The Genie
The four brothers stared down at the strange silver lamp, it sat unremarkably on Donatello's desk. They had been out walking around the sewers due to being unable to go topside at the moment, Raphael was getting real sick of Shredder ruining their fun, when they saw something glinting under a pile of… y'know.
Donatello cleaned it up and now the four just stared.
"Remind me again why we brought home this gross piece of garbage?" Raph sighed.
"It looked valuable" Donnie shrugged, "Its design is very impressive"
"Kinda looks like the lamp from Aladdin" Mikey grinned suddenly. "Let's rub it and see if a genie comes out!"
"Don't be silly" Leo rolled his eyes, "There's no such thing as genies"
"I wish there were" Raph grumbled, "Maybe then we could end this whole Shredder thing"
Donnie picked the lamp up carefully and noticed a scratch on one of the sides.
"Aww man, it's damaged" He moaned, "That's gonna knock the price down"
"How were we supposed to sell it anyway?" Raph raised an eye ridge.
"Duh" Donnie elbowed his brother, "April would do it and we'd split the money"
He ran a thumb over the scratch, the lamp shook in his hand before calming down.
"Woah!" Mikey's eyes widened as the brothers stepped back. "Did you see that!? It's a genie!"
"It's not a genie" Donnie scoffed before running his thumb over the scratch again. Same result. "That is really weird though"
"Careful Donnie" Leo shifted nervously, "It might be dangerous"
"Rub it!" Mikey insisted, "C'mon bro! It's worth a shot! If nothing happens then I'll agree that there's no such thing as genies!"
"That's risky" Raph pushed Mikey gently. "What if it explodes and kills him?"
"It probably won't" Mikey waved his older brother off. "I'll do it!"
Donnie rolled his eyes but did as his little brother suggested.
He rubbed the lamp.
The metal began to glow as if it were heating up, smoke poured from the nozzle and from under the lid. It shook and rattled.
The brothers stared in shock and slight fear.
"Put it down Donnie!" Leo commanded worriedly.
At that moment the lamp let out a loud bang as smoke surrounded the four brothers, Donnie dropped it on the floor.
They coughed and grabbed at each other, making sure the other was alright.
When the smoke cleared the four brothers noticed a fifth person in the lab, they looked up to see a young blue woman floating over them.
"A genie!" Mikey exclaimed.
This genie didn't look as friendly as the one from Aladdin though, she looked strict and annoyed. Her arms were crossed as were her long legs, her black hair was tied in a long, high ponytail. Her feet were bare but there were shackles on her ankles and wrists. She had dark purple lipstick and thick eyeliner; her violet eyes looked down on the turtles in distain. She wore a red long-sleeved tube top which showed her midriff and matching pants.
She scanned the boys before standing straight, she towered over them.
"Hello, strange masters" She greeted in a deep sultry voice. "I am the genie of the lamp, what are your names?"
"I'm Michelangelo!" Mikey is practically shaking in excitement. "These are my brothers Leonardo and Raphael! Donatello here is the one who rubbed the lamp!"
The genie smiled stiffly; her eyes drifted over to Donnie.
"Thank you for allowing me this brief freedom Donatello" She bows her head slightly.
"Do we get three wishes now?" Mikey squealed.
"Hush little one" The genie scolded, "There are rules I must explain first. These are very important, so you have to listen carefully"
The brothers share a look but nod.
"I will grant you each one wish" She began, "You must be very specific and very careful, none of these wishes can be undone. Make sure you word your wishes very precisely."
She looked them all over once more before continuing.
"There are certain wishes I cannot grant." She flicked her wrist and a scroll appeared from thin air, it unravelled, and she read out the rules. "I will not: Kill anyone, bring anybody back from the dead, make anyone fall in love with anyone else, enslave, brainwash or kidnap. You will also not request that I do sexual acts for you"
The scroll disappears.
"That's a whole lot of rules" Mikey frowned before smirking, "But I notice one of the rules isn't to wish away the rules"
The genie narrowed her eyes at the youngest turtle.
"You will have your wish last" She nodded before turning to Donnie, "And you will have yours first"
The brothers look at one another, what should they wish for?
"We could wish her free like in Aladdin?" Mikey suggested.
"if you wish me free you kill me" The genie sighed unimpressed, "Genies only live to serve, my lamp is my lifeline"
"Oh" Mikey cringed.
"Please stop going on about that movie" Leo nudged Mikey, the youngest shrugged.
"Your wish?" The genie looked at Donnie.
"Uhm…" Donnie looked at his brothers for help.
"Ha" Mikey snickered. "C'mon dude! I know what I'm wishing for!"
"You do?" Raph looked surprised.
"The one who summoned me must go first" The genie crossed her arms in annoyance, "Then you three can go in whatever order is quickest"
"What a bitch" Raph whispered, the brothers snickered.
"Careful" The genie growled. "I might purposely mishear your wish"
The brothers gulp. This was serious. One wish was all they got.
Donnie thought hard, he didn't know what to wish for. He supposed it was nice that he was satisfied enough in life that he didn't immediately think of something.
He almost wished himself and his brothers human, but he didn't want to force something on his brothers and he sure didn't want to be the only one. He was also aware he couldn't change the human's perception of them because, technically, that was brainwashing.
This was hard.
But then it came to him, he could wish for something which would prove invaluable.
"I wish to be able to cure any illness or injury" He looked up at the genie warily, he heard his brothers gasp.
"Because this is the first wish, I'm gonna do some checking" The genie smirked. "You wanna be able to cure anybody of any illness and injury. This won't include mental illnesses and it won't be painless. All you'd have to do is place a hand on the being in question and that would be that… You understand this could cause people to become… careless?"
"That's why I didn't say painlessly" Donnie nodded, "They'll still feel pain as I cure them, encouraging them to still be careful"
"You also understand it won't stop anyone aging?" She checked; her smirk gone.
"Yes" Donnie nodded.
"Every wish comes with a price" She continues, "For this… you will feel the pain of the being as you are curing them. You certain of your wish?"
"No!" Leo shook his head, "Donne don't!"
"I'm sure" Donnie nodded.
"I will grant your wish" The genie closed her eyes and pushed her hand in front of her, blue sparkling smoke flew from them and surrounded Donatello. Hiding him from view.
His brothers watched with bated breath.
The smoke drifted away leaving a slightly dazed Donnie.
"You ok?" Leo checked immediately; the brothers came closer to the fourth.
"Yeah" He nodded, "How do I know if it worked?"
The genie scoffed in offense.
"Because I granted it to you!" She snapped, "You dare to question me?"
The brothers stare at her in shock.
"No no!" Donnie is quick to try and calm her, "Just checking"
"Who's next" She commanded. "C'mon"
Mikey hugged Donnie's arm and both brothers gasped in pain.
"The hell?" Raph stared. Mikey looked down at his left hand.
"Woah! You just made my papercut go away!" Mikey grinned, Donnie chuckled and checked his left hand. No mark.
"That was weird" He shared an excited look with Mikey, "I felt it as if I had just gotten a papercut!"
The brothers couldn't help but feel a little excited.
"I'm still not sure what to wish for" Leo confessed. "Raph, Mikey, one of you go first"
"Michelangelo is to go last after his behaviour" The genie commanded, "Raphael, make your wish"
Raphael had thought about what he wanted; he knew he wanted to wish for something that would help his brothers. He considered the ability to transport to his brothers' sides should they need him, but he figured the wording of that could go horribly wrong. So, he settled for his biggest annoyance.
"I wish to be able to fight without tiring so I can protect my brothers" He nodded.
The genie smirked.
"You understand that won't stop you from being killed in battle?"
"Yeah but if I don't get tired, I won't make sloppy mistakes"
"Very well. Your price is… you will be able to fight while your brothers are in danger but as soon as you are safe you will be exhausted, you will need twice the amount of sleep" The genie nodded. "Are you certain?"
"Yeah" Raph nodded in determination.
"Very well. I will grant you your wish" The genie closed her eyes and pushed her hands out in front of her, blue sparkling smoke poured from her hands and surrounded Raphael. Hiding him from view.
The brothers watched the smoke vanish leaving a grinning Raphael.
"I feel great!" He grinned. "You're next Leo!"
Leonardo thought long and hard about what he wanted. He just wanted to be able to go to bed knowing his brothers are ok every night. He wanted to no longer fear that one day they may come home one down. He didn't know how to wish for these things.
He noticed his brothers were excitedly chatting, so he came closer to the genie.
"If I were to wish for the ability to protect my brothers no matter what… what would that entail?"
The genie blinked.
"Well… exactly what you say" She frowned. "No matter where you were, how close to deaths door you were you would protect your brothers. You would be transported out of nowhere to their side, this could result in you taking a serious hit for them"
"Right… so they would stay alive no matter what?"
"Yes, not free from injury but from death as long as you are alive" She nodded. "They physically could not be killed"
"And the price?" Leo asked seriously. The genie looked Leo over.
"If a fatal blow is dealt to a brother… it will kill you instead" She explained, "Are you willing to pay that price?"
Leonardo looked over as his brothers laughed at Mikey's joke.
"Yes" He smiled, "Always"
"Then make the wish properly" The genie nodded.
"I wish" Leo began, his brothers were quick to listen, "for the ability to protect my brothers no matter what"
The brothers gasp when the genie simply granted him his wish.
"Now Michelangelo" The genie faced the youngest turtle. "Your wish please"
Mikey didn't hesitate.
"I wish for Ice cream kitty to become a real cat who lives as long as I do!" Mikey announced, the brothers grinned.
They were happy that Mikey chose to make a wish for himself rather than for them, he was the one they were wanting to protect after all.
"What is an Ice cream kitty?" The genie frowned. Mikey ran and collected the mutant from the freezer and showed her to the genie. "Ok…"
The genie frowned and shook her head.
"So, you want her to turn back into a real cat but give her the extended lifespan to match yours?" She checked; Mikey nodded enthusiastically. "The price will be… When you die, the cat will die a day later. The cat will not be able to die until then but will still feel pain of any injuries etc. Do you accept this price?"
"Yep!" Mikey nodded as he hugged the melting cat.
"Very well. I will grant you your wish" The genie nodded. The blue smoke surrounded Mikey and his cat, when it evaporated the youngest was holding a very happy tabby.
"Yay!" Mikey cheered and hugged the cat tightly, she meowed back happily.
"What will you name her now?" Donnie asked,
"Hopefully a less dumb name than ice cream kitty" Raph smirked.
"I'm gonna name her Klunk!" Mikey grinned.
"Or maybe not" Raph and Donnie snicker.
The four brothers go to thank the genie only to find that she, and her lamp, had disappeared.
It would turn up elsewhere someday, waiting for someone to find it.
