Chapter 1

I think it's strange you never knew

(Elizabeth anxiously looked around the bridal suite– this was it. The earlier glance inside the chapel showed that it was barren except for a couple of flower pieces scattered throughout. It had been twelve weeks since Jake proposed and she'd accepted; twenty-six weeks since they got together. The engagement would have been longer, but they decided not to wait – they'd done enough of that while dancing around one another)

"Elizabeth, I was able to get a hold of Maxie after all." Felix said after knocking and waiting for the go ahead to come in.

(Maxie was surprisingly the go-to girl for Elizabeth these days. At least in the wedding dress sense. Unfortunately, she was out of town visiting Spinelli with Georgie. The second dress was in Maxie's apartment for safe keeping. He'd been able to retrieve it – after her permission and some help. Her first wedding dress ended up destroyed, the flowers in the chapel weren't the original ones and the priest died the previous night)

"Felix, you can come in." Laura softly said as she watched an anxious Elizabeth.

(She'd spent the better half of last night and this morning convincing her not to call off the wedding. It seemed like coincidences, but Elizabeth saw them as signs not to go through with it. Felix knocked once more before entering and sighed as he saw the distressed bride-to-be. He closed the door and swiftly walked to the mirror to hang the dress up. It was beautiful and would fit her to a T. It was a white tulle ball gown with crystal beading and a halter neckline. The first dress was a lace halter mermaid dress with beading that was equally beautiful)

"I suggest we get ready." Laura hinted as Felix began to unzip the clear plastic bag. It was only two hours till the big event and there was still so much to do – her hair was a process in itself.

"I concur with Mrs. Spencer." Felix said as he turned around and wished he brought his phone with him. Elizabeth looked between them before walking towards the gown and running her hand upon it. After wanting to be with Jake for so long, she could do this.

"We need to get Sabrina in here and Epiphany for the boys." Elizabeth said as she unraveled the gown from its plastic prison. Sabrina was going to do her makeup while Laura did her hair – it would save time and money. The boys were running amuck in the smaller room next to the bridal suite. She could practically hear them fighting in the past ten minutes alone.

"I'll get the boys in shape don't worry about that." Epiphany spoke up from behind them. She always managed to make her presence known at just the right time.

"Sabrina should be in soon as well. I saw her and Mr. Quartermaine exit their car." she mentioned as she made her way over to the smaller room. Elizabeth had been surprised that Michael stuck to the AJ is my father thing after Sonny's presumed death, again.

(Jake hit the decline button once more and thought about throwing the damn thing over the iron railing. Carly had been calling him nonstop since she revealed his supposed identity to him. He picked up once and it was Jason, Jason, Jason. He wasn't doing that again. His memories were slowly, but surely returning to him. Now he had a choice to make about the wedding. He felt a strong connection to Elizabeth the moment he awoke and saw her. He eventually remembered her face and their son's name. Their son, alive and not dead like he was. He also had Sam to think about. He felt something for the brunette and even remembered those trinkets and them making love, but she was happy with Patrick, Emma, and Danny. Jason Morgan was pronounced dead three years ago, yet here he was. All the stories he heard about Jake couldn't reconcile with who he was today. Jason Morgan was "helpful" and "loyal", but he killed people. Jake didn't understand how people justified what he did, but somehow Carly and Sonny did)

(He gathered himself and looked through his contacts until he found the person he wanted. He debated between texting and calling but Jason Morgan never texted; so he chose to call. He hit the green button before he could stop himself and was relieved she picked up after the third ring.

"Jake? We aren't supposed to talk to one another and yes I know…" she softly spoke and trailed off as someone was heard in the background – Sabrina?

"I just wanted to say that maybe we shouldn't get married?" Jake said slowly as he figured out what he had to do. It was silent on the other end before she finally spoke up. "You're having doubts too? I thought I was the only one. I'm so relieved…" She didn't get to finish as the dial tone was heard. He took a breather as the conversation finished and the time they spoke flashed – three minutes. He clicked his next contact and had a feeling this conversation wasn't going to be three minutes.

"Hello, Jake. I know we're running a little late because of someone." The person on the other end teased. He smiled and thought of what a good person Patrick was. "It's fine. I actually wanted to speak to Sam." Some hushed tones were heard before Sam's voice came through, "Hey, Jake. Is everything okay?"

Elizabeth stared at Felix as he took her phone. "I was talking to someone Felix Alexander DuBois!" He winced at his middle name being used – he should have never gotten drunk with her – before looking to see Jake's contact flash before him.

"Someone, as in your fiancé, that you aren't supposed to have contact with." Felix replied as he endured Elizabeth's disapproving glare. Sabrina and Laura were chatting amongst themselves while Epiphany had taken the boys for ice cream.

"I know, but it was important. Can I please just text what I was going to say?" Elizabeth pleaded at Felix. He debated before returning her phone and giving her five minutes. After that, she needed to get ready.

"Thank you!" Elizabeth said as she got up to hug her friend and to retrieve her phone before making a beeline to the bridal washroom. She walked past Laura and Sabrina with a small smile as she felt her phone vibrate.

"I'm running a little late, but rest assure I'll be there." Elizabeth smiled at Nikolas's text and replied. "It doesn't start until later, but there may be a change in plans?" He didn't text back, but that didn't bother Elizabeth. She made it to the washroom and was about to text Jake when her phone rang, it was Carly.

"Hello, Carly." Elizabeth answered it and wanting to move this along. She only had three minutes left.

"Elizabeth, I've been trying to reach Ja- Jake for ten minutes. Is he there with you?" Carly tried to carefully pick out her words. She didn't know what Muffin knew.

"No, he isn't, but we were talking –." The sound of light knocking made Elizabeth sigh knowing it was Felix. Her five minutes were up.

"Listen, Carly, I need to go. Bye." Elizabeth ended the call without the blonde getting another word in and quickly sent a text to Jake.

I didn't mean to freak you out. It's just that I want everything to be perfect and last night it hadn't been. If you don't want to go through with it, I'll understand. I'm going to turn my phone off, so text Laura." She pressed send just as her phone vibrated.

I think it's strange you never knew

(Elizabeth's confused expression showed as she re-read the unknown person's text again. She tried to think of what that meant when she heard the knocking again. Sighing, she turned off the phone and opened the door to find a waiting Laura with the dress)

"The twit supposedly had this connection with him. Yet, she had no idea who Jake Doe truly was." Helena spoke and grimaced at the simple wedding invitation. Nikolas ignored her as he processed what his grandmother just revealed to him about Jake Doe. He was Jason Morgan.

"I mean I should be thankful he wasn't with Alexis's bastard again. I suppose," Helena said as she got up and moved around. She didn't care for either woman personally, but she'd choose the twit over the bastard any day.

"You sent Elizabeth a text message? Are you insane?" Nikolas questioned as he finally regained his senses. He had to do damage control and fast.

"Really, Nikolas, relax. Besides, it wasn't from your phone." Helena commented as she stopped to look at her deceased daughter's portrait. She was supposed to be like her, but instead she betrayed her.

"Did it matter? Elizabeth is supposed to marry him!" Nikolas shouted as he went to make himself a drink.

"Who says she can't? He and Samantha were separated before his 'death' and no one needs to know until the time is right." Helena replied as she glanced at her pitiful grandson. He always did like the twit and no matter what she did, he always would defend her.

"You forget one person, grandmother. Carly." Nikolas commented as he threw back another strong drink. It was already likely that she'd already told her precious mob best friend about his identity. Helena didn't say anything about that comment. Instead thought she still had time.
