This is a Supergirl fanficition that takes place around season 5 epsiode 13 where Kara tests alternate universes. It will not suit the real story of Supergirl but I hope you'll enjoy it anyway.

ONE OF THE ALTERNATE UNIVERSES

Kara was in her apartment. It looked different than her apartment though. "What kind of universe is this?" she mumbled asking herself. She walked over to her drawers where she saw photos standing. There was a photo of her and Alex and a photo of her and Winn and James. It was another photo that caught Kara's attention: a photo of Alex in a wedding dress and Kara standing next to her as a bride's maid. The most confusing thing however was, that there was a groom. A male partner, happily holding Alex' hand. Hadn't Alex come out in this universe? Kara was torn out of her thoughts abruptly by a knock. She went to open the door, scanning it with her x-ray vision.

"Kara" Lena greeted her insecurely. 'Did Lena know in this universe?' Kara wondered.

"Lena, come in" she answered and turned aside so Lena could pass. Why was Lena so skittish? Kara could hear Lena's heart beat faster than usually. What was she hiding? Kara touched Lena's arm and asked to take her jacket. The touch gave Kara small chills and it felt as if small electric impulses were sent from Lena's arm to hers. Lena smiled and took off her leather jacket while Kara couldn't help but watch Lena's beauteous figure move. 'What is going on with me?' Kara hung Lena's jacket on the coat-hook. She smelled Lena's scent in the room and suddenly felt a tingle in her stomach.

"So, what brings you here?" Kara asked frankly. Lena furrowed a brow.

"N-not that I didn't want you here" Kara added.

Lena smiled as she lowered her gaze. 'What is this tension?'

"Well, I was doing business not far from your apartment and thought it would be nice to visit my dear friend."

Kara giggled and smiled. She stopped herself wondering what was happening. She was crushing on Lena.

"What a nice surprise, Lena. If you're here already – why don't we order something to eat? It's been a while" Kara proposed. Lena smiled her unique and beautiful smile. Kara could still hear Lena's heart beat faster but she was more relaxed now.

"I'd like that" Lena answered flirtatiously. Or was it? Was Kara just reading too much in it? Kara exhaled loudly and smiled. She had to concentrate on her mission, though. It was so tempting to get carried away in this universe, but she had to know if Lena and her could stay friends even although she was Supergirl here.

"…and then James just couldn't help himself that many job offers had he received!" Kara told Lena laughing while eating. The two sat on Kara's couch and enjoyed their meal together. Lena didn't laugh and Kara was worried she discomforted her by talking about her ex.

"I-I'm sorry for talking about… I forgot…"

"No, no don't worry, Kara. I'm not- we're still friends. No weird feelings" Lena assured her.

"I never really understood why you broke up, to be honest" Kara admitted. Lena looked down and bit her lower lip.

"I don't think we match well" Lena responded after a short silence. "He is the coolest and I love him, but I never really… loved him loved him, you know?"

Kara furrowed her brow "you weren't in love?"

"Well I'd be lying to say I wasn't attracted to him. It's just-" Lena sighed "there was missing something. The something that makes you think about someone constantly, love someone for their mistakes, that makes your heart ache every time you part with them."

Kara felt shivers through her spine. She felt that, exactly that as she looked at her best friend. Lena turned her head and they locked eyes.

"I think I get it" Kara murmured. Then she had to remind herself of the mission.

"Lena, I have to tell you something." The second she said the words, Kara knew what they sounded like given the context. 'Timing, Kara' Kara thought as she doomed herself. Lena furrowed a brow.

"Lena, I'm Supergirl" Kara panted.

Lena's eyes widened as if she had expected Kara to say something else. Admit something else.

"I know" she said after a while. "Lex told me before I shot him."

"You're not angry?" Kara asked cautiously.

Lena laughed. "I was mad because you didn't trust me, yes. But I know how hard it is- to expose yourself." What was different in this universe? Why was Lena's reaction so different?

Kara sighed in relief.

"Don't get me wrong, I was quite angry because of the betrayal. However I am glad you came… you were true with me in the end."

"I am so sor-" Kara began to say when Lena hugged her tightly. Sparkles everywhere Kara held Lena close. She smelled Lena's scent and her touch felt so warm and electric. It had been a while that she hugged Lena. Kara didn't notice the tear rolling down her face before it dropped on Lena's blouse. She gasped and tugged Lena tighter. Lena was clearly surprised by the passionate hug but she did thoroughly enjoy it. As they parted Kara led her hands slip along Lena's arms to her hands.

"I never wanted to hurt you, but I did and I don't know how to make up for that."

"Kara." Lena touched her cheek gently.

"I don't want to lose you, Lena" Kara gasped, tears rolling down her face.

Lena gently dried them with her thumbs, placing her second hand on Kara's other cheek. Holding her face, Lena suddenly smiled. Kara furrowed her brows questioningly.

"How could I have been fooled by a pair of glasses?" Lena laughed.

Then they both laughed a little. Kara observed Lena's lips smile, the small dimples and the little wrinkles by her eyes when she laughed. Her heart skipped a beat or two and Kara was fazed by Lena's beauty. She could have left the universe by now - but she didn't want to. Here she had Lena by her side and Kara wasn't lying. She didn't want to lose her. So she gave in and decided to stay a while telling herself it was some kind of break she needed. Kara just smiled at the brunette admiring her dark hair and her green eyes.

"Why" Lena laughed a little "why are you watching me like this?"

"I just missed you so much."

Lena took Kara's hand. "I'm here now."
