Better Days
Chapter 310
Author's Note: I hate writing death scenes, but Noah has to go, it's the way it must be. I also have a small list of people who won't make it in season six. Most OC's and one that I saved (not Beth) who isn't talking to me at all. So let's get to this shall we?
Supply Run Team:
Quinn took a breath as she glanced around. "Nicholas stop pushing, it's only making things worse," she ordered as she turned her head to the sound of beeping.
Eugene drove the truck up as he beeped the horn. He beat his hand on the drivers side door. "Hey! Hey! Over here! Come on! Come on! Come get me!" he exclaimed.
"They're following him," Quinn said as she stated the obvious as she helped Glenn keep the door closed.
Glenn grinned. "Come on Eugene! Yeah!"
"One of the cowardly lions got some courage," Quinn said as she looked at Nicholas.
Glenn immediately went into leader mode. "Alright, hey, I need the three of you," he started to say as he pounded on the glass to get Nicholas's attention. "Hey! Nicholas!" he yelled as he got his attention. "Nicholas and Noah, I need both of you of you to hold the door steady alright? Quinn and I are going to break the glass. We get out, you push out. We get the rifle and we're good," he told them but mostly to Nicholas. "Alright? Alright?" he asked.
"Nicholas do you understand him! A nod of the head isn't going to do it!" Quinn told him.
"Yes," he answered nervously.
"Quinn, we work together, hitting at the same time. Alright?" Glenn questioned.
"Yes," Quinn answered.
"Noah, you good?" Glenn asked.
"I'm good," Noah responded.
"Alright, let's go," Glenn ordered as him and Quinn started hitting the glass with the rifles.
Nicholas saw walkers' trying to get in through the crack and panicked. "No! Stop! It's not safe!" he yelled.
Glenn looked at him. "This is the only way!" he yelled.
"No, it's not going to break!" Nicholas yelled back at him.
"Nicholas! Look at me!" Quinn yelled at him as she saw him nervously look at her. "If we don't do this Glenn's way, then we are going to die. I've got Gus, my parents, and Spencer to take care of the girls. But Mikey, he already lost his mother, and you are the only one he has. If you didn't have a son to get back to, then I really wouldn't care if you died, but you do, so I do care," she told him. "We can all get out of here alive, but you have to trust Glenn."
"It will break and we can hold it! We can," Noah told him. "But we need to work together."
Glenn nodded. "Trust me OK?" he questioned Nicholas. "Alright, on the count of three. Count of three. One, two," he started counting as him and Quinn both raised there weapons. Glenn noticed Nicholas trying to reach for the rifle. "Nicholas no!" Glenn yelled as Noah tried to hold the door.
"Stop! Nicholas!" Both Quinn and Noah yelled.
Glenn tried to pull Noah away from the grasp of walkers' as Quinn braced herself between the door and Glenn. "Nicholas! Don't! Don't do it!"
"Nicholas! STOP!" Quinn yelled.
"STOP!" Glenn yelled as Nicholas made it outside and walkers' grabbed Noah's leg.
Quinn tried to help Glenn keep a grip on Noah as the walkers' tried to pull him through.
Noah looked at Glenn. "Don't let go," he told him as the walkers' pulled him through the other glass door.
Glenn pounded on the window. "Noah! NO!"
Quinn screamed as she turned her back so she couldn't see what was happening, but she could still hear Noah's cries. She felt Glenn sink to the floor as he watched the death of a friend. She waited until Noah's cries subsided before she sank to the floor with Glenn. She let him take some deep breaths and waited to talk to him. She had tears in her eyes as she looked at him. "I don't have…I can't think of the right words to say. I'm sorry doesn't even…well it's not enough," she told him as she wiped her eyes. "I'm not brave, not for this, but I didn't run. We have to go, we have to get back to Alexandria and tell mom what happened. Nicholas is going to make this our fault, your fault. I don't want Aiden and Noah to have died without the truth coming out….and Tara may die," Quinn told him. "But I'm not the expert out here…you are," she told him.
Glenn looked at her and nodded. "We don't have bullets, we're going to have to fight without weapons if we encounter any. Do you have anything that can pierce the brain? If you don't , use the back of rifle."
Quinn nodded as she took out a long handled screwdriver. "Will this work?"
Glenn nodded. "Aim for the head, don't let them get to close. I need you to get back to Alexandria alive too," he told her. "On the count of three, alright?"
Quinn nodded as he started counting. She followed close to him and luckily the way had been clear of the dead. "He's trying to take the van!" she yelled to Glenn. She watched as Glenn ran faster and pulled Nicholas out of the van and started hitting him. She stopped beside Eugene as she watched Glenn stand up.
"Help me get him in the van," Glenn told Eugene.
"Where's Noah?" Eugene asked.
Both of them looked at Eugene without saying a word as Quinn opened the back of the van and climbed in. "Here," she said as Glenn and Eugene lifted Nicholas and put him in the van. She helped pull him in as she looked over at Tara.
"Eugene you drive, I'll sit in the back with Quinn and Tara," Glenn told him as he got in and closed the back of the van.
Glenn and Quinn's POV:
Quinn looked down at the blood on her hands and clothes and took a breath as she looked at Tara.
"You were wrong back there," Glenn told her as he broke the silence between them.
Quinn looked at him. "What do you mean?"
"You said you weren't brave, but you were. You didn't run, you didn't abandon us, you tried to help with Nicholas, to keep him calm. You were brave. We have a saying between when they become part of the family…when they show they still have something that keeps them human. You're one of us," Glenn told her. "Today, I saw that in you, you are one of us."
Quinn brushed the tears away. "It wasn't enough. Aiden and Noah's still dead, Tara got hurt. Aiden didn't listen to you when you told him to stop, I….couldn't make him. And this numbskull, I don't have words…" she told him. "I never saw….before today…someone die like that. Gus always took care of it…he made sure I kept Bri safe. I couldn't look at Noah being ate….that makes me a coward."
Glenn shook his head. "No, Quinn it doesn't. It wasn't the first time I've seen someone taken down like that, and it won't be the last and it doesn't get easier," he told her. "You could have broke down out there, you could have lost it, and I wouldn't have blamed you at all. But you didn't, you made sure that I knew we had to get back."
Quinn looked down at her brothers' blood on clothes. "I didn't want him to die….I know it seemed like I hated him…but I just wanted him to realize he wasn't ready for the responsibility of other people lives in his hands," she told him as she tried not to cry.
"Hey, hey, look at me," Glenn told her as Quinn looked at him. "Jewel and her oldest brother Merle, they hated each other. He shot at her. But when it came to letting him die for the rest of us, her and Daryl went to get him, they didn't hesitate. And when Merle died, he died protecting her. You might not of liked him, but at the end you were there for him and that's what really mattered."
Quinn nodded. "What are we going to do about him?" she asked as she nodded toward Nicholas.
"We're going to tell your mother the truth," Glenn responded.
"He's going to tell her something differently, just like him and Aiden did with the others. She didn't believe me then," Quinn responded.
"You didn't see it then. You didn't have your brothers' blood all over you. Your mother is a good woman, and she's trying to do right by everyone, listen to everyone, but sometimes the hardest decisions are the only way you survive. Why did you come out here with us?" Glenn asked her.
"I couldn't let another person get hurt, get killed without being there myself. I prayed to God I was wrong, but I wasn't," Quinn answered.
"That's what you tell Deanna," Glenn told her as she nodded at him.
