This Night
Chapter 179
Author's Note: The other characters are fussing at me, so I guess I need to show what is going on with one of them before they start rioting in my head. I'm pretty sure that isn't a good thing, so I'd rather not try it out. I had a reviewer say that there were minor problems with people not saying the right things, and having the wrong actions. I appreciate every little help I can get. It makes me a better writer. I am reading scripts off line (without who says what and who does what) and I have to go by memory of who said it and who didn't. Plus I have so many OC'S (which I didn't plan on they just keep talking and showing up) that sometimes it does change things. Please review it helps a lot.
Rick and Mar's POV:
Mar felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up as she heard the door open. She glanced at the watch she had on and knew it wasn't Michonne, Carl, or Lexi yet. She took a breath as she grabbed her bag that was hanging over the chair and ran to the room where Rick was. "Rick, we've got company," she whispered as she went over to the bed.
Rick's eyes immediately snapped opened as he heard voices and then looked at her. He reached for the watch that was on the nightstand and rolled over to the other side of the bed. "Get under there. Don't move," he told her.
"Rickā¦" Mar whispered as she heard the voices get closer.
"Do it," Rick whispered.
"Ya all stay down there," a mans voice said.
Mar took a breath and slipped under the bed and took a breath as she watched Rick's feet. She saw him go to the door then back over as he grabbed the book on the bed and slid under the bed. Mar turned sideways so he could fit better. She watched him turn his head and go to slide back from under the bed to get something but moved back under as they saw a man walk past the door.
Rick mouthed 'It'll be alright," to her as he grabbed the water bottle and went back under the bed. He could feel her shaking next to him, more then he was. They both watched as a man entered the bedroom and took a look around the room. He stopped several times in front of the bed and kept moving around. Rick grabbed Carol's watch out of his pocket and looked at hit. He shared a meaningful look with Mar who clasped her hand over his hand to make it stop shaking, of course it didn't help. Rick took a breath as the man laid down on the bed and both him and Mar seemed to sink into the floor.
Mar glanced up at the bed frame as the man made himself comfortable and watched as Rick started to slide from underneath the bed. She grabbed him back quickly as another man started to approach.
"Comfy?" the second man asked as he entered the room.
"You waking me up to see if I'm comfortable?" the man on the bed asked.
Mar bit her lip to keep from letting a whimper out. She felt Rick give her hand a squeeze in support.
"I want to lay down," the second man told the first.
"There's two other bedrooms up here to choose," the first man said.
"Them's kids beds. I want this one," the man who was standing said.
"It's claimed," the man on the bed said.
"I didn't hear it," the other man said. "You're going to have to lay claim somewhere else," he said.
Mar glanced up as the bed popped up in original form as the man got up and both started to fight. Both her and Rick moved there heads to search for a way out. She practically jumped when the man who had been laying on the bed fell on the floor. Both her and Rick met the mans eyes when he looked over at them.
"Len stop," the man gasped as he gasped for breath. "Stop Len!"
"Hell no," the other man said.
Mar reached in the hem of her pants and pulled out the knife she carried, getting ready to take action. She glanced at Rick as they waited.
"My bed now Jackoff," they heard the man say as the other man passed out. They both looked up as the man presumably named Len laid on the bed with a foot hanging off of it.
Rick held up his hand at her and took a breath. He motioned for her to go first from moving out from under the bed.
Mar took a breath as she moved quickly only pausing to make sure she didn't hit the man's foot. She took a breath as she bent down beside the man who had fell and took his gun off him. She went over and helped Rick straighten up. They both looked at the man who was asleep on the bed, Mar fingering her knife.
"Tony, Len get your asses down here!" they heard a third man say.
Rick pushed Mar out of the bedroom door and quickly in the hallway, placing her behind him. Mar glanced backward and pulled on his shirt to pull him into a smaller bedroom. They both walked backward into the room and flinched as they heard the sound of a ball or something being bounced. Rick pulled her into a connecting bedroom as they both heard the man come in.
"Yo, you hear me?" the third man asked as he threw things on the ground.
Rick pushed Mar against the wall, once again placing himself in front of her. They both watched as the man bounced a tennis ball against the window, but didn't come into the room. They both let out the breath they were holding as they listened to the mans footsteps retreat. Both of them moved quickly and started to try the windows in the room.
"Damn it," Rick murmured under his breath as they both tried several windows.
"Claim, claim, claim!" they heard another voice say from downstairs.
"Shut the hell up, I'm trying to sleep in here," the man Len yelled down.
Mar handed Rick the gun she had took off the unconscious man and held up two fingers as to tell him only two bullets. They both went back into the other bedroom, and Rick grabbed a trophy off the shelf.
"There's a woman shacking up in here!" the other man called from downstairs.
"Say what?" Len asked.
Mar tightened the grip on her knife and glanced at Rick.
"Come on down!" the other man said.
"Is she hot?" Len asked.
"Don't grab your pecker just yet. She's not here, found a shirt," the man said as him and the man who was bouncing the ball came out of the bedroom.
"You found a shirt?" the man who had the tennis ball asked.
"Smells good," the man from downstairs said.
Mar stood close to Rick as he peered out the door then ducked back in as the men went downstairs.
"She could be miles away by now," the man with the tennis ball said.
"Why'd she go to all the trouble of washing a shirt when she's just gonna ditch it?" the man asked. "She'll be back."
"I call first when she gets here," the man they knew as Len said.
Mar felt her whole body go tense, which Rick noticed. "Stay behind me," he whispered to which she nodded.
"We don't know who else she got with her. We'll have to be prepared for anything," the man with the tennis ball said. "Len, take the side room."
Rick started to make it to the bedroom they were first in to grab the rifle laying on the bed but quickly darted back out as he heard the man named Len come back up.
"Hold on let me get a gun," he said.
Mar and Rick both ducked into a bathroom and closed the door behind them.
"Rick," Mar whispered as she saw the man on the toilet first.
Rick turned and didn't give the man a chance to react before he punched him in the gut with the trophy. Mar took a breath as she watched the man tried to reach for the gun on the counter but Rick grabbed it first. He put the strap of the gun around the man's throat and started strangling him. The man fought against him and when Rick managed to move him against the wall again, Mar moved in front of him and stuck the knife in his head.
"You alright?" Mar asked in a whisper.
Rick took a breath as he got up on one knee and pointed the gun at the door. "Grab anything we can use in here," he whispered as he grabbed the pair of scissors off the counter and went to the window.
Mar nodded as she glanced back ward at the door and found a makeup bag under the sink and emptied it and started putting things in it.
Rick grabbed a coat off the shower curtain door and threw it out the window. "Crack the door," he whispered at Mar.
Mar nodded and did it. She got up and went over to the window.
"Ladies first," Rick told her as she climbed out the window. She watched as he came out the window. He handed her the other gun and she placed it in her belt as he put on the coat. He glanced down at the gutter and took a breath.
"I'm going to have to insist the injured man goes first, you're to heavy for me to catch," Mar whispered as she watched him. She took a breath as she watched him grimace in pain with his injured hand. She glanced back over her shoulder at the window as he dropped to the ground.
"Come on," Rick whispered up to her.
Mar dropped the make up kit she had filled and dropped to the ground. Mar followed Rick as they ran around the house. She took a breath as she heard the man come out on the front porch. "Shit," she mouthed as he spit something off the porch near Rick. She glanced at Rick then up and pointed at Michonne, Lexi, and Carl coming.
Rick took a breath as he steadied the gun then looked at her. "I'll take him, you run," he mouthed.
"I'm not leaving you," Mar whispered. "Jewel would kill me. We do this together," she mouthed back.
Rick took a breath and knew better then to argue with her. He nodded and put his hand up by the porch railing ready to stand up when he heard gun shots that caused the man to go inside.
"Stop her!" they heard a man yell from inside.
Rick and Mar both kept low to the ground and started running. "GO!" he told Michonne, Lexi and Carl.
"Head for the railroad tracks," Mar said as they ran. They didn't stop running until they got there.
"What happened back there?" Lexi asked as she caught her breath.
"Six or seven men, we had to kill one," Rick said.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't save your favorite shirt, Michonne," Mar said as she tried to lighten the mood.
"I can replace a shirt, can't replace the two of you," Michonne told them.
Rick nodded. "You three go ahead, we'll be right behind you."
Michonne nodded as she walked with the two teenagers.
"You alright?" Rick asked her.
"Got to be," Mar answered.
Rick shook his head. "You've been hanging around Daryl to long. I saw it on your face, when they said they found the shirt, when we were running."
"It was a tense situation, Rick. You were shaking as much as I was," Mar pointed out.
"Yeah, it was," Rick admitted. "But you know what I'm talking about."
"It's the way the world is now, Rick. I don't like it, anymore then you do. I'm not the same person that you found in that clinic, so weak that I couldn't even end it. But yeah, the voices, what they were saying, I was scared. Not just for me, but Lexi and Michonne, you, Carl. Men like that, they have no souls, they are worse then the Governor. They don't pretend to be nice, they take what they want, do what they want, and don't give a damn who they destroy in the process. I'm not afraid to say that I was afraid we wouldn't make it out of there, but we did. We're still standing, because we helped each other. Only way to survive in this world," Mar told him.
"Dad! Mar! Come look at this," Carl called back to them.
Rick walked over with Mar and put down the bag he was carrying and read it. He glanced at the others as he started unwrapping his hand.
"What do you think?" Michonne asked.
Rick glanced at them. "Let's go," he said. "Let's go," he repeated more to himself then to them. He knew the rest of them were having the same thoughts that he was having. That Jewel, Daryl, Mitch, Summer, the rest of the family might be at this Sanctuary.
Author's Note: Sorry this chapter is so massive! But Rick's on his way to Terminus and to Jewel and baby Hope! Review.
