"End simulation" Kara said with teary eyes. She watched the Lena who she confessed her love to disappear into thin air. It hurt so much although this was not her Lena. This was the Lena she could have had a future with, though.

Being torn back to her universe and her reality Kara needed a moment or two to process all of this, to explore her feelings and to understand what it meant. So she decided to go fly somewhere since that always helped her clear the mind. She had spent days in the simulation but there has passed only a single day in reality. Kara started off of her open window and shot in the air. She wasn't even wearing her suit. Tears fell down to the ground as she flew higher and higher. The air was already thin as she stopped. She was almost in space and she felt the cold. It comforted her to see Earth like this. It reminded her of when she first arrived. Earth was her refuge. After losing everything, this beautiful planet became a second chance, a new home and her life. She took a few breaths before slowly flying back to the ground. However she didn't fly to National City - she wanted to see Valencia in real life. She knew the alternate universe was exact, so everything would be the same. But she wanted parts of her simulation to come true. She made sure to land somewhere hidden and safe before entering the doors of "Hotel Las Arenas Balneario". She remembered how she walked in with Lena. She didn't want to be seen by the personnel so she inconspicuously walked to the bar in which she had sung with the guys. Lena had watched her so excitedly. She wanted to relive that moment so bad.
It was weird: part of Kara had expected her feelings to disappear after returning to reality or at least go back to like it was before the trip. But no. The longing for Lena and her love was very much present. Her phone rang and Kara read Alex' name on the screen.
"Hey Alex" she said in a monotone voice.
"Hey - Kara? I tried calling you because I haven't heard from you all day... are you OK?"
"Yeah...I had some thinking to do, that's all. I'm sorry for not answering your calls" Kara responded.
"Where even are you? I knocked at your apartment but nobody is here. I was thinking maybe we could do a movie night."
Kara scratched the back of her head as she walked beside the swimming pool where she almost kissed Lena for the first time. Or was going to.
She cleared her throat "In Spain."
"W-why are you in Spain?"
"Why wouldn't I - beautiful country."
Alex remained silent for a moment. "OK, I noticed you had a lot on your mind and that the thing with Lena stresses you out, but you can talk to me, Kara. We can go through this together" Alex offered.
"I know that I can, Alex, and that's really sweet of you...but I feel like I need to get my thoughts sorted on my own first."

Lena sat in her chair at L-Corp, a glass of red wine in front of her. She didn't want to but she thought about Kara - or Supergirl.
she clenched her fist around the glass when her mind drifted back to the betrayal. The worst thing wasn't that she was Supergirl but that she was dishonest. She trusted her while she clearly didn't. You can't trust liars, that's what her father taught her very soon. You simply can't know what else they're lying about - only that they're capable of doing it to you. Kara was very capable. How could Lena be sure anything Kara ever did was honest? Was their friendship even real. The thought of it made Lena clench her fist so hard, the glass broke and cut her hand.
She didn't even notice the extra pain of the hurt hand because her whole person was hurting so much. She still stood up to clean the cut and throw away the broken glass. When she was just about to let the glass fall into the garbage can she hesitated. Out of nowhere the glass reminded her of Kara and her. Maybe the friendship was broken- like the glass, but the feelings were still there- like the wine in the upper half of the glass. She didn't want to admit it, but even although she hated Kara for what she did and she couldn't trust her - the memories of the wonderful time they had didn't just vanish. Just like her feelings, her care and her need for Kara. She wouldn't be able to use any of it though. The trust was broken. Her heart was broken. The glass was broken, so she tipped the wine in to the sink and let the two halves of the glass fall into the can. A tear followed the glass and dropped on the round surface.

Kara had spent the night on the beach where she first had the courage to kiss Lena. The kiss was divine. The next morning she flew back to National City. She knew that she was going to have to find peace in the thought of a Her and Lena somewhere. An imagination of a perfect togetherness maybe in a small town in Serbia where she will probably never go find them. But she couldn't say that it didn't hurt like a dagger in her chest. It just didn't feel fair. However she was used to unfair: losing your family, your home, your planet just isn't fair. Loving someone and not be able to be loved isn't fair. Being left behind by everyone isn't fair. Her family left her, Mon-El left her, Lena left her. As she crossed the Atlantic she couldn't hold the tears back anymore. Kara felt like a self-destructive teenager who wants to start smoking to punish themself. But she had a responsibility to the world. Kara wasn't able to do with herself what she wanted to because she wasn't only responsible to herself but to a whole city and further. In that moment she hated being Supergirl - if she wasn't maybe she could have stayed Lena's friend.
Still- Supergirl saved countless people including Lena. So Kara stopped herself from thinking and instead focused her thoughts on the safe haven:

"You like this movie?" Lena reassured not understanding. They were watching The Breakfast Club.
"Yes. Love it. You will, too" Kara answered and squeezed Lena's hand, that she was holding. She traced the engagement ring on Lena's hand with her finger.
"You like it? The person who gave me this is quite a hottie, you know?" Lena asked smiling.
"Can't imagine - I bet she has bad taste in movies, too" Kara said laughingly. Lena took her hand and placed a kiss on its back.
"If my fiancée likes the movie - it has to be good."
"Mhm" Kara mumbled as she leaned her head against Lena's shoulder.

Kara had closed her eyes as she imagined her safe haven. So she didn't notice that she was getting dangerously near to a plane - NOT wearing her suit. The sound of the plane's engine startled her out of her thoughts. She was so shocked by the nearness of a jet and started to imagine scenarios of photos of her, Kara Danvers, flying being leaked to the public. The frightened Kryptonian was so relieved to read the jet's inscription: L-Corp. She still didn't know how to react. She felt her phone in her Jacket vibrate. Lena called her. Lena...

"Are you out of your mind?" the CEO yelled through the phone.
"Hey Lena"
"What did you think you're doing to just fly around like this?" Lena couldn't ever have imagined saying these words to her friend Kara only a few months ago.
"I- well I was-" Kara didn't know what to say.
"If you're so eager to show your identity to the world how come you needed so much time to tell me?" Lena asked bitterly.
"I am not eager to - Lena I didnt - " Kara stumbled. She was flying next to the jet and now neared herself to one of the windows. She was relieved to see that there were no other passengers. She still wasn't being cautious enough, though. The pilot could have seen her.
"Where are you flying to?" Kara asked in the phone but looked Lena in her bright green eyes.
"Spain - I have a business meeting in Valencia" Lena answered. How could the simulation have known that, Kara asked herself. Maybe there was more to it than it seemed.
"I've literally just been there" Kara said excitedly. Lena didn't show any excitement. She was stern and unemotional. The usual shimmer in her eyes every time she saw Kara had vanished. These gorgeous green eyes held back a lot of emotions. Lena was angry, hurt, vulnerable, disappointed but... still full of care and love for her friends...who betrayed her.
"What a coincidence" Lena simply stated. It hurt Kara to the point of almost crying as she felt her friend's disinterest.
"Well...enjoy Las Arenas Balneario while staying" she said, totally unaware of that Lena didn't tell her about the hotel.
"How did- how did you know I was staying there?" Lena asked skeptically.
Kara's eyes widened. The simulation had told her.
"Oh, I just assumed" Kara lied. There she was - lying again. Kara was so angry about herself that she didn't notice she was flying a lot higher than the jet.
"I guess this means you're leaving my view now" Lena said. The intention wasn't clear.
Kara flew back to her window.
"I just got lost in thought" she explained. "I will leave you, though, if you want" Kara said hoping Lena wouldn't want.
"Thank you" Lena answered.
Kara bit her lower lip and nodded.
"Have a good flight and stay in Valencia" she blurted into the phone before hanging up to fly away because the tears didn't stop rolling and she didn't want Lena to see.

"Kara, there you are" Alex welcomed her sister as Kara walked into Alex' apartment. Kara looked exhausted. Alex hugged her tightly.
"How has your trip been?" she asked.
"I met Lena" Kara said "in the air."
"How about you tell me the whole story on the couch? I bought pot stickers" Alex offered. She made Kara smile and they sat down where Kara told Alex about the simulation without telling her anything that happened in it and how she went to Valencia to clear her mind and maybe because she hoped to see Lena. Alex tugged Kara's hand. The sisters made eye-contact and Kara sighed.
"I'm glad to have you, Alex" she said "Lena doesn't have anybody left."
"First, I am glad, too and Lena could have all of us if she wanted."
"But she thinks she doesn't."
"You know I believe feelings don't vanish just because circumstances do" Alex started to explain. "So if the world was different, I mean like if you hadn't come to my family or never met Lena, everything would be different, except for the feelings. So I believe if we ever met then, we would always end up being sisters and love each other and you and Lena would always be best friends and love each other."
Kara lowered her gaze. Something about what Alex said had made her feel sad and hopeful at the same time.
To change the subject after Alex noticed Kara's change in demeanor she told Kara about the 'cat-eater' and how she got along very well with a cop who investigated the case.
"You know, at first I was not too fond of teaming up with the National City Police Department, but Officer Papadopoulos is hilarious. AND really handsome... if it wasn't for Kelly I would be totally smitten for this man!" Alex excitedly told Kara.
"Wow I didn't know you were attracted to..."
"Me neither. But he feels like an exception - like when straight girls have only one woman they're really attracted to."
Kara smiled - but wait. The simulation had shown Alex married to a guy. A greek guy.
"Hey...Papadopoulos sounds Greek, doesn't it?" she asked trying not to be suspicious. Alex remained silent for a moment thinking. "Yeah...I think Aeneas sounds Greek too. That's his first name by the way."
Oh my god, Kara thought to herself, Aeneas is her alternate-universe-husband.
