Disclaimer: Do not own either Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago MD or Night Shift, they belong to their perspective owners. I don't own Homeward Bound: Lost in San Francisco either. I own Sarah Elizabeth.

My daughter and I have been fans of Eoin Macken since he guest starred and recurred in his role as "Gwaine" on the TV Show "Merlin". I dearly loved his character on "The Night Shift, 2014".

As you know my husband started watching "Chicago Fire" when certain network tv shows were showing their last episode because of the pandemic. I dearly love Taylor Kinney's character of "Kelly Severide". The character growth has made me endure him even more.

Hope you enjoy this next installment. I will try to update my other stories however this one has grabbed my attention more.

Now on to this lovable little story.

Caring for Friends

Sarah Elizabeth was proud of Kelly for volunteering to give bone marrow to Anna. He had come a long way to wanting a committed relationship. Anna was good for Kelly. It made him a better man. Sarah had felt like an older sibling to Kelly and some of the crew at Firehouse 51. Hermann on the other hand, not so much. He had the whole dad thing down pat.

Sarah was standing in her kitchen when she received a call from a former Firefighter now doctor Jeff Clarke practicing at Chicago Medical.

"Clark, what can I do for you?"

"Sarah, I need you to come to Chicago Med. Serveride just had a bone marrow extraction done without an epidural. He is in a lot of pain and I need someone I can trust to stay with him while I am doing my rounds."

"What do you mean he did the procedure without an epidural?! Never mind, I'm leaving now. I will be there in 10 minutes. I want answers to Serveride's stupidness."

Clark sighed, "See you in 8. I know how you drive."

"If I get a ticket make sure Voight gets the bill. They rely on Kelly way too much for my liking."

Clark chuckled, "I'll do just that."

After nearly beating every red light to get to the hospital. On the outside of Kelly's hospital room, Clarke explained to Sarah that Severide had hurt his back on a call and had bruised his pelvis in the process as well as signing a thick stack of waivers of not suing the hospital for him to do the procedure. So here she sat in Kelly Serveride's hospital room waiting for him to wake up so she could give him the riot act. To quote Sassy from Homeward Bound: Lost in San Francisco,"stupid stupidness". She had known only one other person that would've done the same exact thing as Lieutenant Severide and that would've been T.C. Callahan. Speaking of T.C., she pulled out her phone and looked at the pictures that Jordan had sent of the kids. She had to chuckle at the last picture because Charlene or Charlie was ever bit her father's daughter. Charlie was dressed in a tiny hospital scrub top with blue jeans and boots to look like her daddy for Halloween.

Kelly heard someone chuckle and recognized it from it's deep undertones. He groaned. The pain was unbearable, however his adopted older sister was going to make his life a living heck for volunteering for the surgery with a bruised back. He wasn't going to let Anna die from not giving her his bone marrow.

Still looking at her pictures on her phone, Sarah heard Severide starting to move around in his hospital bed and said, "Welcome back Severide. I should give you the riot act and give you an old fashioned scolding, however, I won't do that because I know why you did it."

Kelly knew if he moved his neck he would be screaming because of the pain, although he wanted to know what she was chuckling about, "What was," licking his lips and biting it to keep from screaming, after a few seconds of controlling the pain he was able to let go of his lip, "so funny?"

Sarah could hear the pain behind the question and sighed in sympathy, "I was looking at photos of some kids that live in Texas." Changing position on the hard plastic chair with a small grunt as well as changing the subject, "I know having back surgery is painful. I had two herniated discs when I was 20. Found out the medical profession wasn't for me."

"When?" Just talking was hurting however it was a distraction from the pain in his pelvis.

"June of 1991. Then I had two C-Sections, one in 1996 and one in 2001. Both of my babies are now full grown. Elizabeth is into Arthurian history and loves learning about the Medieval period, so she is touring Europe and its rich history. My son J.B. is going to college in Arizona, he wants to be a pastor or in your case a Chaplain. He is also on the swim team and working as a lifeguard."

"Sarah" Kelly said with severe pain that caused him to cry from it. Tears were leaking from his eyes going down his face because of the extreme pain.

Sarah moved her chair closer to the bed, "I'm here Kelly. Will I hurt you if I just hold your hand?"

Kelly mouthed, "No"

Sarah reached for his hand and started humming Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, as well as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. She had sung these songs to her children when they were little. She hoped her humming would be enough of a distraction from the pain so Kelly would be able to get some more sleep.

Dr. Jeff Clarke popped his head in Severide's room to see how he was doing and could hear the humming coming from Sarah and smiled.

Hearing the door open to the room and hoping it was Clarke, Sarah asked a favor of him, "Jeff get a hold of Dr. T.C. Callahan at San Antonio Memorial. If you can't get a hold of him talk to either Dr. 's Allister or Alexander they will know where he would be at this time of night, which he will either be at the hospital or at home with the kids. They have been wanting to see me, I think this is as good a time as any, don't you?"

"Sarah?"

"Jeff," Sarah sighed with tiredness her back was beginning to hurt, but she didn't want to leave Kelly's side. She didn't want to snap at Clarke because of his question which Sarah knew would come next in his inquiry.

"Do you need a break?"

Severide squeezed her hand and Sarah answered Jeff's question, "No, not right now. I'll explain once T.C. is in Chicago."

"Okay."

"Thanks"
