"WHOOA" Kelly exclaimed as Kara lifted her about 10 feet in the air.
"OK that's high enough" Alex decided and waved them back down.
When Kara landed, she turned to Alex and then held her head crooked.
"WHat?" Kelly asked laughing.
"How did you know I could - ehm I could fly, Kelly?" she asked her then.
Alex gasped. They were shocked at first but then started to fall into laughter again. "People get weird when they're drunk" Kara mumbled to herself.
"Also hopefully forgetful" she thought.

Lena enjoyed the water drops on her skin as she showered. Showering cleared her mind sometimes. After being taken back to her wonderful time in Belgrade last year, she needed to feel something on her skin right now there in Valencia. She remembered how she always wanted to tell Kara about this business trip, about the singer and the new friend she made there. She never got to. Now she wouldn't want Kara to know about her safe haven. Lena stepped out of the shower and dried her feet with a towel so the floor wouldn't get wet. She had to more meetings the next day and another one the day after. She was furious at the contributor who dealt with the dubious companies. Lena never would have supported this connection if she had known, but they knew how to keep things under her radar. To clear things up to the public she was working on a statement to give on next week's press conference. With a towel tugged around her she left the luxurious bathroom and walked through her suite in the hotel. As much as she tried, she couldn't stop thinking about how Kara knew about the hotel which was basically an excuse to think about her. So she lay back on her bed and dived back into her memory of Belgrade...

Kris had accompanied her up to the apartment she was staying in. As it had cooled down a lot he had given her his leather jacket which exposed his muscular arms. Lena couldn't stop her from glancing on his biceps from time to time.
"This is it" she said as they stood in front of the building. Kris smiled at her but he also looked sad.
"What's wrong?"
"I am very sad our ways part now. I enjoyed this evening with you, Lena."
"So did I..." Lena admitted.
"I can only hope you will visit Belgrade...or us...some time again" Kris added.
Lena sighed.
"You know, what you said about this illusion of a perfect place back in the small town..."
"The safe haven?"
"Exactly. I believe that this is mine. Coming back here with you guys, listening to Senidah and drinking Rakija" Lena confessed.
"It doesn't have to be an illusion, Lena."
"I can't be here forever, though. I have a home with responsibilities, friends and..." Lena stopped as she thought of one friend in particular "...people who I love."
Kris nodded and sighed, too.
"It is very sad to me, though. I am sure we could have been people who love each other, not just you who loves somebody. If you understand" he tried to explain.
Lena locked eyes with him. She knew he meant that with him, love would never be one-sided. It would be very strange to explain to anybody the kind of connection she had made to this man. They had only met a few hours ago, but she knew exactly: if she stayed, she would love him. And maybe she would have. Maybe she would have turned her back on any responsibilities, any friends or companies...if she hadn't already loved someone. If she hadn't have Kara.
So she took Kris' hand and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek.
"In this safe haven you have, I would have stayed and we would have moved to this small town you talked about. This will be my safe haven now, too."

Kara opened her eyes and felt sick. Daylight was too bright and she rushed to the bathroom, thinking she had to throw up. She didn't, and thanks to the yellow sun and her alien genes she felt better and stronger second to second. Kara felt disgusted by her own behavior and guilty for being so irresponsible. She noticed a text message from Alex and sped to her phone.
Are you OK? Kelly doesn't remember anything... `:)

She answered 'yes' and that she was glad. She went to her drawers and watched the photos that stood there in their frames. This time no wedding photos of Alex and Aeneas. She took a photo of her and Lena and carried it to her couch, where she sat down and felt miserable. Not because of the booze but because of the burning pain in her chest whenever she thought of Lena.
"You shouldn't feel pain when you think of loved ones" Kara said to herself. In the photo Lena had one arm wrapped around Kara's hips as they smiled side by side into the camera. Kara had her arm wrapped around Lena's shoulders and tugged her tight to her side.
Kara thought back to the night before and how she was disgusted by herself. How she had become some person who she didn't like: incautious, sad, desperate and irresponsible.
"You shouldn't sit here in misery and wait for nothing to change so that you can be miserable forever!" Kara scolded herself. She needed to get out of the hole of pity and misery she had dug. Alternate-universe-Lena had given her the safe haven to find peace, not hide from her thoughts and it wasn't an excuse to do nothing.
"You and Lena might not get to be together the way you wished, but you are best friends!" she continued to motivate herself for a change. She stood up and stormed out of her apartment into the air.
After seeing how she damaged herself doing nothing it was easy to find reasons to change something. So she headed towards Spain, Valencia.

Lena let out a sigh of relief when she exited the building where the second meeting had taken place. Her lawyers had found evidence of her innocence in the case of the dubious companies and her contributor. She was happy for a moment and looked forward to relaxing the rest of the day. How could she have predicted the unwanted company she was going to receive.

"Lena."
Lena. A simple word - her name. Why did it have to sound so alluring when she said it?
"Kara, what are you doing here? Coming back for more of the beautiful city after your last stay here?"
"No, actually I came for you" Kara told her honestly. They were standing right in the middle of the side-way, so Lena made a gesture to follow her.
"Let's take a walk in the park nearby" she suggested. Kara nodded thankfully. Lena really knew this city and orientated herself perfectly. She led them to a pretty park with benches and a few people doing sports in it. When Kara noticed a slug right in front of them on the way, she bend down to pick it up and carry to the other side of the way.
"Wow, you really have to play the hero for slugs, too?" Lena stated condescendingly.
"No, I mean...I like slugs" Kara answered.
"How can you like them? They're gross and sticky."
"Yeah but we didn't have any on..." Kara stopped and swallowed the name of her home planet. Lena stopped walking for a moment and watched her ex-best friend.
"Krypton?"
She continued walking after Kara nodded insecurely.
Then Kara took a deep breath and gripped Lena's arm softly to make her stay.
"Lena..."
Again, the gentleness in the way Kara pronounced her name made Lena almost shiver.
"I know I've been cruel to you by betraying you just like everyone else did. I know I did the one thing you needed me to never do. I know I didn't have the right to decide about your safety and that in the end it was cowardice that made me not tell you my real identity. I know all that and that I will have to accept that you will never forgive me for that. But Lena" Kara almost whispered her name. She was trying hard to keep her composure and not to break into tears. Kara tugged Lena to the side of the way. The birds chirped loudly.
"...I may be Supergirl, yes. But I'm also Kara Zor-El, a Kryptonian, an alien, a refugee. I know you probably know the story of Supergirl - but do you know mine? Do you know what it was like for me to lose everyone? I know you have lost people, too, but doesn't that make it easier to understand how the sheer thought of losing another loved one can make you so anxious? SO ANXIOUS that I tried to avoid risking it so much that I became a liar and a coward, not just to keep you safe but also to keep myself calm. I mean, I mean..." tears rolled out of Kara's blue eyes. It hurt Lena seeing her like this. Like a broken and vulnerable puppy. Lena couldn't deny her want to tug Kara in for a hug and kiss her temple and tell her everything was alright - but she couldn't. She couldn't stand watching the person she loved be this way either. She looked at her feet.
"NO, please, please look at me, Lena" Kara begged her and lifted Lena's head gently by cupping her chin with two fingers. They locked eyes and Lena felt electricity spread from Kara's fingers on her chin and Kara's other hand on her arm. Kara's eyes were teary but so sincere.
"Lena, I NEVER meant to hurt you - but I did and believe me I hate myself so much for that. I wish I had the chance to make it differently and just be honest with you from the beginning. Believe me, I have thought about it so much."
Lena watched the teardrops fall from Kara's chin. Lena was hurting, too. She felt the grip on her arm get tighter. Kara hadn't let go of her chin.
She swallowed and lowered her gaze, before she looked up again and said:

"I believe you."

Sooo, next chapter is already in progress and soon to be published. I hope you like how the story is going and that you will like my idea of how this story will continue and end (because I do hahah). There will be at least two more chapters, though.
