This Night

Chapter 223

Author's Note: Angie B: I know right? Gabriel shouldn't be worried about the wrath of God, it's the wrath of Jewel if you mess with her babies! The Joey and Ty scene I have been wanting to do for a while. Review please, it makes me motivated!

Group POV:

Jewel pressed her knife a little harder at the side of Gabriel's temple and shook her head. She watched as he held on to his prayer beads a little bit harder. Jewel turned her head as Judith fussed a little.

Mika picked her up and kissed the top of her head. "Shh," she said quietly.

"I don't know, maybe we'll keep the kid. I'm starting to like this girl," Gareth's voice said through the door.

Jewel saw Rosita, Carl and Lexi move to in front of the door, ready to fire as soon as anyone entered.

"That's your last chance to tell us you're coming out," Gareth told them as his men cocked his guns. "Jewel, do you really want us to come in there firing, hurting your children? Your baby? You come out right now, I'll let Judith and the baby live."

Jewel rolled her eyes restraining herself from opening the door and killing him herself.

"Are we done?" Martin asked Gareth.

"We'll hit the hinges," Gareth told them.

Jewel took a breath as she heard footsteps, knowing the Calvary had arrived. She heard the sound of bodies falling to the floor.

"Put your guns on the floor," Rick ordered.

"Rick we'll fire right into that office, so you lower your guns," Gareth exclaimed right before Rick took a shot and took off his fingers.

"Ah…" Gareth moaned.

"Put your guns down and kneel," Rick ordered.

"Do what he says," Gareth moaned in pain. "Martin there's no choice here," Gareth said.

"Yeah there is," Martin said confidently.

Joey and Summer stepped out of the shadows, both with there guns pointed at him, Summer went to one side, Joey went to the other. "Come on Martin, give us a reason to put a bullet in both sides of your head," Joey told him.

Martin gave a small laugh as he took off his gun and bent down, crossing his arms in front of him.

Summer picked up the guns, along with Sasha and slightly moved back.

Rick held his gun on Gareth and went in front of him, Gareth turning to face him.

"No point in begging right?" Gareth questioned.

"No," Rick answered as he looked at him.

"Still you could have killed us when you came in, there had to be a reason for that," Gareth pointed out.

Rick shrugged one of his shoulders. "We didn't want to waist the bullets."

"We used to help people, we saved people," Gareth tried to explain. "Things changed, they came in….after that. I know you've been out there, but I can see it, you don't know what it is to be hungry. You don't have to do this. We can walk away and we'll never cross paths again. I promise you," he begged Rick.

"We wouldn't trust a word that came out of your mouth if your tongue was notarized," Jes told him.

"You'll cross someone's paths. You'd do this to anyone right? Besides, I already made you a promise," Rick said as he took out his red handled machete.

"No!" Gareth screamed as he received a blow.

Summer rammed the knife that had been her Uncle's weapon in Martin's skull. "How'd that choice work out for you?" she asked as the others took down the other people.

Jewel opened the door. "Carl, Lexi keep the kids in here," she told them. "Rick!" she called to get his attention. "He's dead, he's gone," she told him as she pulled his face to hers. "Any more, it's just….to much. He's dead, he isn't going to hurt anyone else," she said as she kissed him.

Rick put away the machete. "It could have been us….it could have been you," he breathed as he kissed her.

"But it wasn't," Jewel assured him.

Jes stood beside Michonne as she bent down and took her sword from the body of one of the dead.

"It's back where it belongs," Jes told her as they walked into the room where Bob was.

Axel stood by the door and took in the carnage. He looked at Glenn and Maggie who was doing the same.

"This is the Lords House," Gabriel told them.

"No it's just four walls and a roof," Maggie told him.

Jewel, Rick, Bob's POV:

The whole group stood in the room where Bob was laying on the couch. "You'll always be with us, part of us," Maggie told Bob as she tried to hold back the tears. She kissed his hand as she got up. Glenn patted his foot as the group started to leave except for Sasha.

"Rick, Jewel," Bob called out causing both of them to turn and look at him.

Rick started to hand Judith off to Carl and Jewel started to hand Hope to Summer.

"No, don't. Let them stay. I trust them," Bob told them.

Sasha stood up. "I'll be right outside," she said. Rick squeezed her shoulder as Jewel gave her a hug.

"I just wanted to say thank you," Bob told them.

Jewel and Rick exchanged glances. "For what?" Rick asked.

"Before the prison, I didn't know if there were any good people left. I didn't know if anybody was left. You took me in. 'Cause you took people in. It was you, man. You and Jewel. You made a family in this hell hole of a world, and you made me part of that family. What I said yesterday, I ain't revising it. Even in light of current events. Nightmares end. They shouldn't end who you are. And that is just this dead man's opinion," Bob said as Rick sat down on the bed holding Judith and squeezed his hand.

Rick nodded. "I'll take it."

Jewel wiped her eyes. "You fit, you are one of us. Hope and Judith, they'll know about Uncle Bob. What a great man he was. How important he was to us. You'll live on," she assured him.

Bob gave a small chuckle. "Just look at the two of them and tell me the world isn't going to change," he said as Rick took his hand again.

Joey and Tyreese POV:

Joey sat on the back of a pew with his feet on the seat and just stared at the spot Martin had been in. He didn't even look up as Ty passed him. "You said you had taken care of him, you said you had killed him because you had to. Now, I know that the dead have this annoying habit of coming back to life after they die, but they don't talk. I asked you if you made sure he wasn't coming back, you told me he wasn't," he said as he stood up. "He came back Ty, not as a walker, but as a living, breathing man that went and met up with his other buddies and they came here. They kidnapped Bob, they cut off his leg and ate it. It could have been anyone Ty. It could have been Sasha and Lexi, your sisters. It could have been Summer. It could have been anyone of us Ty. So tell me, look me in the eyes Ty and make me understand how you let Martin live," Joey begged. "Make me understand why you lied to us. I need to understand, Ty. I have to understand."

Ty looked at him. "I tried, I beat him, but when it came to it…I couldn't do it. I couldn't end an innocent person's life."

Joey restrained himself from punching the man. "Innocent? Innocent? Hope and Judith they are innocent. But the rest of us, we have blood on our hands, down to our soul. And….Martin….Gareth….the others….they were soaked in the blood of people they killed. They were the worst of the worst Ty."

"I…know that but I couldn't do it. I thought if I let him live, that he wouldn't bother us again," Ty told him.

Joey laughed as he ran his hair through his hair and sat on the bench. "How did that work out for you Ty? Merle is dead, Bob poor Bob….he probably would have gotten bit, but he would have died with all his body parts. I get it Ty, that you aren't comfortable with killing. And, that's alright, it really is. BUT, you lying to us, that's not ok. We have to trust each other, we have to rely on each other. I would have killed him, Carol or Summer. You just had to tell us. You just needed to trust us. If you can't do the dirty work, we can. That's what families do, Ty," he said as he stood up and walked away.

Jewel and Summer's POV:

Jewel reached out her hand to Summer. Summer gave a small weak smile as she took it and squeezed it. "We'll be OK," Jewel told her oldest child.

"Doesn't feel like it," Summer answered honestly. "Where the hell is Uncle Daryl? And Carol? Why would they just get in a car and leave? Whose going to tell him about Uncle Merle?" she asked.

"Whatever made them get in the car and drive away, it must have been important. He wouldn't have just left without telling us, telling Mar, if it wasn't something important. I'll tell him," Jewel told her. She let Summer lean on her shoulder and kissed the top of her head. "I don't want you to lose yourself in all this. I know it's easy, but you need to fight to hold on to the part that makes you the good, loving, caring Summer Dixon."

Summer huffed. "I don't think you get to be good and survive in this world."

"Yeah, yeah, you do," Jewel reassured her. "It may be hard, but letting this world take total control of you, it turns you into people like the Governor, people like Grayson….Gareth. It'll eat your soul and spit it out and leave you empty, a shell of a person that you were. I saw it in Rick's eyes today, while he was letting Gareth have it, even after he was dead. I saw it in Sasha's eyes. That's the kind of thing if left unchecked, it'll turn us into people like them. I don't want to become them, I don't want to live in a world where the only way to survive is to take something someone else has. I can't be that person," Jewel told her.

"Maybe it's the only way?" Summer answered.

Jewel shook her head. "No, I don't believe that. I believe that there are other good people out there in this world, we just haven't found them yet. People who are surviving because they are holding onto there humanity. We just need to push through the bad ones, like we did with the Governor and the Terminus people, and we'll find them. And, when we do, I don't want them to look at us like we looked at the Governor."

"We've all done things, things we can't take back," Summer pointed out.

"Yes we have. The line between good and evil has always been thin, right now it's almost non existent. What happened here today, it was to survive. We tried to do the good thing, we did. We should have made sure all of them were dead before we left. We learned from the Governor, if they attack, they die. But, we don't attack people, we don't become them. I'm going to need your help to keep this group in check, to make sure we don't lose them to the other side," Jewel told her oldest child.

"Whose going to make sure I don't go over to the dark side?" Summer asked.

Jewel kissed the top of her head. "I will, your dad will, Carl will, Joey will. We'll pull you back. And if we can't, I know two little sisters who are just to adorable that can help you," she said as she kissed the top of her head again.

Author's Note: Jewel just said something important that will come up in Alexandria. Review please.
