Uraraka stumbled through the door of the nearly empty classroom with decidedly less bounce than usual. She felt clammy and distracted. When the dull pain in her abdomen slowly sharpened she stopped to put her hands on the nearest desk. She appreciated the cold desktop while she breathed through the pain until it dulled enough to let her walk again. Jiro stopped behind her and rubbed a circle on her back. "What are you even doing here today? You should be in bed!"
Uraraka waved her off. "Really, I'll be fine eventually." She absently followed Jiro to her desk as she continued. "I just took my pain meds a moment ago so it will be a little while before they really kick in. Once they do I'll be right as rain. I just really can't afford to miss class today."
Her head was in a fog. Uraraka felt physically weak and the cramps were making it hard to think in a straight line. She looked around and realized her desk was now all the way on the opposite corner of the room, so with a sigh she gathered her resolve to head to the back of the room.
Before she even made it a step Bakugo snapped twice in her face. "Round Face, you sick or something?"
She glanced over to find him sneering at her from his seat, and Deku frowning at her from behind him. Deku's eyes roamed her face as his frown deepened. "Yeah, you don't look well."
She forced a smile on her face for Deku's sake. "I'll be okay. I'm just waiting for the medicine to kick in. Sometimes it just takes longer than I'd prefer."
Deku's so nice. He'd totally help if he could. Could he? With his quirk he could probably apply a lot of pressure. Too much really, and pressure helps, but not that much. Dang it.
She folded her arms and faced the other boy. "Don't worry, Bakugo. It's not contagious or anything."
Bakugo. Bakugo of the handsplosions. Oh goodness!
Uraraka suddenly gasped and grabbed his forearm. "Hey Bakugo! Can you heat your hands without detonating?"
Without thinking Deku answered, "Yes." Bakugo turned to him with a scowl and Deku raised an eyebrow at his former bully. "Well, you can."
Bakugo shouted, "Of course I can! But I don't need you referencing your notes on me when someone asks me a damn question!"
While the boys had their spat Uraraka had another wave of intense pain burrow through her. It took all of her attention to the point that she wasn't really hearing them anymore while she took a moment to concentrate on breathing through it.
When it passed she found that they had stopped talking and were both staring at her. She realized she was squeezing Bakugo's forearm and quickly let go. "Ah! Sorry." She stared down at his desk and tucked her hair behind her ear. "So I was wondering, if um. If you wouldn't mind," she cleared her throat, "maybe heating up your hand and letting me lean against it?" She glanced up at him and he looked completely puzzled, but she pushed through, "Like maybe with all my weight?" She felt a blush creep up her neck. "Okay, now that I've said that out loud I realize that the blood loss and cramps have me feeling loopier than I thought, but honestly it sounds amazing." Suddenly it occurred to her that he would probably say no. In fact, it would be a little crazy if he said yes. She swallowed and tried not to sound desperate when she added, "I would really owe you one."
Bakugo's confused expression dropped to something more blank as the pieces clicked into place. "You're on your damn period."
Uraraka nodded and looked at the floor as she accepted defeat. The pain meds would kick in. Soonish. She could make it until then. "Yeah, never mind. Sorry." She turned toward her desk, then was surprised when he grabbed her shoulder and turned her back to face him.
He growled at her, "You think I'm squeamish or something? Tch. Here." He put his leg out into the middle of the aisle and propped his elbow on his knee, then extended his hand out for her.
She slumped in relief, then felt her face flush as she approached his hand and hesitated. Bakugo huffed impatiently. "What, are you getting squeamish after all that? Just do it."
She looked at him, set her jaw and said, "Right. Thank you." She glared at his hand, then carefully set her abdomen just under her belly button against it and leaned in. This was the best idea. The warmth from his hand radiated into her and began to push away some of the overwhelming pain. She groaned appreciatively then asked, "Can you go hotter?" The heat increased instantly. Her shoulders slumped as she relaxed further against his hand. It was hot enough that it was beginning to get a little uncomfortable on her skin, but she closed her eyes and breathed deeply while it further smoothed out the ache.
He huffed irritably and asked "Did you even eat breakfast? If you're this light headed, it obviously wasn't enough."
She grunted, "Just the pain meds. Nothing stays down until they kick in. Hotter?"
"Much hotter and you'll get burned."
She nodded. "Just a little bit? It's like searing the cramps away."
"If you say so."
She inhaled sharply through her nose as the heat got more intense. After taking a moment to adjust she then grabbed his arm and knee to brace herself, leaned even further forward and picked her feet off the floor so all of her weight was being held by his scorching hand on her abdomen. His hand held steady as the pressure of her weight combined with the mildly burning heat was making serious progress against the cramping. She closed her eyes tightly and was breathing hard again in short focused breaths. Through gritted teeth she whispered, "Just a little longer." They stayed that way to a slow count of twenty while most of the cramps were forcefully melted away.
Feeling more at ease than she had all morning she put her feet down and said, "Okay, that's good." She felt a little giddy while her breathing slowed. A smile bloomed on her face and she tried to stand up straighter. When she wobbled a bit, she reached out to grab Bakugo's shoulder in time to catch herself. "Thank you. That was perfect. It's still kinda there, but you definitely beat it into submission."
"Tch. You are out of your damn mind. Can you even walk to your desk?"
Uraraka looked over in the direction of her desk on the other side of the classroom. Then also at all the other students who had trickled in. Her cheeks flushed at the thought of an audience for the spectacle she must have put on. "Um, I don't really know."
Deku held his hand out to her. "Do you want me to walk you over there?"
Bakugo smacked his hand. "Keep your seat nerd, I got this."
Deku had to cough to suppress a laugh, "Okay Kacchan," and waggled his eyebrows at Uraraka when Bakugo wasn't looking.
He rolled his eyes at Deku's tone, and then started rummaging through his bag. He pulled out a bottle of water and then stood up. "To your desk, let's go." He let her use his arm for support as they made their way to her desk and when she was seated he opened the water bottle and put it in her hand. "Drink all of it. Find something to eat the moment we get out of this class. What kind of idiot goes to class actively losing enough blood to get light headed, on pain killers, with no breakfast? If you don't ace tomorrow's exam I'm gonna be really pissed that you didn't just stay in the damned bed."
When Mr. Aizawa came in to start the lesson, she could still feel the residual warmth and was just about done with the bottle of water. She still lacked energy but she could think clearly now that the cramping wasn't louder than her thoughts and it was such a good feeling. By the time the lesson was over her medicine had kicked in and the pain stayed muted and out of the way making the rest of the day much more manageable.
The next morning Uraraka blearily came to in a sleepy haze to the sound of her phone incessantly buzzing. It was too early to be her alarm. She looked at the phone and was surprised to see it was Bakugo's number. Her voice creaked as she answered, "Hello?"
Bakugo's sleep rough voice responded, "Take the pain meds now, so they start working soon enough for you to have breakfast before the exam. Can you get to them on your own?"
"Uh, yeah. I put them by my bed. Why didn't you just text?"
"Because if you had slept through a text then it would have been a waste of my time and you coming to class yesterday just to bomb the test today would have been completely pointless."
"Oh. Thanks."
"Tch. Whatever. Oh, and if you get stuck like that between doses again, don't think I'm gonna get squeamish, alright?"
"Alright Bakugo," she smiled, "I know better."
