This Night

Chapter 167

Author's Note: Everyone is vying for attention! Greedy little people aren't they? Maybe I can start getting more then one people in the chapter but I'm not promising! Remember Mitch is being raised by Daryl, so a bit of Dixon attitude is there. Reviews motivate me!

Mitch, Tara and Glenn's POV:

Mitch looked at the three new people who came out of the truck. "He's not responding, Tara. Up until yesterday, he was close to death due to a flu."

The red haired man looked at the two of them then at Glenn. "He contagious?"

Mitch looked at him. "No, we're better."

"Who are you?" Tara asked.

Abe walked over and went to pick up Glenn. "We're the people who are gonna stop this thing."

"Stay away from him!" Mitch said as he stood up.

"Abe…" the woman with the pigtails said.

"Look kid, we're wasting time," the red head said as he went to pick up Glenn again.

"I said stay away from him!" Mitch said as he stomped on the man's foot.

"Son of a Dick….kid," the man said as he stepped forward and picked Mitch.

"Put him down!" Tara told him.

The red haired man put Mitch in the back of the truck. "Listen kid, I don't want to hurt you or your friends. But I've got a mission and that's to get Eugene here to Washington. Nothing and nobody is going to stop us. You and your friends just signed up to help," he said as he went back over to Glenn.

"What's in Washington?" Tara asked.

"The cure to end this thing," the other man said.

"He speaks," Mitch said with a roll of his eyes. "Hate to tell you poindexter, there is no cure. I was at the CDC."

"You got a smart mouth on you for a kid," the red hair man said as he put Glenn in the back of the truck. "That's Eugene, and our mission is to get him to Washington so he can cure this thing."

Mitch looked at him. "That's your mission, not ours. Our mission is to find our family, not on some fool errand to find a cure that doesn't exist."

"It's not a cure, really, it's reversing the effects of this," Eugene explained.

Mitch rolled his eyes. "Look Einstein, if doctors' at CDC couldn't find a cure for this, I'm not having much faith in you."

The red haired man looked at him. "Watch your mouth kid. You're more then welcome to get out right here, let these things get you. Or shut up and let's get this show on the road."

Tara put the bag he was carrying in the truck. "We'll go, until Glenn wakes up," she said as she looked at Mitch.

"Fine, but I don't like you," Mitch told the red headed man.

"Names Abe, and I aint fond of you right at the minute either," Abe grumbled as he got into the front of the cab.

The woman with the pigtails gave Mitch a grin. "He's just mad that you caught him off guard. I'm Rosita," she said as she got in the cab.

"Glenn's gonna be ticked off when he wakes up," Mitch informed Tara.

"Yeah, I know. But we don't have much choice right now," Tara told him. "Why don't you try to get some rest?" she suggested.

Summer, Joey, Carol, Tyreese, Lizzie and Molly's POV:

Joey touched Summer's forehead. "We're going to have to stop for the night soon, change this bandage."

"Is her fever getting worse?" Molly asked.

"Is she going to turn?" Lizzie asked as she adjusted Judith on her hip.

Joey glared at Lizzie. "Her fever's broken but she can't walk much more."

"We covered a lot of ground today," Tyreese stated.

Carol nodded as they walked through a grove of peaches and walnuts. "There's a house, we'll check it out. Can you hang in for a little bit longer Summer?" she asked.

"Got no other choice," Summer responded.

"You sound like your uncle's there," Tyreese told her. "You girls stay out here, the three of us will go check it out."

Joey helped Summer to the bench. "Come here, Judy, keep big sister company."

"Molly, Lizzie both of you have your knives out and ready," Carol instructed.

"Yes ma'am," both answered.

Joey squeezed Summer's shoulder as he joined Tyreese and Carol on the porch.

Lizzie sat down beside Summer on the bench and looked at the graves, including one with a pair of bronzed baby booties. "They're going to have to kill them, if they find any."

Summer took a breath as she rocked Judith. She knew Lizzie was a child, a mentally unstable child, but still a child. "Lizzie, they're already dead, and they are a danger to us."

"I can hear them," Lizzie simply stated. "No one understands them," she said as she started to get upset.

Molly looked at Summer then at Lizzie. "What does Mika always tell you, Lizzie? Look at the flowers. It's alright."

Summer squeezed Lizzie's shoulder. "Yeah, that's right, Lizzie, just look at the flowers. Take a deep breath."

Joey came back out. "It's all clear. Looks like the stove is gas, got a creek out back. We can let you rest up a bit," he said as he helped Summer stand. He looked at her and then looked at Lizzie and Molly, who went inside. "Everything alright?"

"Yeah, just peachy. Lizzie thinks she can hear the walkers'," Summer said as she adjusted Judith. "Let's keep her away from Ladybug as much as possible."

Joey nodded as he kissed her. "We haven't finished our conversation from yesterday," he pointed out.

"You mean the one where you told me your middle name?" Summer teased.

"I remember telling you something else," Joey told her.

"Hey you two coming in? We need to check that bandage, get you off that leg," Carol told them from the porch.

Joey sighed. "Yeah we're coming in, Carol," he answered as he looked at Summer.

Summer and Joey's POV:

Joey leaned on the bedroom door. "How's the patient?"

Carol looked up. "We're going to have to change the bandage a little more often. I was thinking about putting that playpen in here, so Judith can be close to you."

"She can sleep with me," Summer said.

Carol nodded as she got up. "Don't keep her up to long, she needs to rest while she can."

Joey nodded. "I wasn't planning on it. I'll sleep in the chair in here, I have the midnight watch," he said as Carol walked out. "So how are you doing? Truthfully?" he asked as he sat on the edge of the bed.

"It hurts, but just got to work through it. To many people are relying on us," Summer stated.

Joey shook his head. "You know that's the problem with you Dixon's. You care to much about others, that you don't think about yourselves. You are damn lucky that this isn't worse. You are damn lucky that we ran into Carol and she could get that bullet out and bandage it."

"You mean we're lucky Carol didn't just abandon me like dad and I did to her," Summer said as she lowered her voice.

"I didn't say that. You had every right to do what you did. I'm on your side, no matter what," Joey said as he kissed her. "But I could have lost you yesterday. Plus, I was worried about that fever, it's still coming and going. I seriously thought I was going to lose you."

"I'm to stubborn for that," Summer insisted. "By the way, Ditto."

"Ditto?" Joey asked as he raised his eyebrow.

"Yeah, ditto to the I love you. You know, it can be our key word," Summer said with a grin.

"You are something else," Joey said as he kissed her and ran his hand through her hair.

"They are going to want to stay," Summer said softly.

"Who?" Joey asked.

"Carol and Tyreese, they're going to want to stay here while it's safe for Judy, Lizzie and Molly. It's a liability to have the three of them out on the road, Lizzie freakin' thinks she can train them like some kind of dog, Molly is scared of her shadow and Judy is just a baby. It makes sense, if they want. But as soon as I get better, I'm leaving," Summer told him.

"You aren't going alone," Joey told her.

"I was hoping you'd say that," Summer said.

"Jes used to say, you never leave a man behind. From what I tell, we've got a lot of men and women to find," Joey informed her.

"You love Jes like a mom huh?" Summer asked.

"Like an older annoying sister, that knows a whole lot about surviving in this world on her own. Funny thing is, I don't know her because she's so closed off," Joey told her. "It's a different closed off then Michonne. Michonne lets herself get close to people, like you and Carl, your mom, but Jes…she's quiet, she listens, but no one is more important then the other person," he told her. "She doesn't even know how much I care, not that I haven't told her, I don't think she thinks she deserves it," he said.

"Well I guess when we see her again, you'll just have to tell her," Summer said with a grin.
