Hey back with another chapter. Hope you all enjoy. A few people were took what I said about demigods being stronger than the Dragonborn the wrong way last chapter. They will be physically stronger and stronger in their respective gifts but the Dragonborn is still going to be very OP at the end of this story. He's just not going to start that way. After all this is a story about his journey and how he will gain the strength needs to face Alduin.

I woke up to a blinding headache. When my eyes opened they were immediately assaulted by the bright morning light, sending a spike through my head.

With a grunt I immediately clenched my eyes shut again.

"Sam! You're awake!" Someone was speaking to me, I could make out the words but when my eyes opened all I could see was a blur and a vague shape.

I blinked a few times before my vision started to clear. Annabeth was standing over me. She looked like she was recently crying, her eyes were puffy and red and she looked tired, like she hadn't slept in days.

"You've been unconscious for a whole day. I thought you were going to die!" She sobbed. She then leapt on top of me and started hugging me. I winced, my chest felt like it was on fire.

Annabeth quickly leapt off of me. "I'm sorry. I'm just really happy you're okay." A warm feeling came to my chest. I wasn't used to people caring about me this much.

I tried to form words, but all that came out was a pathetic croak. My throat felt like a desert.

Annabeth seemed to know what I wanted however as a cup of water was brought up to my mouth.

My hands immediately clutched the cup and I drank the water as fast as I could. Once the cup was drained I gave it back to her and let my arms fall limp besides me again.

Annabeth was fidgeting for a minute before she spoke. " I'm going to go get the others. I'll be right back Sam." I just gave her a tired nod and she immediately fled in search of the others.

I used the time that gave me to inspect my surroundings.

I was in a tent of some sort. It was fairly large, easily big enough for a full grown man to stand and it fit the cot I was laying on comfortably. In fact two or three more just like it could easily fit the space. Other than my cot the place was sparsely furnished, there was a small table beside me that had a glass of water, a few bandages and a pair of scissors. There was also a chest on the floor, otherwise there was nothing else.

I sat up with a grunt and gently put my feet on the floor. I then began to unwrap the bandages on my chest so I could inspect the damage.

I was only about halfway done when the tent flap opened and Thalia and Luke walked in. Both had relieved smiles on their faces. It vanished when they saw what I was doing. "Sam! Stop!" Thalia cried. She quickly closed the distance to me and grabbed me hands.

Without giving me a chance to question her, she brought be into a hug. It was a lot softer than the one Annabeth gave me earlier so I atleast wasn't in so much pain.

Once she stepped back however her gaze immediately hardened. " Don't ever do that again. We thought you were going to die Sam."

I averted my gaze and muttered a half-hearted apology. It worked though. We all made it out in one piece. If the cost of that was a little pain, I could live with it.

Luke spoke next. "You really gave us a scare there little man. I'm glad you're okay. " He put a hand on my hair before messing it up playfully.

I ducked away from him with a smile and tried to carry on undoing the bandages. Thalia immediately smacked my hands away.

"What did I say? You need to leave those on."

I pouted. " I want to see how bad it is."

Thalia hesitated for a second before moving to help. " Stand still, I'll do it."

She gently removed the bandages leaving my chest bare.

My pale skin was marred by three lines, each went from my left shoulder down to my right hip. They were already healed over, leaving them pink and inflamed, but the cuts looked like they were deep.

My mouth opened and closed a few times before I found my voice. "H-how am I alive?" I whispered.

Thalia was looking at my chest like she had seen a ghost. She snapped out of it when I asked my question though. Her eyes met mine. "The Hunters of Artemis were apparently in the area. They heard the fighting and then took care of the rest of the monsters. We didn't know where you were but Artemis... teleported to you before bringing you back to the camp. One of the Hunters is a daughter of Apollo. She healed you."

Then Annabeth spoke." Not that she wan-"

" Annabeth!" Thalia snapped." This isn't the time. "

Annabeth didn't look happy but relented.

I eyed them both. It looked like there was a story there and judging from the look on Annabeths face it wasn't a good one.

I chose to ignore it however.

" How long have I been out?" I asked. My voice sounded noticeably better.

Thalia answered. " We were attacked yesterday."

Only one day? My chest looked like it had been healing for weeks. 'That's the power of healing from a daughter of Apollo I suppose.'

" I should thank Artemis and the girl that healed me."

Luke grimaced. "That might not be the best idea. The Hunters of Artemis are not exactly... fond... of males."

They weren't? I wouldn't know, I didn't really know anything about them before today.

"But they still saved me."

Luke looked grim. " Thalia and Annabeth begged them. Even then Artemis didn't look like she wanted to do anything. It was only after you...did whatever you did that she flashed to you. "

What I did? What did I do? I tried to think back but all I could remember was pain, shouting and that girl just before I passed out. That must of been Artemis.

" What did I d-"

" I see thy is finally awake." Luke jumped at the voice. Not that I could blame him, I didn't notice the girl enter the tent either.

The girl looked about Luke's age. She had dark brown hair and eyes like coal. On her head she wore a silver tiara that contrasted greatly with her copper skin and brown hair. She also had a pair of large knives sheathed on her waist that she wore comfortably. When she looked at me it felt like I was being assessed by a predator.

"Come along boy." She sneered.

"My Lady wants to speak to you." The girl didn't even give me a chance to reply before she walked back out of the tent.

'It looks like Luke was telling the truth about how they feel about males.'

I noticed Thalia and Annabeth were giving the girl dark looks. Thalia was quick to explain however. "That's Zoe. She's the lieutenant of the hunters. Apparently she's second in command around here." She paused, considering before speaking. "It doesn't seem like you need the bandages anymore. Annabeth grab his clothes out of the chest. We shouldn't keep Lady Artemis waiting."

When I walked out of the tent I was in awe. In place of our makeshift camp that was composed of four sleeping bags and a firepit, was a sprawling camp made up of atleast fifty tents.

As I walked through I could see the place was bustling with activity. There were girls everywhere talking among themselves, patrolling, sparring or shooting arrows at targets. There were also massive wolves, some that looked as tall as Thalia that were accompanying the hunters everywhere.

I stopped for a second to watch as one girl readied to shoot an arrow at a target. Their skill with a bow was supposed to be legendary and I wanted to see it. She stopped her shot however and sent me a look of absolute loathing. The huge black wolf next to her also started growling and snarling at me.

I quickly averted my gaze and quickened my steps. Thalia squeezed my shoulder and Annabeth tightened her grip on my hand. She hadn't let go of it since I was first properly dressed.

In the center of the camp there was a large fire burning with the biggest boar I had ever seen roasting over it. There was a young girl about my age tending to the flames. She caught me looking but instead of a glare she rewarded me with a smile. She radiated so much warmth that for a second I forgot my worries and I found myself smiling back.

Grover was also sitting near the fire. He was staring at the biggest tent there, the one Zoe was standing in front of. If I didn't know any better I would say he was swooning.

My attention was brought away by the sound of a clearing throat. Zoe didn't look happy. I guess we had reached Artemis. I suddenly found my hands very sweaty.

"My lady said she only wants to see the boy." She said to Thalia. It was as if she had dismissed me completely.

Thalia however wasn't having any of it. "Like hell. He's not going in there alone." I could feel the grip on my shoulder tighten.

Zoe looked like she was having a hard time controlling her temper. She was very tense and her hands were straying close to her daggers. "These are my ladies orders." She said through gritted teeth.

When Thalia started reaching for her weapon I knew I had to intervene. "Thals. " I said while taking her hand off my shoulder. I turned towards her and gave it a squeeze. "It's okay."

That seemed to pull the wind from her sails. She immediately deflated. "Sam w-"

"She's an Olympian Thalia. If she wants to see me alone, there's no other choice."

She hesitated. I could see how badly she wanted to say no but in the end she must of known there wasn't any other choice because her shoulders sagged and she relented. "We'll be right here. Just... be respectful. Okay?" She said.

I gave her the most calming smile I could. If she noticed how shaky it was she chose not to mention it. "I will."

She quickly pulled me into a hug. " I'm glad you're okay Sam." She whispered. It was almost like she was trying to reassure herself that I was here. I know that Thalia once had a younger brother. She had mentioned Jason once or twice but I had always been afraid of asking what had happened to him. Of asking if I was his replacement.

I hugged her back. Annabeth was quick to join in and with a laugh I also wrapped her into my arms. Thalia grabbed Luke and pulled him into the hug too. When I pulled back my eyes were wet. I wiped them with my hands before looking back at Thalia. She gave me a watery smile and ushered me forward.

The inside of the tent was a lot more furnished than the one I woke up in. There were trophies of all sorts of creatures decorating the walls. There were claws, horns, pelts and images painted from some of the goddesses more successful hunts.

I paused to look more closely at one of the images. It showed a girl with a bow facing off against a giant lion. In the image the beast dwarfed over the girl but judging by the second image of the girl skinning it, the lion never stood a chance.

Overall the place was impressive to look at. I'm sure it would be the envy of hunters everywhere.

"So, it's you. " The voice startled me. Whipping around I found a girl standing in front of a small fire in the corner of the tent. She was just staring into the flames. I was shocked I didn't notice her earlier. The presence she gave off just screamed power.

" Lady Artemis?" I cringed at how shaky my voice was.

The girl turned around and I got my first proper look at her. My first thought was that she was pretty, no pretty didn't do her any justice. She was divine. It was easy to believe she was a goddess. Her eyes were the color of the moon. A silver that almost seemed to glow the same way as a full moon on a clear night. She looked about the same age as Thalia but she was taller. Despite her young appearance however I knew she was ancient.

She looked me up and down. Unlike most of her hunters she didn't sneer, she had more self control than that, but I could still see her judging me. By the frown on her face she found me lacking.

"You don't bow?" Her voice carried power and a note of intrigue. As if she didn't know what to make of me. Despite the power, I found that I felt more at peace when she spoke than I had in a long time. It seemed to reach a deeper part of me.

There was a flash of hunting besides a woman in facepaint, her running with wolves and me walking away and a regret so deep it pierced my very soul.

As quick as it came it faded. But it's remnants would haunt me for years to come.

I had to be respectful and answer quickly. I knew I was supposed to bow when in the presence of an Olympian, but my very being screamed not to. Screamed that I would bow to NO ONE!

"I-I-"

Artemis must of taken pity on me or just thought I was idiotic because she interrupted me. " Do not fear boy. I mean you no harm."

When I finally found my voice there was a question that had been digging at me.

"Why did you answer me?" I blurted.

"When you prayed? " She asked with a glint in her eye.

"Yes." I nodded

She started circling me as she spoke. It reminded me of a wolf assessing it's prey.

"I was curious. My hunters were in the area. I told them to save your friends while I came to see the boy that would be desperate enough to pray to me."

I cringed at the last part. Yup definitely doesn't like males. She still saved my life however. She can also kill me any time she wanted. I fought against every instinct I had.

I bowed deep and low. "You have my eternal gratitude my lady. "

When I pulled back up Artemis was looking at me with her head slightly tilted. It was as if she was desperately trying to read me but came back with nothing.

She quickly shook her head and turned around. "Follow me." She said while turning around and walking towards the back of the tent

I gulped wondering if this is where she would take me outside for hunting practice. But nevertheless I followed her.

While walking through the forest I noticed that her steps were light. Incredibly light actually. I couldn't hear a sound as we walked.

Artemis also seemed to know exactly where we were going. Never slowing down or hesitating once.

"Who are your parents boy?" She asked breaking the silence of the last few minutes.

"I was hoping you could tell me that." I said with a frown. She didn't know either?

She considered me for a second. " At first glance I would think you were one of my brother's with your blue eyes and blond hair. But you don't have the same feel."

"Feel my lady?" I asked with my eyebrows drawn up.

"Which brings us to the reason of our walk." She said walking into a clearing.

It clearly wasn't a clearing until recently. But from where we were standing there was a twenty foot gap where there was just nothing but soil. There was then maybe a hundred feet more that was completely wrecked. Trees were blown out of the ground the entire way.

I noticed there was blood on the tree I was next to. This is where I was last night.

"W-What happened here?"I asked with a tremble in my voice. Something about this seemed familiar.

" You tell me." Artemis said while eyeing me carefully.

I paused to take a breath. "I- I did something last night, I know I did. I just I didn't know what it did."

Artemis considered my answer for a minute. "The words. Do you remember the words you shouted."

I could. "Yes."

She turned to face the clearing. "Shout them again. "

I was nervous. But walked a few feet in front of her and prepared myself. It was instinctive.

"FUS ROH DAH"

I felt the wave of force blow out of my mouth I saw some trees that were on the floor blow even further away.

But then I felt the drain. It felt as if my very being was drained away. The feeling quickly started getting better however.

Artemis was staring at me now. She was looking at me so intensely I thought she was going to vaporize me at any second.

She quickly turned however and started walking back to camp.

I didn't move however. "Wait? That's it?! What was that?!"

Artemis carried on walking. " I do not know. I will go to Olympus later and find out. Tell your friends that if they do not wish to join me you must vacate my camp immediately and make your way to camp half-blood. Now shield your eyes. "

I quickly did as I was told. There was a flash of incredibly bright light.

When I opened my eyes again she was gone.

Mount Olympus

Artemis was old. She was ancient. But more than that, she was smart. So it wasn't very often that she was completely unsure what to do. But that boy...

"Artemis!" Boomed Zeus, king of the Olympians. "Why did you call a meating?"

Without wasting any time Artemis started to speak. "I met a boy today."

"You met a boy? "Aphrodite interrupted with a laugh.

Before I could take the bait however my father spoke. " Silence Aphrodite. Let Artemis speak."

I gave Zeus a nod. "Thank you father. I met a boy today. He did something I had never seen before."

Athena leaned forward in her seat. "What did he do?"

"He shouted three words and destroyed a large section of the forest. The magic... It felt raw... Untamed... powerful. I've never seen anything like that before. "

Zeus looked confused for a second but a glance to Athena showed she had something on her mind and was thinking about it deeply.

" What is it sister? "I asked.

The entire council was looking at Athena now." I believe the fateless has come. "

The entire council erupted. Everyone tried to speak.

" Silence!" Zeus boomed while slamming the master bolt onto the floor.

Once everyone was calm he spoke again. "What makes you think that Athena?"

"Let me first remind everyone of the prophecy I found in that book so very long ago."

She cleared her throat before she spoke.

"When magic hides from those without.

When war has plagued the world brought on by the children of the three.

When innocence fights off the darkness.

When sacred vows have been broken and time starts to stir.

When the King of the Dead demands revenge from Justice.

The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn. "

Athena gave the words a moment to settle in." As you can see the prophecy is talking about a person who is going to come and the events that will happen first. It says nothing about what he will do. They always talk about what a hero will do but here they don't. He's fateless. The fates have no power over him. "

The entire throne room was completely silent before Apollo chimed in." How do you know that's even a real prophecy. I sure as hell didn't give it. "

Athena eyed him carefully." I've been doing research on the book and prophecy since the day I found it. This was on father's orders. The book has been around longer than we have. It's also protected by incredibly strong magic. Magic that feels different to any I know of. The only reason I could translate it was because of the other sites and books I found. Besides every line has been completed."

Athena started pacing around the throne room. "The wizards went into hiding centuries ago. We also hide from most mortals. That completes the first line. The children of three were your children that started World War 2. Innocence fighting off the darkness refers to the wizards. Harry Potter a one year old defeated the darkest wizard of all time a few years ago. The vows being broken refers to you father. You've broken them twice now. "

I noticed father flush slightly. I chose this moment to interrupt however. "The boy was with your daughter father. There were furies there. Hades wants to kill her. That's the next line. It must be him. "

I saw Zeus sag into his chair slightly. "But who is the World-Eater?"

Athena glanced around the room. " There were other artifacts atleast as old as that book that I also found. Most were centered around Europe. I found a site a few hundred years ago. Also extremely old and preserved by strange magic. It had a mural of a large black dragon that was referred to as the World-Eater. This being apparently dominated over men until they learned to shout, like what you described Artemis. Their voices contained power. The mural then showed 3 people who beat him with a shout. "

Zeus didn't look happy." So we might need this boy then if the World-Eater truly wakes. "

Athena grimaced. " Father it doesn't say whether or not he kills Alduin. "

Zeus looked grim."Then he must be taught to do so. Besides a boy who is not mortal but has no fate? He might be able to help us with the great prophecy. He might be able to stop it."

Zeus stroked his chin." The boy needs to be trained. He needs to learn all that he can."

I spoke up again." He's going to the camp father. "

Zeus shook his head." No, he's not one of our children. We can interact with him without breaking the Ancient Laws and with no pantheon of his own... This is too good an opportunity. He must be trained as well as he can. He can be a powerful weapon for Olympus. Artemis the boy will go to camp for now but you will be overseeing his training soon. I want you to observe his growth. Make him loyal to Olympus and get him ready for the great prophecy. "

" Father! "I cried." Why must I do this? He is a male! Why can't Athena rather train him? "

Zeus had made up his mind however.

" You already have experience training others because of those hunters of yours. You also spend the most time around the camp and have already met the boy. Athena will be doing more research. She will be finding out everything she can about this... Dragonborn. Have I made myself clear, Artemis?" He was almost daring me to challenge him at the end.

" Yes, my king. "I replied through gritted teeth.

Zeus watched me carefully, before he finally nodded. He then stood up and banged his bolt against the floor. "Good then everyone is dismissed. "

I hope you all enjoyed the chapter. Remember criticism is welcome as long as it's constructive. I do try and take what everybody says into account.
