This Night

Chapter 210

Author's Note: Ah reviews I love them! They motivate! They also make me very happy. Let's see if we find the priest in this one or will it be next chapter. I don't think Rick's going to like that they picked up a stray on the way. Glenn and Summer need some 'older brother, sister time.'

So my birthday was on the 12th and I had book club on Thursday night. Nicky had a Rick Grimes birthday cake made for me. After I cut the pieces, I literally looked like I was attacked by walkers. Red and black everywhere! Review please.

Summer and Glenn's POV:

Summer sat on the fence looking out to the driveway. She glanced over at Glenn as he looked at her. "You look like you want to ask me something."

Glenn looked at her. "Seems like it's been forever since we talked, you and me. We used to do it a lot at the farm."

"Then you went and fell in love with Maggie and your kid sister became second best," Summer teased.

"Like you can talk, Joey's been a big part of your life since he came to the prison. You two found this place? You two were alone?" Glenn asked curiously.

Summer looked at him. "You are not going to ask if we had sex. Oh my God, Glenn you were!"

"I wasn't going to ask you that, I would have gotten Maggie to ask you that," Glenn answered with a grin. "Do I have to kill him?"

Summer rolled her eyes. "No, nothing happened! We were a little busy trying to find the rest of you. Though this conversation is making me wonder why I ever missed you," she teased as she playfully hit his shoulder.

Glenn gave a nod. "You were smart, not believing the signs, that Terminus was Sanctuary. You did the right thing, staying out, helping us."

"I believed the signs, I needed to believe the signs, just like you did, Glenn. I knew that's where Mom would have went, and I wanted to be with her. I was there with Lori, and I wanted to be there for mom. If something had happened, and she was alone, I wouldn't be able to live with myself," Summer told him.

"Nothing happened, she's fine, the baby is fine," Glenn assured her.

"We got lucky, but we're still missing Beth. When we find her then we'll be complete," Summer told him.

"We don't even know where to begin," Glenn gently pointed out.

"What did Hershel always say? Got to have a little faith. We all shouldn't have found each other again, we all shouldn't be alive, but we are. Things are going to be rough….I know that, but I have to believe that we are going to be alright," Summer told him as she lowered her head. "Because if I don't believe, if it doesn't get alright, then everything I've done makes me a bad person. So, I'm just going to believe that everything is going to work out," she said softly.

"You want to talk about it?" Glenn asked as he squeezed her hand.

"Not yet…I talked with Michonne. Joey knows since he was there. But I'm not ready to rehash it again. What about you? I found you in that room with dad, mom, Uncle Daryl and Bob. One of the men, dad, Carol and I knew him. Sam. We had invited him back to the prison, with his girlfriend. The thought of what those animals were doing, what they were going to do to all of you, I feel sick to my stomach. It has to be so much worse for all of you," Summer told him.

Glenn looked out past the fence. "I can't describe the feeling of realizing what was about to happen. Being that close to death….I mean we face it every day, but this was different."

"It's like Dale said, back at the farm, keeping our humanity, that's a choice," Summer said. "It's getting harder though, you know? No matter how hard we try to be the good people, to do what's right, other people just get worse," she said.

"Hey, you don't ever have to worry about being like that Summer. You've got to much good in you," Glenn assured her.

Summer started to say something before she heard the car. She jumped off the fence and got her gun ready. "It's them," she said as Glenn opened the gate.

Glenn watched as the car pull in and looked at Summer. "Did I see someone sitting in the hatchback?"

Summer sighed. "I was hoping I imagined that," she said as he closed the gate. They both walked up to the car hands tight around there guns. "Uncle Merle, whose the stray?" she asked as he got out of the car.

"I'm not a dog," the man said as he got out of the hatchback. "How about the next time, someone smaller sit in the hatchback?" he asked as he looked at Sasha.

"We could have left you back where we found you," Sasha told him.

"Who is he?" Summer repeated.

Joey got out of the car. "My brother," he said.

"I'll go get Rick," Mar said. "Take the medicine to Ronnie. We need to unload the car and get ready to move out in the morning."

"Trouble?" Glenn asked as he glanced at the newcomer.

"About two dozen walkers, and they're going to be heading this way and meeting up with the ones from Terminus. This place isn't going to hold if they join up," Rosita said.

"So, let's go inside and meet the rest of the family," David said.

Glenn and Summer both held up there guns. "Let's not be to hasty," Summer told him.

Group POV:

Mar walked into the house. "We got medicine, diapers, clothing, some food, extra bags. We need to pack up, ready to move tomorrow," she said as she handed Maggie the bag of medicine.

Daryl looked out the window. "Whose the stray?" he asked as he squeezed Mar's hand.

"Joey's brother. We couldn't just leave him, but…" Mar said as she hesitated.

"Is he trouble?" Carol asked.

"Troubled," Mar answered. "Where's Rick?"

"Upstairs with Jewel and Hope," Ronnie answered as she took the bag from Maggie. "I'll go through these and bring it up to Jewel. Carol, see if you can find a thermos or empty bottles, make up some of that tea for Jewel."

"Right," Carol answered going to work on the task.

"Jewel's not going to be able to carry a bag, she's got Hope and shouldn't be carrying much more weight then that," Mar added.

"I'll put some of the things she needs in my bag, things that she'll need for her and Hope. I'll stay close to her," Ty said as he joined in the conversation.

"Carl and I can make sure the diaper bag has stuff for both babies. Did you find any formula?" Lexi asked.

"Yes, and we also found some new born bottles. Found some raisons that can tide Judy over," Mar said as she walked up the stairs. She softly knocked on the door before she opened it. "Rick, we need you," she said softly. "How is she?" Mar asked quietly.

Rick stood up with Hope in his arms going over. "Good. What's wrong? What happened? Did we lose someone?"

Mar shook her head as she touched Hope's face. "We brought someone back, Joey's brother. He's been almost alone for a long time. We ran into a couple dozen walkers', if they meet up with the group from Terminus, this place would never stand. We think it's a good plan to move out tomorrow morning, people are unpacking the car, packing up the bags," she told him.

Rick nodded. "Can you take her? Stay with Jewel?" he asked.

Mar grinned as she took Hope. "Like you even have to ask," she said.

Rick nodded as he walked down the stairs. He stopped for a minute as he watched this group, his family, already taking action to be ready to move tomorrow. "Where is he?" he asked Daryl.

"Outside, Glenn and Summer aren't letting him in," Daryl reported. "I'll go with you."

Rick nodded as he walked out on the porch. "Merle, you want to explain?"

"I'll leave that to Joey," Merle answered.

"We got to be ready to move tomorrow, all of you finish unpacking the car then pack up bags. Summer, Glenn you two mind taking a couple more hours on guard shift?" Rick asked.

"I wasn't going to get any sleep anyway," Summer answered.

"I'll make sure you're bag is packed," Sasha said.

"Maggie's got mine, I'm sure," Glenn said.

"Alright, you heard the man, come on, stop looking like you became deaf," Daryl told the group.

"I guess you aren't talking to me," Joey said.

"Not til we figure this out," Rick said as everyone went to there assigned jobs. "I'm Rick Grimes," he said as he looked at the other man.

"David London," David answered without extending his hand.

Rick nodded as he looked at Joey. "That his bag?"

Joey nodded. "Yeah," he answered.

"Search it," Rick told him as he turned his attention back to David.

"Hey, you don't have any right," David told them as he tried to go past Rick and grab the bag.

Rick pushed him against the car. "We have every right. I don't know you. You may be Joey's brother but it's been almost two years since you saw each other, and we've all changed. We aren't the same people we were before. Mar tells me that you were mostly on your own for a while, that changes people. So, before I let you inside, near my wife, my children, my family, we're going to come to an understanding," he told David as he glanced to Joey. "Anything."

Joey held up a joint. "Really? I guess you really have changed. You used to give me lectures about doing stuff like this. Is there any more?" he asked as he put it on the ground and stomped on it.

"You have no right," David said as he struggled against Rick's grip.

"I told you whose side I'd chose, if it came down to it David," Joey told him. "I asked you if there was anymore."

"Answer him," Rick told him.

"No, alright? I was going to take a couple hits then end it. I didn't think I would have the guts to go through with it otherwise," David admitted. "But now I guess I don't need it because I seem to have found myself some family, at least that's what Joey says it is. Let me tell you, I'm feeling the love," he said sarcastically.

Rick looked at him. "He's family, my family. You are just a person that happened to have the same blood running through his veins as him. That don't mean shit, ask Merle. I take it that no one held a gun to your head to get you in the car, right? Joey, you didn't force him into that car did you?" he asked.

"No, he got in on his own free will," Joey answered.

Rick nodded. "That means you wanted to live, that you wanted a chance to be part of a family."

"He was heading to Terminus," Joey informed Rick.

Rick gave a slight nod. "Joey told you what they were? That they weren't what they seemed? The living can be worse then the dead. That's why we need to stay together. Did you ask him the questions?"

Joey nodded. "Yes," he answered.

"I'm going to give you a chance, but only one because that is all I can afford to give you. I'm not even sure if I'd give you that if you weren't Joey's brother. But if you do anything that's going to endanger my family, I will end you. Joey, you and David here go relieve Glenn and Summer. Summer's going to need to help her mom tomorrow, we need her rested," Rick ordered.

Joey nodded. "Right," he said. "Thanks for giving him a chance."

"Like I said, I wouldn't if he wasn't your brother," Rick told him as he nodded and walked off.

Author's Note: That took longer to finish then it should have but it's been a long week at work! My son turns 21 tomorrow so I'm not sure if I'll be posting tomorrow. But we'll be introducing the priest next chapter. Review please.
