Better Days
Chapter 316
Author's Note: Yep things are getting all good now. I personally am excited. I love all your ideas. Some I have already thought of, except Jewel being mayor. Yeah her response to that is I have enough children to watch over and I don't want anymore, especially ones who can't take care of themselves. And yes, go Jewel! Go go and go! Please review.
Quinn's POV:
Quinn put her hands on the edge of the kitchen sink and took a breath. "It's not real," she said out loud.
"Mom? Are you alright?" Bri questioned as she came to stand beside her.
Quinn kissed the top of her head. "Just thinking," she assured the teen.
"Is gramma going to make them leave?" Bri questioned her mother.
"Did she say something?" Quinn asked as she turned her body to look at her.
"No, but she's mad and grampa said she was regretting bringing them in. It's not there fault, is it?" Bri asked.
Quinn bent down so she was eye to eye with the teen. "Gramma is grieving right now, and that's clouding her judgment right now. And, not sweet pea, this isn't there fault, and I'm going to make sure gramma does the right thing."
"She's pretty stubborn," Bri answered.
"So am I. What have I told you about doing the right thing?" Quinn questioned her daughter.
"That sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing to do, especially when it means going up against a person you love. But you have to do what is right so you can live with yourself," Bri answered.
Quinn nodded. "And that's what I have to do with gramma. I have to stand up for what's right," she told her. Quinn looked up hearing footsteps. "Phoebe," she greeted.
"The door was open, I didn't mean to interrupt," Phoebe told her.
"It's alright," Quinn answered. "You and Chloe can stay home today from school," she told Bri.
"Can we go see Judith and little one?" Bri asked.
"Only if you aren't bothering anyone and Jewel is alright with it," Quinn said as she ran off. "What's up? Can I get you a cup of coffee?"
"No, I'm alright," Phoebe answered as she sat on the stool. "Are you?"
Quinn shook her head. "I really wish there was a right answer for that, you know? I didn't sleep at all last night and when I did close my eyes, all I could do was hear screams, mostly from Noah. He shouldn't have died out there. Aiden and Nicholas should have never been out there, they should have never been allowed out there after the first time."
Phoebe put her hand on the other woman's hand. "You can't blame yourself, you did what you could."
Quinn gave a tired laugh. "It wasn't good enough was it? People still died."
"I don't regret bringing in the group, neither does Eric. I won't say I'm sorry for it," Phoebe told her.
Quinn looked at her. "I'm not asking you too. If it hadn't been for Glenn, I would have died yesterday. Any word on Tara?"
"People are coming in and out of the infirmary, still keeping guard," Phoebe answered. "Is there anything I can do?"
"How did you get the screams out of your head?" Quinn asked quietly.
Phoebe sighed. "You won't want to hear this, but I'm not going to lie. They never really go away, you just learn to quiet them. But last night, I didn't sleep either, neither did Liam. I think something like this brings up memories for everyone that's been out there, really out there."
"You're right, that's not something I wanted to hear," Quinn responded.
"How's your mom taking it?" Phoebe questioned.
"Not well. She's looking for someone to blame, and right now that focus is on Rick and his group," Quinn answered. "But Rick and his group is exactly what we need, now more then ever," she said as Phoebe nodded.
Beth and Maggie's POV:
Beth sat on the couch drinking orange juice not hearing Maggie approach.
"You know daddy would fuss at you for bringing food and drink to the living room," Maggie said as she sat down.
Beth nodded. "I know, I was thinking the same thing. Any word on Tara?"
"No change," Maggie told her.
"How's Glenn?" Beth questioned.
"It doesn't get easier, you know? No matter how many times we have to say goodbye to someone, it just never gets easier. Glenn knows it's not his fault, but he blames himself," Maggie told her as she squeezed her hand.
"I thought it would stop, when we got here," Beth told her. "But we're never really safe, are we? We thought we were at the prison but we weren't. These people remind me of what I was like when Rick and everyone came onto the farm. Weak."
"We've all changed, they'll have to too," Maggie told her. "We have to stay," she added.
Beth looked at her. "Maggie? What is it?"
Maggie looked at her sister. "I'm pregnant Bethie," she told her sister.
Beth took a breath as she hugged her. "Does anyone else know? Did you know before we got here?"
"No one but Glenn knows. He said he thinks Jewel knows, which isn't surprising at all, I mean she is Jewel. I suspected at the prison," Maggie told her. "Don't tell anyone just yet, alright?"
"Daddy would be so happy right now, he'd be scared, but he'd say have faith. And he would love to spoil his first grandbaby. He loved taking care of Judith," Beth told her. "I'm just going to have faith, like daddy always said. You're going to be alright, Jewel was. You're also going to be glued to someone from the eighth month on, because this is one baby who is going to be delivered with his or her loved ones next to her."
Maggie laughed as she wiped her tears. "I think we have enough baby girls around, I'm hoping for a boy."
Beth smiled. "I just want a healthy baby, and healthy mom," she said as she hugged her. "It'll be alright," Beth told her.
Michonne, Rosita and Lexi's POV:
Michonne sat on her bed and rubbed her eyes as she heard a knock on the door. "Come in," she told the person.
Lexi and Rosita walked in. "Hey," Rosita greeted.
"How is she?" Michonne questioned. "And you better get over here and give me hugs before I start a pillow fight," she told Lexi.
Lexi shook her head before she went over and hugged her. "I thought you were the adult?" she asked.
Rosita gave a smile at the interaction. "Stable, hanging on. I'm gonna go back there later. I think Sasha might have spent the night in the tower."
"She never came home last night," Lexi told her.
"Is she still up there?" Michonne questioned.
"Abraham's on watch now but she hasn't been back, and no one's seen her," Rosita told her.
"I asked and no one let her back in last night. Jes said that she had told her she wouldn't spend the whole night out there, but she did," Lexi informed her.
Michonne stood up. "We'll go look for her, you stay here in case she comes back."
Lexi looked at her. "I told Rosita, I want to go, I need to be there. I mean if she…well if she got bit, I need to put her down. I don't want to feel like Sasha does if the worse happens. She wasn't there to put down Ty, and she ran away from doing it with Bob cause of her anger with the Termites. If…the worst happened, I have to be the one to do it."
Rosita and Michonne exchanged glances at each other. "Alright, but you stay by us. I have to go check out a gun, so you'll come with me," Michonne told her.
"I'm sure she's fine," Rosita told her.
"You don't know that," Lexi responded as they walked out. She stopped and signed them out and continued. "I'm not a kid, even Mitch and Mika knows the risks. Sasha is being reckless, and it's going to get her killed, or worse someone else killed. It might already have. She's not thinking correctly at all, she doesn't care how she's hurting me, and personally I'm done trying to get through to her. Her skull is to thick. I just want to make sure if she is bit, that I'm the one who puts her down. And if she isn't, I may just kill her my self," she said as she walked into the armory.
"Lexi, are you here to get some supplies?" Olivia greeted.
"I'm here to get my gun," Lexi told her as Michonne and Rosita walked in behind her.
"Lexi, you don't have to go out there anymore. You should stay inside where your safe. Being outside these walls isn't child play," Olivia told her.
Rosita grabbed Michonne's arm, and shaking her head. "Let her handle it," she mouthed.
Lexi blinked. "When have you been outside those gates Olivia? You can't even keep the guns clean, let alone fire one. Don't you dare tell me what I should or shouldn't be doing when I could kill ten walkers before you took out one. You aren't my friend, my sister, my aunt, or any part of my family, like these two are. They are alright with me going to find my sister, so I don't need or want your permission," she told her as she grabbed her gun and bullets. "When I get back I'll show you how to clean a weapon properly," she said as she walked off.
Michonne grabbed a couple pistols. "She's had a bad week," she simply said as she and Rosita turned to follow her. Michonne looked at Rosita. "I expect that from Carl, not her."
"She's frustrated, with Sasha, with everyone telling her it'll be alright. She's a hormonal teenager, it was bound to happen," Rosita told her.
Michonne nodded. "I don't have to like it," she told the other woman.
"No we don't, we just need to be there," Rosita agreed with the other woman.
