Mitch, Glenn and Tara's POV:
Tara glanced over at Mitch who hadn't said a word in over an hour. "So how long have you known Glenn?"
"Since right after this started, we were at a quarry outside Atlanta," Mitch answered.
"Did your parents….you know…get bit?" Tara asked.
Mitch shrugged. "My mom died when I was three, my dad took off when all this happened, I just assume he's dead. Left my brother Luke and I alone, our half brother Kaden, packed us up took us with him. He got bit at the quarry. We were on a highway, big heard of walkers' came, we hid under cars. My brother got scared when they came close, he ran. Rick and Summer, they ran after him. Rick and Summer got him, but they had to distract the walkers' away from him. So they told him to stay put, but he must have gotten scared cause they didn't find him. Everyone told me that we'd find him, that they wouldn't give up. I kinda knew he was gone. Carl got shot, we wound up on Hershel's farm," he said as he glanced at her. "Everyone looked while Carl was recovering, especially Daryl. We found out Hershel was keeping walkers' in the barn. He thought that they were just sick. One of the group, wouldn't wait for Rick to handle it. He cut the lock off, all these walkers' came out..the last one was Luke."
"I'm sorry…." Tara said.
"They could have just left me, you know? I was the youngest, no family, no ties to anyone. All those months after the farm fell, they could have just left me, but they didn't. Daryl said once I was an honorary Dixon, and Dixon's don't abandon family. Glenn, Rick, Daryl and I we're the Atlanta boys. Glenn and I use it mostly. Rick and Daryl, they're out there, if anyone survived this, it's this group, this family. And this idiot," he said as he pointed to the drive, "just needs to stop."
"We passed the bus, you saw it," Tara told him.
"Yes, I know that they were dead, but not everyone was on that bus. Jewel, the pregnant woman, she's resourceful, and I sure the heck didn't see a pregnant dead walker. Trust me I looked. They were good men and women, everyone of them," Mitch said as he cast her another look.
"Look kiddo, I'm sorry, really am," Tara answered.
"It doesn't matter what you did then, it's what you do now, from this moment forward. You're a good person Tara, there's not many of us out there that are anymore, and those of us who are, well we got to stick together," Mitch told her.
Tara held her hand up for a fist bump. "Come on, you have to know what this is?"
Mitch arched an eyebrow as he raised his hand to give her a fist bump. "You're weird," he told her.
"Well I take that as a compliment coming from you kiddo," Tara said. "I really didn't know Brian was capable of something like that."
"We had our guard down, we were sick, we lost a lot of people. Jes and Michonne, they had to stop looking for him, we had to take guards off the watch tower. He would have never got close, we would have taken him out before any of this happened," Mitch informed her.
"We?" Tara asked.
Mitch looked at her. "We, all of us. We don't do things alone, that's why we are alive. We do things in a selfish manner, like the Governor, we end up dead. Joey and Rick saw something in you, that's why both of them tried to warn you," he said as he saw Glenn move. "Glenn! Hey come on, that's it."
Glenn tried to sit up. "Where are we?"
"Hey easy, drink some water," Tara told him.
"I tried to stop him, stepped on his foot and everything, but he just picked me up and put me in the truck. I couldn't stop him," Mitch explained.
"Hey it's OK. How long have I been out?" Glenn asked as he sat up.
"About three hours," Tara said.
"Did we pass the bus? What did you see?" Glenn asked.
"Yeah, they were all dead," Tara answered. "The kid almost jumped out of the truck, I had to literally pull him back."
"How long since we pass it?" Glenn asked.
"About three hours," Tara answered.
Glenn tapped on the window. "Hey stop the truck! Numbnuts stop the truck! Stop the truck! Stop the truck!"
Abe gave them the finger and kept driving.
Mitch grabbed the bat. "She wouldn't let me use it. Can I please?" he asked with a grin.
"I'd get down if I was you," Glenn told Tara as he nodded to Mitch.
Mitch grinned as he hit the window with the baseball bat, causing the people in front to duck and Abe to stop.
"Come on it's time to go," Glenn told Mitch as he climbed out of the truck.
"What the hell was that? You trying to get us all killed? Where the hell are you going?" Abe asked. "And you kid, seriously put a check on the attitude."
"I will when you stop being an ass," Mitch said as he grabbed his bag.
"If you were my kid…" Abe said.
"Well I'm not, thank God. Let's go find our family," Mitch told Glenn.
"We got to go," Glenn told them as they started to walk away.
"Hey hold up! I don't know what your lady friend and the kid has told you about the special nature of the mission we are on. But this shit is a time sensitive and we're already behind schedule. So I need you turn your ass around and get back in the truck," Abraham told them.
"We got to go," Mitch told him.
"It seems like the three of you been playing close enough attention to the hell on Earth we've been living in," Abe said.
"Do you just like hearing yourself talk?" Mitch asked as he caught up to Glenn with Tara walking behind them.
Abraham glared a hole in Mitch's back but continued. "So let me tell you how you avoid being another dead prick. You find strong, like minded comrades, and you stay stuck together like wet on water. We need people. The more the better. We need each other partner. Even with all that gear the two of you have, you won't last a night, not by yourselves," he said.
"We'll take our chances," Glenn told him.
"I'm going to insist that you hold the hell up. All right, believe it or not, the fate of the entire human race might depend on it," Abe told them.
Glenn and Mitch both turned around. "Are you going to try and say this guy has the way to end this again? Didn't buy it the first time."
"Who the hell is this guy?" Glenn asked.
"I'm Sgt. Abraham Ford, and these are my companions, Rosita Espinosa and Dr. Eugene Porter," he introduced. We're on a mission to get Eugene to Washington, DC. Eugene's a scientist, and he knows exactly what caused this mess."
"So what the hell happened?" Glenn asked.
"It's classified," Eugene said.
"Of course it is," Mitch mumbled.
"He's been talking to muckety mucks in Washington on his satellite phone. The past couple weeks no body's been picking up on the other end. We saw how you handled the corpses back there, we could use your help," Abraham said.
Tara looked at them. "I'm sorry. I had to get us off the road. You were passed out, we were out of bullets. I know how to get back , I've been writing it down, every turn. Mitch has paid attention. I can get you back. Okay?"
"That's where she would go to find me, that's where I'm going," Glenn said.
"Jewel got out, there wasn't a pregnant walker on the road. Trust me I looked, almost jumped out of the truck," Mitch told him.
"We're going," Glenn assured him.
"Look Tara told us what went down. There is zero chance you will ever find your wife again. Alive or dead. And this Jewel who was pregnant? Seriously do you think she could survive this? Out here?" Abe asked.
Mitch looked at Eugene. "What are there names?"
Eugene looked at him. "Names? Who?"
"The people you are talking to in Washington. They got names right?" Mitch asked.
"That's classified," Eugene responded.
"Rick, Jewel, Maggie, Beth, Summer, Daryl, Mar, Carl, Carol, Tyreese, Sasha, Lexi, Judy, Lizzie, Molly, Mika, Axel, Jes, Merle, Bob, Joey, Michonne and Ronnie. Those are the names of some of the people we are looking for. They are not some nameless people on a side of the radio. They are living, breathing people. You don't know shit about them," Mitch said to Abraham. "Merle, he was handcuffed and left on a roof top in Atlanta, he was supposed to be dead, he cut off his own hand to survive. Carl was shot, shouldn't have survived, but we found Hershel, Maggie and Beth. Hershel was a vet, and saved him. We found Mar with a gun shot wound, so weak, and could barley hold a gun and she survived. Jewel was supposed to be walker bait thanks to the Governor, but Jes brought her back to us. Summer, anything that she can trip over, or a walker popping out at her in the most unusual of places, it finds her but she's still here. You smile as you kill walkers? She insults them. Bob was the only survivor of two groups, and he was out there alone for weeks and months Rick and Jewel they met at the start of this thing, in Atlanta. They blended family, included us all. You would be lucky to be half a man Rick Grimes is, half the man Glenn is, or Daryl. I am not turning my back on my family just cause you say this one can find an end of this, No one would survive that? Hello, we survived it. Just got to have a little bit of hope and faith," Mitch told them. "Now if you don't mind, we got family to find," "Unless you would like to say something else just to hear yourself talking?" he asked.
Glenn gave a small smile. "Yeah everything he just said," as he turned to go.
Tara nodded. "I'm going to have a little faith."
