Iza sighed. She was bored again. Hmm, maybe she could try going to a different string this time. With this goal in mind she sat down on the couch and focused on her breathing. The noise faded away and she was in the dark abyss.
Iza walked over to the earth and looked over the strings. She decided to try to go to a grey and black string that was still being made and had teeth woven into it. She put out her hand and grabbed the string.
She felt a spinning sensation and then she was falling. The fall shorter this time and she hit the ground with a small groan. Iza got up and started walking. This world looked empty. She couldn't see any animals or humans. There were only trees.
Suddenly the ground started shaking and she heard a deafening roar. Her eyes widened in panic and she turned around and was suddenly staring into the face of a t-rex. Iza stumbled and started running in the other direction.
She heard the large dinosaur chasing her. Soon she saw a cave. She sprinted towards it and inside. As soon as she breathed a sigh of relief she felt a blinding pain in her neck and black spots danced in her vision. Iza collapsed and suddenly she was back in the abyss.
She heard a loud snap and looked at the strings. The one she was just in had snapped off of the earth, leaving behind a bloody tooth. She felt something wet on her neck and touched it. Her hand came away with blood. Had she just died? She shuddered. She walked over to the tooth and sure enough it was her blood. She put it in her pocket and sat down. And closed her eyes and focused on breathing. Soon she was home.
She opened her eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. She frowned as she felt something in her pocket. She reached inside and pulled out the bloody dinosaur tooth. She stared in wonder. That meant all of these worlds were real and she could interact with them.
She got up and put the bloody tooth on a shelf. She had to test something. She sat down and entered the abyss. She got up and felt her neck. Still bloody. Damn. She had to check if it was still bloody in her world now. Iza went back to her world and sure enough it was bloody. She sighed and decided a shower would do her some good.
After Iza's shower she put on some new clothes and put on her boots. She was going exploring. She sat down and meditated. She entered the abyss and stared at the multitude of strings. She found a pretty pink string woven with flowers. She touched it and focused on not falling out of the sky.
Iza felt spinning and she collapsed to the ground. She groaned. She pushed herself up and looked around. She was in an alley. She picked herself up and walked out of the alley.
Iza found she was in a market place. A Victorian market place. She walked up to a clothes shop and entered. All around her were beautiful dresses and hats. She walked up to the counter.
"Hello there! My name's Iza and I'm new in town. I was wondering if you would be willing to trade one of these dresses for this necklace." Iza unclasped the necklace and took it off. It was a pink heart necklace that she had bought for 5 dollars.
The man at the counter picked up the necklace and studied it. "Hmm. I'll give you that dress over there," he pointed at a fancy looking dress, "and the matching hat for this necklace." Iza agreed and went over to the dress and hat. She pulled it down and walked over to the dressing room. Iza pulled on the dress and put in the hat. She looked at her reflection and shrugged. It didn't really look good without a corset, but she would make do. She walked out of the dressing room, clothes in hand, and waved goodbye to the man at the counter. She walked out of the door and outside.
'Where to go now?' Iza thought. Iza decided to wander around the market place and look for anything that caught her eye. Maybe she should buy a bag of some sort so she doesn't have to carry her clothes everywhere. She shrugged. Maybe she should just drop them off at home and get some more stuff to trade. She nodded to herself and found an alleyway.
She leaned against the wall and controlled her breathing, sending herself home. Soon she found she was in her camper wearing a Victorian dress and hat. She smiled and pushed her clothes out of her lap and got up.
She went over to her jewelry box and pulled out some cheap metal necklaces and rings. She grabbed a small box and put the items inside. She got back on the ground and found herself in a Victorian alleyway, holding a small box full of necklaces and rings.
Iza walked out into the street and towards a shop selling jewelry. She walked inside, hoping to find a gift for her mother. She was browsing the pendants when a certain locket caught her eye. It was a heart shaped locket covered in swirls and flowers. When she opened it, a single flower fell out. She picked up the flower and put it in the locket, heading to check out. "Hello there ma'am, how can I help you today?" Said the well dressed man behind the counter.
"Hello, I would like to barter for this locket." Iza said to the man. "Well what do you have to barter with?" He asked. Iza put her small box of jewelry on the counter and opened it. The man looked appreciative. "I'll give you this locket for two of those necklaces, and the ring with the bird carved in it." Iza thought for a second then shook her head. "That is too much for such a small locket. I will give you that much for the locket and that necklace." Iza pointed at a necklace that had a dragonfly on it.
The man nodded and got the necklace down from the shelf and wrapped it and the locket in paper then put them in a bag. Iza handed over the ring and necklaces and walked out of the shop. The rest of the afternoon was spent in similar fashion. At the end of the day, Iza was down half of her jewelry, but she had gotten 5 new dresses, 8 necklaces, 3 new hats, and 2 rings. Iza was about to enter another shop when suddenly she felt a buzzing in her head.
She shook her head to rid herself of the feeling, but it only got worse. She stumbled into an alleyway and focused on the abyss. She appeared in the abyss with her bags, but it still didn't stop.
She focused on going back to her camper and suddenly the buzzing wasn't in her head, but next to her. She looked over next to her and face palmed. It was her phone. She sighed and checked her messages. It was a text from her work friend, Amy.
-Hey, Iza! Did you finish that project we had to do yet?
Iza thought for a second and cursed. She had totally forgotten about that. She sighed and texted Amy back.
-Oh my god I totally forgot about that. Thx Amy.
-No problem, Iza. Just let me know when you're done.
Iza sighed and got up. She picked up her new things and put them away, then picked up her laptop and got to work. Even though Iza was only sixteen, she worked at a tech company, running the numbers and helping out. Iza cracked her fingers and began to type.
Zuko growled in frustration. He just couldn't get her out of his head. 'Iza' his traitorous mind whispered. 'No! She is not important enough to remember her name.' He thought. 'Then why can't you get it out of your head?' Zuko twitched then threw a fire ball off of the deck.
Zuko's uncle approached him. "Is something wrong, nephew?" The kindly old man asked. "No. There's not." He said shortly then walked away, leaving his confused uncle in his wake.
