Chapter 4

"Aoko," Kaito started. "Where ya going?"

The girl in question stopped dead in her tracks and looked out her window. From the house across, Kaito could be seen leisurely leaning on his balcony.

Aoko had an umbrella in her hands, and she had an idea Kaito already knew where she was going. She gulped, then headed out to her balcony too. She should've closed the damn curtains.

"Kaito..." Aoko pleaded. KID had announced another heist a few days before, and she just couldn't stand there and watch.

"You promised."

Aoko took a deep breath. She stepped forward and aimed her umbrella at Kaito. "I'm sorry."

Kaito's eyes grew wide. Aoko shot tranquilizer darts at the boy but he managed to dodge them. Suddenly Kaito threw some pink smoke bombs on the floor, covering him. This did not deter Aoko. She kept shooting until she heard a thud. When the smoke cleared, Kaito was on the floor clearly asleep.

Aoko exhaled. I'm sorry Kaito.

As soon as he heard Aoko dash to the streets, Kaito lifted his head up. He only managed to dodge the sleeping needles and pretended to be knocked out. Aoko was going to the heist and there was no stopping her.

That girl is too reckless.

It was three hours before the heist and Kaito's nerves were getting to him.

Poker face. Remember your Poker face.

He put on a disguise before grabbing his equipment.

There was a good number of people at the targeted museum. KID supporters surrounded the entrance, and mingled in the crowd were Blue Shadow fans.

Kaito made his way into museum as a lady with brown hair and green eyes. "She" looked at several pieces of art before looking at the millennium diamond. While nearing the case, someone bumped into her.

"Ah! I'm sorry!" A girl said.

"It's alright," Kaito replied in his disguise. "Be careful next time."

Kaito watched the girl disappear before checking his watch again. 10 minutes, he grinned.

Aoko threaded throuh the crowd in the museum. She was doing it as stealthily as possible but still managed to knock over someone.

"Ah! I'm sorry!" Aoko said.

The lady she bumped into made no fuss about it. Thank goodness, Aoko thought. She was still scoping the room and she needed to get changed.

She snuck into an inconspicuous utility closet and prepared. The smoke bombs she scattered as pearls on the floor should activate soon.

Aoko arrived back at the exhibit still disguised as a civilian. That was when the room was filled with blue smoke and then she took off as Blue Shadow.

Sprinting to the case that held the diamond, Blue Shadow shot tranquilizer darts the guards still standing by it. Most of the task force and crowd had evacuated the room. When she got closer to the case, the jewel was gone, a note was left behind instead.

The millennium diamond is mine!

"Dammit," Blue Shadow cursed. She looked around as the smoke was starting to clear. "KID! Show yourself! Give back the diamond!"

There was a pause. "I'm sorry Blue Shadow. But this one I'll keep."

Blue Shadow saw something glisten near the window and as she was about to aim her sword at it, a gun was cocked to her temple.

"I beg to differ," a man in black said. "Give up Pandora, KID, or her brain will be blown to bits."

Blue Shadow stiffened. She hadn't sensed this guy come up behind her at all. She had been too focused on getting the jewel and KID. The man had her in a headlock.

Crap.

The smoke had finally cleared completely. KID had the diamond in his hand, up in the air as moonlight passed through it. It was glowing red.

"Give me Pandora," the man in black ordered. He pressed the gun hard to Blue Shadow's head.

KID was about to make a move but Blue Shadow interrupted him.

"Don't do it. Don't give him what he wants."

"I'm sorry, but that I cannot do. A jewel for a princess sounds like a good bargain," KID replied, Poker Face on.

He walked towards them and stopped a few feet away. "Snake, the girl?" He demanded as he presented the jewel.

"Put your card gun on the floor, then kick it to the side," Snake said.

Blue Shadow looked at KID, then looked down with her eyes then back at him again. Grab my sword grab my sword grab my sword, she prayed in her head. If he grabbed it he may be able to incapacitate the man called Snake.

KID kept a straight face as he lowered his card gun, his eyes never leaving Blue Shadow's.

Just then the museum rang of gun shots and foot steps. "Back up is here," Snake grinned. "Hand over the diamond!"

As KID got up from the floor, he winked at Blue Shadow and grabbed her sword. He used the end to jab at Snake several times before releasing a pink smoke bomb and a sleeping gas bomb. Snake fell to the floor and cursed.

Blue Shadow felt KID grab her hand and run away from the exhibit room. Just then, more voices filled the room and more shots were fired. KID expertly dodged the bullets as they ran but some had grazed Blue Shadow.

They ended up in a small dark office. KID closed the door before examining Blue Shadow. They had a heard start and that bought them some time.

"You're hurt," he said. There was bitterness in the statement.

"They're just scratches..." Blue Shadow reasoned. Her adrenaline was still keeping her from feeling much pain.

KID snorted at this as he bandaged her wounds. "You shouldn't have come."

"Who else would've stopped you?" She retorted.

"Dammit, Aoko! Didn't you just see firsthand who else could have stopped me?" KID said, furious.

Blue Shadow froze. "I—I'm not Aoko!" She protested.

"Aoko, please."

Then it clicked. Only one person knew that she was Blue Shadow...but that would mean...

"Kaito?"

"I told you I'd come for you," Kaito said with a sad smile.

"Kaito? You're...KID?" Aoko asked dumbfounded. "Are you KID or are you pretending to be KID?"

"Does it matter right now?" Kaito reasoned. "We need to get out of here." He finished tying the last of her wounds with magician scarves.

He was right. All Aoko could do was nod, still shocked at what was happening.

"But first..." Kaito took out a hammer from his suit. He placed the millennium diamond on the floor.

"Do you really think you can break a diamond with a hammer?" Aoko asked skeptically.

"One way to find out," Kaito replied before he hit the jewel as hard as he could.

To their surprise, it cracked.
