, a place frequented by ANBU because of the late hours of the shop. They walked in, gave a quick bow to the owner and sat in an isolated corner. A waitress came by to place small cups filled with barley tea and two menus.
"Do you want me to get to the point or take my time?" Kakashi asked as he flash drank his tea and continued to hold the cup in his hands.
"I've never known you to take your time, the impulsiveness you had as a youth never waned. I trust this isn't about Naruto," the barley tea in his cup began to float forming bubbles and random blots. A harmless parlor trick that he used to do to entertain his children but, a warning to Kakashi that he could easily make the liquid pierce through any part of him or paralyze him as the body is mostly water. A jutsu he looked forward to teaching Kagome in the coming weeks.
"No, it's about a little prodigy you've managed to hide from the village. Smart convincing her peers to write her off as barely qualified civilian, a circus performer is quite creative," Mitsu popped on of the blots into his mouth as he kept his face impassive. "I looked into it after a few small missions but not intently. Some parents don't want their children to graduate early. That's understandable," Mitus' shoulders tensed as his teeth began to grind, "But Kagome has been held back for the beginning, she could have graduated the academy a lot sooner. Not as young as say Itachi or myself did but that's negligible." Kakashi gave a one-sided shrug, "She could have already established herself as a chunin, maybe been promoted again."
"Both of your early departures were in time of war, I experienced it myself after my father and I immigrated here," his eyes shifted to look at the empty cup, "I was only ten, could barely speak the language but, I was able to kill and that was enough. What's your point? I wanted her to enjoy her childhood, that's not a crime."
"You didn't even want to enroll her in school, your father did. I'm confused about your parenting tactics. You have a fine ninja under your wings and you tried to do everything to keep her from her potential." If Mitsu was anyone else he could have confused the jonin's tone as concern but he knew better. Hatake only wanted to groom another soldier for the village and the white haired boy saw his daughter as the best candidate. Once a child of war, always a child of war.
"Don't project your ideals of family onto me. Yes, my father went behind my back and enrolled her. But she would have been trained regardless of the academy," he picked up a menu to give the waitress the idea that he would order something. "What do you know of my clan?"
"You come from an island of the Land of Water, possess the ability to 'control' the elements and you are a branch of the Taisho line, who's leader is rumored to still be alive even though it's been centuries since the clans creation. All of this was submitted to Konoha by Higurashi Hiroto at the time he was approved to become a citizen." He couldn't tell if that was the full extent of the information Hatake truly did know.
"You know a good amount but that's all textbook and shallow recons. I'll tell you a small thing you won't find there. In our clan, Higurashi women are a force all of their own. They are just as capable fighters as men but, they thrive as entertainers. As a young boy I remember there being a theater troupe of only women, created by the women of my claim and they accepted those outside of it as well. My mother was a lead actress and is now I believe a head instructor." Kakashi's eye shined at the new information, "However, my mother was more than a performer, she could harness four elements, a rare trait. She wiped out a small band of rogues and many others who held the notion that entertainer also meant a whore." Mitsu began to fiddle with the cup. "My wife, wasn't a Higurashi but, I'm predisposed to be attracted to entertainers rather than nin women." he added with a shrug, it wasn't important or anything the white haired man could turn against him.
"And Kagome and her mother as acrobats in the circus, yes I get the point. But if that's the case and she does better as a performer. And it's in your 'culture' why did-"
"My father is in denial, he is placing his expectations of a first born son onto Kagome even though, I have a blood son. He's been different ever since his divorce from mother. However I have a theory that he does what he does because her spiritual connections have been stronger than her brother's since the day she was born."
"You said connections as in more than one but the file said-"
"What is your point, Hatake. I'm sure you've seen her use it. Or your more of useless sensei than I thought," Mitsu looked at the old clock hanging on the wall, "What was your original point?" he took momentary pleasure at seeing Hatake narrow his visible eye at him.
"During our last mission something happened that I was unprepared for,"
"As do with most missions," he ate another floating blob of tea, the bitter residue left a film on his tongue.
"I know but," Kakashi stopped to compose himself, "Your daughter was able to stop the Nine-Tails from emerging in Naruto and she seemed to, her chakra shifted to something that wasn't human," the sensei paused when the hovering tea turned to spikes and stop barely a millimeter from his visible eye.
"Did you report this to the Hokage?" Mitsu expanded his jutsu feeling all of Hatake's major arteries.
"No, I wanted to-" Kakashi gasped as his heart skipped every other beat and he was unable to pound his chest.
"Did you tell Kagome?" Mitsu was prepared to create clots if he got an undesirable answer. A clot was untraceable to him and mishap or side effect of soldier pill abuse.
"No, I-"
"Good, I'll address that myself. Thank you for informing me Hatake, I have to get back to patrol," the father stood with confidence and evacuated the tea shop. Leaving Kakashi behind to get his bearings back as his heart began to beat normally once more.
I'm so sorry for the lateness, I'm about to go into my senior year and I have stuff to prepare. But I have another chapter in the works that was supposed to be in the place of this one and this came to mind. The other chapter is mostly done and I might break it down from a large chunk into smaller bits, not really sure yet. But anyways, thank you for the support. I love you all for sticking with me.
