The air around the rest of Team Seven seemed to freeze.
."What?"
"You can't be serious," Naruto started, hoping it was an elaborate joke. Kakashi-sensei was trying to make them sweat that was it.
"Oh, I am," Kakashi said as he pulled out a timer from his pocket. The same one from their first test as the genin team. "You have, three hours, starting now," he smacked his palm on the top button and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
-3 hours remaining-
"What are we going to do?" Naruto asked as he raked his hands through this hair. A small part of him was still hoping that Kakashi would come back with Kagome, and this was some joke. But as the clock loudly ticked, it dawned on him how real it was.
"Rescue her, idiot," Sasuke said while trying to keep calm, his jaw was clenched tight. Why was his uncle home? This didn't fully make sense.
"How? She was taken by a jonin. I know you are cocky, but we can't fight that," Naruto would love to be able to beat an upper-class nin, but he knew his limit. "If all three of us were here, then we'd have a chance."
"Let me think," Sasuke felt a lot of pressure on his shoulder. If he failed to save Kagome, he would lose her to his uncle. The thought filled him with such rage, and he could feel his Sharingan start to activate. He couldn't fail, she was his fiance. He was strong, he was cunning, they could manage. This was a chance to prove himself, become a true leader.
"There's no way, we can get her back," Naruto started to pace back and forth, "Oh, god we are screwed. Holy shit, my sister is gone forever. I knew I was going to lose her to an Uchiha, but not like this!"
"We can get her," the Uchiha's voice was uncertain, he knew that they didn't have a chance in hell against Obito. The man had a reputation as one of the strongest Uchihas, only contested by Shisui and Itachi. He was a war legend and might have taken down the three-tailed beast. "Maybe, if we run, very fast, we can find Shisui or Itachi to help us." That hurt his pride to say, but fuck his pride his heart was in the hands of his uncle. And leaders had to be able to ask for help, and fuck if they didn't' need that right now.
"No, Kakashi-sensei, said we have to do it. I don't want to risk Kagome getting," he stopped and his face gained a green tint to it, "Oh god, I'm going to be sick. We can't get help, we are running up our time, we need to move. Do you want her to be taken advantage of," Naruto's voice took on an accusative tone.
"Of fucking course, I don't want that!" Sasuke yelled at the blonde making the other recoil back.
"Oh no, what if he's doing something to her right now," Naruto started to pace once more.
"He's not, we have less than three hours, let me think, I can figure this out," he brought his hand to his chin.
"What do you think, that you're the only thinker here?"
"No, I'm trying to be level-headed. We need to be rational, panicking will get up nowhere," they exchanged a quick glare at the other.
"Well fine, but just know you aren't smarter than me. This is for Kagome, and if your plan sucks, it's your fault."
"Okay, okay, think back to the academy. What to do when a teammate is taken?"
"Um, regroup…"
"Check, next is to assess the risk and possibility of rescue,"
"Um, high risk, low possibility."
"Don't say that, there has to be a way or Kakashi, wouldn't have asked us to do this. Finally, we assess where she could be," he looks around at the trees rustling in the wind, "They can't be that far if we are supposed to find her in less than three hours."
"Maybe, there's a secret place?" Naruto points across the small creek that runs along the grounds, "Probably over there if I had to guess, don't know what's that way, but worth a try."
"Good guess as any, we need to move fast and efficiently if we will lose time. There is little room for error."
"Got it."
…
When Kagome came to, a couple of things were apparent. One she was in a cave, two she wasn't bound, and three, most important, the man that had knocked her out was sitting at the entrance, his back to her. With slow movements, she moved her hands across the floor to feel for some sort of foliage Her connection to her spirits felt fuzzy.
"I'm not a threat to you," the man said as he turned to her.
"What?" her mouth felt stiff from lack of use, her word slightly slurred. He stood and walked towards her, his features weren't defined because of the light shining behind him.
"Let me introduce myself," he crouched down in front of her, "I'm Uchiha Obito."
"Uh, I'm," she started to sit up.
"Higurashi Kagome, I know Shisui told me about you!" any sense of intimidation or mystery this man had disappeared as he smiled brightly at her. She could see him more clearly now, and he was handsome. But he was an Uchiha that was a given, the upper half of his face was covered, and the bottom left of his face was scarred, and he was still very attractive.
"Oh," she felt bad for staring, his scars reminded her of tree bark, it was mesmerizing.
"Yeah, welcome to the family," he took her hand and shook it vigorously.
"Thanks, I mean, I'm only engaged," she could feel her face blush.
"Oh, oh no, we Uchiha's love with our whole heart," he slapped his vest covered chest, his single Sharingan activated, "And then some," his eye went back to black, "It can get quite scary with how much we love. So, yes, you are family. You kinda can't leave, but don't be scared. You'll always be protected."
"Good to know," she looked around him.
'God job mistress, you had to fall for the crazies,' Forest spirits chastised, and she was happy to hear the voices.
'I agree,' Water chimed in.
'Are you shocked? They chose to breathe fire. A family I can learn to love,' Fire said.
'That is a good point,' Lightning's deep voice rumbled through the space.
'Where have you been?' Kagome asked,
'Here, when you're unconscious, we're still here, you just can't hear us.'
"So, why am I here?" Kagome inquired out loud.
"Kakashi wanted me to help with an exercise." Obito crossed his arms across his chest and pouted, "Some homecoming, sometimes, I think Kakashi only wants me around when he needs things." the man tilted his head with a more dramatic flair, "Huh, what happened to good friends? Well I mean he was always an ass."
"What's the exercise?" If it was teamwork-based, why wasn't she out there with her team. Wouldn't they need her?
"I can't tell you, well I am I could, I shouldn't though," he shrugged his shoulders, and Kagome stared at him bewildered. This man was more eccentric than Shisui, she didn't think that was possible.
"So are Sasuke and Naruto in a different cave?"
"No,"
"So?"
"No more questions about them," Obito said as he inched closer.
'So weird, I need to know why, I'm here,' she tried to scooch away as he eerily crept closer. 'I wonder if I can,' she starts to channel her kekkei genkai. Before she could get a clear connection, everything felt so sluggish, there was a sudden pressure on the back of her neck.
"None, of that, can't have you helping them," were the words she caught as she fell unconscious again.
-2 hours left-
They had been searching for a while and were unsuccessful.
"Are we close?"
Sasuke didn't answer as his eyes scanned the dense forest around them. For a moment he cursed his underdeveloped Sharingan. He swept over the area once more, and then he saw it. Dimly, in the distance, a distinct purple-blue chakra signature that could only belong to one person. He quickly tampered down his happiness as the dim light flickered out.
"I can see her, barely, but have an idea of where she is," he grabbed the blonde's collar as he tried to run past. "What are you doing? We can't just run in. You said so, yourself, we can't defeat a jonin. Do you remember anything we talked about?"
"I'm sorry, we are running out of time. We can't leave her."
"We aren't leaving her, we are going to make a plan right here. Also, lower your voice, we don't know if he has ears around," he patted himself on the back because Itachi told him about that. Well mostly because Itachi, when he was younger, would keep an eye on him, in admittedly creepy ways.
"How far is she?"
"About 1.5 km northeast. We are going to walk away a short distance, try to hide our signatures, plan, and approach." Naruto nodded his head as they turned to walk south.
-1h 30m left-
"We clear on the plan?" Sasuke asked as he wiped away the plan sketched in the dirt, leave no trace, though they probably shouldn't have made marks in the dirt, to begin with. He would make a note of this for future missions.
"Yep," though the blonde sounded unsure.
"Repeat it, idiot. I don't need you to ruin it because you get hotheaded."
"I go in and cause a distraction to lure him out, you go in and get Kagome"
"And if he doesn't' fall for it?"
"We try to kick his ass"
"Well, yeah, we'll distract with terrible combat, for a chance of a second opening. We don't have time for failure," Sasuke looked up at the sky as clouds floated past. "So make the first effort the best one."
"Agreed," they nodded in agreement.
"Alright, team out," Sasuke said, and he couldn't help, but feel pride in himself. He would make such a great leader. He got boneheaded Naruto to listen to him.

Obito looked up from his game of tic tac toe against himself, as he sensed one of Kakashi's brats approach. His eyebrow arched when he noticed it was only the blonde. He stood and cracked his back, he hated sitting in caves. So bad for the back, and he wasn't getting younger.
"Can I help you?" Obito asked with his hip cocked out.
"Alright fucker, you've had your time. I'm here to kick your ass!" Naruto yelled and pointed at him.
"Aren't there supposed to be two of you?" Obito looked around, yeah Sasuke was somewhere. But he'd entertain, whatever this was. He was just a pseudo enemy, this wasn't real.
"Nope, I don't need him to take you out," Naruto said as he cracked his knuckles.
"Okay, small fry bring it," Obito activated his Sharingan for fun.

Naruto stared at the intimidating Uchiha. He could feel sweat trickled down his neck. It was hard to stare down a Sharingan, but it wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last. If there was a jutsu that could stall, he knew it well. With sure hands, he started to embellish his hand signs, the jonin tenses up, probably uncertain with the technique.
"Sexy-no-Jutsu"
"What the hell is this?" Obito stared in shock at the abundance of naked women surrounding him. He felt overwhelmed, his face got hot, and his nose felt runny. He reached out to strike at the women. With quick punches, they were dispatched into smoke, leaving behind the blonde boy. "Okay, I'll give you props, never seen that before. But is that all you had? I've been sitting here for over an hour for that?"
"Ugh, that normally works longer," Naruto started to reach for his kunai pouch. He yelped when the front of his jacket was grabbed.
"Honestly, I don't," Obito stopped as he noticed movement on his blindside. "You sneaky bastards," he dropped the child. "Clever attempt," he grappled Sasuke before he could get a hold of the still unconscious Kagome. "I will give you that," he said as he tossed Sasuke towards the mouth of the cave. This gave him enough time to pick up the girl.
"You aren't taking her," Sasuke said as he and Naruto charged with punches and kicks, which
Obito dodged all of them, even with added weight. Though Sasuke does get close to hitting him out of desperation.
"Sasuke stop, you could hit her," Naruto cried, this made Sasuke pause, and gave the older Uchiha time to teleport away in that split second of hesitation.
"You obviously don't want her," Obito laughed maniacally to add effect.
"No!" the two screamed as the smoke cleared.
-1 hour left-
"It didn't work," Naruto said as he sat at the mouth of the cave.
"I know," Sasuke paced back and forth, his hands gripped tightly by his side.
"What do we do now?"
"We don't have time to think of another plan, and they've moved. We just need to pursue," with his one tomoe Sharingan spinning, "He's headed back towards the front of the training ground. "We hit him with everything we got, and try to get her away."
"Okay," Naruto didn't sound the least bit confident and tried to fend off the sickening images of Kagome being married off to Uchiha Obito.
"I got it," Sasuke snapped his finger, "Flood him with your shadow clones, and just hold him down or something. You don't need to waste effort and make them sexy."
"I can try," with that they jumped through the woods.
-50 min-
Sasuke's anger was mounting by the minute. This training ground was both massive and constricted. He was ready to kill his uncle. Even if they fail, the man will die, if not today, then the future. Sasuke would have his revenge to reclaim his love if he lost her. He was already making plans to destroy the man. He stopped on a tree branch, something felt off.
"What?" Naruto asked and stopped beside him.
"Shh...I can feel something," he looked around and saw strings and strings of chakra going in every direction, "He's trying to steer us the wrong way."
"Are we going the wrong way?"
"No, I can still see her faintly," Sasuke's eyes widened as the chakra became brighter, "She's waking up, we need to move."
-45 min-
"She's right ahead, dampen your signature," Sasuke said as they got closer, though he almost didn't follow his own order in his desperation to get to Kagome.
"Got it,"
They stop once more and a bit closer than he was comfortable with.
"What's the move, I'm still attacking with clones?"
"I gave it some thought. We don't engage him, we both run for Kagome, one of us is bound to get her,"
"And if, when he attacks?"
"We sacrifice whoever is closest to him, Kagome's safety is my priority. She can't be in his hands when the alarm goes off." Sasuke jumped off the branch with Naruto behind him.
-30 min-
Kagome started to open her eyes, but she was unable to move. Everything felt worse than the last time she woke up. It felt like nothing was grounding her. She could see Obito partially behind a tree, with his back to her, and from the faint trickle of water. Her face went red as she realized what he was doing. Before she could think more about her situation, she felt two people behind her. With her foggy mind, she was unable to tell who they were and hoped they weren't actual kidnappers. She doesn't know what they would want her for, though you very rarely know why people take things. She tried not to panic as she was picked up. Fear did start to set in, but a hand quickly covered her mouth.
"Don't make any noise," she kinda relaxed at hearing Sasuke's voice, but not by much. As her teammates scurried away with her. "Naruto, plan, change, make some clones, and go the other way," Sasuke said as he took Kagome solely in his arms.
"Got it," the blonde whispered back, "See ya on the other side," he gave a quick mock salute as he turned back to where they just picked her up.
She heard the summoning process as Sasuke whisked her away through the trees, and they burst into the familiar clearing of their genin test. He stopped in front of one of the logs protruding from the ground.
"You okay?" he asked as his eyes scanned over her for injuries. She still barely had the energy to nod her head."Did he drug you?" Sasuke touched her cheek, "Wait," he activated his Sharingan and looked deep into her eyes. Whatever block was over her felt lifted as her full sense of everything came back, with some of her movement. She looked up at him ready to say thank you when he leaned down to kiss her.
"Well you did it, congratua…oh," Kakashi stopped at looked at the lovebirds. "Awkward," Sasuke pulled away to glare at his teacher.
"You have some nerve," Sasuke growled, and Kagome stared at the back of his head confused.
"Hey, I can explain," Kakashi said with his hands raised, "As soon as," before he could finish Naruto burst into the clearing.
"I'm safe!" Naruto stopped near his team to kiss the ground and quickly wrap his arms around Kagome. "We made it."
"Yes, you did," Obito said as he walked out of the woods, "Sweet, they are done, can I go nap?"
"Yeah, sure, bye," Kakashi waved the man off and the two male genin watched in shock.
"Bye, don't forget the drinks you owe me." Obito didn't puff away, instead he simply walked away with his hands crossed behind his head.
"Wait, I'm confused, why do you owe him drinks. He kidnapped our teammate." Naruto said, his voice getting louder, "Hey! Get your ass back here, you sick perv!"
"No, Naruto this was a test. None of what he said was true, and Kagome was completely safe. Weren't you?" Kakashi asked as he looked lazily at Kagome.
"Yeah, I guess," she didn't' even know she was in danger to begin with. What happened?
"That to say congratulations, I will be nominating Team 7 for the Chunin Exams," Kakashi clapped his hands and the genin stared at him confused.
"WHAT?!" They all yelled in unison.
"Yeah, I was on the fence, because Kagome is the main leader of the group, and I didn't know how you two would do if she wasn't' there, and you did well. I will see you tomorrow to tell you more about the Chunin exams. The rest of the day is yours to do with what you will," Their sensei decided to disappear into smoke, leaving behind confused genin.
"This day has been weird, let's get some ramen," Kagome said as she struggled to her feet.
"Do you wanna know what that creepy Uchiha said about you?" Naruto asked, his face pinched in disgust.
"No, it's over, we passed. Ramen, now," Kagome grabbed Sasuke's hand. "I don't care who pays, let's go."
"I'm up for that, this day has been weird," Naruto said, as he walked on the side of Kagome where Sasuke wasn't
"Hn." Sasuke shoved one hand in his pocket and clutched one of Kagome's with his other. They were going to the chunin exams, and he would be able to further prove himself.
Alright, so happy that this is done. I feel really bad, because I actually finished this sometime last month, and I didn't feel like editing it.
