Better Days
Chapter 306
Author's Note: So, this was supposed to be all about the supply run, but Summer had other ideas. She simply demanded to be put in this chapter. I swear she's becoming more of a pain in the but then Merle was! Please review.
Supply Group:
Quinn sighed as she leaned against the back of the truck. "He used to do this as a kid on a road trip, you know? Make mix tapes, have mom and dad put it on when it was his turn. I got well acquainted with my walkman," she told them as she rolled her eyes.
"Helps draw them away," Glenn said as he shook his head.
"From what they're doing and right toward us," Quinn answered as she rolled her eyes.
"You didn't have to come with us, you know?" Glenn told her. "You have your daughters' to think about," he reminded her.
"I had to come, for me. I know deep down that him and Nicholas are reckless, but there's a difference in knowing it and proving it. I couldn't let anyone else come out here and hope that they come back alive. When I saw Summer come back bleeding, I knew I had to stop talking about how the fact he shouldn't be in charge, but I had to see it for myself. You all know how to survive out there, you made it this far. I trust you all, but them, I don't. I grew up with Aiden, I know he's reckless, careless and put him with Nicholas, they don't have a half a brain between them. I need to be part of this one and this is one is for all of us. I personally am addicted to hot showers, I know a luxury, but if there's a way to get me my hot shower, I'm doing it," Quinn teased.
Noah shook his head. "You're a lot like your dad," he told her.
Quinn smiles. "I'm a mix. You talked with dad today right? This morning?"
"Yeah, I want to help, do whatever I can," Noah told her.
"That's why Aaron, Eric and Phoebe brought you in. They saw how you all would benefit the community. I know there's been some bumps in the roads, but there always is when there's different personalities involved," Quinn assured them.
"Do you really think that we're all going to be able to get along?" Tara questioned.
Quinn shrugged. "There's always people who lives in towns that don't get along, that don't agree with each other, that's just how society has always been. Not everyone is going to see eye to eye on every issue, but the only way we can survive is if we have people who know how to make it. I mean I doubt Mrs. Neudermeyer can bore a threat with the talk of a pasta maker, though I wouldn't put it past her to try," Quinn explained. "People are scared because you remind them of what life is like out there," she told them.
"Great that makes me feel welcomed," Noah said.
"It should, they needed to be reminded. You forget sometimes, what it's really like. What the people can do, what it's like wondering if you'll stay alive day after day. I only had a few months out there, but you guys? Well, trust me when I say, I'd follow Rick, follow you all to the depths of hell and back," Quinn answered. "And I'm not the only one who feels that way," she informed them.
"We're slowing down," Glenn told them.
Quinn got up as Nicholas opened the door. "I'm driving on the way home, Aiden, you hit every damn pothole in the ground. Sorry Eugene, you get to sit in the back," she told them.
"This it there?" Tara asked as they started putting on there weapons.
"That's the warehouse. Looks like that door is our fastest way in and out," Aiden told them.
"We should know all the exits first, so there's a plan if things go south," Glenn informed them.
"Already have one, it's called going out the front," Nicholas told them.
"And, just like that you prove my point of why you shouldn't be out here, why you shouldn't be leading anything, Nicholas. What if the front is blocked?" Quinn asked as she got a rifle out of the van.
Nicholas turned and looked at her. "You know you want me Quinn, all this sexual tension between us is what's making you angry," he told her.
"Dude, she's going to hit you," Tara told him.
"I'd rather let a biter get me then let you touch me. Plus, I got some, twice, before we left this morning. Didn't your hand get any?" Quinn asked as she walked away.
Tara and Noah burst out laughing as they saw Nicholas' face after she walked away.
"Are you sure you weren't born in Georgia? Separated at birth with Jewel?" Glenn asked.
"Noah heads up," Tara said as she nodded to the walker.
"Got it," Noah said as he aimed and took the perfect shot.
"Look at you with the aim," Aiden told him as he handed him a rifle then went back to the van. "Glenn's right, we should do a perimeter check, know our exits just in case."
Quinn gave Aiden a small nod as she smirked at Nicholas. "Well it looks like I'm the odd person out, I'll just stay here," she told them.
"Come with Noah and me," Glenn told her.
"You sure?" Quinn asked.
"Wouldn't have asked if I wasn't sure," Glenn told her.
Quinn nodded as she joined them.
"That was good aim back there," Glenn told Noah.
"Good stance too," Quinn added.
"Target practice helps," Noah said. "Actually last week," he stopped himself when he remembered Quinn was there.
"Let me guess, you wanted to use Aiden as target practice?" Quinn questioned.
"Yeah," Noah admitted.
"Don't you think that thought crossed my mind more then a few times? I mean I grew up with him, and you've only known him for a week," Quinn informed them.
"If we're being honest, then I wanted to use Aiden as target practice," Glenn answered.
"Jewel wanted to kill him, I wouldn't have blamed her," Quinn answered. She looked at the two men as they heard walkers' moans and went to the front gate.
Glenn looked at the walkers' and sighed. "We're not getting out the front."
"Glenn, um, thank you for being here," Quinn told him. "Seriously," she said as she put her hand on the other mans' shoulder before starting to walk back.
Summer's POV:
Summer looked at Sam as he ate a cookie. "You know, I had another uncle, besides Uncle Daryl. His name was Merle."
Sam laughed. "You guys have weird names."
"I mean we're from back woods Georgia, what do you expect?" Summer teased back. "I don't think Summer is too bad."
Sam shook his head. "It reminds me of sunshine. What happened to your other Uncle? Did he get bit by the monsters?"
"No, he died saving mom. That's what big siblings do, they protect you from bad things. Does Ron do that for you? Protect you?" Summer questioned softly.
"He tries," Sam answered softly.
"What does he protect you from?" Summer asked gently.
"I can't tell you, you can't help," Sam responded.
"Hey my dad and friend Michonne are basically cops, they handle the bad guys. You asked for a gun, that's not something that Carol and I can overlook," Summer reminded him.
"Carol doesn't care, she threatened to tie me to a tree," Sam responded.
"I care, Sam. You know what my job was while we were out there?" Summer asked him.
"No," he responded as he took another cookie.
"I watched out for the younger kids. Carl, Lexi and me, we tried. Sometimes we couldn't save them, but we did our best. I want to help you, let you know that you aren't alone, far from it. But I can't do it if you don't tell me. I have my suspicions, but that's all they are," Summer pleaded with him. "I need to know why you get angry, why you feel like you need a gun, then I can help you. But it's alright if you don't feel like you can tell me, but I am serious about teaching you and the other kids how to make cookies. I'll get the stuff today at the pantry today," Summer said with a reassuring smile.
"Dad…." Sam said as he looked out the street.
Summer turned and saw Pete approaching. "It's alright Sam, you weren't doing anything wrong."
"Sam what are you doing here?" Pete asked as he stepped on the first stair.
Summer stood up. "Mr. Anderson right? I'm Summer Dixon, and I was just talking with Sam here. He's a good kid," she responded.
"I was asking Sam," Pete told her as he took another step up. "You're Rick's daughter right? And Jewel's? But you use the name Dixon, why?" Pete questioned.
"I don't think that is any of your business," Summer told him.
"Sam go on home," Pete ordered.
Summer glanced at Sam. "Sam you can stay here, you were doing nothing wrong," she told him. "We were just hanging out."
Pete took the last step so he was on the porch and looked down at Summer. "Sam home now!"
Sam looked at Summer giving her an apologetic look before he ran down the stairs.
Summer took a breath wishing she had a knife on her. She tried not to be afraid of the man in front of her but she knew she was outmatched if something happened. "Mr. Anderson, your son is going home, just like you wanted, I suggest that you do the same."
"You don't tell me what to do," Pete told her. "Are you just like your mother? Got a big mouth on you? Think you're better then me?"
Summer looked at him. "If you'll excuse me, I need to go check on my sisters," she told him as she turned away.
Pete grabbed her and turned her around. "I wasn't done talking to you," he said as he squeezed her arm.
Jewel and Joey's POV:
Joey laughed as he saw Jewel with out a baby attached to her. "I almost didn't recognize you with out a baby. You alright?"
"Yeah, are you?" Jewel asked. "I know Summer is going through something, and she's trying to handle it the way she thinks she should. She'll figure it out," she reassured him. "Just don't go to far away, you're part of this family now, I think even Rick has accepted you as someone whose good for his daughter."
Joey laughed. "Never thought he'd come around. I'm not going to push Summer into anything she doesn't want."
"I wouldn't expect anything different. Be her friend, be part of this family," Jewel told him.
"I'm not going anywhere, mom," Joey teased her.
"Don't make me regret what I said," Jewel warned him.
Joey stopped. "Who is that on the porch with Summer?" he asked.
Jewel froze then looked at Joey. "Go get Rick. If you can't find Rick, get Michonne. Now," she told him as she grabbed her knife. She got closer to the house seeing Pete's hand on her daughter. "Don't kill him," she told herself as she threw the knife landing in his arm as he released Summer quickly. "What the hell?" he asked as he pulled the knife out and turned to see Jewel approach him.
"Summer, inside," Jewel told her oldest as she stepped face to face with Pete. "Who the hell do you think you are? Putting your hands on my daughter?" she asked as she grabbed her knife and put it back in her sheath. She punched him knocking him off the porch and she followed him down. "It's not enough for you to beat your family? You have the audacity to put your hands on Summer? What the hell is going on in that little brain of yours? I want to put this knife square between your eyes, twist it and watch you die. But, I'm not going to do that, because I want to watch you fall," she said as she kicked him in his manhood. "You think you're a man because you can intimidate people? Well you just put your hands on the wrong person. You just fucked with the wrong momma bear," she told him.
"Mom stop it!" Summer yelled as she stood in the door with Carol.
Carol came outside and put her hands on Jewel's shoulder. "Summer needs you," she told the other woman.
Jewel watched Pete get up and walk away.
Author's Note: And Pete is STILL going to have the audacity to come over with beers for Rick. Why do I think that isn't going over well?
