True Love?

The turtles, Master Splinter and their human friends were all sitting together in the pit sharing a quiet dinner. They had just experienced a difficult mission, and everyone was feeling down. April sighs and looks up slightly only to see Michelangelo sending her a look.

'No' She communicates back through a look, 'Now is not the right time'

"Please?" Mikey mouths back. April looks over at the family, the fact they haven't noticed her and Mikey's moment shows how down they were. Her gaze hovered on Casey and Donnie who were, for once, sitting shoulder to shoulder.

April looks at Mikey once more and rolls her eyes at his puppy-dog look.

"Hey guys" She announces as she stands up before her friend and surrogate family. "Mikey and I have an announcement"

Mikey leaps up and rushes to her side as the family watch in surprise.

"You do?" Leo asks suspiciously.

"You mean it?" Mikey checks with April first, she nods with a good-natured smile. "Awesome!"

"Out with it then" Raphael pushes impatiently.

"April and I" Mike begins, "Are in a relationship"

Shocked silence falls over the family. Mikey and April share a look, maybe now really wasn't the time. They look back at the family to realise everyone is looking at Don and Casey. The two boys seem to share a look of their own.

"Congratulations" Donnie nods as he looks away from Casey, "Nice one little bro"

"R-Really?" Mikey gapes. "You mean that Donnie?"

"Of course," Donnie smiles gently but Mikey can't look straight at him.

"Yeah…" Casey stands up awkwardly. "You two go well together… congrats"

The other members of the family hug April and Mikey as Casey and Donnie step away slightly and face each other.

"Truce?" Casey asks quietly, "Not much to fight over anymore"

"Yeah, truce" Donnie agrees as they shake hands. "I'm going to be happy for Mikey even if it does hurt a little… I love my little brother too much to start anything over this"

"It does hurt though" Casey agrees as they both look over at the scene, "I mean Mikey knew about you at least, right?"

"Of course, he did… He knew about your feelings too" Donnie crosses his arms sadly, "We didn't exactly handle them very well did we?"

Casey nods, not trusting himself to speak. The two look at each other and finally understand. A friendship had finally formed between the two over this heartbreak.

"Donnie? Casey?" Mikey interrupts, the two mentioned face the family now sadly staring at them.

"Yeah Mike?" Don asks gently.

"E-Everything ok?" Mikey shifts timidly. Donnie and Casey share another knowing look.

"Yeah bro" Don smiles,

"We're just fine" Casey adds unconvincingly.

"It has been a long night" Master Splinter sighs after a moment of silence, "I think it is time we retired for now"

Everyone seemed to agree. April and Mikey share a smirk before April leaves to go home. Casey hesitates as he goes to follow her, he looks back at Donnie one more time.

"Hey um… Can you text me tomorrow?" He asks awkwardly. Donatello nods in surprise and Casey, now satisfied, hurries out of the lair.

"Wh-What-" Raph stumbles as he stares over at Donnie.

"Night" Donnie nods to his family before hurrying to bed. The remaining family round on Michelangelo.

"Mikey! What the heck!?" Leo scolds. "Since when have you had a thing for April? Why would you go out with her when you know Donnie likes her!?"

"That's cold" Raph agrees, "I never thought you'd do something like that bro"

Mikey shrugs before disappearing to his room.

"I believe my sons… that something is going on. Something we do not know about just yet" Splinter muses before going to bed thoughtfully. The remaining big brothers share a look one more time before going to their respective rooms.

The next morning was awkward to say the least. The family trained together in silence, barely looking at one another until finished.

"I'm heading out" Donnie calls as he leaves the lair, not waiting for anyone to acknowledge his call.

"Wait!" Mikey rushes to the turnstiles before stopping and pulling out his phone.

Meanwhile Donatello joined a figure on the edge of a rooftop, they stood together quietly just watching the morning bustle.

"You ok?" Donnie asks but the figure doesn't respond, "Casey?"

"No" Casey admits, "But also yeah?"

Donatello stays silent waiting for his friend to explain.

"I really believed April and I would get together"

"I thought so too" Donnie agrees, Casey looks at him in surprise. "I'm not an idiot Casey, I know she'd be better off with a human partner… I just always kinda hoped maybe it would work out between us though"

"It just…" Casey grunts in frustration, "It just feels so… unfair and stupid! You and me have been at each other's throats for so long over this"

"We were foolish to let it get in the way of our friendship" Donatello sighs, "I'm sorry Casey"

"No way D! I'm the one who should be sorry! I've been a total jerk!" Casey turns to face Donatello who only laughs in response.

"I'm glad our feud is over" He smiles. Casey grins.

"Me too"

Together they return to the lair chatting all the way only to pause when they walk in. April and Mikey were standing together in front of the family once again.

"Donnie!" Mikey grins when he sees his brother. Don and Casey sit down with the others.

"What's going on?" They ask at the same time before smirking at each other, the others gape at them.

"Maybe we should just stick with it" Mikey whispers loudly to April.

"Mikey!" She hushes before clearing her throat. "Actually guys… we have something to admit"

The family look at the two expectantly.

"PRANKED YA!" Mikey cheers.

"WHAT!?" Donnie and Casey leap up.

"Mikey's been wanting to pull this prank for a while, and everyone was so sad last night we decided to go through with it" April admits guiltily. "Sorry guys"

Before anyone can say anything Donnie and Casey scoop April and Mikey into a big hug.

"Thank you!" They repeat over and over as April and Mikey struggle against their hold.

Master Splinter sighs and shakes his head before leaving for the dojo, he knew something didn't add up. Leo and Raph however were laughing and shaking their heads, they couldn't believe they fell for it!

After an hour or so April and Casey leave the lair in much higher spirits leaving the brothers to relax in the pit together.

"Mikey" Leo scolds with a slight smirk, "You really shouldn't have played that prank"

"I know" Mikey agrees quietly, "I'm really sorry for tricking you Donnie, I didn't mean to hurt you"

Donnie throws his arm around Mikey and pulls him closer.

"It's no big deal Mike" He chuckles, "It made Casey and I realise we were being dumb over our crushes. It sucked but it helped us out"

"It was really nice of you to let me have her though D" Mikey smiles in return, genuinely impressed with how his brother handled the news.

"Yeah Donnie" Raph smirks. "It's almost like you don't love April as much as you pretend to"

Donnie glares at Raphael who only smirks in return.

"Enough" Leo laughs, "It's over now anyway"

The brothers smile at one another before turning on their TV, they watched cartoons together until patrol.
