A/N: Hi there! Yesterday just got away from me. This chapter was already nearly publish-ready, but I couldn't find the time to post it before now. There is only one more Taking Care of Parker chapter after this, which will be short and sweet.
Thank you Kareneb and Mphs95 for your faithful reviews. I am very grateful for your responses.
Groceries
Doing groceries during lunchtime was always such a hassle. She would have to hurry to get to the store and drop the bought items back at Booth's apartment. Unfortunately, there was no other way to do this, with Parker having his soccer training and having to pick him up. It was lucky that Caroline didn't mind that Lilly leaving early to pick up Parker from school. As Caroline had worded it; there was no way she could say no when it concerned her favorite FBI agent's cute petit enfant. Lilly grabbed a cart as she started walking to the vegetable section. Maybe this was a good time to call Wendell. "Would you like to eat with us at Booth's place?"
"Sure, I would love too."
"Cool, I think we'll be back a little before 6 pm. Unfortunately, it won't be such an elaborate meal as for our uber-romantic dinner. I was thinking of making wraps with a salad on the side."
"Sounds good."
"So how did you sleep?"
"Not as good as usual on a Thursday," Wendell said.
Lilly snickered. "Me neither. It's weird that we're already missing that even though we've only started staying over three weeks ago."
"I agree. I am going to kick Booth's ass Saturday for making us miss our weekly mid-week sleepover."
Lilly chuckled. "Hey, he is allowing you to come over tonight, that should count for something. Besides, not that I don't think you're strong, but you might want to take into consideration that Booth has some top-secret moves that could haunt you."
"I know, but I can enjoy fantasizing about outsmarting him anyway."
"Of course, you can. Do you want me to bring back a snack or something for tonight?"
"No thanks. Unless you need stuff to be the snack."
Lilly smirked. "Well, I am always sweet, so that shouldn't be a problem. I'll see you tonight. I am almost at the checkout."
"Alright. Good luck at work, I'll be there at six."
Soccer training
"How was school today?" Lilly asked as they walked away from Parker's school.
"It was cool."
"Nothing special happened?"
Parker thought for a second. "Marc got sick. He puked on the playground and that made Lucy throw up too. It was like a puke chain." Parker said with a giant smile.
"Ah gross!" Lilly exclaimed, pulling up her nose.
"It was so cool. But Marc was really sick so his mom came and took him home."
"And the others stayed?"
Parker nodded. "Miss Joan said that they were sympathy puking."
"Probably," Lilly said. "Unless there was something wrong with the school lunch."
Parker shook his head. "No. Marc always brings his own lunch."
"Okay. Talking about food… Do you need a snack before your training starts?"
"No, thank you. I had an apple at the last break so I am good."
Lilly nodded. "Alright. So your dad texted me the address and there is a bus stop near the clubhouse."
"Yes, I know that one. But the bus almost never stops there."
"I am aware. There is like one bus per hour, but thankfully for us, the bus stops there 15 minutes before your training starts."
"Ah", Parker said. "Why don't you have a car? Or don't you know how to drive?"
Lilly smiled. "No, I do have a driver's license. Cars are expensive and parking places are scarce. I am almost always able to just take the subway. So I didn't see the use for my own car. I don't like busses though, so on our way home, we'll take a cab. I used to have a car back in New York."
Parker looked at her with big eyes. "You lived in New York? That is so cool!"
"I did. I was actually born in New York City and until my second year of high school, I lived there. Now my dad lives in upstate New York."
"You don't sound like a New Yorker."
Lilly grinned. "That's only because I don't drink coffee. I've been told that people can tell a Yorkie accent from how the word coffee is pronounced."
Parker shrugged as he didn't exactly know what made an accent but knowing he could tell there was one when he heard it.
There were a lot of parents or caregivers at soccer training. Between the crowd, Lilly thought she saw a familiar face. "Hi Genny", Lilly greeted as she had managed to make her way through the enthusiastic supporters.
"Hey..." Genny Shaw said shocked to see Lilly here, pulling down the coat of her two-year-old to cover his onesie a little better. "What are you doing here? You never told me you're a mom."
"That's because I am not. As you know, agent Booth is working that case in Pittsburgh and he does have a son. Number 5. Lilly added as she pointed to a running Parker on the field. This must be Danny right?" Lilly asked. "He's adorable."
"Yes and thank you", Genny said.
"So what brings you here? A nephew or something? Danny is a little young for soccer." Lilly asked, enjoying the chance to catch up with agent Shaw.
Genny turned bright red. "No, I started seeing Matt, he's the team's coach and he asked me to attend one of the trainings." She glanced in his general direction.
"That's great! I am so happy for you."
Genny blushed. "Yes, it is. But... We're still pretty new and I rather not have agent Booth know..."
Lilly grinned. Then she probably shouldn't come to any future games of Parker's team. "Don't worry about it. Nobody at the FBI even knows that you are Danny's mom. they won't hear it from me."
"Thanks." Genny thought back to her small break down a couple of months ago when Danny had gotten the flue and had kept her up all night. Lilly had asked her if she was alright and for some reason, she had told Lilly about her frustrations with her sick son. Shaw was always very careful to keep her private life away from her professional life. She wanted to be seen as the kick-ass FBI agent she was and not the single mom that needed adjustments to be able to work.
"I think it's great that your dating again."
Genny nodded. "He's really nice. Of course, I wasn't looking and I had told myself that Danny was the only guy I needed in my life, but Matt managed to wear down my defenses."
Lilly grinned. "That must mean that he is quite the persistent guy because from what I know about you, you're a though gall."
Genny smiled. "He is. You know, finding and trusting a guy while having a kid is pretty hard. We're still young enough to be completely unattached so pretty much every guy is shocked when you say you have a child."
"I can imagine."
After the training came to an end Matt jogged to Genny. As Lilly was able to make out his face she let out a wow under her breath. He was definitely handsome. Go Genny!
Matt gave Genny a kiss and gently stroked Danny's cheek. "So what did you think?" He gave Genny a bright smile.
"I don't know that much about soccer but I think the boys enjoyed every second of it," Genny said, rubbing his arm.
"Yeah if they get to run around they'll be happy. I was the same way at their age." Matt said, running his hand through his hair.
Lilly placed her hand on Genny's shoulder. "I better go and see how Parks is doing. See you at the Hoover sometimes."
Genny waved as Lilly retreated to the clubhouse.
"Who's that?" Matt asked.
"Lilly, she works for the justice department and is apparently currently taking care of my boss's son."
"Oh. Oh." Matt said. "I know you wanted to keep our relationship a secret for a little longer..."
"Yeah... She is very trustworthy though. Keeping secrets is literally in her job description. I just hasn't expected that Parker Booth played soccer, let alone in your team. Agent Booth is a fervent hockey player."
"Seeley is your boss?" Matt asked surprised.
Genny nodded as she cringed.
"What?"
"I am surprised you're using his first name, he prefers being called Booth."
"Ah. Well, he introduced himself to me as Seeley. He's a pretty cool guy, which I guess makes sense if he is FBI. He hardly misses Parker's games so if you want to keep us under his radar you might not want to watch the games on the weekends."
Genny nodded. "Probably."
Twister
After dinner had been eaten and Lilly and Wendell had finished cleaning up the kitchen, Lilly called out for Parker. "When I was staying here before I noticed that you have Twister."
Parker nodded. "My dad got me that game when I was three. He doesn't want to play it anymore though because of his bad back."
Wendell nodded. He once had seen Booth's X-ray 's by accident and Booth's back definitely had taken a couple of hits throughout the years.
"Do you still like the game though?" Lilly asked.
"Yes. My friends and I sometimes still play it. Usually when their parents tell us to stop playing computer games."
Wendell and Lilly smirked. They both had been told the same thing one time or another.
"You want to play it tonight?" Wendell asked Parker.
A broad smile broke through on Parker's face. "Can we?"
"Of course! It is my favorite game", Lilly said. "And I am definitely limber enough to beat you guys."
"Limber huh?" Wendell asked wiggling his eyebrows.
Lilly swatted his arm playfully. "Hush you."
Wendell and Lilly let themselves fall onto the couch after putting Parker to bed, sighing deeply. "That was fun right? Lilly asked looking at Wendell."
"Sure. You're great with him." Wendell complimented.
"Me? You playing twister with Parker; it was like watching a father play catch with a son."
Wendell smiled. "He is a fun kid. Watching you take care of Parker looked really natural too."
"Thanks. I am a professional after all." Lilly said with a smile and a shrug.
"Sure, but it doesn't feel like you're just working a job." Wendell wondered about Lilly's deflecting. "Does it scare you that it looks so effortless?"
Lilly paused a little too long. "No. Okay, maybe a little. You don't find it weird that we have essentially been playing house here tonight in Booth's home with Parker?"
"Yeah... I get your point, but no it doesn't worry me. It is kind of comforting to know that we can do this homey thing."
Lilly bit her nail.
"What's wrong? You don't like to play house with me?"
"No, I do! It's just... I love kids, I do, but having a child of myself scares me."
"What why? Just look how amazing you are with Parker."
"That's different. As a nanny, you just take care of someone else child within their guidelines. With your own kid, you have to decide how to raise them. It is your responsibility to not screw up this cute little creature totally dependent on you."
"Is definitely is a responsibility, but I am sure you and I can manage that. I think you might think too hard about this. My sister in law is pregnant and she's making my brother read all these parenting books. So he was complaining to our mom that he no longer knew what a great parental style was and my mother just told him that those books are a waste of money. She said he would know and learn along the way if he just follows his instincts. I think my mom is right. Evolution made it possible for human species to survive. If everyone's parenting style failed there would be so many screwed up kids that we would go extinct right?"
Lilly nodded. "I guess you're right. And I would like to have children someday. Kids are so cute, they see the world differently."
"Someday?" Wendell asked.
"Yes, sometime in the future but not in 9 months from now. Are you in a rush to start a family?"
"Not in rush, no, but I wouldn't want to wait until I am forthy or something."
"I agree. Ideally, I think I would like to be a mom before thirty."
"So within the next five years but not before the next summer." Wendell surmised.
"Yes."
Wendell smiled. "That sounds perfect to me."
"So how many babies would you like to have?"
"Well I won't have to bear them, but I think two or three little ones would be fun."
Lilly grinned. "So you don't want a family as big as your own?"
"No, my parents always had worries about money and while they did really love us unconditionally I think their lives would have been easier with a smaller family."
Lilly nodded. "I guess that makes sense."
"So what about you? What is your ideal number?"
"One is quite lonely", Lilly said. "So I'd say we'll try for at least two and see where we end up. Angela told me she doesn't want another child for a really long time because she hated being pregnant and worrying about that genetic eye disease. So if I could just manage to have two children at the very least I'd be happy."
Wendell nodded. "Some pregnancies and deliveries are really easy. My mom said it wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be. But for some women, it is really a traumatic experience."
Yes, I guess the mileage just varies. I don't think any pregnancy is really easy. I mean, there is a new human trying to grow inside a stomach, that has to cause some difficulties. And that is without considering the delivery."
"Probably", Wendell agreed. "I thought you were exaggerating when you said you were limber but you really are the twister master."
Lilly chuckled. "Thanks. I would have figured that you already knew, since you know that I practice yoga."
"Yes, but I thought you did the meditation thing. I've never seen you do yoga. After what I've seen tonight I think it would be really hot to see."
Lilly grinned. "Yeah, there were a few times where the view was exquisite."
"Oh, your view as well?" Wendell asked faking his questioning attitude.
"Definitely. I am not sure if I ever told you but you have a great ass."
Wendell smiled. "Are you sure you don't mean that I am a great ass?"
Lilly threw her head in her neck laughing. "Sometimes maybe."
A/N: I felt that Genny deserved a love interest. I really liked her character on the show but sadly we never got to learn a lot about her. So part of this chapter is a tribute to her. So what did you think about this chapter? I'd love to hear :). See you next time!
