Chapter Two

Dr. Jeff Clarke closed the door to Severide's room and sighed. He knew that Sarah was hurting even though she wouldn't admit it to him. Turning to the nurses station and looking for April, who he spotted filling the chart of her previous patient.

"April," Clarke waited until April turned to look at him before continuing, "do you know the number for San Antonio Memorial in Texas?"

All the nurses looked up then. Every nurse knew the number for the military/civilian hospital.

"Yes I do. Do you need to get a hold of someone there?"

"Yes, for the well being of both of my patients."

April came around on the other side of the nurses station to look into Severide's room and then looked at Dr. Clarke with a question in her dark brown eyes.

"Sarah won't tell me she is hurting, which I know she is, from sitting in that hospital chair for the last two hours."

April nodded her head. She knew Sarah's story however she wasn't going to tell Jeff. She didn't want to break the confidence of a friend. So she turned back to the nurses station and dialed the number by heart and then handed the receiver to Clarke, who took it and waited for someone to pick up.

"San Antonio Memorial, Mollie speaking."

"This is Dr. Jeff Clarke from Chicago Med, may I speak with Dr. Callahan please." Jeff watched as April's eyes went wide.

"Dr. Callahan is with a patient."

"Are Dr. Alexander or Dr. Allister busy?"

Mollie looked right at Drew, "Dr. Allister is free."

Drew's head popped up at his name. Mollie motioned him over to her desk.

"May I speak to him?"

"Just a moment." Putting her hand on the receiver Molly said 'Chicago Med'.

Drew cocked one eyebrow up in surprise as he accepted the phone from Mollie. Why would Chicago Med be calling SAM at this hour? "This Dr. Allister"

"Dr. Allister, this is Dr. Jeff Clarke from Chicago Med. I have a patient here by the name of Sarah Elizabeth and she is asking for Dr. Callahan do you know when he will be available?"

Drew looked at the room that T.C. was in and just about answered when he watched T.C. walk out of the exam room. "He just existed visiting a patient. Is it urgent?"

"To some extent, yes."

"One moment" Drew covered the receiver of the phone with his hand and called for one of his best friends. "T.C."

"I have a Dr. Jeff Clark from Chicago Med that wants to speak to you."

T.C. folded up the patient file then headed toward Drew. If Chicago Med was calling something was wrong with Sarah. He and Jordan befriended Sarah on their way to a medical conference just shy of two years ago. They had become fast friends. "Callahan"

Jeff took a deep breath. He was getting tired from being up all night as well as repeating himself however he knew both of his patients were worth the hassle, "This is Dr. Clarke from Chicago Med, Sarah Elizabeth has asked for you by name and was wondering if you mind coming up to Chicago for a visit. She is also being a support system for a local firefighter here in the hospital who just recently had a bone marrow extraction."

T.C. sucked in a breath, "This firefighter wouldn't happen to be Kelly Severide would it?"

"Yes"

"I can probably be up there sometime tomorrow afternoon."

"Thank you. I will let her know that you are on your way."

They both hung up.

In San Antonio, T.C. pulled out his cell phone and texted Elizabeth. "What is wrong? U hurting or is someone else?"

A few seconds he received a text back with the word 'both'

'Kelly no epidural. Bone marrow extraction. Need little brother, wife, and kids.' To sweeten the deal Sarah added, 'Will take them to FH 51 to meet the 2nd shift. Good ppl.'

T.C. blew out a breath and showed the text to Jordan once she exited her patients room.

"I don't see a problem other than getting up there. We have enough doctors now so that is not the issue."
