"Well, I feel like I now know both more and less about Undyne." Peter noted as he entered the elevator. He had returned to Hotland via the riverboat, wanting to make sure his quest continued.
"Honestly, I kinda like her." Chara replied. "She's got no shortage of determination."
"No kidding." Peter noted as he walked out. He passed another spider bake sale, and took a moment to look at the goods.
"Welcome to our parlor, dearie~" Stated a monster that looked like some spider-human hybrid. "Interested in some spider pastries? All proceeds go to real spiders~"
"Eh, I give spiders enough publicity." Peter replied with a wink. "I am Spider-man after all."
The spider-monster giggled. "Oh, but I'm sure a donation would be much appreciated. How does 9999G sound?"
Peter looked a Chara, who shrugged.
"Sorry. We don't have nearly that much." She stated.
Peter shook his head in apology, and walked onward.
In the next room, Alphys called.
"This room is like the room we saw before." She said. "There are two puzzles to the north and south... You'll have to solve both of them to proceed! Also... Didja have fun hanging with Undyne? Isn't she cool?"
Peter and Chara exchanged looks. "That's... one way to describe her."
"Hey, here's an idea: If you need help, become friends with me on Undernet! Then you can just ping me... Oh wait. I signed you up. Ohhhhhh you saw all the posts. Oh dear. Heh, um..." She hung up.
"Awkward." Chara stated.
"You're telling me." Peter noted, progressing to the sides to solve the puzzles.
Alphys called again. "H-hey, this doesn't have anything to do with guiding you, but... uhh, hey, would you want to watch a human TV show together? Sometime?"
"I'm open to it." Peter replied. "What show?"
"M... Mew Mew Kissy Cutie..."
Peter blinked.
"Honestly, I saw some episodes playing on her computer." Chara replied. "It's... something else."
"I think I'll pass." Peter replied. "I've actually got a lot of shows to catch up on. But, maybe sometime!"
"Um! Well! That's okay! Just thought I'd! Ask! I think you'd really like it!"
Alphys hung up.
"Ned and I have watched some anime." Peter told Chara. "Jurie's out on if I like it or not."
The two puzzles weren't difficult to solve, and Peter easily progressed to the next room. A few monster encounters left him low on health, so when they passed a box, Chara suggested they grab the Spider Donut he had left there earlier. Peter declined to take the Butterscotch-Cinnamon pie. He wanted to save that.
"The smell of cobwebs fills the air, and that fills you with determination." Chara intoned.
Peter shrugged. "I hear the call of my people." He chuckled, though an ominous feeling held around the room.
As he walked onwards, a small pounding began at the back of his head. Small chuckled began to filter through the air.
"Did you hear what they just said?" A voice whispered. Peter's headache continued to pound. "They said a human in a goofy getup will come through."
"My suit isn't goofy!" Peter yelled. "It's quite stylish!" Only chuckles answered.
"I heard that they hate spiders..." The voices hissed.
"Untrue!" Peter yelled. "That's kinda my whole brand!"
"I heard that they love to stomp on them... to tear their legs off... i heard..."
The spider monster from earlier blinked and emerged from the shadows, and Peter realized that it wasn't a headache pounding at his brain, but his spider-sense, warning of danger all around.
"This human is awfully stingy with their money." She hissed, giggling. "Think your taste is too refined for our pastries, deary?"
"Incorrect, I actually-" Peter fell through cobwebs on the floor, finding himself stuck, his mouth covered.
"PETER!" Chara yelled.
"I disagree with that notion." The monster grinned. "I think your taste... Is exactly what this batch needs!"
Peter broke free as his SOUL flew from his body. "Char, what's happening here!?"
"This is Muffet." Chara replied, wringing her hands. "If she invites you to her parlor... I'd excuse yourself!"
"Don't look so blue, my deary~" Muffet giggled, a strange beat filling the room as she poured purple liquid from her teacups. Peter couldn't dodge it, and he found his SOUL a shade more violet than it had been, and attached to strings to boot. "... I think purple is a better look on you!"
"Ack!" Peter exclaimed. "Lady, here I thought I took the spider aesthetic too far! C'mon now!"
"No use struggling, these are too tight." Chara noted.
The spiders were dancing to the beat as the flew along the webs towards Peter.
"It's kinda rude to steal someone's brand!" Peter exclaimed, jumping between them with some difficulty. "Spider-stuff is kinda my thing."
"You don't look like a spider~" Muffet giggled. "You look like a SNACK!"
"Great." Peter replied.
Muffet laughed and danced with the other spiders, and it occurred to Peter that the spiders were coming at him alongside the beat. Naturally, he danced along.
"Welcome to my spider dance, human!" Clapped Muffet. "Thanks for joining us for a bite! In fact..." She threw several donut shaped bullets at him. Peter jumped up and down, swaying side to side. On the last one, he spun a web and caught it ("Thank you new webs!") and threw it back to her.
"Oh my, you surely do have webs." Muffet clapped. "But I'm afraid my pet can be rather... cannibalistic at best! And it is breakfast time..."
Peter's spider-sense went off, and he spotted, beyond the spiders, a giant beast.
"Better get climbing~" Muffet giggled.
"Better!" Peter grinned.
Shooting two webs at the cavern ceiling, he used the web he was on to make a super-powered slingshot. Flying to the top, he dodged the giant "pet" and stuck the landing near Muffet.
"How's that for spider dancing?" He asked.
"Interesting... But too tasteful to resist!" Muffet giggled, launching spiders and donuts at him. "Besides, with your SOUL... I can finally reunite the spider tribes!"
"The... spider tribes?" Peter asked.
"Oh yes." Muffet replied, throwing some croissants into the mix. "But it's lunchtime, isn't it? Oh, I don't like to leave my pet hungry~"
"That ship has sailed!" Peter replied. "Or should I say... thwipped!"
Making the action, he dodged the monster and hung upside down next to Muffet.
"So, Spider-clans?"
"Oh yes~" Muffet looked surprised. "There's a group in the ruins, and we must be reunited with them! They've been there for generations!"
"Really?" Peter had an idea. "They wouldn't have happened to make... THIS!?"
He held up the spider-donut he had, and gave it a great big bite.
"Huh? Where did you get that...?" Muffet exclaimed. The music cut out. "Did you steal it? Oh, my pet~ it's time to show them what we do with thieves~"
A small spider came to her with a piece of paper.
"Huh? A telegram from the spiders in the Ruins?" She took it and read it thoroughly. "What? They're saying that they saw you, and... you helped donate to their cause! They say, in fact, that you're a spider fanatic! You've based your whole heroic persona around us!"
Peter showed her the giant spider on his chest. "C'mon, Muffet ol pal, I feel like that was obvious."
"Oh my," Muffet apologized, "This has all been a big misunderstanding~ Sorry for all the trouble~ In fact, due to your unique circumstances, and to make it up to you, I hereby name you an honorary member of the spider-clans!"
"Does this mean you guys will leave when I ask if I find you in my house?" Peter quipped.
"Don't push it~" Muffet giggled. The FIGHT ended. "See you again, dearie!"
With a final giggle, she retreated back into the shadows.
"That was kinda fun." Peter replied.
Chara tapped him on the shoulder. "What's that poster over there for?"
Peter looked. "A stage performance by Mettaton. It appears to be the plot of Romeo and Juliet. It's starting soon."
"Cool!" Chara said as they walked on. "Maybe we can actually watch his show instead of being in it!"
Peter looked about. The background of this room looked an awful lot like... a play set? "I'm not sure, Char... I think we just entered stage right!"
They both whipped around, but a familiar voice put Peter on his toes.
"OH? THAT HUMAN..." Above on a false balcony, Mettaton poked his head, such as it was, around a beam. "COULD IT BE...?" He emerged. He was wearing a guady dress that looked ridiculous on his... square. Frame.
"...MY ONE TRUE LOVE?" He exclaimed dramatically.
He rolled down the stairs, sounding like a desk chair coming down a mountain. A single spotlight emerged, Mettaton cleared his throat, and a music cue started.
"At least I'm good in musicals!" Peter exclaimed.
