Better Days
Chapter 318
Author's Note: When Alexandria was introduced, all my brain kept saying was, where is the one person whose strong enough to disagree with Deanna? There has to be someone in that town that knows that they were to lucky. And wa la, Quinn was born. I mean have you ever been anywhere where 100% of the people agree about everything?
Lexi finally tells her sister off. I'm not sure Sasha wants to hear it, but she needs too. If so, please tell me because I want to come live there! Please review.
Rosita, Michonne and Lexi's POV:
Rosita walked with the two others. "It's up ahead," she told the other two.
"She told you about it?" Michonne questioned.
"I saw her going out one day with a rifle, I knew someone was already on the guard tower, I asked. She told me about where she comes when she comes out here," Rosita answered.
"At least you get the truth when she asks, I get the 'I don't need to know,' or 'I'm working things out,'" Lexi told them. She raised her gun as the other two did after hearing something.
"It's the first time I've been out since we've been here," Rosita told them.
"Me too," Michonne answered. "It already feels different."
Lexi looked at them. "We shouldn't let that happen. I've been out here, I followed Carl, who followed that girl Enid. Carl says he doesn't want us to become weak, and we are, by not coming out here, by forgetting who we are. Maybe Sasha has the right idea, just going about it the wrong way."
"Lex, we need to try to feel normal. I know that's why I don't come out here," Rosita told her. "So it's good that it feels different for Michonne."
"I don't know if it is or not," Michonne answered.
"After Eugene, after finding out he lied, I was screwed up because I lost something. You seem screwed up because we found something," Rosita told them.
Michonne stopped and turned to look at her. Lexi stopped to and looked at Michonne.
"Noah's dead," Michonne answered. "And…I think…I just feel like I was asleep in there," she answered truthfully as she continued to walk.
"You were trying to forget, so you could forget," Rosita told her.
"I don't want to forget," Michonne answered her.
"Me neither, we can't. It'll make us weak like those people in there…like Ty…and people who are weak, they don't make it. And I want to make it," Lexi informed them.
Rosita put her arm around the teen as they walked. "We all want to make it," Rosita answered her. "So don't forget, but that doesn't mean any of us can't try," she told them as she stopped. "Michonne you didn't bring your sword with you, and that's not nothing," she told her. "And you, you tried yesterday, we decorated your room. We had fun didn't we? We went treasure hunting, finding things, and we laughed. We even started to work on fixing up Judy, and eventually Hope's, nursery. We are trying, but that doesn't mean we forget," she told them as she walked.
Lexi stopped first as she saw the walker on the rock. "Sasha just left us a calling card," she told the two older women.
"Back of the head, she's hunting them," Michonne said as Rosita bent down to a broken frame with the eyes of a family poked out.
Lexi took a breath as she looked out. "We should continue," she said as she walked in front of them. They walked a bit before they heard a gun shot. They saw Sasha ahead of them.
"Sasha," Michonne called to her.
"Go back," Sasha told them as she started to walk away.
"We can't," Lexi answered.
"What are you doing?" Rosita asked.
"I'm tired of playing defense," Sasha told them not even acknowledging Lexi.
"So you're just going to take on all of them?" Michonne questioned.
"Yeah," Sasha answered, hostility in her voice.
Lexi rolled her eyes. "Yeah cause that's thinking straight, Sasha," she told her as Sasha glanced back at her. "Yep, I'm here, glad to see that you noticed that you still had a living sibling. Are you seriously out to get yourself killed?" she exclaimed.
"Go back," Sasha told her.
"Nope, you want to be stupid, reckless, and play at this like it's some video game, you don't get to do it yourself. You may not give a damn about yourself, but I care about you. So, Sash, I'm with you til the end of the line," she told her.
"You just quoted a Captain America comic, I'm so proud," Michonne said with a small grin.
Lexi turned as she heard the rustle of leaves and the familiar groans as she saw walkers' come toward them. She took a long breath as Sasha went off like Rambo. "Of course, why would I think that she gave a damn about me," she mumbled as Sasha shot walkers.
"We have to get out of here," Rosita told her.
"You do, I don't," Sasha told them.
Lexi looked at her. "Seriously, this is insane. You do realize that right?" she asked.
Sasha looked at Michonne who raised her gun. "I don't need your help," she told her.
"This isn't for you," Michonne answered as she opened fire. Rosita went ahead with her knife as Lexi joined Michonne in shooting walkers'.
Lexi noticed that Sasha's gun ran out of bullets as she continued to shoot walkers. She turned to help Sasha. "Sasha!" she yelled as a walker came toward her as she stumbled. Lexi went to fire at it, but Michonne was closer and took it.
Sasha looked up at Michonne as the other woman offered her hand. "I had it, I told you to go," she hissed as she slapped her hand away as she stood up. "I told you to go," she hissed at Michonne. Lexi and Rosita just joined Michonne in staring at the older Williams' sister. "You," Sasha said as she pointed her finger at Michonne, "you can't do anything, it worked out for you. Don't you see that? You can't help me…nobody…" she said with a mixture of anger and sadness in her voice.
"Sash…" Lexi started to say as she started to approach her.
"You don't need me Lexi, you have everyone to look out for you. I can't be responsible for you, I can't…" Sasha started to tell her. "Noah…I told him he would make it," she told them with sadness in her voice.
Lexi had tears in her eyes before she went over and pushed Sasha against a tree. "You can't be responsible for me? That's a laugh! Ty was always the one who kept us together, he was the one who reminded us what being siblings were. You…yeah…you were a good sister, you were always there for girl things and you protected me. But, Ty, he was the one I knew I always could go too. He was the one who would drop everything to help me. You, it was a give and take, depending on what you were doing. You can't be responsible for me? That's a damn laugh because ever since Bob and Ty have died, I've been the responsible one. Not signing the log? Not coming back when you heard about Noah? You didn't even stay at the party. Did you know Carl kissed me again? Do you even care? Now we find you out here playing the damn Queen of taking down walkers' like you want to die. And you have the audacity to take out your anger on Michonne because she is trying so we can all have a good life. So that Hope and Judith, Mitch and Mika, can be safe? So Carl and I can try to take the rest of our teenage years back?" she yelled at her sister. "You think you're the only one who lost something?" she questioned as she stepped back. "I wish it was you who died…I wish Ty was still here…I wish he could enjoy being here….and not you. You want to get yourself killed, go ahead….because if you can't be responsible for me…I can't be responsible for you," she told her as tears ran down her cheeks before she ran off.
"Lexi!" Rosita yelled after her before giving Sasha a disappointed look and went after her. "Lexi stop!" she said as she grabbed her arm.
"I just want to go back…I don't want to talk…..please don't make me Rosita," Lexi begged as she was in tears.
"Alright, let's go back," Rosita told her as she hugged her.
"Do you think I could take a turn on guard duty? Sasha isn't going to be doing it anytime soon and I did it back at the prison," Lexi told her.
Rosita took a breath as she looked at her. The teen needed something to keep her mind off what happened. "I'll tell you what, if one of our people are up there, yes, you can with them."
Lexi nodded as she walked away.
Lexi, Joey and Rosita's POV:
Lexi climbed up the guard tower and saw Joey. "Hey," she greeted.
"Hey," Joey greeted as Rosita climbed up. "I've only been up here a few minutes, what's going on?"
"Do you mind if Lexi kept you company for a couple hours?" Rosita questioned.
Joey looked at the teen then at Rosita. "Yeah no problem. Be like old times at the prison," he answered as he nodded at Rosita before she departed down again. Joey opened up his bag and held out pretzel gold fish. "I saw a stash in the pantry and I thought I know someone who told me that this was one thing that she really missed from the world before," he said as he held out the bag. "Delicious, yet stale, goodness."
Lexi gave a small smile before she took them. "You remember that?"
Joey nodded. "Yeah," he told her. "So why do you look like the end of the world just happened?"
Lexi stopped in the middle of opening the bag and raised an eyebrow. "It ended a long time ago."
"Exactly! See," Joey told her as he started laughing. "Yeah I didn't do that on purpose."
Lexi just shook her head as she ate a gold fish. "Stale," she told him.
"You want to give them back?" Joey questioned.
"No!" Lexi answered as she protected the bag.
"That's what I though!" Joey answered. "You know that I had a younger sister…she'd be about your age now. I'd like to think that you think of me as an older brother….I won't replace Ty or even Sasha in that older sibling role," he told her.
Lexi glared at him at the mention of Sasha and popped a goldfish in her mouth.
"So, it's Sasha. I know she never came back last night. Something happen?" Joey questioned.
"Oh, only that she's deliberately hunting walkers' and she said that she can't be responsible for me anymore, and I lost it and told her I wish she was dead instead of Ty," Lexi informed him.
Joey looked at her. "Hey she knew you didn't mean it," he told her.
"How do you know I didn't?" Lexi asked.
"Because you don't have it in you to mean that. People have always said things in anger that they don't mean, even before the world went to hell. You are one of the most loving people I know. You can still see the good in people, even if we can't. You can put a smile on almost anyone's face. And you care, you care like no one else. That's why you were out there, that's why you went looking for Sasha with Rosita and Michonne. What you said, was in retaliation to what she said to you. There's only so much anger a person can hold in until it explodes," Joey told her.
"What if she dies before I say I'm sorry? I don't know if I could live with that," Lexi told her.
Joey put his hand on her shoulder. "I'm going to remind you that it wasn't your fault. I'm sure that she's feeling the same guilt you are right now."
Lexi gave out a small laugh. "I seriously doubt that."
"Yeah she is. She's hurting, so she wants everyone else to feel her pain. If she can't make it better, she wants to bring everyone down with her. The one thing to remember, that I'm going to make you understand, is that you aren't alone. I'm not going to let you be like Sash, neither is Rosita, or Carl, or Summer or any of us. We're going to remind you who you are," Joey told her as he kissed the top of her head. "I already lost one little sister, I'm not losing another one."
