Just thought this could be fun to play around with. Enjoy x

Renaissance

Hamato Yoshi blinked lazily at the wall before him, this was the fifth night since his mutation where he was woken up by a nightmare. He felt exhausted, numb…

Tears sprung to the young man's eyes.

He felt as if he were cursed, how could so many terrible things happen to one man?

First, he falls out with a man who is like a brother to him, then he's forced to fight him, then his home is burnt down, his family killed, and he is forced to leave the only country that could ever feel like home! And to top it all off only a few weeks after arriving in New York and trying to get some pets he's turned into a monster along with said pets.

What did he do to deserve this?

He looked over at the four bundles and frowned.

What a mess.

He'd never felt so low in all his life; he didn't know what to do. Part of him just wanted to leave these little freaks and hide away until he died but a bigger part of him knew these infants needed him.

Somehow, that was enough.

The little turtles yawn, they seemed to have felt him staring at them. The eldest of the four crawls in front of the other three and sits like a protective barrier, gazing straight at the large rat.

The angrier baby was being poked and prodded by the freckled one, he looked like he was about to hurt his brother. Meanwhile the fourth was staring at the lantern Yoshi had found yesterday, he hadn't realised it was broken, he chuckled as the boy reached towards it and clenched his fists while whining.

"You should not play with that" Yoshi hushed the young terrapin, he reached over and still passed the lantern over. The baby shakes it gleefully before sticking his tiny arm into it and moving something.

The old water tower exploded with the bright light scaring the other babies.

"How?" Yoshi gasped as he took the lantern from the child, "How did you fix it?"

The baby giggles in glee before crying when the temperamental baby hits him.

"Now now" Yoshi scolds, "He didn't mean to frighten you"

The eldest hugs the genius in an attempt to comfort him while freckles pushed angry over.

Yoshi sighed and lifted all four babies into his arms.

"Eldest, genius, angry and freckles" He murmured before shaking his head. "Those are not names… Unfortunately, I'm not the best at naming children…"

He looked them over, they seemed to be listening.

"You see, I wanted to name my daughter Karai… Both Saki and I thought it was a fitting name, but my wife did not agree, she said Miwa was a much better name… She was right of course" Yoshi felt tears burn his eyes, "She was always right…"

He shook his head and smiled at the babies before placing them in his lap, he reached over to his small collection of books and started searching through them.

"I could name you after fairy tale characters?" He frowned before shaking his head. "No… That will not do"

He shoved the children's book away before reaching for the next.

"Hmmm… Roman emperors? English kings?" He frowned at the history book, looked at the boys and shook his head once more.

Freckles squeals as he reaches for the book of art history.

"You like this one?" He asks with a smile, "I do too, the renaissance is my favourite art period"

He flicks through the book.

"I've always enjoyed the concept of 'Rebirth'… I suppose that is what we are going through now with our new lives" Yoshi patted the youngest on the head causing the other three to shuffle closer, they also wanted his attention.

He flicked through more pages. He pauses at the list of European Artists

"Donatello?" He tries as he looks down at the babies, Genius giggles at the name. "Very well… You are now Donatello"

Said turtle giggles again, Yoshi can't help but join in.

"I am glad you are pleased, let us get names for your brothers"

Donatello grabs the book and pulls himself up onto his legs to look over but promptly falls back onto the eldest.

Yoshi flicks through more pages.

"Ah here are the most well-known artists" He nods happily, "Leonardo Da Vinci"

Eldest grabs his sleeve and tugs.

"Do you like Leonardo?" Yoshi asks, the boy tugs the sleeve again. "Very well, you are now Leonardo"

The other two unnamed turtles start fussing.

"Michelangelo" Splinter reads out, freckles pushes angry and tries to get closer to the book. "Yes… Michelangelo sounds like a good name"

The last unnamed turtle begins to sniffle, Yoshi uses one arm to pull him closer so he can see the book.

"Last but certainly not least, you need a strong name to match your personality" Yoshi nodded but the turtle seemed to know which one he wanted as he hit the page. "Raphael? Yes… I agree"

He placed the turtle down and looked over the four.

"Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo" He smiles. "I can already tell you four are very special… I believe that you will do great things together in the years to come"

The four babies play with each other as their adopted father watches over them.

"Yes… there will be burdens to bear and many hardships to face… but you four will be legendary, even if the humans do not know it… But do not worry about all that just yet my children for you have much to learn and a lot of growing up to do yet…" Yoshi smiles gently. "This is our rebirth… Our renaissance. Our Family"

The babies take no notice of their father as they continue playing with each other, blissfully unaware of what their future holds as they grow up, side by side.

As a Family.
