Better Days
Chapter 311
Authors Note: Things are about ready to start popping in Alexandria. Deanna's going to find that not all her people are for exiling Rick and family. I'm really dreading starting season 6. But all the remembering stuff (that was in black and white) will be a separate chapter (or five) then the action. Please review.
Michonne, Maggie and Summer's POV:
Summer and Michonne went up the stairs to talk to Deanna, as Maggie walked out the door. "I need to speak to Deanna," Summer told Maggie.
Maggie looked at the two of them. "Can it wait? Deanna just got done talking with Tobin, he resigned his position as head of the construction crew, told Deanna that Abraham was better suited for it. That him and David could teach them how to work as a team and not leave anyone behind."
"Did she think we're trying to take over?" Michonne questioned.
Maggie nodded. "I think it's better to wait before we bring anything else to her."
"This can't wait," Michonne answered. "Show her," she instructed Summer.
Summer rolled up her sleeve to show the hand print on her arm. "Pete," she answered the unanswered question. "Mom threw a knife at him, aimed for his hand not his head, thankfully. I wanted to tell Deanna before he comes over here. I want it to be put on tape."
Maggie nodded. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you anywhere else?"
Summer shook her head. "No," she answered.
Maggie nodded as she squeezed Summer's shoulder. She knocked and opened the door slightly. "I'm sorry to bother you again Deanna, but Summer needs to speak to you. It's important."
Deanna nodded. "Send her in," she answered as she got up to greet Summer. She was surprised when Michonne walked in right with her. "Maggie you didn't tell me Michonne was with her."
"I'm only here as a friend and as constable," Michonne told the leader. "We thought it was best for me to come instead of Rick."
Deanna looked at Summer with a bit of concern in her eyes. "Summer, did something happen? Did someone do something to you? Did someone in your group do this?"
Michonne looked at her. "No body in our group would even think about doing something like that."
Summer gave Deanna the Dixon glare. "Pete did this because I was talking with Sam on our porch. Sam left, I turned and Pete grabbed me. But the truth doesn't matter to you, does it? You bring us in here, telling us you need us, but when something happens, it has to be one of us. My mom threw a knife at Pete, at his hand. I wanted to tell you before he came in here and lied. You're lucky there isn't a dead body to bury. Mom deliberately missed his head, she won't the next time. This was a waist of time," she said as she turned to leave.
"Summer, come back and you tell me what happened," Deanna told her.
"This is the second time in a day you accused one of us of doing something, and not trusting our word. I'm sorry, but I don't believe you'll do what needs to be done. Pete is a danger to everyone in here, and yet you aren't going to do anything about it. You put Michonne and Dad in those monkey suits for nothing but show. I wanted, no I needed to believe we finally found a place, a place where everyone will be safe. But you're the one who isn't going making this place safe. You are going to bring this place down because you won't listen! Would you have blamed someone in my family if he had killed me? Forget it, this place is a joke, you're a joke," Summer hissed at her as she left slamming the door behind her.
"Deanna, I believe in this place, I do, but what you just said, blaming one of us for hurting Summer, that was wrong," Maggie told her.
"We'd die before we let something happen to her," Michonne stated.
Deanna sighed. "It's just that I know my people. I just can't believe that anyone of them would do something like that," she said as she sat down. "You have to admit that Summer does have a temper."
Maggie looked at her. "You're trying to blame Summer for this?"
"If you know you're people, then you know that Pete is abusing his family," Michonne told her. "And you just turn your back on that?"
"Pete was our only doctor, well real doctor. I need all of you here, you're assets," Deanna insisted.
"He isn't your only doctor now, is he?" Michonne answered. "Expect a visit from Rick and possibly Jewel," she warned as she walked out leaving Maggie alone with Deanna.
Summer and Joey's POV:
Summer barged out of Deanna's house and glared at Pete's house. She shook her head and started back to her house.
"Hey, Summer, hold up," Joey told her. "I heard what happened. Are you alright?"
Summer turned and looked at him. "I'm alright. Deanna isn't a good leader, not for how the world is now."
"What did she do now?" Joey asked.
"She asked me if one of us did this," Summer answered.
"She has met your folks right? Your uncle? Any of us?" Joey questioned. "Jes doesn't think that she's good as a leader either."
Summer nodded. "I'm sorry about last night…pushing you away," she told him.
Joey shook his head. "No, I shouldn't have pushed. Whatever happens, or doesn't happen, you will always be one of my best friends."
"Same here," Summer said with a smile.
"Jes thinks we may have to take this place," Joey said softly as they walked.
"What do you think?" Summer questioned, as she played dumb about the plan.
"I'd do anything to keep our group safe. Rick and Jewel knows how to run a group. We'd never have made it if it wasn't for them," Joey told her. "What about you?"
Summer sighed. "I never wanted us to be like the Governor."
"This isn't about getting what someone else has," Joey informed her. "It's about keeping us alive, and as many of them alive as we can. I'm not sure Deanna is capable of that. She's trying to be the person she was before, not willing to change in the least. She expects everyone to be the same, and they aren't. You know, I still feel like the Governor is around every corner, just waiting to destroy us."
"I seriously considered becoming a vegetarian after seeing poor Bob that way. But, we can't be choosey," Summer answered.
"I told Jes if it comes to that, I'll be on her side," Joey answered.
Summer nodded. "So am I, if it comes to that," she told him.
Jewel, Rick, Summer and Carol's POV:
Jewel came down holding Hope and went up to Rick and kissed his shoulder. "How do you think it went with Summer and Deanna?"
"Summer's talking with Joey now, out there, so I'm thinking Deanna didn't take her seriously," Rick answered as he kissed her and then kissed the top of Hope's head. "Carl took Judith out for a walk, Mika went with them."
Jewel nodded. "So if Deanna didn't listen to her, then what do we do?"
"I'll try to talk to her," Rick responded.
"Talking to her is like talking to a brick wall, Rick. She's got her mind set in one way, and she's not willing to bend. A man like Pete deserves to die, and Deanna doesn't have it in her to make that decision. He isn't going to stop, until Jessie or one of the boys are dead. It's a miracle and half that one of us didn't die at daddy's hand. Looking at Pete…drunk with a temper, that's just like how I remember daddy. There are no good memories, just bad ones, hurtful ones. Deanna isn't going to agree with what has to be done," Jewel answered.
"She's going to have to see that way it has to be. She can't let him live and expect something not to happen. He grabbed our daughter," Rick informed her.
Summer came inside the house. "She asked if one of us did it, grabbed me. I didn't even stay to put it on video. She knows, she knows what Pete is doing."
Jewel looked at Summer then at Rick. "Why would she put up with it?"
"I don't know, I didn't stick around for her answer. She wasn't going to say anything I liked," Summer responded. "I think she means well….but she isn't up to leading, not now."
Jewel started to say something as Carol walked in. "Aren't you supposed to be at book club with Mar?" she questioned.
"I went to see Pete," Carol answered.
"By yourself?" Summer questioned.
"No one should be alone with that man," Rick told her.
"So what happened?" Jewel questioned.
"He wouldn't let me in, he slammed the door in my face," Carol answered. "I know how this is going to go with Pete. There's only one way for it to go," she said as she looked at Rick. "You're going to have to kill him," she told Rick.
Gabriel's voice over:
"The day will come...when they'll put their own lives before yours and everyone else's and they will destroy everything you have here, everything you're working so hard to build. "Satan, he disguises himself as the angel of light. His servants are the false apostles of righteousness. They don't deserve this, they don't deserve paradise."
Author's Note: It's short but it was a perfect time to end it so all the excitement starts next chapter!
