This Night
Chapter 236
Author's Note: Just me again. I will probably not watch the mid season finale until Monday after work, so SHH. Though I really hope a random hair cut lady is going to be gone. I've been anxiously rooting for her death since she randomly appeared to give Rick a random haircut. Can you tell what Summer or Jewel is going to call her? Yeah, Summer's channeling a reckless Merle at the beginning. Review please.
Summer and Noah's POV:
Noah looked at Summer then the gun then her again. "You know you don't have to do this. This isn't your fight."
Summer looked at him. "It was my fight the moment they took Beth and Carol. It was my fight the moment Uncle Daryl brought you back."
"I just couldn't live with myself if this went wrong and you got captured," Noah told her.
"I'm not going to get captured, because I know those people up there have my back. Now time is of the essence, so, let's get this show on the road," Summer said as she fired a gun up in the air. "Ready or not here we come," she said as she ran out in front of him. "Come on," she called after him.
Noah looked after her then took off after her. "I thought we'd have some kind of countdown you know? Like three, two, one. Or at least some warning," he said as he shot his gun.
"What fun would that be?" Summer asked with a grin.
"I think your father may kill you for that stunt," Noah told her.
"You were talking to much, wasting time, we need to keep the element of surprise on our side," Summer told him. She smirked a little as she started hearing the car. "That was fast," she told him.
"They reported to Dawn about the gun fire. If she thinks she can get more free labor, then she'll do anything to get it," Noah said. "Plus, they are looking for me," he pointed out.
"But it's not free labor, it's slavery, it's wrong," Summer said as she fired the gun again. "I'm going to slow down, you keep going."
"What? No, we should stay together," Noah told her.
"Divide and conquer," Summer told him. "Go, you won't be that far ahead," she told him. "Plus I'm good at tripping over my two feet," she added.
"What?" Noah asked confused.
Summer glanced back over her shoulder. "Go," she said as she pretended to fall as she took out her knife and ripped a hole in the knee of her pocket. "Go!" she yelled. She glanced back as the car slowed down and gave a small grin as a female officer got out. "Predictable," she mumbled under your breath.
The female officer closed the door as it took off after him. "Easy, I'm not going to hurt you. I don't know what Noah told you, but we've got a hospital, we've got food and medicine. It's not safe to be out here alone," the female told her as she bent down to help her.
Summer waited until she bent down then raised her head to look up as she lifted a gun to her face. "I heard about your idea of helping people, got to say I'm not a fan. Throw down the gun."
The woman went to grab her gun as she felt a pistol being pressed into her head. "Don't even think about it, throw it down," Joey told her. He waited until she threw down the gun. "Kick it over to her, and the radio too. Nice and slow."
Summer picked it up as she nodded at Joey who grabbed her arm. "Let's go."
"The two of you aren't going to get away with this, there's a lot more of us then you," the female said.
"You assume we are alone, that's your first mistake," Summer told her.
Washington group POV:
Axel walked in front with Glenn as the others to find water.
"Is deer even in season?" David asked.
Glenn looked back at him. "You were the one that asked about deer and you don't know if they are in season? You grew up around where Merle, Daryl and Jewel did, can't tell me you never hunted."
"No, never was into that. Why get bloody and have to clean something when you can walk into the store and buy it?" David said with a laugh. "Yeah, maybe I should have rethought that whole thing."
Tara looked at a bunch of walkers' that were stuck under a log. "Just stay here, guys. Don't get up. There is nothing for you in Washington," she said.
"That's not funny," Rosita told her.
"It's not not not not funny," Tara told them.
"Hey, I get that we're all dealing with things in different ways-" Glenn told them.
"Listen, I don't know what to do without DC anymore, but I'm not dealing with it. I'm over it. I just want him to be okay. Eugene wasn't strong. He isn't fast. He doesn't know how to use a weapon. The truth hurts, but he's useless. He had one skill that kept him living. Are we supposed to be mad at him 'cause he used it?" Tara asked.
"Damn right," Glenn said as he walked ahead.
Axel glanced back at the rest of the group then caught up with him. "Hey, Glenn hold up for a minute. Let me say something," he said.
"You can say it while we're walking," Glenn told him.
Axel nodded. "Fair enough. Remember when you all found the prison and you all counted me out? You didn't want to give me or Oscar a chance at all because you didn't trust us."
"We gave Eugene a chance, and he lied to us. He's been lying to Abraham and Rosita for a while. He had our hopes on something that was a lie," Glenn said.
Axel nodded. "That was wrong, I'm not excusing it. But, as someone who didn't even know how to hold a gun before this, I kind of have a small bit of sympathy. Just a small bit. It's going to take some time to forgive him, if he wakes up. But, what are we going to do? Are we going to just leave him on his own?"
Glenn looked at him. "The thought did cross my mind."
Axel shook his head. "You wouldn't be able to live with yourself, none of us would. It's not who we are, Glenn. You all gave me a chance, didn't have to, but you did. I'm just saying, maybe Eugene should get the same chance," he said as he stopped. "We're here," he said as he nodded to the stream.
Glenn bent down and put his water bottle in and pulled it out and sighed as it was filled with muck. "Perfect."
"You think it's any clearer upstream?" Tara asked.
Everyone turned there head to a ripping sound as Rosita tore her sleeve. "Probably not, doesn't matter. Let me see," she said as she took the water bottle and got a bucket and sat down.
Tara watched her. "So, you just built a water filter in about two minutes, huh?" she asked.
"Eugene taught me. Takes a while, but it'll be clear, then we can boil it," Rosita answered.
Axel looked at Glenn. "So Eugene does have a few useful skills."
"Not sure if that makes up for the lying he did," David pointed out.
Tara glanced at David then at Rosita. "Were you with Abraham before it all happened?"
"No. No, I was with other people just trying to make it," Rosita answered.
"How'd you wind up together?" Glenn asked.
"Me and my group, we were fighting off some dead ones and he jumped in from out of nowhere with that big truck. Rest in peace. He had Eugene in the cab. And afterwards, he told me that he was trying to save the world. And that he saw what I could do, he wanted my help. He was the first person to ask me for that since this all started. Maybe he was lying, too," Rosita told her.
"Don't think he was," Axel said. "It's important to be asked to be part of something. Especially now a days."
"Where did they find you?" Rosita asked.
Glenn and Axel looked at each other. "In a prison. I was one of the five remaining people alive. There were two bad ones, the rest of us weren't bad. Took a while to prove myself, but now I'm part of the family."
"The other two die?" David asked.
"One was bit, one was shot," Axel answered as he heard something splashing in the water. "What was that?"
"Ripples, those are fish," Glenn said. "Come on."
Tara raised an eyebrow. "Ok..how?" she asked.
"Let's look around see if there's any fishing poles," David said.
"If not, we improvise," Rosita informed them.
Grady Rescue group:
Noah shot the gun again as the police car came went around him and ran into him. The male police officer got out and looked at him. "Noah put it down, hands up, turn around," he instructed as he pressed the button of the radio. "Shephard, I got Noah, you need help with the girl?" he asked as he zip tied Noah's hand. "You let me know if it's to tight alright? Whose the girl Noah? Where did you find her?" he asked as he looked around. "Where are those rotters you were shooting at?"
Daryl let out a whistle from behind him as the group came from behind them. Summer holding the female's arm as she was tied up.
"Hands," Rick told him.
"Look what do you want?" Shepard asked.
The male looked at them. "You alright?" he asked the female. When she nodded he looked at the group. "Whatever this is, we can help."
"You do what we say, we don't hurt you," Rick told him. "Summer."
Summer raised her gun to Shepard's head. "If you don't put the gun down, she dies."
The man sighed as he did what he was told. "Good, now turn around and put your gun on the floor," Rick told him. "We need to talk. Water if you need some and food," he told them.
Daryl grabbed the man's arm and pulled him up.
"Mind if I ask you something?" the male asked Rick.
Rick turned around as he handed Mar one of the weapons. "Yeah?"
"The way you talk... the way you carry yourself... were you a cop? Believe it or not, I was, too," the man said.
"You still wear a uniform, that still makes you one. You still have an oath to protect and you're doing a bad job," Ronnie told him.
"That's Lamson. He'll be down for this, he's one of the good ones," Noah told Rick.
Summer turned her head as a car came toward them. She pulled Shepard with her behind a dumpster. "Ronnie take her," she ordered.
Ronnie grabbed her and held her as everyone started to shoot. She held her arm tightly as Shepard went to try to run and get in the car with the other officers. "Don't," she warned.
Summer sighed as the car pulled away and the others ran off. "Come on let's take her to the garage," Summer told Ronnie as she took her back.
Summer, Ronnie and Mar's POV:
Summer sat the woman down on the step. "Don't move," she warned her.
"You alright? You're knee?" Mar asked.
"This time I faked the fall," Summer assured her.
Ronnie bent down in front of the female officer. "Noah told us that Beth had a broken arm? Besides that is she alright?"
"Some cuts," Shepard answered.
"What about Carol?" Mar asked.
"Carol?" the woman officer asked.
"Carol, the woman that was brought in after being ran over by a car," Summer told her.
"She's not in good shape. But I don't really know if Dawn called it yet, we've been out here," Shepard answered.
"Called it?" Ronnie asked. "As in if she isn't going to be able to be able to pull her weight, Dawn won't save her?"
"You're a doctor, aren't you? We could use a real caring doctor in Grady," Shepard answered.
"I'd rather be eaten by cannibals then go into that place the way it's being ran. And, just so you know, we were really almost ate by cannibals," Ronnie said.
"You're kidding?" Shepard asked.
"Wish she was, but no," Mar answered. "So how long until Dawn decides to pull the plug?"
"I don't know, it all depends. But I take it Beth is knows Carol?" Shepard asked.
"Yes, why?" Summer answered.
"If she's smart, she won't let Dawn know that. Dawn will use it against her," Shepard told them. "Why did you all come here? Risk your lives for them? Are you all related somehow?"
Summer looked at her. "Not all of us are blood related, but that doesn't make us any less related. You have two of us in there, so you picked the wrong family to screw with."
"Labor and delivery, what does it look like?" Ronnie asked as she changed the direction of the conversation.
"What?" Shepard asked confused.
"Labor and delivery, the nursery, how many walkers are down there?" Mar asked. "The medicine? Baby things?"
"It was the first evacuated. We never had any reason to go down there, to clear it out. Dawn didn't see any reason to. Why would you need labor and delivery? One of you pregnant?" Shepard asked.
Ronnie shook her head. "We had someone in our group have a baby. Both are alright, but since we're here, and you don't need anything in it, we're planning to clear it out."
"Dawn isn't going to let you, not with something in return," Shepard told them.
"We let her live, that's good enough," Summer said.
Mar glanced out the window. "They're coming back," she told them.
